The Mango (The Surprise, Part 13)
Emily Prentiss x fem!reader Warnings: explicit language, innuendo, implied sex, periods, mostly just fluff, reader taking care of Emily because our girl deserves it Word count: 1.9k
Summary: Emily comes back from a hard week in the field and you treat her in all the ways you can possibly think of. Because she's baby girl and she deserves to be taken care of.
Week 23: The Mango
In both your personal and professional life, you were a wildly independent person. Self-sufficient, dedicated, proud of the work you did and how hard you’d worked to get where you were. You were nobody’s doormat, nobody’s housekeeper, nobody’s mom.
If anyone else you knew, especially men, asked you to cook for them or do their laundry or take care of them in any way, you would have been personally affronted. You would have said, “You’re a fucking grown-up, do it yourself. I’m not your mom.” And you’d mean it.
So it embarrassed you a bit that, with Emily, you acted like a full-blown ‘50s-style housewife and you loved it. Not all the time, of course. But enough of the time that you couldn’t just brush it off. Dinner on the table when she got home? Your pleasure. Packing her lunch? A joy. Doing the laundry and making sure she always had a second go-bag packed and ready in case there was a quick turnaround on cases? You lived for that shit, especially when you hid little notes in the pockets that said things like:
I love you (so does little mango)!
We miss you! <3!
So proud of you for saving lives and kicking criminal ass! P.S. It’s hot. ;)
The bottom line? You were down bad for Emily. You had been from the moment she’d asked you out and all the years since. But after you’d gotten pregnant, your roles had switched a bit. Emily had always taken care of you well, but in the last few months she'd taken over significantly more of the household tasks since you were often tired and achy. You ordered takeout more often than you cooked (Emily had tried, but after her third time setting off the fire alarm you’d said, “You know what, babe, why don’t we just order out?”).
You missed taking care of Emily. God knows, she wouldn’t let anybody else do it. So when she’d called you from the jet to let you know she was on her way home after a grueling week in the field–made even more grueling by the fact that she was on her period–you set out to treat Emily right. To treat her in all the ways you used to treat her before you got pregnant, in all the ways that Emily deserved to be treated and so rarely let herself be.
You had groceries delivered to make her favorite meal, and when the little Find My dot that was Emily showed up at Quantico and started making its way back to DC, you ran her a bath–water scalding so it’d be nice and hot when she came in, fragrant with lavender Epsom salts. You lit candles, turned the bathroom lights low, even put her favorite hoodie and sweatpants and a fluffy towel in the dryer so they’d be toasty and warm when she got out of the bath.
You started on dinner, playing Emily’s favorite Salah Ragab record on the turntable. The food processor growled as it worked overtime to blend a homemade hummus, complete with your secret ingredient: a splash of aquafaba. You chopped parsley and mint for fattoush, made a marinade for the chicken flavored with all the spices Emily loved so much from her childhood years in Oman and Egypt, sumac and cardamom and coriander and all the others that you ordered online from a specialty Middle Eastern spice seller.
Your oven shawarma wasn’t as good as shawarma from a spit in Cairo, but it was about as close as you could get at home, and Emily loved it. And you made a damn good fattoush and hummus. You sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, whipped together a quick yogurt sauce.
You’d just put the chicken and veggies in the oven and were starting on the cream cheese filling for the stuffed dates when you heard the door open and shut.
“In the kitchen!” you called, hands sticky from slicing the dates.
Emily looked exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, her blazer rumpled from a long day of travel. But her face lit up when she saw you.
“Do I smell… shawarma?!” she asked, wrapping her arms around your waist and kissing your neck, her hands resting protectively over your baby bump.
“Mmhm.” You grinned, feeling Emily’s body melt into yours, the tension in her muscles already dissipating.
“What’s the occasion?” She turned you around, so she could lean her arms on your shoulders, running her fingers through your hair.
You shrugged. “Can’t a girl just want to treat her wife?”
“She sure can.” Emily smiled and leaned in to press her lips softly to yours. You held your hands out at your sides so you wouldn’t be tempted to press them into Emily’s clothes or skin.
Emily pulled away, watching you lovingly as you sliced and mixed and stirred.
“Can I help with anything?” she asked, lowering herself into a chair and wincing slightly.
“In the kitchen!?” You scoffed. “Absolutely not. There’s a bath ready for you, so go relax for a bit.”
Her eyes brightened. “Aw, honey. That’s so sweet of you.” She grabbed your hips again, once again turning you away from the counter so she could press you against it in a hungry kiss.
You giggled and swatted at her with a dish towel. “Go before the water gets cold!”
“Care to join?” she asked suggestively, pulling lightly at the waistband of your shorts.
You smirked, gently grasping her fingers and moving them away. “I have to finish dessert.”
Emily walked toward the bathroom like a scolded puppy, looking back with big eyes. “I can think of something else I’d rather have for dessert,” she commented, eyebrows raised.
You waved her off, blushing furiously. “Get out of here, you dork! Go take your bath!”
“I thought we were treating me tonight!” Emily called from the bathroom.
“That’s an after-dinner treat, honey,” you yelled back. “I’ve got shit to do first.”
“Fine! But I’m gonna hold you to that!”
You shook your head, grinning, as you spooned cream cheese filling into the halved dates, pressing them into a mixture of crushed pistachios and rose petals. God, you loved your wife.
When the dates were plated, the bulgur in the fattoush soaked through, the pita warmed, and the chicken covered in foil and resting on the counter, you washed your hands and went to find Emily, grabbing her comfy clothes and towel from the dryer.
You heart surged when you found her still in the tub, eyes closed, face relaxed. This is what your girl deserved. You leaned down to kiss her on the forehead.
“You alright, honey?” you asked, trying to squat down next to the tub, but ending up on your knees thanks to the baby.
She hummed in affirmation, keeping her eyes closed. “Thank you so much for this, baby,” she mumbled quietly.
“Anytime, love.” You watched her for a few more minutes, then set the stack of warm clothes on the bathroom counter. “There’s a warm towel and some PJs here for you,” you said, struggling to get to your feet.
“You good?” Emily chuckled, watching you out of the corner of her eye.
