those are good interesting points about the wardens as an organization. i guess i didn’t think of that because afair the game said that the warden-commanders of each nation were pretty autonomous since the only higher up they reported to was the first warden, and he was generally concerned with anderfels politics. and it seemed like the warden was pretty competent so why interfere? though that’s right he did care about the hof succeeding at commanding an arling for the wardens. he only sent someone to look after the finances and trade though, right..? i am hardly a lore buff i haven’t read any of the other books or short stores for DA or anything, I’m going off of memory and i didn’t catch that but this is interesting, thanks for indulging me haha
Literally only just now realizing that I didn't post your initial message sjdbsksjjs sorry I got excited. But yeah while the hof (or Orlesian warden-commander) is clearly competent and warden-commanders in other countries with more established warden orders are given a decent amount of autonomy, what's happening in Ferelden after origins is a special case. There wasn't a terribly heavy warden presence there before the Blight (locals are understandably skittish about outside military orders being in their business. This is gone over somewhat in The Calling), and the Ferelden monarchy granting the wardens an arling + the commander a title is kind of unprecedented. Amaranthine is kind of an experiment, and the folks up in Weisshaupt have a vested interest in it going well, as the wardens had been steadily losing popularity and relevance before the fifth blight (because it's been so long since the fourth and lots of people just thought that the dark spawn were like, gone).
