Let's talk about suspenders Because they are criminally underutilised in fics
So when I set out on this project I honestly thought it would be the girdles/garters/stockings that would mystify me. Little did I foresee that it would be the suspenders that present a learning curve.
Pros
Definitely more comfortable than belts if you don't like tight clothes/pressure around your midsection.
Much better at holding up your pants than belts. The thing with belts is that it is just slightly narrowing the waistband of your trousers; when you walk, sit, or move around, the trousers can still ride down (and if you tighten the belt further it gets really uncomfortable). Suspenders, on the other hand, literally suspend your trousers from your shoulders. So they aren't going anywhere.
Cons
When it comes to bathrooms...assuming you're wearing trousers, it literally only makes sense for going number one standing up. Under any other circumstances, you will either have to shrug off the straps and thereby potentially dragging them across dirty bathroom floors, or unclipping/unbuttoning the suspenders which is just stupid.
(If you use them with skirts it's fine.)
Huge potential for wedgies if you don't know what you're doing. And the thing is, when you first get your pair and if you aren't used to them, you might not know what length to adjust to. Which sucks.
Protip
If you want to dress/undress your blorbo, you don't need to specifically unclip/unbutton the suspenders. You can just shrug them off then take off the shirt and/or undo the flies on the trousers as normal. Think about how firefighters put on those fire resistant pants.
Don't mix belts and suspenders. Just, don't. Not that they physically can't go together, it's just redundant and a fashion sin. (Pretty sure I've read a smut fic where blorbo—I don't even remember which one—is wearing both suspenders and a belt. 🎵that made me cry)
Fun things to do to your blorbos in suspenders
Put them in a fight scene and have their opponents grab them by the suspenders like naughty children. This is probably a pretty amateurish move, but hey, fighting dirty is fun.
Tumblr media
Snap those elastic straps for bullying/NSFW purposes. You know that annoying thing that people do with bra straps? Now's your chance to do it to these boys. (made your mark on me, a golden tattoo is I think the only fic I've come across that does use this for NSFW purposes and you know. It was utilised very well.)
Wedgie them
Some Thoughts About Agent Carter Costumes: On Style and Level of Comfort
aka ‘you won’t believe who actually is the little diva fashionista’
So in 2021, I set myself a little challenge: emulate the characters’ outfits so I can understand first-hand how they move and what historical outfits feel like. It’s been more than a year since I began that project, and I have some interesting findings…

I’m rewatching Agents of Shield and here is a (final) list of things I genuinely forgot happened:
(and also little things i enjoy)
season seven:
- deke printed out sheriff stars
- “i just can’t seem to hold down a husband as they all just turn up with broken ribs when they give me lip” - daisy
- coulson learned about the speakeasy in a first year history course at the academy
- the first thing may says after finding out she’s in 1931, was “i’m hungry”
- “i’m a doctor, not a dame” “i’m a biochemist not a bird” fucking icon jemma simmons
- deke tells freddy that he invented the walkie-talkie
- “agent may, if i may?” enoch is so funny
- …may says she doesn’t feel anything when she wakes up, even though her empathy-ability is already present (though no one knows it yet). she wakes up and feels nothing because the only other person there is enoch, who isn’t human, and therefore doesn’t feel anything, at least not the way we do
- she also talks in a very-enoch like connotation during these scenes (same sort of lilt in her voice)
- they brought koenig onboard the zephyr and he said “excuse me if i’m not impressed” and then immediately lost his shit. he also called enoch a robot, and enoch made a very “bitch, please” face
- freddy shot koenig in the shoulder
- enoch is shown to be working as a bartender at the end of s7ep2 for koenig
- the zephyr scared two teenagers half to death when they got to the fifties
- younger daisy (aka skye ig) believed that area 51 was controlled by shield and was proven right
- the first time may showed signs of her empathy besides the monotone killer mood was when trying to single out the chronicom starting up helius and she basically had a panic attack
- also the chronicom they’re chasing has a very dottie underwood like aesthetic (ofc i’m referencing agent carter when my boy sousa is back)
- overriding the system knocked out the two chronicoms and coulson.
