𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐏𝐄𝐓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunlight falls down from the azure sky like a relentless, yellow river. The California heat is pure and spiteful, enough to dot your hairline with sweat and make you occasionally fan yourself. It's new to you. But the heat is good, though--you're going to soak in all the warmth you can before you have to go back to your cavernous house, the one with the unpacked boxes and uncomfortably immaculate tile floors.
Moving houses is always the worst part for you. Not even the packing and unpacking and organizing and grocery shopping, but how stale everything feels. Rooms that are bare. Walls that are empty. Windows that are fingerprint-free. Cabinets without crumbs. Rugs without teething toys and swaddles. Floors without mud.
Everything feels cold at the new house. And it will for a while--you know that now after having moved so many times in the past few years.
From where Jake is standing, just a bit closer to the water with your babbling son in his arms, he watches you. You're laid out on a beach towel, a new one with the tag still on it, and your eyes are closed as you sunbathe. For one of the first time since moving back to California--to Fighter Town, USA--you look restful. Peaceful.
"Look at mama," he says to your son, a smile tugging on his lips. He's bouncing where he stands, the sun beating down on his shoulders. "Isn't she pretty, huh?"
Your son babbles, little pink tongue poking out as he grins toothlessly at Jake, squinting at the sun. He adjusts his straw hat--the adorably small one that makes his heart squeeze every time--and presses a soft kiss to his feathery eyebrows.
"She looks so happy, doesn't she, baby? Doesn't she?" He asks, grinning. "Mama's what we call solar-powered."
Your sun grins back--an identical, squinty-eyed, wide grin. And when Jake laughs, your son echoes him.
"Twins," you whisper to yourself when the warm breeze carries the sound of your boys to you. And then you sigh contentedly, sinking further into the sand. "My boys."
"Oh, we're making her smile," Jake sing-songs. He tickles your son's belly and his laughter erupts from his wet lips like a sweet song. "Just look at that!"
"I can hear you!" You call, grinning.
Cupping your hand over your eyes, squinting to see Jake and your son. And there they are, watching you, grinning the same grin. Your tall, broad husband and your little, chubby baby. Your heart couldn't get any fuller if you tried it--you're certain of it.
"Oh, we've been caught!" Jake says, gasping. He looks at your son and your son looks at him, babbling and giggling and slobbering. "Quick! Distract her! Do something cute!"
At all the attention and enthusiasm from his father, your son dissolves in giggles. They're deep and hearty, straight from his belly.
"It worked," you call to them, tongue swollen with affection.
"Knew it would," he says back, high-fiving your sons curled hand. "We make a good team, bud."
Jake turns to look out at the water--the endless blue and the creamy foam. He's missed California, always finds himself dreaming about it. He glances at you again--your smooth skin, your slack face. He's glad that there is at least sunshine here. Enough to keep you warm.
He wonders, as your son reaches up to tug on Jake's sunglasses, if this is where your children will grow up. Will they dip their toes in the water after school? Will they go surfing with their friends on the weekends? Will they have an extensive seashell collection? Will there always be sand in the carpet? Will their hair be forever permeated with saltwater? Will their skin always be sun kissed and warm?
And you--will you adapt to California? Will you bask in the sun after dropping the kids off at school? Will you find all the good wine spots for date night? Will you wear flow dresses and always have bare feet? Will you keep sunscreen in your purse and always have a few pairs of sunglasses on your person at all times?
More than anything, in this single moment, Jake wants to stay for a while. No more moving--for himself, for your son, for you. Especially for you.
𓇼 𓇼 𓇼
There is sand everywhere: in your hair that is still damp with saltwater, wedged between your skin and the wet swimsuit you're still wearing, underneath Jake's fingernails, between your son's toes.
It squishes underneath your feet as you bounce softly, holding your son in your arms.
