Never have I read something as open and honest about race and identity in America. Especially doing so both explicitly and implicitly through the vehicle of a family and their adopted Ethiopian 4 year old. That's actually what attracted me to the book in the first place, other than the intriguing cover, as an aspiring adopter but I didn't expect the honesty on a cultural level that this book's author speaks on. Using all of the necessary elements // history, fiction, present day socio/economical realities and magical realism // Steven Erickson engages you as a human on a journey you could not expect but wish you were a part of. Can't recommend this book enough, especially to those who have a keen interest in this "mixtape" we call America. #mybookreviewsandshit #stevenerickson #thesedreamsofyou