- the camera zoomed in on coulson’s eye and showed a circuit flickering
- the reason s7ep4 is in black and white is because of a malfunction in the wires
- sousa was considered the first fallen soldier of shield
- sousa called howard a pompous ass (he’s right and he should say it)
- mack compared the effect of sousa’s death on shield to the effect of coulson’s to the avengers
- sousa stole a motorcycle from the zephyr
- deke said he wrote the song “don’t you (forget about me)”
- he also name drops daisy in his own lyrics
- coulson’s in a tv
- sybil’s “dumb bot” acts just like a dalek for a sec
- may and yoyo sparred to try and trigger yoyo’s powers into working again
- yo-yo got stuck on the quinjet at the beginning of each loop
- in several loops, mack gets blinded by a radiation flare
- deke gives the distance from the center of the time storm in kilometers, which i initially thought was strange cause y’know american, but then i realized that deke literally grew up in space and that fitz-simmons basically created all the tech/software on board so yeah metric system
- daisy proved to simmons that she was in a loop with the fake word: “phlebotinum”
- when trying to remove the implant, on the first two tries, a lethal gas filled the room killing simmons (and the second time, daisy)
- in one loop, sousa grabbed the machine to remove the implant from the drawer instead of daisy or simmons and started coughing up blood
- also he literally grabbed it so that if something went wrong daisy wouldn’t die and lose her memories of the time loop
- may initially didn’t want to tell kora about jiaying but then brought her to see her body
- kora tried to help her mother heal by giving her energy
- simmons started forgetting fitz after malick put her in the memory machine

THE COMICS OF MAURÍCIO DE SOUZA AND ROMANCE
@themousefromfantasyland @the-blue-fairie @thealmightyemprex @piterelizabethdevries @amalthea9 @barbossas-wench @tamisdava2 @princesssarisa
Tumblr media
Monica's Gang (Turma da Mônica in Portuguese), also known as Monica and Friends, is an ongoing Brazilian comic book series, created by Mauricio de Sousa.
The series was originally based on a newspaper comic strip in which the protagonists were Blu (Bidu) and Franklin (Franjinha), launched by the newspaper Folha da Manhã in 1959. Over the years the series has been gaining a large audience, with new characters constantly being added to the lineup. Jimmy Five (Cebolinha) and Monica (Mônica) were eventually given their own comic books, hence the title "Monica's Gang." The characters and comics were eventually adapted into films, video games, TV shows, theme parks and a wide range of products.
The stories revolve around the adventures of Monica and her many friends in the fictional neighborhood of "Limoeiro" in São Paulo. The neighborhood was inspired by the neighborhood of Cambuí, in Campinas and the city of Mogi das Cruzes, where de Sousa spent his childhood. However, the comic books do not simply revolve around the stories of Monica and her friends.
The Monica's Gang series has an extensive amount of main and secondary characters. It has as main protagonists Monica, Jimmy Five, Smudge, Maggy and Chuck Billy (the latter derived from Chuck Billy 'n' Folks) and each has its own comic.
Other characters from other series created by Mauricio de Sousa are also included on Monica's, making crossovers or quotations from each other in several stories, among several other characters. The main setting of the stories is the fictional neighborhood of "Limoeiro" in São Paulo.
Most stories focus on the daily lives of the main characters and occasionally on the secondary characters; the humour usually uses various types of repetitions, allusions, appeals to the nonsense, paranomasias, sarcasm and metalanguage. The stories with Monica and Jimmy Five revolve around the conflict between the two. Jimmy Five is a troublemaker
who always tries to scold Monica or steal her stuffed bunny to give knots in its ears (usually having Smudge or another boy accomplice), always having Monica get her revenge by hitting him with her stuffed bunny, often leaving him bruised and with black eyes. Often Jimmy Five makes plans against her with various traps, sometimes using Franklin's inventions or talking Smudge into helping, but he always loses to Monica at the end.
Smudge's stories usually focus on his penchant for dirt and mess and his fear of water, without ever having taken a bath in life, and constantly being threatened by villains or his friends to take a bath whenever he gets away with a result at the end of the story. The stories with Maggy generally focus on her gluttony, with a superhuman ability to eat more than a normal person without ever getting fat and sometimes stealing food from her friends.
Among the villains are Captain Fray, a supervillain with the power to control garbage and dirt, and Lord Big Rabbit, a space bunny whose first appearance was in the movies. Lord's design was inspired on the iconic Star Wars' villain and main antagonist, Darth Vader. A joke often breaks the fourth wall.
