TDB Rewatch Episode 5x06 FicRec Movin’ Out
Getting Blaine ready for his audition: Safety by nightbirdrises (aka @princehummel) Summary: Kurt wonders if he’s done the right thing in encouraging NYADA and a future in performing for Blaine.
Blaine’s actual NYADA audition wasn’t part of the episode, so if you want to read how it went - here is Anywhere But Here by BabyBoomBoom0029 and Untitled 5x06 Reaction Fic by asuninside.
When I Wore a Younger Man’s Clothes by @hazelandglasz is very short but bittersweet. It’s the one I mentioned here. Summary: The scene at Spotlight and one particular old man gave me feels
Two personal favorites of mine are Hearth & Home by @wowbright Summary: A follow-up to Blaine’s conversation with Kurt about his fears over getting into NYADA.
and The Sounds of Home by @flamingmuse Summary: Blaine’s proud that he’s slowly getting used to the weird sounds of the city around them by his third night here. also translated into German on AO3 and Fanfiktion.de
Than there is Persistence of Memory by scalpelsandhappiness. It is from Rachel’s POV but very sweet and very un-Rachel-y in a good way with lots of thoughts concerning Finn and Klaine. Summary: Rachel used to appreciate the city lights that always tried to intrude through her curtains, imagining them as a faint, humming buzz that she could reach out and touch. These nights, though, they just remind her that the Big Apple never sleeps, and she’s not doing so well in that respect, either.
Do Not Disturb by gunpowdereyes Summary: Kurt will accept no reunion sex interruptions.
and last but not least Squeaky Bed Woes by @flickerthenflare which is basically what it says on the tin, lol. Summary: Blaine profoundly dislikes Kurt’s bed. (my favourite line is: Kurt’s concern about privacy is clearly inversely related to how horny he is.)
and as an exception, because I mentioned it in my meta post, I want to include Rainjoy’s AU fic Unscripted Verse that will convince you that Blaine was meant to be a doctor. also translated into German on AO3 and Fanfiktion.de.
adding belatedly because it*s brand-new The Highest Place on Every Fire Escape by InsightfulInsomniac (aka @zigxzag-klaine ) Summary: Kurt and Blaine have a limited amount of time together before Blaine and Sam have to go back to Lima after college visits and Blaine’s NYADA audition. But with a packed apartment, it proves to be nearly impossible for them to get any alone time together, and all the near-misses are getting to them in the most frustrating ways. Finally, Kurt snaps, and this is the story of how Blaine and Kurt end up getting it on out on the fire escape.
Enjoy <3

Kurt and Santana had great friendship moments during the NY-arc - I loved their dynamic - at least as long as it wasn’t tainted by all the unnecessary ‘Rachel’s-understudy-drama’.

Tdb rewatch: Movin’ Out
German title: Aufbruch, which means departure, though I think here it’s also meant as a feeling of being on the move, of new things to come.
I liked this better this time than I did when it first aired. I admit I was one of those who felt that this episode lacked in the Klaine; I didn’t necessarily want them to make out or plan their wedding or anything, but I felt their scene together in the loft was very awkward and it felt like Chris Colfer had checked out.
This time, I didn’t notice it all that much, mainly, I think, because of course I watched it in German and was distracted by how especially annoying Kurt’s voice was this episode. I still think that this particular scene, though supportive and loving, is awkwardly edited and just looks weird, though. There are, however, things that bother me more this episode.
Don’t get me wrong, I quite like it. I love Billy Joel, so the music is great except one song which I will mention later. And I love Becky’s storyline, although she makes me very uncomfortable with her constant sexual innuendo and I also wonder where her parents are in all of this. But I think it’s great that she has a storyline about graduating and knowing her options and being afraid. Also, I would have liked to have an independent living class as well, please.
I also think it’s nice to show that there are other options than going into show business, even if it’s mainly lip service and Blaine is of course going to be a performer like everybody else in this club. And it’s ridiculous that him applying to other schools as well is made out to be a sign of his anxiety instead of the only reasonable thing to do. And I love the part where Will says, You may be right, I may be crazy, and Sue says,Oh no, no, you’re not gonna do it and then they sing that song.
What I don’t like is, 1. Sam’s storyline. Yes, there might be a nice message about self acceptance there but it doesn’t really mean anything to me because Sam has, by all accounts, a perfect body and so the message is, Please accept your perfect body as it is. But I hate, hate, that interview at the college. It is so cringe-worthy, and I always hate scenes that make me want to leave the room in second hand embarrassment.
And I don’t like the talk Marley and her mom have about saving yourself for someone special. I mean there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do that, but I don’t get why virginity is still glorified.
Worst of all, however, is Ryder. It’s perhaps a little ironic that I dislike him and not Jake, who, after all, cheated, but he is so pushy and pressure-y here and I don’t like it. “Date me, I’m nice!” So I also don’t like the song Innocent Man. I like that Marley tells him in the end that she doesn’t want a relationship with him, but I think she should have refused the date from the get-go. And that he shouldn’t have asked. I thought it was like, part of good breeding not to bother someone who has just gone through a bad breakup?
As I said last week, this is about the point where I started to get interested in Jake. He has certain self-destructive tendencies, and I want to know what becomes of him. Sigh.

