"The suō—an unlined hemp suit with double-width sleeves, large sleeve openings, and matching pleated hakama pants—was originally part of the samurai wardrobe and was later adapted to Kyōgen comic theater. White rabbits hop over waves on this suit, the playful motif referring to the story “The Hare of Inaba,” from the Records of Ancient Matters (Kojiki, ca. 710). This text was later referenced in the Noh play Chikubushima (Chikubushima Island), which describes the moon’s reflection in Lake Biwa as a rabbit (a legendary inhabitant of the moon) running over the waves. Suō with large patterns and bright colors were used for roles of benevolent characters such as a bridegroom, daimyo, or wealthy man. As the long hakama pants are subject to intense wear, it is rare to find a complete ensemble like this one."

sometimes I wonder how the Other Side’s Tatsuya letting go of This Side’s Tatsuya’s body would affect This Side’s Tatsuya. Not just leaving holes in his memory from the time of being inhabited, but also leaving a permanent empty space in his head - somewhere where no information, no experience, can quite hold. Inexplicable déjà vu. Inexplicable inabilities to recall not only the contents of a lesson, of a day, but why he was going somewhere, doing something. Inexplicable needs to just roost at home and weep awhile, overcome with the knowledge that something is terribly wrong, that something awful has been torn out of his life, but also a total helplessness to the circumstances. Little sticky notes that gather in places Katsuya won’t see them, so he isn’t caught as a newfound sentimental amnestic. Questions for Anna Yoshizawa, startlingly vulnerable in their simplicity: Is it still Monday? Did we sit a test today? Did we order? Did we talk to that guy? How long have we been here? Not every day, but often enough that it’s clear something has been obliterated, and won’t be returning. Trying to study, to catch up on years of slacking, and finding that some information pours out of his mind, unwilling to hold, while other things lodge themselves deeply, and dislodge unexpected emotions - grief, unbearable grief, that surges when studying thermodynamics, or a sudden anger that spikes in English class. Unexpected advents of an unfamiliar feeling - as if he’s untethered, and the road is swaying, and the tarmac is stretching further and further away, draining into grey. Is this real? Is anything real? Is he real? A ghost wandering through a dream, unsure whether he ought to wake up or learn what awful thing sent him asleep?

Basically, having a substantial chunk of your memories torn out is probably going to leave behind ongoing memory problems, and having your entire existence taken over and then cloven back in two is probably going to leave you with a struggle to feel that anything is real. I suspect Tatsuya would probably develop significant dissociative symptoms in the wake of Eternal Punishment, but wouldn’t seek help for a good while, and Jun, who always prompts that uncanny sense of familiarity in him, would be there, helping him through. Not able to fix him, but helping him hold to account days that otherwise slip by.

Sakuras jealousy is a recurring issue. Once you’re his and he’s accepted that fact, he hates when anyone else gets more attention from you than he does. It makes him question everything, feels like he’s having a mid life crisis.

He sometimes get jealous of the way you interact with the other Bofurin boys as well. Is afraid you might think one of them is nicer than him, or that they could protect you better than he could. you constantly have to reassure him, which makes him feel even worse.

If he sees someone actively flirting with you right in front of him, he goes into fight or flight mode

Acts like you’re about to be murdered and his only way to save you is obnoxiously interjecting himself in the convo. “hahaha right MY PARTNER is soooo cool! you guys friends? Never heard of you before hahaha strange.” “Hey BABE, you seem to be having a lot of fun over here…WITHOUT ME.” The guy would just awkwardly walk away lol

Once he’s gone Sakura goes back to normal and tries to act like what he just did wasn’t borderline insane. “What do you mean? I was just talking to you how I always do.” Yeah suuuuure.

Just make sure he knows you love him and no one else. Appreciates when you include him in convos with strangers while you two are out, hates being left out of the loop.

Ren definitely feels like you are the light of his life, his sunshine on a cloudy day, the only pure thing about him, keeping him sane and at bay. Deep down he’s terrified that you’ll find someone more gentle than he is, someone less angry and tense all the time. So when something threatens to take you away, he gets rather aggressive

He prefers if you don’t see him that way. So anytime someone seems to be a little too flirty, or trying to get a little too close to you, he stalks his pray and waits it out. Once the interaction is over (you obviously rejected them), he’ll wait until you leave, head off to the bathroom, or just aren’t paying attention to shoot them the most devious glance imaginable.

