Ellie Williams, who according to you, is the most annoying person on Earth. She never failed to eat up all your snacks, purposely hide around the house with your brother to jumpscare you, and steal your things to make you chase her around the house to get them back.

This has gone on for what feels like forever. Since the very day they’d met 10 years ago, and they’ve been a menacing duo ever since. And to top it off, she was his supplier. That meant she wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. That also meant that while you were enjoying the shade and splayed out on the chaise, she was purposely canon balling in order to splash you. You pull your sunglasses off to shoot her a glare. “Ellie, don’t make me drown you.”

It’s your brother informing you, and telling you to inform Ellie, that he will not be returning because he’d met up with some friends he hadn’t seen in a while. You shoot Ellie an apologetic look, but she reassures you that she’s his best friend and none of the people he’s met up with can compare. It makes you laugh as you begin packing up your things and walking back to the vacation house.

You’d thought that Ellie would stay but she goes with you. The short walk is silent. You pretend not to see her eyes wander, and she pretends not to see yours do the same. Your hands brushing up against each other but never intertwining.

You both can’t contain it anymore when you reach the house. She nearly pushes you down trying to get you inside, before cupping your face and pulling you in for a kiss. You grab at her hips wanting her closer, and it causes her to moan into your mouth. Her knee pushing between your legs and brushing up against your cunt.

“We’re gonna have to tell him eventually.” You breathe after breaking away from the kiss. She looks at you, soft green eyes piercing into yours. you were a simple girl, you saw brownies— you ate them.

ellie was having a boring day, she had been catching up on a shit load of work that she was late in handing in having spent the weekend partying (for business purposes, of course.) and all she wanted to do was come home to her sweet girlfriend who she had told to let herself into her dorm. she opened the door to her room, stopping in her tracks when she saw you clearing off a brownie she had left in a tupperware box on her desk.

“oh shit.”

you turned to her with a smile, happy that she was back and screwing your nose up slightly. “ellie no offence but these brownies suck, like they taste weird.” you giggled slightly, tracking her with your eyes as she dropped her bag in the doorway with her mouth agape, walking over to the desk.

“babe, how many did you have?” she asked urgently and your smile dropped, wondering if she was saving it for herself and you’d been greedy. “just this one…”

“okay, um, so that’s an edible— babe. i would have given you like… maybe a quarter of that.” she edged herself down on the bed. right now was crucial, she knew it was gonna hit you hard and panicking you was gonna make things so much worse, so she had to be calm.

“what?” your eyes widened, and she wasn’t sure if it were the lighting but for a moment she swore your skin turned two shades paler like it would in the dead of winter. “no, no— ellie i don’t wanna—” she sensed your panic and she came over to where you sat, kneeling in front of you.

“hey, s’gonna be fine. we’re gonna get you some food, gonna put on a funny movie, we’re just gonna chill. it’s only scary if you’re scared, you know.” she smiled, her thumbs wiping over your knuckles. you let out a nervous breath, nodding. “‘kay, ellie.”

it had been 45 minutes and there’d been nothing. you were starting to think ellie’s supplier had given her fakes, leaning against her as the two of you giggled at the stupid scene in the disney movie. it appeared that ellie stopped giggling, but you were still going. everything became funny, and soon you were clutching her laughing.

she leant across from you for her water bottle, uncapping it for you as you continued cackling against her. “hey, look what i got. waaater.” she whispered, as if it were the most important and expensive item in the world. you looked up at her finally in the low light, eyes blows out and glossy and your mouth made a small ‘o’ shape, entranced. “water.” you repeat and she nodded, bringing it towards your lips. “sip, do not chug it you hear me?” she commanded light heartedly and you did, taking minuscule sips. “atta girl.”

it was fine, you felt a normal amount of high for a while — but it seemed to continue to climb. the disney song playing out on the screen had seemed to be on a loop for an hour — a manic blur of bright colours and happy faces. ellie watched you from the side, feeling a little guilty at how amused she was at your engagement. “s’the movie good, baby?” she suppressed her chuckle. you slowly dragged your eyes away from the screen, reaction delayed and stared up at ellie.

“everything is… moving so much.” you closed your eyes, brows creasing as you lay against her.

“you feelin’ okay, bug?” she sounded sympathetic this time.

“j’s wanna be normal now.” you moaned into her, feeling a little motion sickness from her swaying her so slightly.

“i know, babe. you will be normal soon. well, as normal as you can be.” she added in a playful smirk, trying to lighten the mood. you didn’t find it funny however, so she distracted from the moment. “how’d you feel about pizza right now?”

