The thing about malazan apparently being the most difficult series ever is that. while yeah I can't deny that many things fly over my head and / or confuse me especially this first time through, in some ways these books are also weirdly easy to read?

I can just sit down to read for a bit and keep going and going and suddenly it's 2 am and I still haven't gotten tired or brain-jumbled or anything. Like, they're strangely binge-able for such long, complex, mostly slower paced and often really dark and depressing books.

I guess the best thing I can come up with is that they're fairly easy to read - less easy to fully understand. But imo you don't need to understand everything to enjoy the story. Tbf I. kinda like being really confused for the first half of a book tho, so maybe that's just a personal preference. On the other hand, there's also no other series that makes me feel as stupid as this one, mostly for being able to catch hints / foreshadowing, but often not being able to figure out what they actually mean lmfao
