Their search for answers and a way out takes them all the way to New Orleans, and Caroline could never anticipate how much this crazy fake world was about to alter her reality forever.

His eyebrows twitch up when he finally turns around to face her, lips curling into an amused grin. "Tyler's girl," he states, gesturing towards the now empty yard. "You missed out on the celebrations, I’m afraid."

Feel the Madness Closing In Set in TO S3. Caroline is in New Orleans when Lucien and the Ancestors make a move against the Mikaelson family - and they know exactly who to target in order to get to Klaus. Paranoia sets in, sending him to a very dark place, and Caroline finally learns the price of being loved so profoundly by a monster. . Issues When Klaus' Hollywood career takes a down turn after a nasty divorce and a viral mug shot, his manager decides his life is not yet miserable enough, bringing in a PR company famous for its high-profile damage control cases.

Chapter 02

“Uh, stupid question.” He awkwardly chuckled, rubbing over the back of his neck as he stepped back to let you in his house.

“How fancy should I be going? These are my nicest jeans I have on, I have some button downs and flannels in the closet. Or I have the makings of a suit somewhere, I'd need a few minutes to find it though.” The anxiety clear in his tone, his rambling getting softer as he trailed off. Ending with a panicked smile.

“Depends on what you're thinking for food. Unless you want to find one of the fancier restaurants, what you have on now is fine. I like it.” You shrugged, guesting toward the retro Nintendo shirt he wore.

“Ohthankgod.” He breathed, chuckling as he grabbed his wallet and keys. Telling you that he was driving since you insisted on paying. Quickly locking his front door, and grabbing his sneakers he led you to his garage.

Sharpie marked boxes lined one wall, flattened cardboard stacked neatly in another corner. Allen was busy these last few days.

Sliding into the passenger seat of his Jeep, you watched as he started the vehicle and opened the large door behind you. Then turning his attention to the screen inbetween you, opening Google Maps. Holding back a soft laugh, you lightly placed your hand over his. Flinching softly as he pulled back, looking at you confused.

“I have no idea where I'm going. I barely made it to the grocery store earlier.” He admitted, cheeks flushing as he busied himself with adjusting the fan speed.

“I do?” You offered with a shrug, playfully glaring when he laughed. “What?”

“You also strike me as someone who would tell me about the turn I missed 3 blocks after I missed it.” He pulled back as you lightly smacked his shoulder, feigning offense.

Looking out the passenger window as he reversed you mumbled. “You're not wrong, but that isn't the point. Now what do you feel like having tonight?”

“Food.” He answered bluntly, turning out of the neighborhood. Ignoring your faux annoyed expression. “What do you recommend? Nothing too fancy, neither of us are dressed for the occasion and that would feel too much like a date.”

“Agreed! There's a cute coffee shop on main street with pastries and drinks. Or a little ma and pa place.” You shrugged, watching as he nodded. Gaze set to the road in front of him.

“I like ma and pa restaurants, and I am an enjoyer of caffeine.” He offered, sparing a glance in your direction. “Just like you're an enjoyer of staring into people's windows at night.”

You felt your heart sink as he chuckled. All week you thought you were off the hook.

“For starters, shut your curtains. Anyone could be watching! Secondly, that was my idiot best friend, I was in my kitchen minding my own business.” You defended, sinking lower into your seat as you watched the scenery pass by.

“Not the most compelling argument, but did your friend enjoy their view at least?” He asked, volume dropping toward the end of his sentence. Your cheeks burning as you desperately tried to formulate a response.

“They did. And I know this sounds like asking for a friend. But it genuinely was not me, I promise.” You laughed, relief flooding your system when he joined. Running a hand through his hair as he shook his head playfully.

“It totally sounded that way.” He laughed, pulling into a parking lot and shifting the vehicle into park. His full attention now on you. “I'm normally pretty good at remembering those things, the curtains and privacy I mean. I’'m not a total playboy, fuckboy, whatever kids these days call them. I prefer an emotional connection before I dive into a physical one.”

You were in awe at his honesty, how his values aligned with yours in a world where…..you were in a grocery store parking lot?

“Allen. Where are we?” You asked, leaning down to scan your full surroundings through the windshield as he stated your name in the same tone.

“I told you, I don't know my way around except to the grocery store. And someone, you, said don't worry about Google Maps. I'll tell you where to go!” He mimicked you, fingers wiggling as he spoke.

Scoffing, you smiled at him. “I sound nothing like that!”