"Easy goes it," you whisper softly to your son, cradling his soft head as you ease his body--which is heavy with sleep--down onto the mattress of his crib. You know you're going to have to shake the sheets out once he wakes up--sand is still crumbling out of his hair. "Poor baby. Couldn't even make it through a bath, huh? Daddy tuckered you out with all that swimming, huh? Didn't he?"
The room is dark--blackout curtains are always the first thing Jake installs in the nursery--and cool, the sound machine int he corner lulling ocean sounds aloud.
Jake stands in the doorway, leaning up against the frame, still in just his swimming trunks. He watches you caress your son's pudgy cheek, watches you bend at the hips to kiss his face like you always do. His heart squeezes when he glances around the mostly-bare room. He thinks all the heat in this room, every bit of it, must be coming from you and your love.
For a long, long moment, you just watch your baby. You see so little of yourself in your own child, which you used to think would bother you. But you love Jake so much--an overwhelming, unmeasurable amount--that it only feels natural for that love to multiply in the form of a smaller version of him. And he's there, sleeping on his seashell-printed sheets, his lips parted as he drools.
"C'mon, mama," Jake whispers to you. "We've got a hot shower calling our names."
Stroking his soft hair, you inhale all the salt and sun on his skin. Your sweet, sweet boy with sand still in his hair and messing his sheets. Your heart swells at the simple notion of something being genuinely messy for the first time since moving.
"I'm coming," you whisper. "Just give me a minute."

Mundane AU!Laios thoughts
Note:
Probably contains spoilers
Mundane au= no magic and no fantasy 'races' (like... little people are a thing, they exist in reality, some people just have dwarfism. The elves are just skinny racist and xenophobic Europeans like? And there's already parralells made with the demi humans so if I do anything the orcs are Afro Native and Kobolds are somewhere African or Arab. And for the ogres... gigantism is a thing that exists in real like and totally a teen girl would just wear some horns.)
Thoughts:
The Toudens are European-born. From somewhere cold as hell, really isolated and conservative, that's close to some mountains, that's racist towards the local indigenous people.
(The sibs, but especially Laios got chewed out about some shit and has been trying to be better, slips up every now and then but takes criticism well so long as folks tell him what he did/said wrong).
Local weird kids put off vibes that the rest of the village didn't like, Laios and Falin grew up bullied and ostracized. Falin got sent off to schooling in the big city and later to a university in Italy where she met Marcille.
Laios dropped out of high school and joined the military as soon as he was able to b/c he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. Served for a few shitty years b4 just... deserting and backpacking across Europe just straight up homeless and working whatever odd jobs he could find. Man was going through it. Wound up in the same city where Falin was studying at a university in and decided to visit her. She took one look at him and refused to let him just go back to what he was doing, so Laios started couch surfing with her (very much against dorm rules but he looked terrible and Falin wasn't about to let anyone stop her from making sure her brother has a roof over his head and food).
Eventually, she takes him with her when she does a work-study in the USA for her ecology degree and they ended up staying/Falin kinda maybe sorta dropped out and got a job with a vet near where she was doing her work-study.
Laios and Falin are technically illegal immigrants but they're white so no one really questions their citizenship (their working on getting citizenship/papers)
Laios gets a GED. Does some self-study from Falin's textbooks and online stuff but that's about it for his schooling.
Laios definitely, like, lives in Falin's basement. Falin is the primary breadwinner in this household, Laios is aware of this and has learned to accept it even tho he would like to take care of his baby sister and sometimes feels bad about not being able to. They used to share a room in a cheap apartment but after building up enough savings they managed to buy a suspiciously cheap house in a rural town bordering a reservation and not far from a national park.
Laios still works odd jobs, mostly physical labor and stuff where they won't ask for a degree. Has worked retail, where his customer service was trash but he's darn good at just stocking and shelving shit.
Met Chilchuck while working retail, Chilchuck introduced him to the concept of a union which Laios thinks is really neat.