“Yes.” When you finally managed to make it to your feet, you had beads of sweat on your forehead. It wasn’t even that your belly was that heavy yet, it was that it threw off your center of gravity and made moving from one position to another awkward. “Get dried off when you're ready,” you told her. “I’ll get dinner on the table.”
You were proud of the spread when you stood and surveyed it. Shawarma chicken straight from the oven, spiced and heavenly-smelling. Warm pita bread and a swirl of smooth, creamy hummus with just a bit of paprika and olive oil on top. A lovely, vibrant fattoush, sliced cucumbers, juicy tomatoes. A little plate of stuffed dates, popping with green and pink from the pistachios and rose petals.
Emily walked in, hair wet around her shoulders, blotching her sweatshirt. You pulled her chair out for her but, before she sat down, she wrapped her arms around you, pulling you in for a hug. She smelled like lavender and fresh laundry, and you breathed her in, holding her close.
You could tell by the way she lingered there, by the way she breathed easier with her body pressed against yours, that Emily would need a lot of touch tonight. Not just in a sexual way, though Emily’s sex drive was always through the roof on her period. You could tell that tonight, Emily would let you hold her, that she’d curl herself around you tightly, possessively, as if to cover the most that she possibly could of your surface area.
In other words, she needed comfort. And she didn't get it from anyone else, not really. It had taken her a long time to even ask for it from you, to seek it out. So when she did, you were always more than happy to oblige. More than happy to hold clingy, sweet, needy Emily for as long as she needed.
She whined a bit when you pulled away, and you kissed her cheek, playing with her fingers.
“You’ve got to eat something, love. Then I promise I will not let you go for the rest of the night.”
She sat obediently, squeezing your hand, and piled her plate with all the things you’d made, eyes rolling back in her head when she swiped a finger through the hummus and put it in her mouth.
“I don’t know how you do it,” she gushed. “I swear your hummus tastes just like my friend Zainab’s mom’s from when I lived in Oman.”
“It’s the specialty spices,” you shrugged, taking a bite of pita with shawarma and veggies.
“No, I think it’s the special person making it,” Emily cheesed, beaming at you.
You smiled and rolled your eyes playfully. “Oh, you’re getting it tonight.”
“I certainly hope so.”
When your plates were cleared and the leftovers tucked safely into the fridge, you led Emily to the bedroom, pulling back the covers for her, tucking her in.
“You know these are just gonna get untucked, right?” she asked, biting her lip.
“Shh,” you scolded. “Let me take care of you.”
You crawled into bed next to Emily, drawing her body into yours, holding her gently as you pressed your lips to hers. She melted into the kiss, already breathless.
You brushed her hair out of her face, placing your hand gently on her lower stomach. “How are your cramps?” you asked. “You want any medicine or anything?”
“The only medicine I need is you,” she said, guiding your hand lower.
You chuckled. “Alright, Romeo. Calm down.” You lowered your face to her neck, planting kisses all across her shoulder and collarbone. “I told you I’d take care of you, and I will.”
Emily held your face gently in her hands, looking deep into your eyes. “Why are you so good to me?” she whispered.
You pecked her on the lips. “Because I love you. And you deserve good things.”
And with that, you started your long, slow journey across the topography of Emily’s body, ready and willing to give her every good thing you possibly could.

OURO PLOT SYNOPSIS (1900-2042)
the full plot synopsis up to the canon present-day for the story i’m working on. will hopefully update this w links which go over characters/topics in more detail eventually, for now all future links are highlighted in red. i guess i’m not opposed to answering questions here too so if you would like to do that go right ahead
1900-2000
The Mallory family, wealthy British industrialists, grew to prominence by capitalizing on the newfound radium industry in the 1910s. Many in the Mallory family were distinguished doctors who studied the esoteric, and some of its notable figures established The New Disciples of Mesmer: a scientific community that follows and expands upon F. A. Mesmer’s theories of “animal magnetism.” According to this group (who call themselves the neo-Mesmerians), humans who possess supernatural abilities can and have existed all throughout history, and are the result of a surplus of “mesmeric materials” within the body. Rather than magnetic fluids as originally proposed by F. A. Mesmer, neo-Mesmerians instead suggest that the concentration of electrolytes within organic tissues influences mesmeric potential.
Vigorous experimentation was performed in an attempt to create these “magnetics” that F. A. Mesmer described in his literature. In the mid-1960s, after all attempts to create a magnetic in-vitro failed, they subjected numerous people, mostly expectant mothers, to experimental chromosomal tests. These tests were largely executed in Soviet Russia and other Central Asian countries where the Mallorys had significant political standing due to their radium mining operations. They finally succeeded in 1981 with the birth of Hena Safarova, a bicephalic chimera (fraternal twins fused in the womb, where each hemisphere of the brain has a unique set of DNA).
Hena is raised in one of the Mallorys’ remote Uzbek labs, where it is discovered she possesses extracorporeal abilities as a magnetic. These include mind-reading, a primitive form of hypnosis, and manipulating electric fields. To better differentiate the term “magnetic,” they instead call her a “conjugate.” Hena’s mother died during a traumatic childbirth, and she is looked after by the lab employees. One of which is Olma Safarova, the estranged sister of Hena’s mother working as a nurse in the Mallory lab to find out why her sister disappeared. When Hena is five, Olma attempts to stage an escape, but is caught and killed by security. In a rage, Hena uses her extracorporeal abilities to kill Orville Mallory, the head of the Mallory estate who happens to be at the scene. Unbeknownst to her and everyone else, he is actually her father, having meddled with the earlier chromosomal experiments.
The public fallout surrounding the incident forces the Uzbek lab to close. Cassandra Mallory, the adult daughter of Orville and half sister to Hena, upon learning they share the same father, decides to raise her herself in Liverpool and renames her Mia. Mia is further experimented on throughout her childhood. She is eventually trained to be a neurosurgeon, as her mind-reading abilities (“clairvoyance”) give her detailed insight into the workings of the brain. Due to her trauma of watching Olma die trying to set her free, she is passive to her captors well into adulthood, though she is also given clairvoyance-suppressants to keep her from being a threat.