Mimicking you again, he laughed. “Last time you said I was wrong about you; I was right. You suck at directions.” He gave you a cocky smirk before leaving the vehicle. Locking the doors as he wandered into the store.

“Excuse me, why are we here?” You laughed, jogging up behind Allen as he scanned the isles. Basket hanging in the crook of his elbow as he shopped.

“Excuse you, why didn't you give me any directions.” He teased, pulling food items out of a cooler. “Since you failed your job, and left me to my own sad devices. I'm making supper.”

“Well, then I'm paying. And buying us drinks before we head home.” You stated firmly, trying to peek into his basket. Which seemed to always be pulled away from your view.

Glancing over at you, basket pressed against his opposite hip Allen chuckled. “Supper is now a surprise, and we'll see about drinks. My standards for the night have changed considerably.”

“So, what type of caffeine do you enjoy?” You asked, scanning over the menu. Despite already knowing what you would order.

You felt the man beside you shrug and ask for recommendations. Clearly overwhelmed by the options laid out for him. 

Taking charge, you smiled at the barista and ordered 2 of your usual drink. Eyebrows raising when you heard him ask for a croissant to be added to the order.

“We're literally going home to have supper.” You mumbled in awe, paying for the order as the barista smiled politely at the two of you.

“I'm literally starving and want a snack for when you forget to give me directions and we end up hopelessly lost and in the woods. Are there woods around here? Probably.” He defended, eyes lighting up when the small parchment bag was handed to him.

Handing you the receipt, the barista laughed softly. “You two are adorable, literal relationship goals.”

Before either of you could correct her, she busied herself with making your drinks. Leaving the two of you standing in awe.

“We don't give off that vibe, we met last week and hit it off as best friends. This is casual best friend banter.” You whispered, understanding the mistake -- yet feeling like you had to defend yourself to the man beside you.

The man who was already eating his croissant and shrugging at you. Mumbling something along the lines of “is it the worst thing though?”

Staring at him with an exasperated look he held his free hand up at you in surrender. Moving it to pat his stomach, signaling again that he was literally starving.

You returned to London with no problems.

Well, maybe two.

Marc and Steven.

Maybe Layla, but she didn’t return to London with Marc after the entire fiasco in Egypt.

It was cruel to make Steven and Marc think that you remained dead after releasing Bakunawa.

But it would be even crueler to bring them back into your world after they’ve been set free by Khonshu.

Still thinking about that twerp?

You rolled your eyes as the snake tattoo slithered around your hand while you raised your paintbrush to the easel.

It’s surprising how they didn’t even try to stop by in your workplace.

While Sidapa still had his glum demeanor, he definitely started picking up Bakunawa’s habit on being a pain in your ass.

We heard that.

“You were meant to.”

“What was that, dear?” your mentor called out from his desk.

“Nothing.”

“You should go get some rest. It’s quite late.”

You didn’t argue and began packing up.

Luckily you lived close to your work place. Just a half-hour walk.

But suddenly… you felt the scales under your skin out of instinct.

You looked up to the tops of one of London’s old buildings.

Nothing. Just the glow of the full moon.

A deep sigh left you at the sentimental sight.

For the rest of your walk, you refused to look at the sky.

 ...

Jake didn’t know why Khonshu wanted him to watch over you.

There were more better ways of him spending time while he was in control of his body.

Like finding where Harrow is for starters.

It wouldn’t be that hard to find the cultist harboring an equally murderous god in him if it was that easy to find you.

Jake tugged his cap lower to avoid the cameras as he snuck in the apartment building entrance before the door locked.

13th floor, Jake noted as he watched the lift stopped. He waited a beat before calling down the lift back down to follow you.

As the lift doors open…

“Oh, hi, Marc.”

Jake froze at the sight of you still in the lift, now smiling at him like catching his hand in the cookie jar.

Now, he was sitting in your living room with a good cup of joe with you in the loveseat across from him.

Where the hell was Khonshu?!

“How long have you been following me?”

“Two days.”

Damn it, why was he being honest?

“It’s good to see you.”

Jake swallowed heavily and kept his head down, hiding his eyes under his cap.

Probably not that honest.

“Did Steven tell you where to find me? Or was it Layla?”

Jake winced again.

While it was Marc who handed the divorce papers before all this happened, but now…

Layla did. All signed and delivered.

She wanted to stay in areas closer to Egypt, and Marc desperately wanted the freedom he’d been asking for since the beginning of being Khonshu’s slave.

It was a quick and easy process, and Marc barely put up a fight when the papers arrived.