So, I learned to read and became a lover of comic books due to Monica's Gang and its several spin-offs.
The writers used the medium of comics to branch into the most varied genres with the same characters: gags, slice of life, horror, sci fi, fantasy, action, adventure, parodies of classic literature, TV shows and movies, and of course, romance.
While usually the main characters went trough the Will They or They Will Not melodrama, we saw side characters who lived long love stories that overall, while not necessarily without disagreements, could still enjoy peace and comfort in a romantic relationship born of great respect, friendship and complicity, and there two pairings I would like to highlight.
TIA NENA AND TIO PEPO
Tumblr media
Tia Nena and Tio Pepo were created in 1989 at the launch of Maggy's magazine to be Maggy's permanent great uncles.
Tia Nena is a great cook, considered by Maggy  to be "the biggest chef in the neighborhood". As time went by, the scriptwriters began to give her an extra layer, revealing Nena to be a good witch.
Her husband, Tio Pepo, is a carpenter, ready to make toys for the neighborhood kids.
Nena has a very maternal personality and genuine affection for those she loves, always protecting them with her heart as sweet as the delicacies she makes.
Even with her graceful manner, Nena always keeps an eye open towards some people, especially knowing that she is the target of malicious actions due to her magical powers, serving as a wise, ruthless and comical "fairy godmother", always willing to end injustices with your courage and determination.
Maggy's sweet and caring great-aunt has a long line of Moon witches in her family. She uses her magical knowledge to prepare delicious recipes and protect her loved ones. It is known that she has had powers since she was little and, with a touch of humor and wisdom, Nena guides Maggyon her journey of discovering magic, teaching her valuable lessons about family, friendship and the power of love.
Pepo is very kind, naive and affectionate, he has a childish soul and no evil in his heart, he is the typical little man who tries hard to please everyone, especially children. Since he was little, he was someone creative, who looked at the world through the eyes of a child. He knows about his wife's magical abilities and participates in fantastic events together with her.
Love is something that builds over time. We usually are led to assume is only resumed to the conquest leading to the wedding.
Tia Nena and Tio Pepo show us that the building of an affectionate relationship goes beyond that, always expanding independently of age. And trough their companionship and love, they not only enrich each other's lives, but are inspired to always make the world a better place for all the people around them, and that is why I find them wholesome.
PUFF AND STEVE
Tumblr media
From the light hearted teenager and young adult focused Tina's Pals magazine, comes the couple Puff (Pipa) and her boyfriend Steve (Zecão), the best friends of protagonist Tina.
Puff is very cheerful, passionate, super humorous and happy with life. She is the classic goofball when it comes to friendships, because she makes everyone and everything happy, always with the right opinion to give at the moment.
Quick on the verbal trigger, she doesn't let anything go unnoticed and is quite intelligent, a classic colleague who never lets you down, as she understands the value of companionship.
Because she is chubby, she keeps trying to go on a diet with a "deadline", but cannot resist a good chocolate bar, generating themes of body acceptance and self-esteem.
Despite her extremes, such as judging a lot (even without intention) or her insecurity (a result of her appearance, but she always tries to deconstruct this), she is a good confidant, well, just to vent, but one must be careful because Puff loves gossip and, from time to time, ends up releasing one or another valuable piece of information. Sincere, polite, but with a loose tongue, she is not afraid to express herself and say what she feels, especially to her boyfriend, Steve.
Despite working, Steve is a loose boy who likes to just spend time with his group of friends. He hates extending conversations or taking serious responsibility, but when he strikes a mature pose, he tries to show confidence.
He is absent-minded, carefree, calm and relaxed. This sometimes ends up hindering his relationship with Puff, as she, on several occasions, becomes frustrated with the coldness with which Zecão treats her weight and beauty (always, unintentionally), describing her as something that does not need to receive attention (even more so when others are around).
Steve has a huge passion and admiration for Puff, who is his opposite because she is very energetic and has an extroverted personality, always knowing how to start a conversation, unlike him, who doesn't even know how to answer clearly what people ask him.
He doesn't care that Puff is chubby. He loves her and is an incredible confidant. He has flaws, but he always decides to fix them, trying to be the best version of himself, without completely letting go of his essence as an individual.
Meanwhile, while Puff comits mistakes from which she has to grow and learn, the main lesson she learns from being with Steve is to take what she sees as "defects" in her, and start to see them as her best qualities.