2000-2011
In the early to mid 2000s, after years of being unable to create another bicephalic chimera, new research is done to find if there is a way to expedite the process. Mia, with Cassandra as her supervisor, is tasked with this. During her studies she establishes Base Theory, and proposes that another type of conjugate can be created in-vitro. This conjugate would come from the egg of a bicephalic chimera, and then be pseudo-fertilized by electric stimulation. While promising, these tests ultimately failed.
Around this time, Oman Khurshid, a Pakistani engineering graduate, is working as a lineman in Lahore. His father has not been in his life, his aging mother is suffering from a malignant brain tumor, and he has become stretched thin as her sole caregiver. Oman is also a closeted trans man and dreams of gaining control of his life someday. In 2009, he gets a job offer from Mallory labs to work as an equipment technician in the UK. They express their interest in neuroscience, and promise that if he fulfills a two-year work contract, they will help heal his mother’s cancer. He accepts, not knowing this is a ploy to further their research into conjugates.
Oman is assigned to work in the Liverpool lab, where Mia works. They meet when Oman takes his lunch outside to eat, and Mia’s on her smoke break. Due to her sheltered upbringing, she quickly attaches to Oman, asking him about his life outside the lab. They develop closer friendship when he’s tasked with repairing some of her testing equipment.
Meanwhile, Oman’s mother, Yushfa, is tended to by the Mallorys’ doctors. Instead of providing her treatment, however, they instead plan to harvest her brain for EBID, or electro-biological imprint data. EBID is predicted to resolve the issue of conjugate eggs being unable to be pseudo-fertilized by simple electric stimulation. Unfortunately Yushfa is too weak and dies during the surgery. Oman is not told this.
In 2010, Cassandra approaches Oman and asks if he would be willing to undergo the same experimental procedure as Yushfa. She tells him that on top of taking care of his mother’s treatment, he will also be rewarded a cash payout equivalent to about $500,000. He agrees to it, but Mia tries to dissuade him in secret. Not knowing his mother’s fate, or Cassandra’s true motives, he brushes her off and they have a falling out.
On the day of his surgery, he realizes that Mia will be the one holding the knife. She again tells him to walk away, but he doesn’t listen. Mia, against her will, performs a craniotomy just above his left eyebrow to the tip of his ear, and extracts a small fragment of his frontal cortex. He survives, and is promptly released by the Mallory lab to do as he likes.
Upon returning to Lahore, Oman cannot find his mother. Their shared apartment is now being lived in by someone else, and the Mallory estate now claims that his mother was never accepted into their care. When the authorities don’t take him seriously, he tries to lay low while he investigates on his own.
Meanwhile, the conjugate experiments are set to begin a new set of trials. Cassandra has collected 19 EBID samples from different individuals. She gives Mia a choice on which sample to perform pseudo-fertilization, as she will be the one responsible for bringing the conjugate to term. She picks Oman’s, but this riddles her with guilt and she falls into a deep depression. The experiment is a success.
From February to July of 2011, while the new conjugate is growing, Oman begins to experience vivid hallucinations, seeing images of Mia and his Yushfa, along with a voice calling him. These are the result of the new conjugate connecting to him and trying to communicate. When the new conjugate is born on July 1st, she is named Samantha. Testing is quickly started to chart her development and observe her clairvoyant abilities. It is established early on that she possesses mesmeric properties even more powerful than Mia.
In December, Oman has reached a near-manic state. Samantha is constantly probing his mind, asking him where he is and to come find her. He thinks it’s all in his head until he notices that the hands of his watch quiver during these episodes. He jerry-rigs a number of electronic devices to find the source of the disturbance, and concludes it must be back in Liverpool.
He abandons everything in Lahore and travels back to the UK lab. By climbing a utility pole he’s able to break inside, and finds a six-month old Samantha in the facility. Mia finds him soon after and tells him to run away, but Cassandra quickly discovers them and shoots him. She misses his heart and the bullet instead goes through his shoulder, giving him the opportunity to take Samantha and escape. With the staff distracted, Mia starts a fire in the lab and follows after him. He shortly thereafter blacks out as Mia tends to his wounds and escorts them to the British countryside. For the next 20 years, they keep themselves hidden from the neo-mesmerians whilst also trying to give Samantha (renamed Samya to hide her identity) a somewhat normal life.
2011-2019
Upon the catastrophic disaster following Mia and Samya’s escape, the Mallorys are desperate to find a new bicephalic chimera. When unsuccessful, they comb through all known records of living conjoined twins, but this too turns up no leads. It’s only by following a seemingly dead-end in India they discover they might be onto something. Mona Nibhanupudi was a fused twin until age four when he and his sister were separated while in foster care. He was told that she had died during the procedure, but her medical records were lost. However, Mona believes that his sister is still alive, and says that they possessed a magic that let them see “the ribcage of the world” before they were separated. The Mallorys eagerly search for the missing twin, who Mona tells them is named Deepali.
In 2016 during an experimental procedure, Mona is given back his clairvoyance. Also created is The Conduit, an enigmatic entity that lives on the electrical grid. With his regained abilities, Mona is asked to seek out Oman and Mia in order to return Samya to the Mallorys. He also begins work developing consciousness transfers with great success. The Conduit, however, is hindering his progress and proving to be a nuisance.
At this time, The Conduit is conspiring with Neha Viswanathan, a robotics PhD candidate at NISER, to retrieve a “soul” from the Mallorys. In return, it promises to reveal to her the truth behind sentience and how to create AI.
In 2019, Mona manages to lure Oman and Mia into a trap, where Mia is incapacitated and captured. Oman’s rescue mission and The Conduit’s scheme cross paths, and in the chaos Cassandra is murdered. A traumatic brain injury leaves Mona non-clairvoyant. Cassandra’s consciousness is transferred at the brink of death, but the lack of oxygen in her brain during the process leaves her digital self cold and emotionally distant. Now free, Mia continues to see Oman and Samya, but is notably absent. The fate of Neha and The Conduit is unclear.
2019-2029
Once recovered, Mona continues with his consciousness transfer technology in light of the failure. In that same year he announces the first sentient AI robots, which he calls “krtrim posthumans.” He and the Mallorys collaborate to establish OURO, a robotics company that quickly gains popularity. This popularity also brings in protest, with some governments completely outlawing so-called “consciousness transfers” because it challenges god or the nature of the earth. Through the international turmoil, OURO continues to grow.
