SUMMA CUM LAUDE? #5
In the spirit of rushing pre-corona, I’m here for #5 after being dealt with by Boolean Algebra. So many students are clamouring for resumption, my gosh. I need September at least.
Today’s post is about my worst part of this first year so far. It’s not the hot classes or the workload, it’s “Squatting”.
I became a squatter in my third week, and the whole experience has been absolutely trashy and we’ll see how this affected my way of living on campus {I’ll post pictures of the room by the way.} It’s a 6-man room with about 20 regulars and 26-28 occupants occasionally. That’s ridiculous isn’t it? It gets worse. There are two people concerned about the cleanness of that tiny room: me and the guy I share a mat with. I Just realised I was about to start dissing my roommates haha. They were not doing a good job keeping the room as comfortable as possible especially since the overcrowding was already an issue. I had to sweep around my mat space so I could even place it on the ground (I has a duvet to cushion it).
The sleeping experience sucked, very limited space with short hours of sleep. The room was dirty. The scene outside the room was also dirty. Everywhere inside of Jaja Hall stinks because students urinate anywhere and everywhere. I always walk under the sheds because I don’t want someone spitting on me. It’s obviously crazy hot when there’s no power in the school. There was actually a time they took light around 1am and a Concert happened, it was funny and I enjoyed that. I had to wake up really early everyday (reason I had nothing against the “wake up! wake up! wake up! It’s time for morning devotion” guy) to take my bath and it involved fetching water from downstairs to upstairs. The one time I woke up at 6am, I was late for class because of the queue for fetching water. It still gets worse.
The Toilet.
This is the worst thing about my experience so far, believe it or not. The toilets inside of Jaja is satanic, evil, wicked. It’s unusable. A disgrace to the Nation’s pride — there’s this excuse about not fixing things up due to the destructive nature of students and I understand that but it’s not a good of enough reason in my opinion. The toilet situation, and not how much energy I require, is the main factor for how much I eat in a day. I try to maintain two egestions a week. I found a public toilet at CITS where I pay 50 Naira to use the toilet and this has been my greatest asset in the University. It’s such an important place to me, I can’t afford to put myself in a situation where the toilet at Jaja is my only hope. It will be terrible. Also, students truly are destructive.
In order to survive as a Squatter who is so uncomfortable in his small space, I stay at my Faculty till 11pm everyday. At 11pm, it’s more of preparing to step out at 7am than returning to the hostel to get rest. I usually sleep from 12am to 4am or 5am if I’m really tired. Very unhealthy but I didn’t have much of a choice (I’ll explain this in #6). If you’re wondering why I don’t want to go back to school, this is it. The day to day living is whack and I hate all of it.
I don’t think I need to say more. Accommodation is an area that Unilag has done poorly in as of today August 20, 2020 when this was completed and posted. And it’s such an important aspect of an undergraduates journey. I’ll leave you with pictures and videos. The video was for the Concert but it’s not the best recording. I’ll put them up in two special posts “#5V.1 and #5V.2″.
Thanks for reading. Peace dudes!!!

Sean Tizzle Covers The New Edition Of Acada Magazine

The Nigeria music industry should be prepared for what seem like one of the biggest comebacks in history. With Uber-talented pop star - Sean Tizzle ticking all the boxes and gradually easing back into spotlight. From a very successful sold out appreciation concert for his fans at The New Afrika Shrine boasting of some of the finest industry players in attendance. His recent Single "LOTTO" is currently dominating the airwaves, he is also set to release a befitting visual to it this week. Everything seems to be pointing towards the right direction for Sean Tizzle since he resurfaced few months ago after going on hiatus. Arguably with one of the biggest Albums of the last decade, and with over 15 hit singles to his credit, it’s safe to call his comeback a return from sabbatical, when asked about his more than a year absence from the industry, he said it's not completely true. He spent part of the time touring in the US while also working with some creative people which US based Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer, Tory Lanez happens to be one of them and a lot yet to be unveil. Moreover, change of environment is needed sometimes to clear the head and further hone one's skills.

His fans should also be expecting a body of work which we are privileged to listen to, we can assure you it’s a material that can stand at par with the JOURNEY Album. Also, on the cover of Acada Extra is Naira Marley who is currently in a case with the EFCC and been remanded at the prison pending the next hearing of the case. In the US, Nigerian-born student, Tobechukwu Philips smashed 125-year academic record of her high school by having straight As all through her stay and eventually graduating with a 6.9 CGPA while being the first black valedictorian. Meanwhile Unilag Student, Funke Ademola-Aliu also wins gold at Future Creative Leaders Academy. The program which is designed to test students’ general understanding of advertising has been on since 2008. And courtesy of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, Funke is expected to attend the Rogal Hatchuel Academy in Cannes, France in June. Read the full article
