          her grip isvicious around him, her embrace tight as though she wants to squeeze him in hisarms, but more than the hold she has around him, he's aware of the tearscurrently soaking the shoulder of his tac suit. his eyes are pressed close, butin the darkness, behind his eyelids, the image of her tear---streaked faceburns and the picture pushes his heart to the floor, shattering to a millionpieces.

         ❛ i'msorry, i'm so sorry, jemma, ❜   he chants againsther shoulder, his own arms wrapped around her torso.  ❛ i couldn't bring him home like  i told you. i... i couldn't keep the promise.i'm so sorry, baby, i tried. ❜  the brokenness ofhis heart lingers on his voice, cracking and filling up the web---like cracks with shame.

         yes, this wholething with him, jemma and... will is complicated. and there were still nightswhen he thinks it's better if he'sthe one to let go, to set jemma free, if being with will ------------ beingwith the man that was there for her when nobody else was ------------ is whatwould complete her and those nights, he stays up to morning light, nursing hisbroken heart, wanting to rip it off his own chest because it hurts. it hurts so damnmuch that it was someone else that was with the woman he loves while shewent through the hardest part of her life. but nevertheless, complicationsaside, he meant it when he gave jemma that promise. when he told her he'd helpbring will back, he meant every word of it. even if it might mean he losesjemma to the other man ; even if it might mean the end of his own life, hevowed to bring that man home if that would ease jemma's pain. he vowed to bring home the man he should thank for taking care of jemma.

         ❛ itried... i promise you, i tried, ❜  he repeats, desperately, in an attempt to make her believe if he'd hadany choice on the matter, he'd have brought the man  home, afraid that if jemma thinks he didn'ttry   (   out of fear or jealousy,whatever  )   she might get mad at himand it might become the reason he loses her even without will. ❛ buthe's gone. it's... it wasn't will that we found. he's... he's dead. i don'tknow how long... but, the thing... it... it violated him, it used him. it triedto use him to get back here, on earth, and we couldn't let it cross. we had todestroy it. we had to kill will again. for good. and i'm sorry for that. i'm sosorry i couldn't bring him back to you. i’m so sorry. ❜
