#such a hyperbolic statement to say miguel beats children as if miles didn't hold his own...? and as if we aren't... watching an action movie

miguel is a good character to me because he is a villain that the audience will be simultaneously begrudged and delighted to call a villain. like he is so hell bent on the balance of the universe that he will shirk off the responsibility of the REAL threat (the spot) to go beef with a fucking 15 year old. his motivation is good in that he has a job to do and believes miles (an anomaly that probably doesn't NEED to follow the spider canon) must oblige his "destiny," to maintain equilibrium, but is so consumed by this duty that he is blind to the thing that's going to actually cause a real problem. he is too wretched with pride-- a being of ego and regret-- he doesn't want to see miles do the same thing that he did, even though miles is not trying to do that at all. he thinks he's helping, yet he's bearing his teeth and claws. he is intricate and interesting and lawfully evil and cool and flawed and i think that it's important to have characters who are written like actual fucking people