In the world of Tina's Pals, Mauricio de Sousa reverses the roles imposed by society, as the main character Tina, who is tall, thin and determined, never finds someone to have a romantic relationship with and who would actually do her good, while Puff, in her conditions, dates Steve, who accepts her the way she is.
Showing once again that you maybe can lose weight if you want to or not, but in Mauricio's world, your way of being, thinking and acting guarantees you a happy ending.

Window Story? Now I'm intrigued. /gen XD
the window story. oh, dear, the window story. context: this was about this post Let me set the scene. 7th grade French class. Great teacher, who i'll be calling Mr. S. The room we were in had these really cool giant windows, as did all of the rooms on that wing of the building. They were floor to ceiling, but the bottom panel opened. This was on the second floor. This was first year french (in my school district, French IA as they split it into 2, one half 7th and one half 8th grade.) One of our first vocab lists included the word fenêtre, or window. We, the people we were, did not yet know the words for open or close or can we, so we were all just like (all the time) "mr s!!! can we open la fenêtre???" and he'd be like. sure. he tried to tell us out to say it but that didn't stick. "open la fenêtre" was iconic and we loved it the fenêtre, the window, became an icon in that class. you need a group name? WE WANNA BE THE FENÊTRES! now the actual part of this story (which is very anti-climactic considering the amount of build up) comes next. I don't know how we got on the subject (i think it was a fire drill) but we were talking about how it might be possible to survive a fall out of la fenêtre. queue: someone looking up on wiki-how how to jump out a window. this became a class discussion. it got heated. it was very funny. we were making plans. there were many things that happened in that class examples: - that time me and a friend of mine worked with our OTHER french teacher (8th grade) to learn how to say "the baby drowned in the sea without it's parents" because of an example picture with the titular baby (ms. F, the teacher, was fine with it and just found it funny. i still have the note i wrote about it on a shelf in my room.) - that time i read tarot for mr. s - all the times we gathered around a chromebook and pulled up slapboxing - that time ms. f had a child so we had a sub who had a very heavy accent and never learned my name correctly, so i was a slightly different name for like half the year (not name dropping myself here but you get the picture) - the absolute CHAOS vocab games would cause - that time i did John Phillip Sousa as a celebrity for a "describe this person" type project because i didn't listen to anybody at the time people would know and didn't really know actors from movies or anything and, yknow, other chaotic things

Modern Art of Bahia Museum’s Unique Heritage Collection
Tumblr media
Bahian Museum of Art
Through the most recognisable pieces in collection, which are now digitally available, discover the colourful tapestry of modern Brazilian art, from historical roots to contemporary voices.
Nestled in a picturesque architectural complex on Salvador’s beachfront is one of Brazil’s most significant modern art organizations. Google’s is thrilled to present the rich legacy collection of the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia to a worldwide audience for the first time. This collection perfectly embodies the lively spirit of Brazil.
Through a partnership with Google Arts & Culture, more than 70 of Google’s collection’s paintings have been digitised in extremely high resolution, making the MAM-Bahia experience accessible online. Now, visitors from all over the world can explore Google’s digital collection and learn about the tales that distinguish our museum. Here are three highlights that are not to be missed to get you started:
Going from Manor to Museum
Explore the rich past of Solar do Unhão, the stunning coastal community home to the Museum. Discover how this ancient monument, which dates back to the 16th century, changed over time and became the great cultural hub it is today thanks to the ideas of architect Lina Bo Bardi.
The most significant facility for modern and contemporary art in the state of Bahia is the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia. Its breathtaking site, the mediaeval mansion Solar do Unhão, overlooking the ocean and surrounded by lush foliage, lends an extra degree of beauty to the art experience.
Constructed in the 17th century, the Solar do Unhão has an interesting history, having passed through the hands of affluent families, Benedictines, and even a snuff factory in the early 1900s.
It was first mentioned in writing in the sixteenth century. Gabriel Soares de Sousa, a Portuguese coloniser, farmer, and historian, was the owner. They left the region to the Benedictines of Bahia in will after passing away on an expedition close to the Paraguaçu River’s sources.
Italian-Brazilian architect created the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia vision and was its first director from 1959 to 1963. They is well recognized for creating the Museum of Art of São Paulo (MASP) project.