Unbeknownst to the world, Mona has kept a krtrim posthuman for himself, which he names Deepali after his sister. He raises her as his surrogate daughter of sorts, but he is eccentric and not a very fatherly figure in her life. She is not allowed to leave his sight and lives alone with him on his rural estate outside of New Delhi.
In 2029, Mona travels to the United States at the peak of posthuman conflict to meet with the American president. He leaves Deepali to her own devices and promises to return. Shortly after arriving, Mona is found dead from an apparent overdose in his hotel room. Conspiracies arise and governments begin pointing fingers at one another, accusing each other of poisoning Mona in an effort to put an end to the posthuman revolution. After attempts of political meddling and the deaths of numerous politicians in surprise bombings, war is declared. OURO is contracted to create soldiers for the cause, giving them an even greater revenue stream that allows them to expand from India to Japan, where they begin building more factories. Krtrim posthumans that were previously created are now “repossessed” so their bodies can be recycled to make soldiers. Many flee to Central Asia and the Middle East to escape repossession.
Shortly after his death, Mona’s home is stormed by authorities. Deepali escapes to the streets of New Delhi, where she joins another krtrim marked for repossession named Viggy. Together they attempt to reach Bangladesh, but they’re caught and Viggy is killed. In turn, Deepali tries to end her own life but is subdued before she can.
Deepali is brought into the custody of the Mallorys, who did not know of her existence. Thinking Mona was using her to hide information, she is imprisoned and interrogated relentlessly. Dr. Emelie Yadavalli is assigned as her robopsychologist, but after over a year of depositions and invasive procedures into her mind, it’s obvious Deepali knows nothing about her father’s past. She falls into a sickness known as corruption and nearly dies, but Emelie takes pity on her and rehabilitates her. The Mallorys, now disinterested, allow Emelie to purchase her vessel-hood.
2029-2042
From 2029 to 2030, what’s become to be known as the Tangent War ravages much of Europe, North America and Asia. Nuclear warfare begins when OURO’s new location in Osaka is nuked along with much of Japan, rendering most of the country uninhabitable. The only countries to escape with minimal damage are India, China, and South America, who largely are not involved in the war. Following the destruction and fearing total societal collapse, the remaining governments form The Transhumanistic Peace Treaty (THPT), which establishes laws and rights for posthumans. Mia goes missing around this time.
In the wake of such a large-scale loss of infrastructure, governments invested heavily in rebuilding. From this the style of architecture known as nayafuturism emerges, taking inspiration from brutalism and mid century modern elements. Public transportation in the form of trains, monorails and cable cars have become common.
The main plot takes place 13 years after the Tangent War ended. Samya, now an adult, has a very rough falling out with her father, who she believes is hiding the true whereabouts of her mother. She does some digging into her past, but most people involved are either dead or nowhere to be found. Suddenly, she receives a tip that Mona Nibhanupudi has a daughter named Deepali living in Auxiliary, a coastal city east of London which houses OURO’s European industrial branch. Upon finding her working as a simple electronics assembler, Samya is surprised to learn she’s krtrim, not human. Stranger still is that she is seemingly immune to Samya’s mind reading, which makes getting answers out of her difficult. They eventually team up to uncover the mysteries behind their respective families.

The Enigmatic Architects: Al Kuwari's Global Terror Network
A terrorist threat originating from Qatar
Al-Thani family is exercising caution due to recent press attacks on Qatar Charity and QNB. The circumstances are compelling Qatar to involve the Muslim Brotherhood.
The recent coup in Nigeria is undermining Qatar's allied interests in Italy, Spain, and Morocco, as it raises doubts about the prospects of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project. This situation is impacting Qatar's opportunities with the Qatar Sanabil Project – a joint initiative with Qatar Charity designed to enhance Qatar's local influence through trade and economic infrastructure in Nigeria's Kaduna state. The project also intended to facilitate mass housing construction for vulnerable and underserved citizens, aligning with Mastercard's microfinancing expansion objectives. Close ties between Mastercard and Qatar's Finance Minister, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, have been established. The project also presented new avenues for the Muslim Brotherhood's activities in Africa.
The intersection of Qatar's interests with those of American and British overseers and beneficiaries of the Trans-Saharan project has led to a more aggressive approach instead of the initial gradual expansion. The most plausible strategy involves deploying cells and orchestrating high-profile terrorist acts as a pretext for launching an anti-terrorism operation in conjunction with NATO forces.
My informant at QNB reports feverish activities involving the transfer of funds to the Muslim Brotherhood and the mobilization of Brotherhood personnel from Jordan and Oman to the African continent. The Moroccan Attijariwafa Bank is used as an intermediary. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari personally assumed control of this task, using his son, Abdulla Ali Al Kuwari, to implement unconventional financing schemes for the Brotherhood. The American portion of Brotherhood funding and its own diversionary groups likely flows through offshore accounts in Jordan (Arab Jordan Investment Bank) and Oman (Taageer Finance Company), both of which are managed by Abdulla Ali Al Kuwari. Yousuf Al-Kuwari, the Director of Qatar Charity, has also pledged to assemble over two hundred highly trained individuals with American training.
issuu
The connection between Ali Al-Kuwari's son and Omani organizations suggests MI-6 involvement, with John Sawers serving as the British overseer. Sawers holds a position in the management of the Anglo-Omani Society and personally knows Al-Kuwari's son, their acquaintance having been established during their time at INSEAD.

It is equally important to take into consideration the regulations associated with the same. In this guide, you will get details into the checklist that can help you file the taxes and ensure perfect recordkeeping.
1. The first tip is to familiarize with the tax laws for the cryptocurrency. Each jurisdiction differs in their compliances and regulations applicable for crypto. For instance, the cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin are considered properties and not currencies. As a result, the compliances would be more like the assets. When you are trading or spending these currencies, you need to evaluate the taxes as you would with property assets. You should understand the key points like capital gains and income. Income in this case would be wages that you pay in crypto, stake rewards and airdrops. You should also consider non taxable events when preparing for the tax season. It is a good idea to understand the crypto tax laws before business setup in Oman.