The town where the Touden's moved has a sizable population of people with dwarfism, Chilchuck is a notable member of the little person community in the area. The Touden's go to Chilchuck for help with paperwork (they pay him a small fee) and he doesn't ask too many questions about why they don't have this or that piece of documentation.
Laios enjoys doing citizen science and bird watching. During the tourist season, he runs a small wilderness guide giving campers and hikers tours in the local national park.
There's a hermit that lives in the national park illegally (Senshi) that Laios and Falin made friends with. They love his cooking.
Laios is active in the online furry community. He does commissions, mostly of digital and physical art or people's fursonas and vore stuff. He does great ferals, and decent anthros, but his human art is not good (he's working on it).
Laios is decidedly chubby in this, his weight goes up and down depending on the season and how much physical activity he's doing. But ever since he reunited with Falin, she's been making sure he doesn't skip meals if they can afford to eat. And ever since he met Senshi he's gotten heftier since he loves that man's cooking.

if you’re hearing HAPPY PLACE by LYRIKAL playing, you have to know ANTOINE ‘TONY’ FORTIER (HE/HIM; CISGENDER MAN) is near by! the 31 year old CASHIER AT COMIC QUEST has been in denver for, like, ONE MONTH. they’re known to be quite FICKLE but being EMPATHETIC seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble DREW RAY TANNER. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those HAIR DYED PINK, CHIPPED NAIL POLISH, AND CASUAL AFFECTION vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the DOWNTOWN DISTRICT long enough!
Details:
Full name: Antoine Javel Fortier
Born in California, USA to Edgar Fortier (shout out to the people who were here before -- now you get to see a second gen Fortier) and Michelle Benoit
Family history: the Fortiers are a well known family in Southern France due to the international success of their wineries and wine label. As such, the family has amassed a sizeable amount of wealth. In addition, Edgar Fortier founded Sun Wukong Personal Security, Inc., a company which provides personal security services to the rich and regular alike.
Antoine has never wanted for anything in life. Between his parents, his father’s sister, and the Sun Wukong crew (who were more family than employees), he was a coddled pampered child.
Though gentle and empathetic, Tony has a mischievous streak that’s a mile long. He finds himself pulling pranks and doing things that tow the line between legal and illegal just for the sake of doing them.
For years now, he’s spent every summer visiting his father’s cousin, and apprenticing at his company. Just over a years ago, Tony moved to Denver on a more permanent basis. He still hasn’t figured out what he wants to do with his future, but he’s spending his time hanging out in nature, skateboarding, surfing, and just being.
Potential Connections:
rivals
long term friends
surf buddies
roommate
someone he hooked up with whenever he was in town
any and every thing

Tumblr media
California's coastline is a haven for beach lovers, surfers, and nature enthusiasts alike. From the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the laid-back vibes of Santa Monica, this coastal journey offers endless opportunities for exploration. Cruise along the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping at charming towns, sun-kissed beaches, and world-class surf spots.
Introduction
Welcome to the sun-soaked shores of California, where the Pacific Ocean kisses the coastline in a harmonious dance of waves and where every bend in the road unveils a new chapter of coastal beauty. With a decade of travel experience, I invite you to join me on an unforgettable road trip through California's coastal paradise. From the majestic Golden Gate Bridge to the relaxed ambiance of Santa Monica, this journey is a symphony of beaches, surf, and breathtaking sunsets.
The Pacific Coast Highway: A Ribbon of Scenic Wonders
Tumblr media
Setting the Stage: The Golden Gate Bridge
Our coastal adventure begins in San Francisco, home to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. As the crimson-orange towers rise against the backdrop of the fog-kissed bay, it's a visual overture to the wonders that await on this journey. Take a leisurely stroll along the bridge's pedestrian walkway for panoramic views of the city, Alcatraz Island, and the Pacific Ocean.
