The Russian Sukhoi Su-57 “Felon”, the world’s least numerous 5th generation fighter jet, and arguably the worst one in service, has now become the first of its kind to have a combat loss, after one aircraft was severely damaged/partially destroyed in an Ukrainian drone attack launched earlier today inside Russia, 500 kilometers (around 250 miles) from the nearest frontline.

It’s doubly confounded by the fact that as of 2024, no combat use of the Su-57 has been confirmed inside Ukrainian airspace, with Russian claims of use of the type without any visual proof.

The other 5th gen jets in service are the American F-22 Raptor, with less than 200 units built, and F-35 Lightning II, the most numerous stealth fighter jet with over 1000 units built, both with combat deployments, and the F-35 already involved in air raids with the Israeli Air Force, and the Chinese J-20, which hasn’t been deployed anywhere outside mainland China, but which is now is mass production with at least 200 units built, compared with the estimated 30 or so of the Su-57.

Deliveries of the Su-57 to the Russian Air Force with second-stage engine "will occur in the near future"

Russia's Rostec State Corporation is prepared to deliver Sukhoi Su-57 combat aircraft with the advanced Izdeliye-30 (Product 30) or second stage engine.

According to a Rostec statement of May 12, the Su-57 is currently in testing with the second-stage engine, with plans to deliver aircraft equipped with these new engines in the near future.

“The Su-57 is being tested with a second-stage engine. Deliveries of aircraft with new engines are planned for the near future,” the company said.

Although not confirmed, it is expected that all future Su-57 will be equipped with the Izdeliye-30 (AL-51F-1) engine, marking a crucial step to the full realization of the Stealth capabilities of the Su-57 in series production.

Since the end of 2022, the Russian Aerospace Forces have received several batches of Su-57 aircraft, some with the new engine, promising greater thrust and supercruise capabilities.

The Izdeliye-30 engine has a post-combustion thrust of 18,000 kgf and a maximum thrust of 11,000 kgf, resulting in a 1.2-fold increase in the thrust-to-weight ratio. This increases the ascent rates to 330-350 m/s and agility during maneuvers. It also raises the service ceiling and supersonic cruising speed to 2,150-2,200 km/h, with a maximum speed of 2,600-2,700 km/h.

The introduction of the Izdeliye-30 engine is expected to improve game thrust, fuel efficiency and reduce weight and maintenance requirements.

A striking feature of the Izdeliye-30 engine is its exhaust nozzle that increases thrust efficiency, stability, maneuverability and reduces engine noise. The addition of chevron-shaped exhaust nozzles significantly reduces the aircraft's infrared (IR) and radar signatures, improving its stealth characteristics.

The AL-51F-1 (Izdeliye 30) is an advanced turbofan engine with two-axis, low bypass post-combustion design. Notable improvements over its predecessor, the AL-41F1, include fiberglass plastic IGVs and convergent-divergent nozzles with serrated flaps to minimize radar visibility. The AL-51F-1 engine also shows a 19% increase in the thrust/weight ratio, a 6.4% increase in specific thrust and a 9% reduction in specific fuel consumption.

Yeah okay, so to anyone that might be freaking out about the Su-27/MQ 9 collision and if it might lead to a US-Russian conflict, honestly it’s really blasé compared to what it could be. If anything it’s funny.

The MQ 9 Reaper is an unmanned drone (UAV = unmanned aerial vehicle). Key word: unmanned. This would be a different story if this were an incident between two pilots. However, it’s not. It’s an incident between one pilot in a $30 million aircraft and a $32 million remote-controlled/autonomous-capable drone.

At most this footage displays the historic unprofessionalism and poor training of most Russian pilots. The pilot dumps fuel on the drone for whatever reason. That plume you see? Fuel dumping. And then the pilot attempts to physically hit the drone - which costs more than his own aircraft in conversion - in the propellor. The Reaper is basically a fly. The Russian pilot just attempted to spray it with Raid and then gave up on that and used themselves as the world’s most costly flyswatter. Make no mistake that the damage they could’ve inflicted on themselves is a real and dangerous possibility. If the pilot were smart (or perhaps better trained) they should’ve just used the Su-27’s GSh-30-1 30 mm autocannon platform. What a far more intelligent (and safer) idea.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Analis Intelijen, Pertahanan dan Keamanan Ngasiman Djoyonegoro mengatakan bahwa penetapan Kolonel Anton Pallaguna yang merupakan pilot tempur Sukhoi sebagai ajudan Presiden Prabowo Subianto dinilai tepat karena yang bersangkutan memiliki pengalaman cemerlang.