It would’ve probably been different if Steven was around.

But Steven…

Steven hasn’t fronted since Cairo… wouldn’t even talk to Marc.

During the aftermath of the battle and Ammit was defeated, Steven just… faded away.

He was still in there but in a deep sleep.

If he only knew that Khonshu still had a hold of their body, Steven would know you were still alive.

But Jake wanted to keep you as his alone for a little while longer.

…

You watched Marc’s silent demeanor very carefully.

You expected him to be angry… or to at least be sarcastic with you.

Actually, you expected Steven to be the one to find you first.

You weren’t exactly hiding in the first place.

Something wasn’t quite right.

“Marc, why did you come looking for me?”

Finally… Khonshu appeared.

I need you to find Arthur Harrow for us.

Without hesitation, your scaled, armored claw had the stranger in a chokehold.

“Who the fuck are you?”

gotta catch em all: persona 5 edition!

full disclosure, this au started as a joke.

so for the last two-three-ish weeks i've been playing with the idea of a pokemon au for the p5 cast, it's been living in my head rent free, and it's been developing with a speed i definitely was not expecting but am not about to question, and there is definitely an impending fic in the making. so i decided i'd try something new where i actually introduce an au on here before i start posting the fic itself to my ao3 and yes this is partially because my co-developer-slash-beta-reader-slash-best-friend has art pending for this. just gonna do brief introductions (as brief as i can manage anyways; proper character introductions are coming soon!) so without further ado, here we go :D

setup: this is obviously set in the world of pokemon; however it is not set in any particular region. this is partly because i wanted to keep my options open when selecting pokemon for the main cast. in addition, the main cast have been aged up to college age, with the pts in the 20-23 range (as of right now akira will be 22 and the rest will be adjusted around that). pokemon journeys begin around 17 or 18 and there's not as much pressure to start a journey as soon as you're old enough, which is why akira is only just starting his. non-thief confidants will be making appearances, though most will be only minor. also, morgana is not a pokemon - he is still a cat, and he can still talk. this will be explained much much later. for now here's the main cast:

akira: the one on a journey! he lives with sojiro, who runs a pokemon cafe in a small town, and futaba, his little sister in all but blood. he likes to run a mixed-type team and calls home often

ryuji: trainer who specializes in electric types! he was supposed to start his journey right at eighteen but wasn't able to due to his leg injury. he grew up with his yamper, which evolved into a boltund a few months into ryuji's recovery; the boltund is his best friend

ann: fierce fire type trainer who loves to travel! she's in a long distance relationship with shiho, who lives in a neighboring city. her starter pokemon was fennekin, which sparked her love for fire types; she's very protective of all her pokemon

yusuke: ice type trainer whose real passion isn't pokemon battles but pokemon art! he has a goal to paint every pokemon, and he's slowly working his way through every one he can find, starting with his beloved frosmoth. but he can't explore the world just yet....

makoto: the youngest steel type gym leader in her city's history! at only twenty, she was able to beat out several older candidates for the position of gym leader through her sheer skill and her coordination with her pokemon. her skarmory is a force to be feared

futaba: a young intern whose mother was a pokemon researcher! she mainly works remotely from her dad's cafe, but she's dead set on someday being able to visit her mother's lab. she's great with pokemon, with her umbreon providing comfort from darkness

sumire: the trainer with an uncertain path! her sister once ran a grass-type gym in their city, but she's been in a coma for months. she's not sure how to move forward. fortunately for her, mimikyu found her at her lowest and could help her choose a future....

i'm really looking forward to posting this au, both in the form of actual fic on ao3 and fleshing out the details here on tumblr! i've got big plans for the story, which is shocking for someone who struggles with plot so often, so i think this'll be a fun experience. can't wait to share more :3

oh Shit it is august huh. oh goddamn what the fuck. um. i’ve been mia for a while as i try to refill my brain ideas tank and i finally have a Thing

so for context: for some reason i have this reoccurring nightmare about a zombie apocalypse not sure why. could be bc of my very old anxiety about zombies but who knows. so my first thought was obviously “how do i connect this to sagau” and here is how i connected it. i’m connecting the dots.

