Drift didn’t think he’d see Crosshairs still asleep at eight in the morning. Crosshairs consistently exercises at six AM while Drift opted for a rest day. He also notices the extra blankets layered on Crosshairs. Drift knows fifty degrees is a little cold but not cold enough to require two extra blankets on top of the winter blanket Crosshairs already has on his bed. Drift goes to take a shower.

Crosshairs is awake when Drift walks out of the bathroom. He waits on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, for Drift to finish in the bathroom. “You feeling ok?” “I’m cold.” Drift retrieves the thermometer from his subspace, relieved he didn’t return it to his first aid kit capsule. “You have a low-grade fever.” Crosshairs groans, displeased. He reluctantly agrees to go back to bed, knowing he’s unwell and unable to argue with Drift’s instructions. He goes to the bathroom as intended, takes cold medicine, and returns to bed. For once, Crosshairs wants tea. He doesn’t hate the drink but prefers coffee. Drift tells him he’ll make eggs and toast for breakfast, laughing at Crosshairs’ dismay at Drift telling him no bacon.

Crosshairs is still awake when Drift returns with breakfast. He feels up to eating and hopes the tea will help warm him. “What are we doing about Jamie?” Crosshairs asks. “I can see if Sideswipe wants to play video games with her, but since he has brought his PlayStation Five here a few times, she’ll insist that he does that today. I’m concerned about her possibly worrying about you.” “That’s concerning. She is familiar with the extent of our medical training. Although our skills are not as extensive as the medics below, they are sufficient to decide if we need to go to the medbay." “She won’t argue if we tell her to leave the room, but she’ll be fine playing video games with Sideswipe on the couch.” Crosshairs eats the bowl of scrambled eggs and one piece of toast with butter before returning to bed. He drinks the hot tea, feeling the hot liquid help warm him.

Crosshairs is asleep when Jamie wakes up. Drift tells her that Crosshairs is sick with a cold. He shows her the breakfast he made her which was covered to keep the food warm and takes out the stainless steel travel mug full of coffee from his subspace. Jamie sits on the couch, watching TV while eating. Drift texts the twins about Crosshairs being sick and asks Sideswipe if he wants to play video games with Jamie. Sunstreaker adds that he’ll attempt to get Jamie to work on a painting with him. Drift wants to keep Jamie busy and hopefully not worrying about Crosshairs. He is concerned that she is worrying about Crosshairs.

Sideswipe comes by with his PlayStation Five to play video games with Jamie. The brothers see how concerned Jamie is. “I think you should tell Rung,” Sunstreaker whispers, “that’s not good that she’s worried this much.” “I don’t know. What’s he going to do?” “You’re right,” Sunstreaker sighs, “I’ll stay here with them. Make the soup you make when Jamie is unwell. Drift nods in agreement. He puts his boots on, grabs his phone, and leaves the room. Sunstreaker sits on the couch. Jamie is between the two brothers. Sunstreaker suspects Jamie and Sideswipe will play video games for hours.

Crosshairs is up three hours later. His phone tells him it’s eleven-fifteen. He knew Sideswipe would play games with Jamie, but he didn’t think Sunstreaker would stay with them. Crosshairs sits at the desk, watching the two play a racing game. He assumes Drift will be here with lunch soon. Sunstreaker acknowledges Crosshairs is awake. He knows Crosshairs took cold medicine and is feeling well for now.

Drift returns with a cart. On the cart is the tall stock pot of soup with five bowls stacked, five spoons, and a ladle. There’s also a box of saltines. Drift smiles, seeing Crosshairs is awake and eyeing the pot of soup. Jamie sees Crosshairs sitting at the desk and stands up to go to him. Drift gestures to the twins to let her. Crosshairs hugs Jamie. “I’m fine, it’s a cold. You know Ratchet programmed our holoforms to get sick like humans.” “Unfortunately,” Sideswipe complains but smiles, hearing Jamie laugh. Drift gets bowls of soup for everyone and himself. He sits on the coffee table and Crosshairs moves the desk chair closer. While eating, Sunstreaker talks about doing a painting with Jamie. The four mechs worry about Jamie’s hesitation. Crosshairs convinces Jamie by expressing his desire to have a painting on the wall beside his bed. This isn’t a lie. Crosshairs loves the paintings Jamie does with Sunstreaker.

