The drive from Wabang to Mount Deston was just over ten hours. Rhett only stopped a couple times to fill up the truck on gas and to get something to eat. He only had one reason to get to Mount Deston as early as possible: to celebrate his cousin’s Robert win at the rodeo. 

But he had a second reason. Eve more important than Bob. And it was her: his sweet love.

Milla Cole-Parker. 

Rhett was sure he was ready to pass out the last hour of the trip. Luckily for him, he spotted a familiar house on his drive. He pulled over and got out. After retreating the hide-a-key and stepping inside, he uses the phone to call the main house and let the Kerner’s know he’s in town and will be staying in the guest house.

“Oh! That’s so great that you’re back in town!” Jade exclaims. “Who are you really here for: Bob or Milla?”

Rhett chuckles at her teasing. “Maybe I’m here for you Mrs. Kerner.”

“Ooh. You’re so cute Rhett. Let me ask Slider if he will let me run away with you.”

They laugh and catch up some more. “Once you’re showered and changed, I’ll have a cup of coffee ready for your drive downtown to see our girl.”  

“Thank you mama Whiskey.”

“Anytime handsome. I’ll see you both later at the bakery.”

After hanging up, Rhett heads to the bathroom to shower. While he would be staying with his cousin, he still appreciated the use of the Kerner’s guest house. 

While he loves his hometown, he knows he has a home here too with his found family. Once he’s done getting dressed, he drives up to the main house for the coffee. 

He catches up with Mickey for a bit before continuing the drive downtown. Rhett smiles grandly when he spots Milla opening the bakery for the day. He parks and runs to hug attack her. “My sweet, sweet love,” he says kisses her cheek.

Milla yelps loudly before she recognizes his voice. She then turns and properly hugs and kisses him. “You’re in town!?”

The smack against his chest causes him to laugh. “I wanted to surprise you. Bob knew I was coming. I told him not to tell you!”

“That sneaky little boy! For that I will make him pay for his breakfast pastries!”

Rhett chuckles again. “Make him pay for my breakfast too.”

Milla just stands on her tiptoes. Nuzzling her nose to his, she then kisses him. “How was your trip?”

“Too long. But I’m glad I finally made it to you,” Rhett wraps his arms around Milla’s waist. “Tonight. You and me. We’re taking a drive to the lake, having a picnic, and celebrating.”

“Celebrating what?”

With that he gets down on one knee and removes the ring box from his pocket. “Celebrating us… You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me Milla. Ever since Bob introduced us, I’ve never wanted to meet anyone else. You’re it for me. I want you there by my side in our ups and downs. Will you marry me Milla?”

Giggles erupt around them. Milla looks up and finds Whiskey, Dragon and Lucky all huddled together holding flowers and balloons. She starts laughing, after glaring at them for not telling her beforehand.

She then looks to Rhett and nods. “Yes. I’ll marry you!”

He cheers and spins her around. Setting her down, he kisses her deeply. Once he lets go of her, her friends surround them and bring them the flowers and balloons. It’s not long that they’re alone again. “Tonight it will be just us. But for now… You have more friends coming to congratulate you.”

And so, Milla’s day was turned around and she’s now engaged to her sweet love.

Okay but like imagine your Amy's teacher and one day Rhett picks her up from school and you've always heard about Uncle Rhett and how he plays with Amy on the weekends and Amy has definitely written about the time she saw him help a cow give birth but what you didn't know was how young he was and how fucking attractive he was.

It's okay because Rhett also had been told (countless times) by Amy how nice you are and how pretty you are and how you make everything so fun so he's also just stunned meeting you in person and he just gives you that smile while telling you how "Amy's told me all about you. All great things" in his low drawl and there's definitely tension.

And then imagine it's a Friday night and you're at the bar and some rando won't leave you alone. You look across the bar, hoping to find someone, anyone to throw you a line (hard when you're new in town).

And oh, look who it is. Rhett Abbott. You make a beeline for him, throwing your arms around his neck as you whisper "put your hat on me so this creep will leave me alone PLEASE"