The Rubem Valentim Pavilion and a new Sculpture Garden were added to the museum area in 1998.
Presently, MAM-BA’s exhibition spaces feature well-known artists from Brazil and beyond, solidifying the museum’s position as a major player in the country’s contemporary art landscape.
In addition to art shows, the museum hosts a busy cultural schedule. A vibrant community of learning and involvement is fostered by the museum through continuing educational programs and multilingual events.
Enlarge the assortment
Discover about 70 high-definition digital masterpieces from the MAM-Bahia collection thanks to Google Arts & Culture. From modernist classics like Tarsila do Amaral and Rubem Valentim to contemporary artists like Bob Wolfenson and Panmela Castro, explore the brushstrokes and uncover hidden elements in paintings.
Modernist Icon Tarsila do Amaral
The famous Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral (1886–1973) used startling colours and compositions. Manor to Museum used Brazilian themes and sceneries in her ‘Modern Art’.
An Up-Close Look at Tarsila’s “O Touro”
Let’s take a closer look at Tarsila do Amaral’s well-known “O Touro.” Observe how the strong visuals and vivid colours express the tenacity and resiliency of Brazilian culture. Bold, geometric shapes are used to symbolise the bull, a symbol of both industry and nature.
Tarsila do Amaral used European avant-garde, especially cubism, but Manor to Museum also created her own personal style by fusing Brazilian colours and ideas into her works. This resulted in a genuinely original artistic voice.
Produced in 1928, this piece of art represents a turning point in her creative development. It’s reminiscent of her previous “Pau-Brasil” (Brazilwood) style, but it’s also deeply based in her “Antropofagia” (Anthropophagy) period.
There is something gigantic about the bull, the main character, that goes beyond realism. Its geometric and simple design is reminiscent of the early 20th century cubist influences.
Tarsila embraced ‘ugly’ or inoffensive colours like violet pink and pure blue, which were deemed to be daring and unfashionable at the time. Her devotion to artistic innovation and pushing limits was evident in this audacious decision.
Viewers are still drawn to the artwork because of its vibrant colour scheme, straightforward shapes, and surreal atmosphere, which entice us to explore a fanciful vision of the Brazilian countryside.
Highlighting Black Art
Salvador’s cultural landscape is enriched with African heritage. Without the contributions of Black Artists, whose works reflect the influence of Afro-Brazilian faiths, customs, and people, Bahia’s art would not be the same. Learn about some of the well-known names that comprise the museum’s collection and the ways in which up-and-coming artists are realising their ideas and cultural legacies.
Salvador, Bahia’s lively capital, is a distinctive destination due to its African roots. The city has the most African descendants worldwide.
Emanoel Araújo
Emanoel Araújo (1940-2022) incorporated Afro-Brazilian culture into his prints, paintings, and sculptures. Emanoel Araújo’s attention to Afro-Brazilian heritage is visible in his paintings.
Araújo’s impact extended beyond galleries and museums. As the director of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and later the Afro Brazil Emanoel Araújo Museum, he was honoured following his passing.
Panmela Castro
Powerful Brazilian artist and activist Panmela Castro (b. 1981) promotes women’s rights and social justice through her art. Her murals, paintings, and performances address gender equality and feminine identity.
In this picture, the artist depicts Federal University of Bahia scholar Ana Cláudia Lemos Pacheco, who studies the “solitude of the Black woman”.
Juarez Paraíso
Juarez Paraíso, a notable Brazilian artist (b. 1934), works in sculpture, painting, and printmaking. Paraíso has greatly influenced the art scene in Bahia and Brazil. His art is modernist with a twist.
Google’s uses interlocking circular structures that resemble organic shapes. His emphasis on circularity and organic forms distinguishes him from geometric modernism.
Tiago Sant’Ana
Contemporary Brazilian artist Tiago Sant’Ana (b. 1990) is making waves with his thought-provoking paintings on race, history, and power.
The “Sugar Shoes” series emphasises freedom’s precarious balance. These sugar shoes represent Black liberation. Their impending dissolving in seawater highlights their newfound citizenship’s vulnerability.
Anderson AC
Versatility defines Anderson AC (b. 1979). He works in painting, graffiti, collage, photography, video, and installation. Memory, history, and past-present links are common topics in his art.
His creations often start with found objects, giving them new life. This shows his interest in personal and collective histories.