SO for starters. you’re probably immune to the virus bc of your divinity, but zombies are still assholes who will try to get your blood outside of your body for regular zombie reasons. okay now that’s out of the way, my first thought was “oh imposter au where reader is honestly fine with this bc yeah you’re being hunted down but at least you’re being hunted down by people” BUT THEN. i had another thought called “reverse isekai au where suddenly there’s real actual stakes for if the people back on teyvat can’t get their wayward acolyte and you back home in time”

i’ll elaborate more later bc i am trying to space out my thoughts. let them marinate a little y’know (also good luck with school everyone! let’s see stay in school don’t do drugs always bring two extra pencils to class don’t use ai to write your essays trust me if your schedule leaves you with a free period either have it in place of your first class so you can arrive late or your last class so you can leave early. some wisdom from yours truly) - teddy anon

now, the standard isekai is fine if a bit plain, but the reverse…

they’d all be horrified off rip, really. at first they think it’s just “disease that makes ppl go rabid” and maybe you have a bite on your arm or something you’re mid-treatment for that corroborates this. and then maybe they take you out for a supply run or something and see someone get turned, and that’s when the true Terror of the situation sets in.

could they be infected? what if it was brought back to teyvat? could it be cured? how? what if there was no cure? what if your entire world collapsed? oh, they had to bring you back to teyvat now, and thank goodness they came when they did! what if they were a few months too late and you’d died under the strain?

i don’t know much about the biology of zombies, but i imagine their mouths are even more full of bacteria than humans’, and more dangerous. even if you aren’t given the zombie virus, there’s still worry of infection, so they’ll stress about that the literal entire time (you’ve never gotten seriously sick, but they insist). depending on the flavor of zombie you have—speed, intelligence, activity during daytime, all those details—it could be easy to grab whatever they need to make the portal back, or take a solid few months. i imagine they’d expect elemental energy to be abundant in our world, which is correct, but depending on their vision “anemo-blessed leaves” and “pyro-infused stones” could be hard to find.

oh, and watch out for them too. the last thing you’d want is for them to bring the virus back to teyvat.

"So really, who's surprised we have all this unexpressed rage?" Tonight's patrol expanded into the lot of an old building. Buffy punched the vampire and then followed it up with a kick in the stomach. "But, honestly, I think I'm expressing mine better," she said. The vampire growled and tried to tackle her again, but he missed and she jumped on his back."Tell you what," she said. "You find yourself a good anger management class...." The vampire threw her off, but she found her footing and slammed him up against the fence around the lot. The biker vampire took another swing at her, but she punched him sending him staggering backwards against the fence. "And I'll jam this pokey wood stick through your heart," she finished. Before the vampire could react, Buffy staked him and he exploded into dust. "I think that sets the world speed record for closure," she mumbled as she put her stake away.

"Hey, miss!" Buffy heard behind her. Startled, she turned around and came face-to-face with a security guard. She immediately tensed up. How much had he seen? "If you're looking for one of those rave parties, I'm afraid you're late," he said. "Chased a bunch of kids out of here last night." She was relieved. Better he thought she was a raver than know the truth, whatever the hell a rave party was. "Oh, right," she said, unsure of what to say. "Darn. My fellow ravers will be so disappointed. Through the Breach: Character Creation

I was tempted to go into the setting of the world of Malifaux, the perfect marriage of gothic horror, weird west, and steampunk aesthetics. But I'm a mechanics person. The coolest setting in the world isn't going to sell me on a TTRPG unless I also like the gameplay. To give a glimpse into those mechanics, I want to talk about character creation basics.

Every character in Through the Breach starts as a tarot spread. Since TtB is a card-based game, playing cards are used to generate the random numbers that make up player stats. The core rulebook uses a tarot spread called The Cross Roads tarot, but every expansion book, of which there are currently six, has a new method to generate a character. For simplicity, I'm going to speak to only the core book method.

With all character creation, it's good to start with a vague idea of what character you want to make. Are they smart? Strong? Charming? You can also start with a character pursuit (kind of like a d&d class, but far less restrictive) and work backwards. Or you can just start flipping cards.

The first card you flip is the station card, what life you are born into, what your parents were like. There's 54 possible stations, from simple (soldier, blacksmith, accountant) to interesting (grave robber, convict, mad scientist), and a few just weird (bayou born, neverborn stolen, undead). Each station gives you a bit of starter lore as well as one rank in a skill.

The next four cards you flip are the numbers that contribute to your character. Flip 2 gives your physical stats. Flip 4 gives your mental stats. Flip 3 and 5 give you skill ranks.

