      It had been Buffy that reported the break-in, during one of her nightly patrols. Giles had arrived as soon as he could, to a report that there seemed to be no vampiric activity in the building, or any noticeable activity at all. He had told her to go back to work and that he would take a look around, chalking it up to, perhaps, one of the teenagers from the school deciding it might be amusing to play a prank.

      Giles soon realised his mistake when he only just caught sight of a shadow beyond the edges of his vision, just as he turned on the lights, and found himself rendered immobile. An arm wrapped around his throat, pressing down hard enough to cut off his oxygen and make the world spin, his glasses dislodged and fallen to the ground. He grasped desperately at the arm grappling him, barely managing to get out what he was trying to say - “Wh-at do y-you want--?”