Eyes of a killer as he bites down hard, cracking the candy in his mouth. sending them a signal of what might happen to them if they don’t back off. If you aren’t around, “you shouldn’t go for someone so far out of your league” “back off”.

Suo doesn’t tend to get jealous. He’s got you whipped (just as much as you have him) and he knows it. A confident king.

On the rare occasion he does feel threatened by another man, it’s usually by someone of his same stature, coy and nonchalant. It almost makes his blood boil to see someone teasing you the way he does just to see that cute flustered face.

Thinks its disrespectful for other men to bother you when they should already see how fruitless it is. In his head, someone like you is surely taken. (Though he still finds it hard to believe that he was the one who was able to take you)

He’s likes to let it go on for a little, wanting to see what tactics the guy might employ. He also wants to see the look on this persons face when they are inevitably rejected by you.

If they keep pestering you even after you’ve declined their advances, Suo will step in. “Hey darling, do you need my help here?” “How bold of you to assume you’d have a chance.” (He’s saying all of this with the most devious smile on his face, probably giggling too. Cheeky bastard.)

I will forever appreciate a theme in my fictional stories, & that’s exactly what Wind Breaker (by Nii Satoru) has, so, I present:

Wind Breaker characters have a theme to their names.. a thread:

Bōfūrin / 防風鈴

so, even though our protag group’s name is written and visually represented as “wind chime”, Bōfūrin’s name is where this group’s theme of trees/plants start:

防風鈴 (“prevent/protect” “wind chime”) has the same reading as 防風林, a type of forest planted strategically to prevent wind erosion of soil — much like Fūrin’s mission of protecting and serving their town

all of Bōfūrin’s named members (and close associations) so far have some element of tree/plant/wood in their last name (if you look at the kanji of their last names, you’d see a lot of wood radicals/木字旁):

桜 遥 • Sakura Haruka: 桜 / cherry tree

(fun fact: his name 遥 / haruka means "far"; also it's commonly a feminine given name)

蘇枋 隼飛 • Suō Hayato: 枋 / sandalwood (?) or tree used as timber, general term for wooden beams in houses

(fun fact: his last name 苏枋 is the Chinese name of a traditional reddish brown color, named after a pigment made from 苏木!)

楡井 秋彦 • Nirei Akihiko: 楡 / Siberian elm

杉下 京太郎 • Sugishita Kyōtarō: 杉 / Japanese cedar (cryptomeria japonica)

柊 登馬 • Hiiragi Tōma: 柊 / holly osmanthus (osmanthus heterophyllus)

Hey :) I just found your blog and I love your writing style, so I was wondering if you'd write for Windbreaker's Suo or Kaji? If yes, may I request a hurt/comfort (or angst to fluff) where the reader is in love with him (if you write for both, I'll let you choose, who you want to write for), but doesn't know he also likes her, so when she sees a girl flirting with him, she just leaves, wanting not to interrupt, before she can see he's turning the girl down. And he later comes to find her somehow? Idk, just an idea. If you don't feel like writing it, don't stress yourself out. Either way I'm looking forward to your future stories!

there’s no mistaking that suo is the kind of guy who gets flighty with everyone. layers of charm, artificial or not, built up around him to create the aura of someone utterly untouchable. unknowable.

but it was that suave charm of his that made you fall in love with him. he spoke kindly and gently to everyone, of course–but it always seemed like he saved a little bit of it for you. an extra sweet glance, a small smile, all so you could hold it to your chest. you could cradle the perfect jewel of his affection. what color would it be, you wonder.

it was the kind of love that got people to write sappy letters. you thought you might, at some point. but all the same, you were a little afraid of what he might say. would he smile at you the same way, with that same kindness and gentleness, before delivering the hard-hitting truth that he just didn’t feel the same way? what would you do then? what was there to do, if he did that? 

you could always die of a broken heart, you thought to yourself. that was always the other option.

you and suo frequently walked home together—the two of you lived relatively close, so it was no surprise. suo’s gaze was fixed up ahead, humming a soft tune. 

“suo,” you say. 

