Affordable flooring solutions for schools
Flooring solutions for the educational sector that are kind to your pockets
Finding the ideal, high-quality carpet tiles for a school environment is no walk in the park but starting from a teeny tiny £1.89 a pop, we’ve got some outstanding flooring solutions that are sure to hit the spot.
With the classrooms slowly filling back up and the return of the pitter patter of little feet, the education sector can be the most challenging and treacherous for your poor floor. Spillage after spillage, a constant stream of traffic and a whole host of heavy furniture - it really is put to the test, bush tucker trial style.
Picking the right flooring solution for any educational environment is of utmost importance, the last thing you want is to have to explain to the headmaster that the flooring you spent 7 hours of overtime carefully selecting has only lasted 3 weeks. Luckily, thanks to the range of high-quality, sturdy flooring solutions for schools available from DCTUK, you won't have to endure such a painful (and embarrassing) interaction.
But fear not, we know how it works with you teachers and we have completed our homework and have put together our very best flooring solutions for the education sector (hoping for an A* by the way).
Nouveau Connections
Let’s start with Nouveau Connections, the most affordable commercial tile at DCTUK. Despite its budget friendly price, it’s quality and durability cannot be faulted. Made with Stainsafe material and 100% Polypropylene these tiles are one tough cookie. Available in a choice of 10 of muted and minimal block colours, this range is perfect for any light and airy working areas.
Heckmondwike Supacord
From the stab of heavy table legs to the scrape of furniture and the weight of hyperactive castor wheels, these fibre-bonded tiles are up to any task. Produced using part-polypropylene, part-nylon and a mix of high-performance fine rib fibres, Supacord tiles are highly durable making them perfect for a herd of elephants (oh sorry I mean children). What makes them even more idyllic is their colour choices, have you ever seen an orange or green so bright?
Nouveau Carnival
These modern tufted tiles are perfect for heavy commercial use, giving you a top of the range aesthetic at rock bottom prices. With 14 shades to choose from to inject bright colours and patterns to create a fun and playful space, the Nouveau Carnival collection is sure to put a big cheesy grin on your chops. Rated an A for continuous castor chair use and a 30db impact noise rating, these are mega benefits especially for schools where noise control is of paramount importance.
Modulyss First Forward
Whether it’s for educational spaces for small and curious minds to learn or for sophisticated design to kit out a lecture theatre, with Modulyss First Forward you’ll be able to find the perfect look, feel and colour to suit your flooring needs. This on trend and premium quality tile boasts strong rubbing fastness, as well as colour and light fastness making them ideal for any large space with heavy footfall. First Forward will certainly not leave you counting your pennies thanks to its impressively low price point.
Desso Essence
Well it’s no secret (as we've mentioned it approximately 58 times in this post) that flooring for schools must be highly durable and hard wearing due to the high amount of footfall experienced day in day out and not to mention mud, dirt and pasta pot stains that are inevitable when children are present. Desso Essence boasts premium quality but without the premium price tag. Ideal for boarders, walkways and feature areas and an extensive palette of 31 block colourways, these are the star pupils that you’ve been searching for.
Polysafe Standard PUR
Standard by name but certainly not standard by nature. Available in 16 traditional yet stylish designs and boasting sustainable slip resistant properties, it comes as no surprise that this vinyl is so bloomin’ popular. Ideal for heavy traffic areas with high spillage risks, such as canteen and eating areas, Polysafe Standard is the perfect combination of both style and safety.

Add a pop of colour to classrooms this summer
Throw it back to all those years ago when you were at school, can you remember what your classroom was like? For me all I can picture is a dimly lit, extremely dull and beige classroom with zilch colour in sight. Sounding familiar?
Colour is such a fundamental part of our lives and it can have a huge affect on our emotions and can also stimulate our moods (now it makes sense why I’m so moody all the time, it’s the all black kitchen. Duh).
Unsurprisingly, young children thrive in brightly coloured environments. However colour in schools, especially the colour of classroom floors, is frequently overlooked. It has been proven that injecting a pop of colour into a classroom environment can stimulate participation, promote physical and mental health and aid information retention (frantically throws anything black and brown in sight out of the window).
The use of colour through carpet tiles can also help define a rooms purpose, whether it’s for creative learning or quiet rest and study. Zoning areas also allows children to understand how certain areas of a room are used.
Here at DCTUK we have a great selection of vibrant tiles sure to brighten up any classroom.
Heckmondwike Supacord
Supa by name and super by nature. A bit of an industry legend, this fibre bonded tile is ideal for schools, which are often areas of heavy wear and tear, as it will not ravel or fray ensuring durability and low cost maintenance.
The combination of polypropylene, polyamide and polyester offers anti-static qualities, fire-resistance and thermal insulation to name just a few. But most importantly and what we’re all here for, it is available in 40+ colourways, featuring brights and neutrals, allowing you to get creative with zoning too!
Burmatex Cordiale
From the stab of heavy table legs to the scrape of furniture and the weight of hyperactive castor wheels, commercial carpets certainly have a lot to contend with but these fibre-bonded tiles are up to the task. Produced using part-polypropylene, part-nylon and a mix of high-performance fine rib fibres, these tiles are highly durable making them perfect for any school setting. Oh but what makes them even more idyllic is their colour choice, have you ever seen an orange so bright?
