OH ALSO when people try to make adaptations where one of the families is like, actively oppressing the other, it makes me crazy. the whole point is that the feud is meaningless and both sides are at fault if you make one side way more easy to sympathize with you kind of lose that

#not that you CAN'T make it about racial tension/tensions between real-life groups #like west side story does it pretty well #but often it either just loses the 'both alike in dignity' bit #or they DO try to make the two houses equal but it doesn't really work because it's like #'yeah my family has been enforcing systemic racial discrimination on you for years but you called me a cracker once!'#sorry if this doesn't make sense it's kind of early but ykwim #.txt