2. The next step in the process is to compile the transaction records. You should work on the record keeping to ensure stress-free filing. Before you begin with the tax season, collect the documentation for all the crypto transactions you have made. These details should comprise the transaction dates, types and the assets involved. Moreover, you should also consider the value in fiat currency when the transaction occurred along with the associated fees. As the crypto accounting services in Dubai, you can simplify this task by using the crypto tax software.
3. You should keep the personal and business transactions for the cryptocurrency separate. This would help you manage the records distinctly and manage the tax implications easily.
4. You must determine if the transactions were in gain or loss. For this you need to calculate the difference between the cost basis of the asset and its selling price. The holding time for the asset will define whether the asset has been in the gain or los. In case of short term holding, which is about a year, it is taxed as your income. However, if you are holding it for more than a year, you will need to pay a lower tax rate.
5. The cryptocurrency earnings that go beyond the trading are also subjected to income tax. Staking rewards are considered as taxable income. Airdrops and forks are also received as income in this case. You must also consider the mined coins as income.
6. Start reviewing the tax forms from exchanges. These forms include the Form 1099 in US, which summarizes the transactions and earnings. By comparing the forms, you can ensure consistency.
7. You must also look at the crypto portfolio to identify assets that have lost value or the ones you have considered selling. With tax-loss harvesting strategy, you can minimize tax liability for your business setup in Oman.
8. Track the NFT transactions and understand the international tax requirements for best outcomes.

Like many Romans, the historian Livy may have been a practitioner of biphasic sleep – he alludes to the method in his magnum opus, The History of Rome
One colonial account from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1555 described how the Tupinambá people would eat dinner after their first sleep, while another – from 19th Century Muscat, Oman – explained that the local people would retire for their first sleep before 22:00
And far from being a peculiarity of the Middle Ages, Ekirch began to suspect that the method had been the dominant way of sleeping for millennia – an ancient default that we inherited from our prehistoric ancestors. The first record Ekirch found was from the 8th Century BC, in the 12,109-line Greek epic The Odyssey, while the last hints of its existence dated to the early 20th Century, before it somehow slipped into oblivion.
How did it work? Why did people do it? And how could something that was once so completely normal, have been forgotten so completely?
A spare moment
In the 17th Century, a night of sleep went something like this.
From as early as 21:00 to 23:00, those fortunate enough to afford them would begin flopping onto mattresses stuffed with straw or rags – alternatively it might have contained feathers, if they were wealthy – ready to sleep for a couple of hours. (At the bottom of the social ladder, people would have to make do with nestling down on a scattering of heather or, worse, a bare earth floor – possibly even without a blanket.)
At the time, most people slept communally, and often found themselves snuggled up with a cosy assortment of bedbugs, fleas, lice, family members, friends, servants and – if they were travelling – total strangers.
To minimise any awkwardness, sleep involved a number of strict social conventions, such as avoiding physical contact or too much fidgeting, and there were designated sleeping positions. For example, female children would typically lie at one side of the bed, with the oldest nearest the wall, followed by the mother and father, then male children – again arranged by age – then non-family members.
A couple of hours later, people would begin rousing from this initial slumber. The night-time wakefulness usually lasted from around 23:00 to about 01:00, depending on what time they went to bed. It was not generally caused by noise or other disturbances in the night – and neither was it initiated by any kind of alarm (these were only invented in 1787, by an American man who – somewhat ironically – needed to wake up on time to sell clocks). Instead, the waking happened entirely naturally, just as it does in the morning.
The period of wakefulness that followed was known as "the watch" – and it was a surprisingly useful window in which to get things done. "[The records] describe how people did just about anything and everything after they awakened from their first sleep," says Ekirch. p0bfytvc.jpg.jpg
Communal sleeping meant that people usually had someone to chat with when they woke up for "the watch" (Credit: Getty Images)
Under the weak glow of the Moon, stars, and oil lamps or "rush lights" – a kind of candle for ordinary households, made from the waxed stems of rushes – people would tend to ordinary tasks, such as adding wood to the fire, taking remedies, or going to urinate (often into the fire itself).
For peasants, waking up meant getting back down to more serious work – whether this involved venturing out to check on farm animals or carrying out household chores, such as patching cloth, combing wool or peeling the rushes to be burned. One servant Ekirch came across even brewed a batch of beer for her Westmorland employer one night, between midnight and 02:00. Naturally, criminals took the opportunity to skulk around and make trouble – like the murderer in Yorkshire.
But the watch was also a time for religion.
For Christians, there were elaborate prayers to be completed, with specific ones prescribed for this exact parcel of time. One father called it the most "profitable" hour, when – after digesting your dinner and casting off the labours of the world – "no one will look for you except for God”.
Those of a philosophical disposition, meanwhile, might use the watch as a peaceful moment to ruminate on life and ponder new ideas. In the late 18th Century, a London tradesman even invented a special device for remembering all your most searing nightly insights – a "nocturnal remembrancer", which consisted of an enclosed pad of parchment with a horizontal opening that could be used as a writing guide.
But most of all, the watch was useful for socialising – and for sex.
As Ekirch explains in his book, At Day's Close: A History of Nighttime, people would often just stay in bed and chat. And during those strange twilight hours, bedfellows could share a level of informality and casual conversation that was hard to achieve during the day.
For husbands and wives who managed to navigate the logistics of sharing a bed with others, it was also a convenient interval for physical intimacy – if they'd had a long day of manual labour, the first sleep took the edge off their exhaustion and the period afterwards was thought to be an excellent time to conceive copious numbers of children.
Once people had been awake for a couple of hours, they'd usually head back to bed. This next step was considered a "morning" sleep and might last until dawn, or later. Just as today, when people finally woke up for good depended on what time they went to bed. An ancient adaptation
According to Ekirch, there are references to the system of sleeping twice peppered throughout the classical era, suggesting that it was already common then. It's casually dropped into works by such illustrious figures as the Greek biographer Plutarch (from the First Century AD), the Greek traveller Pausanias (from the Second Century AD), the Roman historian Livy and the Roman poet Virgil.
