I forgot to put this in the ask but apparently, at the cremation of percy shelley, his friend lord byron complimented him and then poked his non-burning heart with a stick in an attempt to get it to ignite before someone else stepped in and fished it out of the fire
#technically; though he died a year earlier; keats was there in spirit; as shelley was carrying a book of his poetry in his breast pocket#anyway so after almost dying of fucking malnutrition in a brothel or something lord byron ultimately outlived his other two amigos#the compliment was something like; 'i have never met a man that was not a beast compared to shelley'#i forget who was whom; but between keats and shelley; one of them went and fished him out of the brothel and the other was quoted as#'perhaps you should have left him there????'#and after that mister mad bad and dangerous to know survived to be like...... 36#he was funding a war in greece or something but he contracted some kind of fucking infection and he died of a fever? i think#keats died of tuberculosis or something which ran in his family; whatever it was he watched his mom and brother die of it first#fun fact he was a doctor; so he knew exactly what was happening to him c:#rather ironically; had he been alive at the time; he might have been able to suggest why the heart wasn't burning#fun fact friend#anyway i don't know how much of this is ~legend~ vs documented fact so#i just repeat funny stories i'm told#squak; don't forget dl-6!#also just for reference Keats died at 27; Shelley died a year later just before his 30th; and two years after that; byron at 36