“mm? you know you can call me hayato, you know. it’s just us. i don’t mind.” suo smiles at you as he always does—quiet and patient. 

“it feels weird,” you protest. “everyone else at school just calls you suo.” 

“mm, that’s true. but i’ve trusted you with my name! it’s a big honor, you know. not everyone get that from me,” suo says, tapping his bottom lip contemplatively. “but what’s on your mind?” 

“mm.” you glance at the road, at a street cat skulking through an alleyway for a moment. “are you interested in anyone right now, suo?”

“oh-ho?” suo’s eyebrows raise, the smile on his face growing wider ever-so-slightly. “hmm… what’s got you interested in that?”

you flush, looking away.

“none—none of your business,” you mutter. 

“but it is my business!” suo crows, leaning close to you. you take a sudden step back in alarm, practically stumbling over yourself as suo catches you with lightning-fast reflexes, cradling your back in his arms. “careful now. wouldn’t want you getting hurt.” 

“…” your face feels like it’s burning. “suo, i wasn’t gonna fall that badly.” 

“just making sure,” suo says, righting you. “but like i said—it is my business, since you’re asking about my personal life.” he smiles, tapping his lower lip again. “but… to answer your question, then—no comment.” 

“what? hey!” you protest, but he laughs, putting his hands behind his head as he walks off. 

you think you get your answer, though. 

as furin’s daily patrols end, you stand at the school gate, waiting for suo to show. you wait for about fifteen minutes—and then you frown. he’s usually more punctual than this—hell, half the time he’s the one waiting for you at the gate. where could he possibly be? 

as you head back into the building to look for him, you hear—

“please go out with me!” 

your eyes widen as you peek into the heavily graffitied classroom. suo’s back was turned to you, so you couldn’t see his face, but the girl was holding out some kind of folded envelope to him, and your face flushes and your eyes feel like they’re burning too. hell, they might as well just set you on fire right now, or maybe see if self-immolation was still a thing. 

“mm…” suo’s voice lilts. you curse the man you love, for a moment—for the fact that his voice sounds sweet no matter what, that it was impossible to tell what he was thinking at any moment. “well—”

there’s roaring in your ears. 

you rush off before you can hear suo’s answer, cursing yourself the entire time.

of course you weren’t the only one that liked him—there was a myriad amount of admirers he could have. of course he wouldn’t choose you first—and your mind flickers back to the affections he gave you, the weight of his gaze and the smiles that you’d wanted to keep for yourself. 

you were so, so stupid, you think bitterly as you rush out of the school, trying desperately to hide tears that were now trickling down your face. the last thing you wanted were rumors that you were crying over suo, in any case.

why would you care if suo was dating someone else that wasn’t you? why did you care that someone confessed to him before you got to? why did you curse yourself so much for not getting there quicker? were you going to lose hi—

“wait.” 

suo’s hand clasps your wrist, and you nearly topple back into him—and then you do, losing your footing and slamming fully into his chest. he exclaims in surprise, but manages to right himself. you look up.

“what, suo? don’t you have a girl who confessed to you already?” you ask weakly.

suo’s eye widens.

“so it was you,” he says softly, a teasing smile on his face. “it’s rude to eavesdrop.”

“rude to—why aren’t you answering my question?” you ask, somehow angry for an absurd reason you can’t even fathom.

“hm? i turned her down,” suo says. “told her i’ve already got someone i’m fully interested in.”

“huh?” you blink up at him. “who—”

suo leans his head down to kiss you, interrupting your words. the kiss is soft, short, and sweet—but bears with it the same kindness, the same precious jewel of love that you wished you might be able to keep.

“it’s you,” he says as he parts from the kiss. “it’s always been you.”

and as you blink up at him, you think the tears start falling. suo laughs fondly.

“i thought i was obvious about it,” suo says. “i let you call me by my first name and everything.”

“you weren’t obvious enough,” you protest.

“hmm. that’s my bad, then,” suo says softly, leaning down to kiss you again—on your forehead, and then on your nose, and then on your lips again, short and sweet. “i’ll make it up to you. go out with me?”

you look up at him.

the jewel of suo’s affection was bright red, you decided. and it was yours, now, sitting in the palm of your hand.

“of course,” you say.

and suo smiles, pulling you close to his chest.