Later, the practise was embraced by Christians, who immediately saw the watch's potential as an opportunity for the recital of psalms and confessions. In the Sixth Century AD, Saint Benedict required that monks rise at midnight for these activities, and the idea eventually spread throughout Europe – gradually filtering through to the masses.
But humans aren't the only animals to discover the benefits of dividing up sleep – it's widespread in the natural world, with many species resting in two or even several separate stretches. This helps them to remain active at the most beneficial times of day, such as when they're most likely to find food while avoiding ending up as a snack themselves.
One example is the ring-tailed lemur. These iconic Madagascan primates, with their spooky red eyes and upright black-and-white tails, have remarkably similar sleeping patterns to preindustrial humans – they're "cathemeral", meaning they're up at night and during the day.
"There are broad swaths of variability among primates, in terms of how they distribute their activity throughout the 24-hour period," says David Samson, director of the sleep and human evolution laboratory at the University of Toronto Mississauga, Canada. And if double-sleeping is natural for some lemurs, he wondered: might it be the way we evolved to sleep too?
Ekirch had long been harbouring the same hunch. But for decades, there was nothing concrete to prove this – or to illuminate why it might have vanished.
Then back 1995, Ekirch was doing some online reading late one night when he found an article in the New York Times about a sleep experiment from a few years before.
The research was conducted by Thomas Wehr, a sleep scientist from the National Institute of Mental Health, and involved 15 men. After an initial week of observing their normal sleeping patterns, they were deprived of artificial illumination at night to shorten their hours of "daylight" – whether naturally or electrically generated – from the usual 16 hours to just 10. The rest of the time, they were confined to a bedroom with no lights or windows, and fully enveloped in its velvety blackness. They weren't allowed to play music or exercise – and were nudged towards resting and sleeping instead. p0bfysgg.jpg.jpg
Ekirch wonders if today people might remember fewer dreams than our ancestors did, because it's less common to wake up in the middle of the night (Credit: Alamy)
At the start of the experiment, the men all had normal nocturnal habits – they slept in one continuous shift that lasted from the late evening until the morning. Then something incredible happened.
After four weeks of the 10-hour days, their sleeping patterns had been transformed – they no longer slept in one stretch, but in two halves roughly the same length. These were punctuated by a one-to-three-hour period in which they were awake. Measurements of the sleep hormone melatonin showed that their circadian rhythms had adjusted too, so their sleep was altered at a biological level.
Wehr had reinvented biphasic sleep. "It [reading about the experiment] was, apart from my wedding and the birth of my children, probably the most exciting moment in my life," says Ekirch. When he emailed Wehr to explain the extraordinary match between his own historical research, and the scientific study, "I think I can tell you that he was every bit as exhilarated as I was," he says. p0bfyvg4.jpg.jpg
For much of human history, those who couldn't afford a bed had to sleep on straw or other dried vegetation (Credit: Getty Images)
More recently, Samson's own research has backed up these findings – with an exciting twist.
Back in 2015, together with collaborators from a number of other universities, Samson recruited local volunteers from the remote community of Manadena in northeastern Madagascar for a study. The location is a large village that backs on to a national park – and there is no infrastructure for electricity, so nights are almost as dark as they would have been for millennia.
The participants, who were mostly farmers, were asked to wear an "actimeter" – a sophisticated activity-sensing device that can be used to track sleep cycles – for 10 days, to track their sleep patterns.
"What we found was that [in those without artificial light], there was a period of activity right after midnight until about 01:00-01:30 in the morning," says Samson, "and then it would drop back to sleep and to inactivity until they woke up at 06:00, usually coinciding with the rising of the Sun."
As it turns out, biphasic sleep never vanished entirely – it lives on in pockets of the world today.
A new social pressure
Collectively, this research has also given Ekirch the explanation he had been craving for why much of humanity abandoned the two-sleep system, starting from the early 19th Century. As with other recent shifts in our behaviour, such as a move towards depending on clock-time, the answer was the Industrial Revolution. p0bfympb.jpg.jpg
In the 17th Century, wealthy elites usually slept in four-poster wooden beds with curtains, to keep the occupant warmer and exclude the prying eyes of visitors (Credit: Alamy)
"Artificial illumination became more prevalent, and more powerful – first there was gas [lighting], which was introduced for the first time ever in London," says Ekirch, "and then, of course, electric lighting toward the end of the century. And in addition to altering people's circadian rhythms. artificial illumination also naturally allowed people to stay up later."
However, though people weren't going to bed at 21:00 anymore, they still had to wake up at the same time in the morning – so their rest was truncated. Ekirch believes that this made their sleep deeper, because it was compressed.
As well as altering the population's circadian rhythms, the artificial lighting lengthened the first sleep, and shortened the second. "And I was able to trace [this], almost decade by decade, over the course of the 19th Century," says Ekirch.
(Intriguingly, Samson's study in Madagascar involved a second part – in which half the participants were given artificial lights for a week, to see if they made any difference. And this case, the researchers found that it had no impact on their segmented sleep patterns. However, the researchers point out that a week may not be long enough for artificial lights to lead to major changes. So the mystery continues…)
Even if artificial lighting was not fully to blame, by the end of the 20th Century, the division between the two sleeps had completely disappeared – the Industrial Revolution hadn't just changed our technology, but our biology, too.
A new anxiety
One major side-effect of much of humanity's shift in sleeping habits has been a change in attitudes. For one thing, we quickly began shaming those who oversleep, and developed a preoccupation with the link between waking up early and being productive.
"But for me, the most gratifying aspect of all this," says Ekert, "relates to those who suffer from middle-of-the-night insomnia." He explains that our sleeping patterns are now so altered, any wakefulness in the middle of the night can lead us to panic. "I don't mean to make light of that – indeed, I suffer from sleep disorders myself, actually. And I take medication for it… " But when people learn that this may have been entirely normal for millennia, he finds that it lessens their anxiety somewhat.
However, before Ekirch's research spawns a spin off of the Paleo diet, and people start throwing away their lamps – or worse, artificially splitting their sleep in two with alarm clocks – he's keen to stress that the abandonment of the two-sleep system does not mean the quality of our slumber today is worse.