Modulyss Pure Air100
Every school has that one watery-eyed person who is constantly coughing and spluttering all over their notepad. With Pure Air100 you can wave goodbye to harmful airborne particles and the spread of germs with this innovative, dust-capturing carpet tile from the geniuses at Modulyss. As well as being technically tip-top, each of the 7 loop pile colourways strike the ideal balance between style and subtly for an interior aesthetic that lends itself perfectly to the modern work space.
Heuga 727
Heuga 727 will be sure to energise any classroom, oozing with colour, this durable and hard wearing collection is well suited to heavy contract use. Boasting wear-resistant, self-repairing, fire-resistant AND anti-static nylon fibres, high-footfall will be no problemo for these bad boys. Super easy to clean and available in 48 colourways, it’s not surprise that these modular carpet tiles are one of the most popular loop pile designs on the market
Nouveau Elite Prismatic
Elite Prismatic cleverly uses colour to bring just the right amount of pizazz to any learning environment. A tight, tufted loop construction teams up with a tough bitumen backing to provide a load-bearing flooring solution that will remain resilient in the face of castor chairs, heavy furniture and a never-ending stream of students. Fire-resistant, thermal and sound absorbing properties are also mega benefits especially for schools where safety, comfort and noise control are all of paramount importance.
Modulyss Millennium Nxtgen
Re-vamp classrooms with this vibrant range of carpet tiles that transforms boring spaces at the speed of light and remains a firm favourite in commercial spaces. Made out of 100% regenerated ECONYL yarn these tiles are environmentally friendly and highly durable. Suitable for castor chair use and so bright you might need to pop on your shades.

How to buy flooring for a church or place of worship?
If you work or volunteer for a church and you've been tasked with buying the new flooring it can be very daunting prospect. What flooring should I get for the church? How much will it cost? What is suitable for which area? How to fit the flooring into the church?
Well, don't worry - this guide should help you understand the basic points and answer some of those questions. If you have more questions - which you probably will - we're always here to help. Just use our live chat service or call us on 0345 222 1544. We won't try and arm wrestle you into buying something - if you just need advice, that's cool.
What type of flooring does each room need?
First thing to do is to think of the room that requires the flooring. Is it a meeting room? Is it a large hall? Is it going to have lots of people walking over it or not? Generally speaking, large halls or areas with lots of space will use carpet tiles. Although it is becoming more popular to use a wood effect sheet vinyl or LVT in some large areas or side by side with carpet tiles.
An example of this would Polyflor Expona Flow sheet vinyl that we fitted alongside Forbo Tessera Contour carpet tiles at Burbage Methodist Church in Leicestershire:
If it’s a toilet area, children’s hall or sports facility then you would most likely need sheet vinyl. This is supplied on a roll 2m in width and has a smooth texture. In facilities that have water you would also need safety vinyl, which gives additional anti-slip properties to the floor.
You can visit our Churches page to see some great options.
Which product should I buy?
The amount you need to spend usually depends on how much use the floor will get. Generally speaking, a pricier carpet tile will have greater strength and durability. For very high traffic areas such as reception areas or entrance areas you need something with a bit of an extra ‘bite’ to ensure the flooring doesn’t wear away quickly.
Entry level carpet tiles for churches
If your church is on a real tight budget our most affordable commercial carpet tile is Nouveau Connections. This is a great carpet tile for all general areas and has StainSafe properties which means if you spill something on it, you can clean it with diluted bleach.
Here are some pictures of Nouveau Connections that we supplied to Liverpool One Church in Liverpool:
If you’re looking for entry level but need a more durable option, then we have a fantastic nylon tile called Nouveau Carnival which comes with a 15 year guarantee and very durable credentials. We supplied and fitted 300m2 of Nouveau Carnival into Ashbourne Elim Church in Derbyshire alongside super-strong Burmatex Grimebuster for their entrance areas:
Mid-level carpet tiles
If you can afford to push the boat out a little further, then we would recommend fibre-bonded carpet tiles such as Heckmondwike Supacord – a very durable commercial tile, popular in schools and churches. It has a brilliant choice of colours and will cope with high levels of traffic.
We fitted 50m2 of Supacord into Tiptree United Reformed Church in Essex:
Premium carpet tiles for churches
If you’re looking for a more design-led look then you could go the same direction as Street Baptist Church in Glastonbury. They chose 500m2 of Interface Employ Dimensions carpet planks alongside 140m2 of Moduleo Transform luxury vinyl tiles. The combination of the stone effect of the LVT and the modern fresh look of the Employ Dimensions collection really worked well.
So, whether you’re thinking of fitting the flooring yourself, or you want us to roll our sleeves up and take on the project, you can find a lot of different options for your church flooring project. And as we said at the beginning of this blog post, we’re only a phone call away if you need advice. Don’t forget we also offer a free design service if you choose DCTUK as your fitting service – and you just have to provide us with your plans, and we’ll do the rest.