TDB Rewatch: Movin’ Out
This episode’s on par with the rest of season 5 so far - I’m enjoying it. I do think it had the unfortunate weight of being the next Klaine episode - when it should have had to bare that weight. The purpose wasn’t their romantic relationship - it was about Blaine’s future - and even that was compressed to a couple of scenes because they had about ten thousand songs and more Jarley stuff to hash out :P But I still like it overall, and don’t think it’s as bad (or frustrating) as people let on.
Thoughts:
There are more songs than plot in this episode - it reminds me, actually, a lot of season 3 - where there’s a ton of stuff jammed into an episode not really any plot line gets the amount of attention it probably deserves.
That said - I think it does nicely with all the performances.
Let’s start out with Marley and her stupid triangle, shall we...?
First of all, I’ll admit that Jake has grown on me a bit, and I’m sorry he’s only ever given plot lines with Marley, Ryder, and Puck - because he had potential to be interesting if having plot lines that didn’t involve dating Marley :P
Marley - while I appreciate her saying, hey I don’t want to date - I really can’t stand the pressure both her mom and Ryder put on her in this episode. She keeps doing things because other people want them that way and not because she does and it drives me crazy.
Also, I’m so over the whole - you need to save yourself for your special first time crap. What is up with this show and it’s obsession with virginity and owing your first time something??
Also - Ryder’s a dick. He has not grown on me. I like him better when he’s in the background.
Kitty in the background of the episode is delightful - and she feels like she’s risen above the newbie nonsense.
I really like Becky’s college story line in this one!
Also - I’m glad Artie and Becky are still friends - it’s very sweet.
Sue’s actually pretty tolerable in this episode, though I could have done without all the meaningless job fair stuff in this episode.
The Lima side feels incredibly empty without Blaine and Sam.
Meanwhile - back in New York, which is way more interesting than anything in Lima...
Btw - agreed to those of you saying Blaine and Sam look to old to be in HS still -- totally, totally are.
Santana is kinda hilarious - and, like, you’re the one choosing to be there dude.
Sam’s story is kind fun (when it’s not cringy.) The semi-romantic vibe from Rachel is a little weird, but at least Rachel’s actually helping someone for once.
I thought the Bichette stuff was funny. Tyra Banks’ comedic timing is actually pretty good. *shrugs*
Also - is it weird that I have zero attraction to Chord Overstreet?
Can we talk about how Blaine freakin’ bought a piano for the loft??
I still think Blaine shoulda been an elementary teacher.
Like I said above - the Klaine/Blaine stuff felt rushed and pushed aside for everything else going on in the episode, which hurt it the most. But I don’t think it’s as bad as people remember it being. I do address all that stuff in the meta - so I shall direct you to that.
I’ll leave you with a classic BJ... ;)

TDB Rewatch Movin’ Out Epsiode 5x06
“We’re kicking it off with our very own take on a classic BJ... Billy... Billy Joel.”
There is nothing I dislike about this epsiode except the Ryder part of it. I like Billy Joel’s music a lot. I basically grew up with it. Sam and Blaine travelling from Lima to NYC singing Movin’ Out is a perfect start to the episode. The guy at the bus who is annoyed by Blaine singing into his face seems familiar to me. Has he been an extra in another NYC scene? An episode focusing on Klaine and Blam can never be a bad one. Give me all the Klaine and Blam!! I love everything about them. Blaine being nervous about his audition and being encouraged by Kurt is a sweet little scene and even though I know that there’s been plenty controversial discussions about it, I can perfectly imagine Blaine being a doctor. Maybe it’s because of Rainjoy’s sweet and funny fanfiction Unscripted. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s mandatory - and you will never see Blaine not possibly be a doctor!!
Kurt is such an excited little puppy when he introduces Blaine to the patrons at the Diner. The part with the old man stitting next to Kurt at the counter inspired a bittersweet little fic I will recommend on thursday. Piano Man is one of my favourite Billy Joel songs and Blaine sounds great with the perfect addition of Sam playing the harmonica.
I like Sam’s story for the reality of it, not having the money to attend a college, being dependent on a scholarship and not getting one. US college education is a very expensive matter, after all, as far as I’m aware. And the model industry is very competitive and full of unhealthy body-images. Sam struggling with his body (despite it being perfect, already) is a storyline that is very well done. I love the loft-atmosphere with all the domesticity and the ridiculous fact that Blaine bought them a piano as a thank you for letting them stay a few nights (staying at a guesthouse or a hostel might have been actually cheaper, lol). Just The Way You Are: Kurt and Santana are a delight like in all of their NYC scenes together. Him sneakily daring her to sing until she can't resist and bursts out of Kurt’s(!) room in true Rachel-Berry-style with a hair-brush-microphone, lol. The lyrics are perfectly fitting for their respective parts.
I like the Becky part of the episode, because it parallels nicely Blaine’s insecurities about NYADA. The fact that colleges have specific programs for people with special needs has been new to me. I think, considering inclusion of people with special needs, the US school and college system is far ahead of the one in Germany, where inclusion is still in the fledgeling stages. I like Becky a lot, as long as she’s not being mean and insulting everyone in true Sue-style. Sue really has a bad influence on her, but Becky brings out Sue’s emotional side (like her sister did) which is nice for a change. I love Kevin McHale’s voice and his version of Honesty.
Kurt-Blaine Things:
Kurt picking out Blaine’s wardrobe is canon!
“How could I forget the numerous conversations we’ve had about you wanting to be a doctor!”
Little Blaine is adorable!
Blaine is smart to have back-up college options. Because he's right - Kurt didn’t get in initially. Elliot(!!!) and Jesse didn’t get in. Well, they only take 20 new students each year, after all!
I’m glad that Kurt gets to sing more in his lower register. Just The Way You Are is such a wonderful performance with so much meta concerning the lyrics for everyone.
Again Blaine wears the easter-egg colours of spring, maybe to remind the audience that it is still April/May in Glee-timeline opposed to the time the episodes actually aired (late November).
Other Things:
Sue has a point with her concernes about a career in the arts, but there are other professions than just performers if it comes to theater/art like set/costume design, camera work etc. what about these?
My Life: Seeing Jake dancing is always a delight.
Poor Sam. He’s so nervous during his scholarship interview that he says all the wrong things - *cringes*.
Sam’s vision of his model career involvin a larger-than-life ad on a bus is hilarious. Did they actually put his picture on a bus for the shooting?
Sam starts his photo-shooting with the ‘Good-Student’-impression he mentioned earlier.
the talk between Marley and her mom reminds me of The Talk between Burt and Kurt, not so much the ‘save your first time’-part, but the ‘do it with someone you actually trust, and not feel pressured with’-part.
You May Be Right almost causes another school riot in the hallways.
“I can’t stop you from failing but I can promise to make it save if you do.”