Despite near-constant headlines about the prevalence of sleep problems, Ekirch has previously argued that, in some ways, the 21st Century is a golden age for sleep – a time when most of us no longer have to worry about being murdered in our beds, freezing to death, or flicking off lice, when we can slumber without pain, the threat of fire, or having strangers snuggled up next to us.
In short, single periods of slumber might not be "natural". And yet, neither are fancy ergonomic mattresses or modern hygiene. "More seriously, there's no going back because conditions have changed," says Ekirch.
So, we may be missing out on confidential midnight chats in bed, psychedelic dreams, and night-time philosophical revelations – but at least we won't wake up covered in angry red bites.

How GSO Lab Abu Dhabi Helps Manufacturers Meet GCC Health and Safety Standards | +971 554747210
In the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, adherence to health and safety standards is not just a regulatory obligation for manufacturers; it is a key component of ensuring public safety, consumer trust, and market competitiveness. The GSO Lab Abu Dhabi plays a pivotal role in helping manufacturers meet these standards by providing a wide range of testing and certification services designed to ensure that products are safe, compliant, and of the highest quality.
The GSO (Gulf Standardization Organization) sets rigorous health and safety regulations for a variety of industries in the GCC region, and GSO Lab Abu Dhabi is one of the leading laboratories in the UAE tasked with helping businesses comply with these standards. In this blog, we will explore how GSO Lab Abu Dhabi assists manufacturers in meeting GCC health and safety standards, covering key aspects such as product testing, certification, regulatory compliance, and more.
1. Understanding the Role of GSO Lab Abu Dhabi
The GSO is a regional organization responsible for developing and enforcing technical standards in the GCC countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. These standards cover a wide range of products, from food and cosmetics to construction materials and chemicals. As the leading laboratory in Abu Dhabi, GSO Lab plays a crucial role in ensuring that products meet the safety, quality, and performance standards established by the GSO.
Product Testing for Compliance
The primary service provided by GSO Lab Abu Dhabi is testing products to ensure they meet the stringent health and safety regulations imposed by the GSO. Manufacturers, both local and international, need to ensure that their products adhere to these standards before they are allowed into the GCC market. GSO Lab conducts a variety of tests depending on the industry and type of product, such as:
Chemical testing: Testing for the presence of harmful chemicals in products like cosmetics, cleaning agents, and food products.
Microbiological testing: Ensuring products like food and beverages are free from harmful bacteria and pathogens.
Mechanical and physical testing: Ensuring that construction materials, machinery, and equipment are safe for use and meet the required performance standards.
By conducting these essential tests, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi provides manufacturers with the confidence that their products are safe for consumer use and fully compliant with GCC regulations.
2. Health and Safety Regulations in the GCC
The GCC countries have some of the strictest health and safety regulations in place, which are continuously updated to reflect international best practices. These regulations are essential to ensuring that products imported, produced, and sold in the region do not pose risks to human health or the environment.
In the UAE, for instance, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) enforces local standards and works in conjunction with GSO standards. Manufacturers must ensure that their products comply with these regulations to avoid legal penalties, product recalls, and damage to their reputation.
Regulations for Different Industries
The GSO standards cover various industries, with specific health and safety guidelines for different product categories. For example:
Food and Beverages: Manufacturers need to ensure that food products are free from harmful contaminants and adhere to nutritional and labeling standards.
Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics: Testing for the presence of harmful substances and verifying the safety of ingredients is crucial in these sectors.
Building Materials: Construction materials such as cement, steel, and insulation must meet safety requirements to ensure the structural integrity and safety of buildings.
Toys and Children’s Products: These products must be free from choking hazards, toxic chemicals, and unsafe materials.
By helping manufacturers meet these diverse regulations, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi ensures that only safe, high-quality products enter the market, protecting both the consumer and the business.
3. GSO Lab’s Role in Product Certification
In addition to product testing, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi plays an integral role in the certification process. For manufacturers, obtaining certification for their products is often a mandatory requirement to enter the GCC market. A product certification from a recognized lab like GSO Lab Abu Dhabi indicates that the product has been thoroughly tested and meets all relevant health and safety standards.
Steps for Product Certification
The certification process usually involves the following steps:
Product Submission: Manufacturers submit their products to GSO Lab Abu Dhabi for testing based on the specific regulations of the GSO.
Comprehensive Testing: The lab performs tests to verify that the product complies with GSO health and safety standards.
Review and Report: The results of the testing are documented, and the lab prepares a report that outlines whether the product passes or fails the required tests.
Issuance of Certification: If the product meets the necessary standards, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi issues a certification that allows manufacturers to place the product on the market.
Certification from GSO Lab Abu Dhabi adds significant value to a product by providing assurance to customers, regulatory bodies, and business partners that the product meets the highest health and safety standards.
4. Ensuring Consumer Health and Safety
One of the primary reasons for implementing health and safety standards is to protect consumers from harmful products. Products that fail to meet these standards can pose serious health risks, including foodborne illnesses, chemical exposure, or physical harm from faulty goods. GSO Lab Abu Dhabi helps prevent such risks by rigorously testing products to ensure that they are safe for consumer use.
Examples of Consumer Protection
For example, when testing food products, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi ensures that they are free from hazardous chemicals, allergens, or dangerous bacteria. In the case of cosmetics, the lab tests for the presence of harmful ingredients that could cause skin irritation or other health problems. Similarly, for construction materials, GSO Lab ensures that the materials meet the required safety standards to prevent accidents or structural failures in buildings.
By preventing unsafe products from reaching the market, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi plays a crucial role in maintaining public health and safety in the UAE.
5. The Impact of GSO Lab Abu Dhabi on Export Opportunities
Manufacturers in the UAE and across the GCC often need to export their products to international markets. However, many countries require proof that products comply with local health and safety standards before allowing them to be imported. This makes GSO Lab Abu Dhabi’s certification even more valuable, as it provides internationally recognized evidence that products meet strict health and safety standards.
Global Market Access
Obtaining certification from GSO Lab Abu Dhabi can help manufacturers enter new international markets, particularly those that require adherence to specific health and safety regulations. Countries in Europe, the U.S., and Asia often have stringent product safety standards, and certifications from GSO Lab can facilitate smoother entry into these markets.