"Kolonel Anton ini berasal dari korps penerbang tempur. Menguasai berbagai pesawat tempur yang berasal dari blok barat maupun timur," kata Simon sapaan Ngasiman Djoyonegoro di Jakarta, Jumat.

Menurut dia, Kolonel Anton Pallaguna merupa lulusan akademi angkatan udara tahun 2000, di mana tugas terakhir sebelum di angkat sebagai ajudan Presiden adalah Asisten Operasi Kosek IKN sebelum menjadi Pasis Dikreg LII Sesko TNI 2024.

Ia menjelaskan bahwa Kolonel Anton pernah juga membidangi dan bergabung dalam tim aerobatik TNI AU kebanggaan Indonesia, the Jupiters. Selama 24 tahun bertugas dalam berbagai operasi matra udara dan operasi gabungan TNI khususnya operasi pertahanan udara. Pengalaman ini langka dan memberikan perspektif tentang pola ancaman pertahanan udara.

Simon mengatakan, pengalaman ini semakin diperkuat dengan berbagai prestasi penyelamatan lainnya. Kolonel Anton diganjar penghargaan "Well Done Award" oleh KSAU atas tindakan heroiknya menyelamatkan pesawat SU-30 MK2 TS-3009 yang mesinnya meledak di Udara akibat Foreign Object Damage sehingga alutsista mahal negara bisa diselamatkan tanpa ada korban jiwa.

"Ini mempertegas jiwa patriotik dan nasionalisme sang Kolonel Anton, sehingga sudah tepat ditetapkan sebagai ajudan presiden," tuturnya.

Ia menambahkan bahwa Kolonel Anton, dikenal tak cepat puas dengan kapasitas yang dimilikinya. Upaya pengembangan diri tanpa henti terus dilakukannya.

"Ini menunjukkan bahwa pengabdian kepada bangsa dan negara harus total dan cerdas," kata Simon dalam keterangannya.

Kolonel Anton tercatat menyelesaikan S1 di Universitas Narotama, Surabaya. Setelah itu, dia melanjutkan pendidikan S2 warfare studies di Air University, Alabama USA dan pendidikan S3 manajemen strategi di Universitas Hasanuddin dengan predikat cumlaude dan menjadi lulusan terbaik fakultas Program Doktor dengan IPK 4.00.

Saat ini Kolonel Anton tengah merampungkan 2 program master untuk strategi perang di Universitas Pertahanan dan manajemen sumber daya manusia di Universitas Kristen Indonesia.

Secara militer, Kolonel Anton menempuh pendidikan yang cukup signifikan. Sekolah komando dan kesatuan (Sekkau Angkatan ke-88) pada 2012, Sekolah staf dan komando (USA Air Command and Staff College) pada 2015, Sekolah staf dan komando TNI (Dikreg LII Sesko TNI 2024).

Sementara pendidikan singkat atau kursus yang pernah diikutinya tak kalah memberikan keahlian yang lebih mumpuni, yaitu pelatihan G-fet di Singapura pada 2004 dan 2008, Armed Pilot And Fast Jet Crew Refresher Raaf Edinburgh dan 162 Flying Instructor Course.

Selain itu juga pernah mengikuti Raaf East Sale Base-Australia, Sukhoi 27 Flying Course di Rusia pada 2011, SU- 27/30 Simulator Training Course di China pada 2012, Advanced Weapon Aplication dan Advanced Combat Training, pada 2013, dan Specialized English Course dan Flight Safety Officer di Amerika Serikat pada 2016.

Simon mengatakan, segudang pengalaman ini memberikan bekal untuk membangun prestasi kemiliteran. Selain “Well Done Award” Kolonel Anton tercatat menerima penghargaan berupa Trisakti Viratama AAU tahun 1998, 1999, 2000, penghargaan lulusan terbaik sekolah penerbang TNI AU A-64 tahun 2002, dan lain sebagainya.

"Tugas berat menjadi ajudan Presiden Prabowo disematkan ke pundak Kolonel Anton. Mengawal presiden, artinya memastikan keselamatan Kepala Negara, dan demikian menjaga keselamatan bangsa," katanya.