The physical and mental stats are called aspects, most similar to attributes in D&D. The physical aspects are Might, Grace, Speed, and Resilience. Mental aspects are Charm, Cunning, Intellect, and Tenacity. Each card flip gives you an array of four numbers, and you assign one number to each aspect. If you flip an 8 of hearts, for example, you'll get -2/-1/+1/+2. If you want a tankier build, you might distribute those numbers accordingly: (Might +2, Grace -1, Speed -2, Resilience +1). Negative numbers might take some adjustment, but if you think of zero as average, it could ease the stress. The lowest an aspect can be is -3. Except for the black joker, the highest an aspect can be at character creation is +3. The maximum for an aspect at any point of the game is +5.

The skill ranks are divided between two card flips. The first flip are your root skills, representative of how you were raised, things you learned growing up. The second flip are endeavour skills, ones you chose to pursue as an adult. I have never bothered to force players to approach skill point distribution in this manner, but that is how the game describes it. The card flip does not give points, but ranks. An ace of hearts gives 3, 3, 2, 1, while six of spades gives 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1. These numbers are assigned directly to the skills. And TtB has over 50 skills, lots to choose from. If our tanky character got the ace of hearts, they might want Toughnes 3, Melee 3, Athletics 2 for starters. Depending on what mental aspects are high, Leadership or Literacy might be important, or Notice or Stealth. The skill lists are also broken down into categories such as close and ranged combat, academic and social skills, magic skills, and more. There are also skill triggers--more on that in another post.

Once your skills and aspects are selected, you get two build points to customize your character. Each point is +1 to an aspect (still not exceeding the max of 3) or two ranks in a skill.

Again, this post has gotten very long. There are 6 more steps in character creation, and most of these are going to (yes again) be stand-alone blog posts. The tarot card flips also correspond to short phrases, which together make up the character's Destiny. Those fate steps are plot hooks that aid in character advancement. The players pick a starting pursuit, similar to character class, and there are 14 basic pursuits in the core book. Each expansion ads a handful more, though they are occasionally specific to the expansion. Derived aspects are things like initiative, movement speed, wounds (health), and defense. Your character starts with one talent (like a d&d feat, but you gain them after every session!) and money to purchase gear. Finally, you build a twist deck, which lets you cheat fate. Lots more on that too.

Wait also kinda unrelated but pursuit got me thinking…so it’s set in kalos right…do you remember that one plot involving the zygarde zygotes (idr what they’re actually called) but iirc in the show too the gang carries around one of the zygotes only later it’s revealed that they come together to form zygarde imagine otoya picks one up eventually and hes like great another weird looking small cute useless thing until one day it turns into a zygarde and he finally gets his badass pokemon moment (idk if we’re keeping this game or show consistent so even if he doesn’t catch zygarde he’ll still get to battle alongside it maybe or sth)

i’ve considered adding legendaries into pursuit especially because xerneas is one of my fav legendaries but for some reason i feel like it takes away from the feel of the verse?? it’s meant to be a bit of a different look at the pokémon world while not getting too crazily violent like some au’s do and since the legendaries are meant to be gods i think that IF they appear it’ll be very awe inspiring and terrifying…lowkey otoya does kinda look like zygarde if i was assigning legendaries he’d def have zygarde, nagi would have mew, karasu would have zekrom, reo would have suicune, chigiri would have zapdos, tullia would have cresselia, reader would have rayquaza (just based on her team’s vibes…going off of hers alone she’d probably have like diancie or shaymin or smth)

FJFJSJSJ YES I HAVE A KEYBOARD CASE i do have a laptop as well but it’s windows since most programs run better on windows and i write on apple pages so i can also write on my phone in a pinch which is why i have to use my ipad!! i used to use my laptop and google docs but in 2021ish i got my ipad w the keyboard case because it’s easier to carry around and fit into bags than a whole laptop…google docs is kinda glitchy and crashes a lot (there’s also a lot of ai rumors w them but idk how true those are so they didn’t impact my decision) especially once documents get longer and you know how much i write (i had to split pomegranate ink into three separate google docs) so i switched to pages in 2023!! i actually really like it much more than google docs i’d say…the customization options are much more fun and accessible and it runs way nicer without freaking out. but it does mean i can’t use my laptop to write sadly 😓💔 for a month my laptop was getting repaired so i had to borrow my uncle’s which is a macbook and it was SO NICE being able to write on my phone, laptop, or ipad as i chose but sadly all good things come to an end and now i’m back to my ipad and phone alone (i love my ipad though it’s super fun and functional that’s also where all of my silly diagrams are sketched out and notes are scribbled before outlines get upgraded to notion so it is nice having everything on one device for sure!!)