Cruising Along Highway 1
Hit the road on the legendary Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1), a ribbon of asphalt that hugs the rugged coastline. The journey is as much about the drive as it is about the destinations. With the Pacific Ocean to your west and cliffs adorned with wildflowers to your east, the scenery is a constant companion.
Charming Towns and Coastal Retreats
Half Moon Bay: Coastal Tranquility
Tumblr media
Our first pitstop is Half Moon Bay, a coastal town known for its laid-back atmosphere and pristine beaches. Explore the historic Main Street, lined with boutique shops and charming cafes. For nature enthusiasts, a visit to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve unveils tide pools teeming with marine life.
Santa Cruz: Surfing Capital
Continue south to Santa Cruz, the quintessential surf town. Feel the salty breeze as you stroll along the Santa Cruz Wharf or test your skills at the iconic Steamer Lane surf spot. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk adds a nostalgic touch with its vintage rides and seaside attractions.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Quaint Elegance
As the road winds through cypress-lined cliffs, you'll arrive at Carmel-by-the-Sea. This picturesque town exudes charm with its fairytale cottages, art galleries, and white-sand beaches. Take a scenic walk along 17-Mile Drive for postcard-perfect views of the rugged coastline and the famous Lone Cypress.
Big Sur: Majestic Landscapes
Big Sur, a crown jewel of California's coast, beckons with its dramatic cliffs, redwood forests, and artistic retreats. McWay Falls, a waterfall cascading onto a pristine beach, is a must-see. Breathe in the fresh air as you navigate the winding roads, and be prepared for jaw-dropping vistas at every turn.
Sun-Kissed Beaches and World-Class Surf
Pfeiffer Beach: A Hidden Gem
Tumblr media
Tucked away in Big Sur is Pfeiffer Beach, a hidden gem known for its purple-hued sands. Marvel at the unique rock formations, including the famous Keyhole Arch. Sunset is a magical time here, as the fading light paints the rocks and waves in a palette of warm tones.
Malibu: Surfing in Paradise
As you head towards Southern California, Malibu awaits with its glamorous beaches and world-class surf breaks. Zuma Beach is a favorite among surfers and sunbathers alike. Whether you're catching waves or simply soaking up the sun, Malibu embodies the epitome of the California surf culture.
Huntington Beach: Surf City USA
Continue south to Huntington Beach, crowned as Surf City USA. The International Surfing Museum is a tribute to the sport's rich history, while the Huntington Beach Pier provides panoramic views of the coastline. Join locals and visitors alike as they embrace the surfing lifestyle that defines this vibrant beach community.
Nature's Spectacle: Coastal State Parks
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
Return to the coastline, and venture into Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, where lush forests meet the sea. The Overlook Trail offers breathtaking views of McWay Falls and the surrounding coastline. It's a sanctuary of tranquility, with the rhythmic sounds of crashing waves and the rustling leaves creating a symphony of nature.
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve
Explore the pristine beauty of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, often referred to as the "crown jewel" of California's state park system. Hike along coastal trails that lead to hidden coves, and witness seals, sea lions, and a variety of bird species. The reserve is a testament to California's commitment to preserving its natural treasures.
Santa Monica: The Grand Finale
Sunset at the Santa Monica Pier
As our coastal journey reaches its grand finale, Santa Monica welcomes you with open arms. The iconic Santa Monica Pier, with its Ferris wheel and carnival atmosphere, sets the stage for a perfect ending. Join the locals for a sunset stroll along the sandy shores or ride the Ferris wheel for a panoramic view of the coastline bathed in the golden hues of dusk.
Embracing the Laid-Back Vibes
Santa Monica's laid-back vibes make it an ideal spot to unwind after the road trip. Explore the vibrant Third Street Promenade, dotted with shops, restaurants, and street performers. The beachfront bike path invites you to rent a bike and pedal along the ocean, embracing the carefree spirit of Southern California.