“We must inform Rung,” Crosshairs says to Drift after the others leave, “he may not be much help, but surely he can do something.” “No, there isn’t,” Drift says while putting the dishes on the cart, “her fear of losing us is in overdrive. We’ve been telling her you’ll be fine,” once the last bowl is in the cart, Crosshairs hugs Drift, “her mental health is getting worse. I’m unsure of our next move. I’m so tired of only protecting and caring for her.” Drift leaves the room with the cart. Crosshairs grabs his blanket from his bed to lie on the couch and watch TV. He’s troubled by Jamie’s being in overdrive. Questioning if she had a nightmare, but it wasn’t as terrifying as usual. Crosshairs knows he should rest rather than worry about Jamie. He regrets not having Jamie and Sideswipe stay in the room and continue to play video games. Then he could help her relax. Crosshairs turns on the TV.

As Crosshairs watches TV, he feels the evidence that the medicine is wearing off. Before he feels unwell to get off the couch, Crosshairs gets the box of tissues from the bathroom, the trash bin beside the door, and his water bottle from his nightstand. He lies back on the couch.

It’s not long before Crosshairs is dealing with cold symptoms. One sneeze caused a runny nose and coughing starts. Crosshairs is annoyed but avoids additional medication. He will take more tonight to sleep. Drift walks into the room, hearing Crosshairs cough and sneeze. “Unbelievable,” Crosshairs complains, “I know I’m doing this to myself, but I’m holding off on more medicine until tonight.” “Let me see if we have cough drops, then I’ll make you more tea.”

Drift finds cough drops in a drawer in the bathroom. Crosshairs thanks Drift as Drift hands him the small package of cherry-flavored Halls, but tells Drift he’ll wait until he finishes the tea. Uncertain if the cough drops will make the tea taste nasty.

Tea soothes Crosshairs’ throat, and the honey added helps with the cough. Crosshairs returns to bed, seeking sleep once more.

As soon as Crosshairs is comfortable, he feels like he’s going to throw up. He rushes to the toilet. Once done throwing up, Crosshairs sits on the couch. While Drift believes the coughing resulted in throwing up, he checks Crosshairs’ temperature. He is concerned about this being the flu instead. “Still a low-grade fever. I think the nasty cold bugs have been hitting us.” Crosshairs takes the small trash bin to place by his bed and goes back to bed. Drift puts the box of tissues and stainless steel mug of tea on the nightstand. Sitting on the couch, Drift struggles to disregard Jamie’s overly worried attitude towards Crosshairs’ sickness.

After an hour, Crosshairs awakens because of a cough. “Oh frag it,” he sits on the couch beside Drift, “you don’t have to stay here,” he realizes something distracts Drift, “Drift?” “I hate how worried Jamie is.” “She wasn’t when you were sick. She wasn’t pleased at having to stay away from you. You were worried more than her.” “You’re — scrap, that’s it. She had a nightmare about something happening to you. She finds out you’re sick the next morning. Kicking her fear into overdrive even as she’s told it’s a cold.” “Rung cannot do anything, but his awareness and documentation are important. You know he wants to keep track of things like this.” “I know, I hate telling him because he feels guilty for not knowing how to help Jamie.” Drift leaves the room. Crosshairs watches TV, troubled by Jamie’s nightmare and worried she stayed up for hours before falling asleep, and didn’t want to disturb him or Drift. Okay, I'm going to hop in on this because I work in compliance for a drinkware company.

To be sold in retail in the United States*, drinkware must adhere to FDA standards to have non detectable limits of Lead and Cadmium. This means, any part of the piece that a person can reasonably be in contact with must not have detectable limits of Lead or Cadmium.

Lead can be used in the manufacturing process to seal the vacuum between the two layers of stainless steel. All tumblers/bottles that can keep your drinks cold or hot are double wall vacuum sealed. Stanley, Hydroflask, Yeti, Bubba, all of them.

The vacuum seal is then covered. You cannot get to it unless you are actually trying to and know where it is. The seal is Not Inside the bottle/mug, so in the event that somehow the seal is scratched, there's no way it can even get to your drink. The most that will happen is the seal will break and your tumbler won't be as effective in keeping your drink cold/hot.

Unless you are licking every single part of your bottle after practically destroying it, there is no risk of lead contamination.

Your fancy drinkware, while over priced, is perfectly safe. This is one of those articles meant to stir the pot.

If you are nervous, just check to see if the piece has FDA/Prop 65 testing. For our European friends, that's the equivalent of REACH.