Throwback Thursday: Movin’ Out
Time to take out all the old gifsets, memes, interviews, fanfic, fanart, etc and pass it around :)
Possibly the most infamous of Chris and Darren interviews, cause looking at the costumes, it looks like it was filmed around now...

That said - I was able to find the BTS for this episode, guest starring Tyra Banks

TDB Rewatch: Movin’ Out (5x06)
Welcome to season 5! This week we’re doing Movin’ Out!
Graduation is coming soon and Sue begins an annual Careers Fair for students to explore careers and dreams to pursue. However, there isn't anything supporting the Arts and Theatre and Will assigns the Glee Club with Billy Joel music, a person who struggled as an artist but managed to pursue his dreams and become a well-known star. At McKinley, Artie attempts to helpBecky take a chance at college against Sue's decision to keep her at McKinley and Jake's attitude after Marley dumped him worsens, with Ryder deciding to interfere. Blaine and Sam depart to New York for a week to prepare for their careers: Blaine's audition forNYADA and Sam's interview for his scholarship at Hunter. However, due to Sam's lack of passion for college, Rachel assists in Sam's career in male-modelling and Blaine has a change of heart to what he wants to do in the future.
The episode was directed by Brad Falchuk and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Sundays: Pretty much the kick off day for the week, and also where Meta Monday and First Listen Friday are distilled into. So – do that rewatch, dust off that old meta, listen to that music again, then write about it and put it in the tags!
Tuesdays: Will remain the poll, the results will be on Saturdays as usual.
Thursdays: Will remain TBT – and I encourage you to post the gifsets, old interviews, memes, and fanfics – anything related to the episode.
Instead of doing a round up – tag with “tdb rewatch” “todaydreambelievers” or “spaceorphan18″ and I’ll reblog it here so everyone can take a look at it. Also - have any prompts for fanfics related to the episode, or headcanon kickstarters? Feel free to tag me, too, and maybe we can get some good discussions going. I hoping that by reblogging - it’ll start more conversations and/or get things moving a little more than things were in season 1.
As usual - don’t feel bound to my schedule - if you have something from season 1 you’d like to have out there, still tag me! I’ll reblog it with the correct episode tag.

Also - thinking season wise, I think it’s pretty clear how I feel.
Seasons 2 and 5 are my favorites - though I think season 2 has extreme highs and lows, while season 5 is more consistent.
Seasons 4 and 6 Idk if I could choose between - I think I like them equally, tbh.
Season 1 - which has some great things in the back 9, but the Front 13 always feels like a slog.
and Season 3. Ug. But it does have some bright moments in it.
#glee episode rankings#I know there are other people out there doing rankings too -- looking forward to more people's lists!!

August Agenda -
Hoping to be productive this month, but that would involve not being too emotionally overwhelmed. Feeling a lot better, but setbacks are a thing. Anyway....
Meta for Quarterback, A Katy or a Gaga, End of Twerk, and Movin’ Out. That’s one a week, should be fine.
Finish the Pizza and Porn one shot. It should not take me a month to do this.
Regular blogging activity - TDB Rewatch/Podcast/Etc...
Make some headway as to what to focus on in original writing.
These are all reasonable goals. Here’s to this month being more productive than the last. (Even if I did have an excuse.)