Practical Tips for Your Coastal Adventure
Timing Your Trip
The beauty of California's coast is accessible year-round, but certain seasons offer unique experiences. Spring and fall provide pleasant weather and fewer crowds, making it an ideal time for a road trip. Summers can be busy, especially in popular beach towns, while winter brings the possibility of dramatic storm-watching scenes.
Pack Essentials for the Drive
Ensure your road trip is smooth by packing essentials. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable clothing are a must, as are your camera and binoculars for wildlife watching. Plan your accommodations in advance, especially during peak seasons, to secure the best beachfront stays.
Embrace Spontaneity
While it's essential to plan key stops and accommodations, leave room for spontaneity. Some of the best experiences on this coastal journey may come from impromptu detours to hidden beaches or roadside attractions. Embrace the freedom of the open road.
Conclusion
In conclusion, road tripping through California's coastal paradise is a journey that transcends the ordinary. From the misty cliffs of Big Sur to the sandy shores of Santa Monica, every mile is a brushstroke in a masterpiece of nature. As a seasoned traveler, I can attest that this coastal symphony of beaches, surf, and sunsets is an ode to the soul-stirring beauty of California's coastline. So, buckle up, roll down the windows, and let the salty breeze guide you on an unforgettable road trip along the sunlit shores of the Golden State.

Film Review 1.
Tumblr media
"The Electric Piper" (2003) is an animated musical film crafted by Raymie Muzquiz and Fred Seibert for Nickelodeon's Nick Flicks. The story unfolds in the quaint town of Hamlin, USA, during the late 1960s. Unfortunately, this town finds itself under the control of rats, led by their ruler, Mister Rat-A-Tat-Tat, and his trusty sidekick, Rinky-Dink-Dink. The parents of Hamlin are too preoccupied with criticizing their children to notice the infestation, so the kids decide to take matters into their own hands with a spirited musical number, imploring the adults to address the rat infestation. Regrettably, their pleas fall on deaf ears.
After their musical plea, the children spot a mysterious man resembling Jimi Hendrix, who claims he can help. It turns out to be none other than Sly, the Pied Piper himself, now armed with an electric guitar and harmonica.
The children quickly realize that Sly is their solution to the rat problem and bring him to a meeting with the mayor. Despite Sly's impressive skills, the mayor dismisses the rat issue, leading Sly to propose a trade: his services in exchange for a Harley Motorcycle. When the mayor declines, the rats invade Hamlin, transforming it into "Rat Town, USA."
Sly fulfills his duty, yet the mayor doesn't hold up his end of the bargain. Frustrated, Sly and the kids decide to flee to a cave within a massive mountain. Inside, they discuss where they'd like to be, torn between the moon and London. Sly, with his magical abilities, transports them to "London On The Moon."
Meanwhile, a search party is dispatched to locate the missing children, but they hit a dead end and are forced to return to Hamlin.
Back in the cave, the kids enjoy a feast of marshmallows, ice cream, spaghetti, mac 'n' cheese, and more. They decide to serenade Sly with a song, and when Mick attempts to join in with his electric guitar, Sly takes over.
The scene shifts to the parents, particularly Mick's dad, Nick, who creates a sign reading "Bring Back Our Kids!" It becomes apparent that the parents are rapidly aging, with gray hair and wrinkles.
Returning to Sly's cave, the kids are "Lava Surfing" for the third day in a row when Mick expresses boredom and a desire to learn from Sly. Sly agrees, but when Mick plays a sour note, part of the cave's ceiling collapses. Sly advises Mick to "Play from the heart."
Cutting back to the parents, they place their children's bikes, toys, and portraits next to the sign. The mayor delivers a speech, but suddenly, they hear Mick's music and decide to sing for their children. Sly continues to instruct Mick, and shadows of the parents appear in the cave, joining the song. When the song concludes, the shadows vanish, and the children implore Sly to take them home. He refuses and, as they approach the exit, plays music that causes the cave to collapse.