"busy day huh." most days, she's thankful the hospital staff already knows her preferred brew—dark, hot, bitter.

"you wouldn't believe what just happened though." shizune sips her iced latte. "sasuke asked for your schedule."

sakura takes a beat to reply, savoring instead the aromatic notes that slowly wake her 18-hour-shift-riddled senses. "oh yeah. we agreed to discuss new chore arrangements."

"should i blush?" sakura winces. "besides, it has only been a few months. well, a year."

sai hands her an apron and an order slip. sakura releases a petulant sigh, rolls her eyes, and begins to pick the flowers listed. she waits until sai settles on the presentation and prods again.

sai shrugs and finishes off the bouquet. "we had a curious customer earlier."

"hmm?"

"sasuke came in. he said he didn't want reds. it would be too obvious, he said. so i suggested whites."

a customer dings the bell and sakura, already sensing sai's intention, slips out of the boutique like a true swift kunoichi.

"yes, i know it's midnight and i need to go home."

the guard loiters by her door. "actually, you have a visitor. he's at the wisteria arch."

"oh? but it's so late. can't this wait until morning?"

"it's the uchiha ma'am," the guard purses his lips, "he's been camping since eight in the evening."

sakura runs. she hates running in corridors, particularly when half of the people are asleep, but she manages to reach the grounds without an ambush diagnostic or a surprise checkup.

sasuke is waiting. there is a picnic blanket in a hideous shade of bright red under him, a basket, a bouquet, a bottle of wine that must be lukewarm by now.

"shizune said you were free tonight," he said.

"what's all this for?" sakura has to catch her breath. she sits across him and takes him in. gorgeous, even under the pale moonlight.

"i never got the right answers." sasuke pulls every item out of the basket. thermos for hot water, instant ramen packs, dango, a lunchbox that smells like curry, spring rolls. "i don't know exactly what you like. i don't know if you still like the food that you liked when we were kids."

"i still have a sweet tooth," sakura chuckles as she reaches for the dango.

"but i noticed you always ask me to cook curry and you never fail to look for spring rolls." 

"because you cook curry the best, sasuke-kun, that's why i love it the most."

he avoids her chiding glance and hands her instead the bunch of daffodils. "i also don't know if you still like these flowers. you would pick them up in the forest, remember? trying to make me and naruto and kakashi wear these crowns of yellow blooms."

sakura laughs at the surfacing memories. "they're very beautiful, sasuke-kun." she basks for a while in the afterglow of his awkward yet patient persistence as he scoots closer to her side and slowly brushes her fingers against his in reacquaintance.

"what's with all these though? what did i miss?" sakura entangles their hands together, his thumb caressing her knuckles.

"happy anniversary."

“Thank you, Y/N.” Falco chirps as he stacks three boxes of cupcakes on the countertop. Vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, peanut butter and coconut. The sweet, nose-tickling mingle of fresh from the oven goods waters his mouth like a dog in front of a steak. Would Levi notice if one is missing?

“Thank you. Falco.” You tie the straps around your waist. Wheat flour dusts your hair. “I hope Captain Levi likes them.”

“He will love them.” He squints and lowers his voice, fanning a hand toward himself to lure your attention.  “He might not seem, but he has a sweet tooth.”  

You place your hands on your hips and smile. “That’s great news.”

“Are you coming to the opening?” Falco asks apprehensively. His plans would go to the trash bin if your answer were no.

Falco sighs in relief. He checks his mental list and now all his hopes lie in that their boss won't screw them over. He better watch his mouth.

“Great!” He totes the pile against his chest. “See you there. By the way, uh… he likes red.” His cheeks fluster and the bell waves goodbye after him. You watch him cross the street to the new tea shop in town that three months ago was an empty storefront with a weathered for rent sign. About eight weeks ago, taking off his hat, Levi limped into your store with a business proposal under his arm: he was looking for a pastry supplier.

A chuckle drips from your lips as you recall that meeting. Humanity’s strongest soldier, Captain Levi Ackerman is a stuttering and blushing mess. “Thanks.” He clears his throat. “I uhhh… I wanted to know if you’re free after” His eyes struggle to focus on you. Hange must be watching, bursting out in laugh.

“I am.”

“Would you go on a date with me?”

“It took you eight weeks to ask.” You quip.

Levi’s ears turn red.

“My answer is yes.” You open the door and invite him in. “I won’t take too long. I just need to get my shoes on. Don’t be shy and take a seat.”

He nods as you barrel into your room.
