@mythvoiced sent in: Word of advice, stopping for a moment, going a little slower, listening a little longer, widening your peripherals just by taking the time to look around the room, stopping to read between the lines might make growing closer to others easier~ (based on her personality descriptions~) || advice that'll go for miles ( ft. word of advice meme. )
For a long moment, she stares at the other person- if it weren’t for the paper being folded over and over in her hand, you might think she was frozen in place. Her therapist has said something similar, hasn’t he? He once suggested gently that she slows down a little- she’s still young so she ought to ‘stop and smell the roses on the side of the road’ while there’s still a chance.
That last statement made absolutely no sense to her- for one thing, they live in LA, where sun never seems to go down. If there were roses on the side of the road, they’re not going to last long enough for anyone to sniff them let alone notice in the first place.
Isn’t that what life working in the LAPD is like anyways? In a sea of cases where the truth is more often gruesome than ideal, it’s better to compartmentalize or even better yet, keep looking forward. Let yourself fall apart for even a moment and it’ll be even harder to put yourself back together.
At least that’s how one of her co-workers put it once. It’s no wonder everyone in the office has some kind of sense of humor. It’s a necessity- a little light in the midst of the dark. Everything is go, go, go because stopping even just once invites the chance of shattering.
And she can’t afford that. Not yet.

“…Maybe,” she says finally, hands transforming the paper into a sakura blossom. “But I can’t stop now. Not when I haven’t found them, yet.”
