i think the main reason why my original fiction never really goes anywhere is that I struggle so much making main characters that have real agency in their stories

my protagonists tend to be tossed into circumstances beyond their control and just kind of try to deal with them, and it ends up making the world around them much more interesting than the character themselves

#idk what this says about me as a person #honestly i should probably try to write a story about agency specifically and see where that goes #but i've really figured out a pattern here i think #the princess in my dragon story has to flee the destruction of her home. my ocean mage gets conscripted into magic military #ollie is sent to the city because his curse keeps being destruction to the world around him #tbh ollie is the most promising bc he does desperately want to belong somewhere so that's a solid motivation