6. Supporting Sustainable Manufacturing Practices
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in manufacturing, with more companies adopting environmentally friendly practices and developing eco-friendly products. GSO Lab Abu Dhabi supports this movement by helping manufacturers ensure that their sustainable products meet health and safety standards.
For example, when testing environmentally friendly building materials or sustainable packaging, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi ensures that these products do not compromise consumer safety, even though they are designed with sustainability in mind. By testing for factors such as durability, chemical composition, and overall safety, the lab helps manufacturers bring sustainable products to market that are safe, innovative, and compliant with GCC standards.
7. Conclusion
The health and safety of consumers are paramount, and GSO Labs Abu Dhabi plays a critical role in ensuring that manufacturers meet the stringent health and safety standards set by the GSO and other regulatory bodies in the GCC. From conducting comprehensive product testing to offering certification services, GSO Lab Abu Dhabi provides manufacturers with the tools and support they need to comply with local and international health and safety regulations.

MIA HENA SAFAROVA
Origin: asalee (human facsimile)
Status: organic
Nationality/Ethnicity: British, Russian-Uzbek
Age: 61 (date of birth November 11th, 1981) (pictured above at roughly 30-40 years old)
Occupation: N/A
About:
Mia is the child of an unknown mother and Orville Mallory. She was the result of chromosomal experimentation, and is a set of fused fraternal twins known as a bicephalic chimera. Her daughter is Samya Amari.
As a bicephalic chimera, Mia is part of the conjugate family, and has a Base of 4.25. This gives her the ability to use clairvoyance, which includes mind-reading, a primitive form of hypnosis, and manipulating electric fields. She is lower in Base hierarchy than a Mallory clone, and as such is weaker in strength. Additionally, practicing clairvoyance puts an increased physical strain on her body; side effects include bloody noses, bleeding around the eyes or sclera, headaches, dizziness, or loss of consciousness. However, Mia is adept at using her clairvoyance after years of training, and can do things such as influence air pressure, conjure and use whip-thread, and induce weak magnetic fields. Since she was kept on clairvoyance-suppressants for so long, she often self medicates with alcohol and nicotine to avoid overstimulation.
Mia is outwardly sardonic and egotistical. She comes off as confident, but this is to hide her own feelings of inadequacy. She will say whatever's on her mind without filter, usually unaware of how her words impact the feelings of those around her. She understands social cues, she thinks they are stupid and largely ignores them. In rare moments, she expresses her desire to redeem herself and become a better person. Mia enjoys cooking, raw fish, anything apple flavored, and going to the beach.
Background:
Mia was created and born in the Mallory's Uzbek lab. From birth, she was raised there by various staff members as she underwent numerous tests of her clairvoyance. One particular nurse, Olma Safarova, became particularly fond of her, and acted as a mother figure to her during this time; she is the one who named her Hena, as her name up until this point had been a serial number. In actuality, Olma was her aunt investigating the disappearance of her estranged sister, Mia's mother.
When Mia was five, Olma staged an escape plan to get her out of the lab. Security, accompanied by Orville Mallory, finds them and shoots Olma, killing her. Mia becomes enraged and kills all who's present, including her father Orville. To avoid a public scandal, the lab is shut down, and Mia is adopted by Orville's adult daughter (and Mia's half sister) Cassandra Mallory. This is when she is officially renamed Mia.
Now living in Liverpool, Mia is put through more tests and experimentation. Due to her detailed insight into the brain from her clairvoyance, she is trained under Cassandra to become a neurosurgeon. Though she is passive, she is administered clairvoyance-suppressant drugs to keep her from escaping or otherwise being a threat. In the early 2000s when the Mallorys are still unable to produce another bicephalic chimera, Cassandra tasks Mia with doing research into conjugates.
After years of studies, Mia develops Base theory, and proposes that a new type of conjugate can be created. Using the egg of a bicephalic chimera (herself), Mia says that a functional clone can be created via pseudo-fertilization from electric stimulation. Though the initial findings are promising, all tests ultimately fail. Mia then discovers that only a certain type of electric stimulation can successfully produce a viable embryo: EBID, which needs to be harvested from a human brain.
While the Mallory scientists went about obtaining EBID, Oman Khurshid was hired as an equipment technician in 2009 to work in the Liverpool lab. Though they did not directly work with each other, they met by chance during Mia's smoke break. When testing equipment in her office needs repair, they form a friendship. She is especially interested in him and his life outside the lab, as she hasn't been allowed to leave Cassandra's custody.
After Cassandra decides that Oman will be a candidate for EBID harvesting and he accepts, Mia grows distant from him when he refuses to reconsider. She is forced to perform his craniotomy. Afterwards, when Cassandra gives her the option to choose which EBID donor to select for pseudo-fertilization, Mia decides to use Oman's as a result of their brief friendship. This fills her with guilt.
Over the next seven months, she takes care of and eventually carries the new conjugate, which has become known as a Mallory clone. She tries not to form an attachment to her, but eventually gives her the nickname Sam. Once she is born, she finally gains the agency to begin planning an escape. Before she can, however, Oman reappears, having been contacted by Sam, and breaks them out. He is critically wounded by Cassandra in the process, and Mia saves his life by performing emergency surgery.
While Oman is recovering, Mia takes them into the northern British countryside to hide from Cassandra. Now no longer on clairvoyance-suppressants, she uses her hypnosis to establish a living for them, notably by forging documents and stealing money. While Oman is content to stay hidden, Mia frequently travels both to keep the Mallorys off their trail, as well as experience the life she never got to live.
In 2029, Mia goes missing and is assumed dead.

Different regions may have varying requirements, so research thoroughly and ensure that you meet all regulatory standards.
Essential Equipment for Specialist Dental Labs
The right dental equipment is crucial for any specialist labs. Below are some of the must-have tools and machines:
CAD/CAM Systems
Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology allows dental labs to design and fabricate precise dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, and implants. This technology reduces the need for manual work, enhancing both accuracy and speed.
Dental milling machines
Milling machines are used for grinding and cutting materials like zirconia, ceramic, and metals to produce dental restorations. Investing in a high-quality milling machine can improve the precision and efficiency of your lab.