In a daring rescue, Mick breaks the rocks, and they escape. While running through, they encounter a steaming waterfall, prompting Mick to craft an umbrella. They spot a cavern and Mick constructs a bridge, but he falls, seemingly to his death. Sly arrives and plays to revive him. The group finally emerges from the cave and reunites with their parents, who have aged considerably. Hamlin is falling apart, and the parents are furious. However, Nick and Mick explain that Sly brought Mick back, leading to a peaceful resolution. Mick plays music to restore the town and rejuvenate the parents, bringing Hamlin back to life.
I rate this film 8/10, best soundtrack I've heard in a film, and great character design.

Joe Ghatt interview
https://www.theselfportraitgospel.com/interviews/the-joseph-ghatt-interview
Originally from the sunny town of Nelson, Aotearoa/New Zealand, these days Joe Ghatt mostly resides in and around Auckland. Spending the last few years working at an undisclosed space company that builds rockets, Joe’s musical inspiration has always had a cosmic and otherworldly vision. Sure to please fans of The Babe Rainbow, Levitation Room and 60s era groups like The Seeds and The Byrds, Joe Ghatt has a knack for effortlessly fusing nostalgia with his own authentic and potent sound, all recorded the old fashion way — straight to magnetic tape. In a live setting; Joe and his energetic 5 piece band transform his humble recordings into a huge, jammy, psychedelic rock show that engages fans and compels everybody to dance. Joe Ghatt’s 2019 cult-acclaimed debut LP Banana Sludge (released by Third Eye Stimuli Records (AUS) and Six Tonnes de Chair (FR)) is a charming lo-fi psych-surf album, featuring hit singles such as the 60s inspired psychedelic-rock number, ‘Farewell’, the hypnotic fuzz guitar jam, ‘Mammon’ and the trippy surf instrumental, ‘While The Coffee Brews’. Joe Ghatt’s eagerly-awaited sophomore album, Caper, is set for release in May 2024. “Ghatt’s a vibe channeller in the modern tradition, soaking his sound in the sepia tones and dust scratch aesthetics of the ‘60s…” — Raven Sings The Blues (USA) “Joe Ghatt follows the lines of Allah-Lahs and The Babe Rainbow…” — Life Without Andy (AUS) “The wild and whimsical world of burgeoning New Zealand psychedelic nobleman Joe Ghatt.” — New Commute (USA) “Joe Ghatt may be a new name to a lot of people, but with this stunning slice of nostalgia superbly executed in a modern style, he is unlikely to stay that way for long.” — Backseat Mafia (UK) “…a collection of warm psychedelia that’s a perfect side dish to your morning coffee.” — Happy Mag (AUS).....~ Australian label Third Eye Stimuli Records have this week ventured across the waters to release the debut LP from New Zealander Joe Ghatt, Banana Sludge. Originally from Nelson on South Island but now residing in Auckland, Ghatt has been performing and collaborating for the last few years with Kiwi psyhc rockers Arthur Ahbez and Kelvin Hurts but has decided to branch out and produce something of this own. For fans of The Babe Rainbow and Mystic Braves, and for anyone with a taste for 60s garage rock sound, this LP which was recorded straight to magnetic tape is a truly organic offering. Opening with ‘While the Coffee Brews’, the short instrumental track is the perfect introduction for things to come, with a prominent organ riff leading the other instruments before leading into ‘Farewell’ which sets the tone. A strong nostalgia exudes from every element in this song and takes the listener on a walk to times past. ‘Any Old’ is appropriately named as it could easily have been recorded 40 years ago rather than in 2019 and blends sounds from country and western with conventional psychedelia to create something curious. Lead single ‘Seven Chakras’ is a piece of real feel good music that could just have easily been jammed out at Height-Ashbury and I think if you asked an audience whether it was an original piece or a modern one, they’d be hard pushed to tell you. Its dreamy