Underrated thing about going back to stories as an adult that were big for you when you were young, is finding yourself with a completely different take on characters. Not just "oh they suck" or "they did nothing wrong" but "oh holy shit you are a CHILD and you're fucking up constantly and it makes so much sense".

The nuance of "i know what this kind of messy looks like", i guess?

#anyway I'm re-reading the hunger games #which I first read at 13?#I'm 26 now #anyway hilarious that people called katniss a mary sue she's SUCH A MESS #and so much more interesting because of it #suzanne it's objectively hilarious how her defining trait is “emotionally oblivious”#she's naive #and messy #and overwhelmed #and it makes sense!#and so much of her is going “actually I've never gotten to even have feelings about this because it wasn't enough of a priority #so now I'm trying to decide what i think and it's hard“#not just about the romance shit but also her thoughts on the capitol and rebellion #queen of compartmentalization #which comes with spending all your formative years locked in fight or flight