countenance creates a soundscape of hazy summer days and pure relaxation. ‘Mammon’ features a full range of sounds including a good hand clap and tambourine duet and the repetition which builds in layers makes for a complex sound that its infectious. ‘Boy Dreams’ is The Beach Boys-esq and ‘Turn To Burn’ challenges you to not tap your feet with that guitar melody that really knows how to hook. Concluding with ‘Growing Cold’ he goes out on a high, with a beautifully haunting organ and guitar combination that sends shivers down the spine instantaneously. Joe Ghatt maybe a new name to a lot of people, but with this stunning slice of nostalgia superbly executed in a modern style, he is unlikely to stay that way for long.......~
Joe Ghatt "Banana Sludge"2019
Third Eye Stimuli Records have officially crossed the pond, welcoming our first overseas artist, JOE GHATT. Originally from the sunny town of Nelson at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, Joe now resides in Auckland where he’s been busy recording his debut album 'BANANA SLUDGE'. After performing and collaborating the last few years with Kiwi Psych Rockers Arthur Ahbez and Kelvin Hurts, Joe found some spare time to explore his own groovy lofi palette; 'Banana Sludge' was the result of this self-discovery. Sure to please fans of The Babe Rainbow, Mystic Braves and 60s era groups like The Seeds and The Notorious Byrd Brothers, the 8 track album fuses classic tones that we know and love, with something brand new and unpredictable, all recorded the old fashion way – straight to magnetic tape.....~ Tracklisting: A1 While the Coffee Brews 1:45 A2 Farewell 2:57 A3 Any Old 3:34 A4 Seven Chakras 2:55 A5 Mammon 3:40 B6 Boy Dreams 3:04 B7 Turn to Burn 2:33 B8 Growing Cold 2:54 B9 The Run 3:41 B10 New Skin 2:26
Joe Ghatt  "Caper " 2024
Five years on from his impressive debut album, 'Banana Sludge', we are buzzing to welcome back our beloved Aotearoa-based psychedelic and garage rock artist, Joe Ghatt with his forthcoming sophomore album, Caper — set for release on June 14th via Third Eye Stimuli Records, Echodelick Records (USA) and Six Tonnes de Chair (FR). Following the unexpected acclaim from his charming lo-fi 2019 debut album, followed by a successful first tour of Australia’s east coast and supporting California’s Allah Las on their 2020 New Zealand tour, Joe Ghatt excitedly got to work on his follow up record — a process that became a three year journey, battling the isolation of Covid-19 lockdowns, whilst getting deep in his exploration of new influences, sounds and production. The process for making his follow up record saw moments when Joe was pushed to his limits — mentally, physically and environmentally — but through his musical endeavour, he learned to make light of situations and in the end realised that the whole process was a kind of "dance". Joe Ghatt's forthcoming record 'Caper' is a labour of love and dedication that sees the New Zealand artist evolving his jangly psych and surf-infused garage rock sound with exciting, exotic style and sounds, exploring his love for Afro-Beat, Tropicalia, Bossa Nova, Peruvian and Latin music. With Joe writing the bones of all the songs on his faithful nylon string — the first instrument he learnt to play when living in Spain as a young teen — the album is a highly percussive and rhythmic journey that will delight the senses and imagination. Different to Joe’s 2019 debut album Banana Sludge, where he recorded and mixed the album all through his Tascam Reel-To-Reel, on Caper, Joe enlisted Melbourne’s John Lee (The Murlocs, Bananagun, Sunfruits) to mix and master the album, giving it a contemporary sound, while staying true to Joe’s colourful, analogue charm....~ Credits All songs written, performed and recorded by Joe Ghatt Jonty O'Connor - Drums + Percussion Andres Reboratti - Flutes + Saxophones Emilio Martins - Percussion (Orange October + A Cold Wind) Patrick Gorce - Percussion (Always Remember) B.Vs - Laure Briard (Orange October) Tracklisting: Side A 1.
