Introduction Post
I've been wanting to do an indroductory post for a while, so let's do that :D
Hi, I'm Tasha (she/her) :) ( you can call me Mer, too, if you want)
I basically post art, writing related things and the occasional life-update or thought. Ofc some tumblr shenanigans like tag games and the like, too
Speaking of; feel free to @ me in tag games or other posts as you like :) If you don't want to be tagged, please let me know, I'll note it and ofc won't do it anymore
Asks: By all means, send me asks. I don't want to be like formally doing requests but I don't mind receiving them, if I feel like it, I'll ofc do it, if not, I'll let you know.
My asks are usually tagged with #tasha asks
My other #s
#tasha talks : Life updates and the like. Do I mostly forget this tag? yeahhhh
#tasha is not okay actually : Hi, I'm Tasha, and my mental health is shit. These might get a little dark at times, but I promise there's no reason to worry, being dramatic helps to keep the demons at bay
#mer-acle art tag : My art
#fic: fighting to be loved : My main EPIC fanfic that's currently being written, I post updates, snippets and ofc when a new chapter comes out :)
#nemori : Posts relating to my original novel "Nemori" which is in progress rn. (feel extra free to ask about it my life will be yours)
#marielle tag : related to Nemori, tag for my MC Marielle
#tartarus buddies tag : when you want watch my friend @evermorecatra and me being absolutely unhinged together (mainly about EPIC!Athena) you should check out this tag, we worked hard to earn it.
My projects/Other socials:
Here's my linktree
Some explanations:
I post a bunch of art on instagram, you can find some animatics and movie analysis videos on youtube, and ofc an unreasonable amount of my fanfic on Ao3 (masterpost of what works you'll find here, I've got EPIC, and MCU stuff)
Fandoms:
It's tumblr lol. Ofc I have fandoms. EPIC The Musical and Greek Mythology would be the big ones especially atm.
Some other things I have watched/read and can therefore be talked to about lol:
MCU (Infinity Saga mainly), LotR, The Boys, The Promised Neverland, Six of Crows, Hazbin Hotel, Mean Girls (Musical and otherwise), Heathers (Musical and otherwise), Beetlejuice (Musical and otherwise), Saw, AtlA, Encanto, The Fall of the House of Usher, Arcane (Season One so far no spoilers pls), Miraculous (okay I have mostly lore on that rather than Watchtime), It (Stephen King), Hamilton, SIX, The Agatha Christie catalogue lol, Sherlock Holmes, Descendants, Stranger Things, Final Destination (honestly I'm not listing more horror stuff, chances are I know something about it at least), Anne of Green Gables, Dracula, etc... (I already know I missed like a million things, when in doubt, just ask)
Some other stuff:
I can be a little slow with asks or replying to posts, it's not personal at all, my brain is just weird sometimes. If you fear I might have forgotten, don't be afraid to ask/remind me. At any rate, please know if it takes me a day or so it's not bc I don't want to or I'm mad or something <33
xx

HAVE YOU SEEN THE STUFF FOR PATCH 8?! Each class is getting a new subclass and Cleric’s is DEATH DOMAIN. I’m very intrigued by this choice because really I feel like the only god that’s suited for this class already is Kelemvor, so it’s making me wonder if they’re going to officially add the dead three back into the game as deity options. What do you think?
(Also shadow sorceror and hex blade warlock. HELL YEAHHHH more shadowfell stuff)
I think I'm about to mostly be a buzzkill or something. New patches always break my game so I did kind of groan into my hands at this news. I thought patch 7 was supposed to be the last one and I was safe to mod my game. Fuck. And it probably won't add anything I notice in dialogue options...
My opinion on the deity choice list is that it should be scaled back to plot relevant deities, which should be given a lot more reactivity. Which, yes, includes the dead three. Shar, Kelemvor, Bhaal and Myrkul are all applicable for death doman, which I'm happy to have included (clerics always have been the better necromancers).
Ranger's good. The idea of attacking people with jellyfish intrigues me. Drunken master gives me a reason to have that alcohol I compulsively collect and never use, while watching my character with concern for their liver.
Skimming the subclasses I'm mostly indifferent, with a few where I'm annoyed.
I like shadow sorcery. I can't say shadow sorcery or hexblade are bad choices, because they're relevant to Act 2. I'm also still going to throw things at Larian because where is divine soul. w h e r e. Bhaalspawn have an innate sorcery from their divine heritage whether they develop it or not, and sorcerer Durge can literally tell Gale their magic comes from their divine heritage (even if they don't yet realise that's what their instincts are).
I also made an extremely irritated sound at seeing arcane archer and bladesinger on the list (elven traditions and very closed, even in 5e. If you're not at least half-elf good fucking luck finding somebody who will teach you (because they'll be effectively blacklisted by elvendom for it)).
Restriction: Elves only Only elves and half-elves can choose the bladesinger tradition. In the world of Faerûn, elves closely guard the secrets of bladesinging. - Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
A DM can wave this, yes. In canon-canon? No. Most Bladesingers prioritise elven communities and elves aren't even relevant to the plot, where and how are N'Quess going to learn this and why should they be taught?
I'm not married to 2e class restrictions, but I do think they had their place in adding to the setting. (I'm a little more married to 3.5e class restrictions.)
...oh, fuck me, I made a joke about making Vel an arcane archer once ('if we had 3.5e prestige classes') and now I'm going to be actually conflicted about whether or not to give him that subclass.

After watching the game play I'm still on kinda hype but kinda anxious about it.
TLDR; some probably wrong theories about what we're getting, mostly positive but also seems like not as much New Fun things tm
-I loved the animations and art style and backgrounds
-Levels: I think its gonna be like Inquisition and parts of 2 where the levels are more 'set paths' kinda things with beautiful backgrounds very much like Val Royeaux - which is kinda iffy on how little was in Val Royeaux but I imagine there's gonna be 'open world' areas much like the Hinterlands. Idk why I expected something different but I did, and am just worried about how much we'll actually get to explore
-The Combat was Kinda Good Kinda Bad - it was hard to tell exactly how much was button combinations or just spamming X; it looked like there was a parry and a dodge option, and as some others said reminded me of Jedi: Fallen Order - which I really enjoyed !.
-I can already kinda guess though that at higher difficulties the enemies are just gonna be health sponges; idk what difficulty they were playing at its already seemed like the baddies weren't that hard but just didn't go down quickly
-I don't/didn't particularly care for switching between party members, but I also think it will be missed - there was so many times where I had to play Cassandra 1v1ing a dragon bc the rest of my party went down lol. I think it added a level of strategy - again not that I used it much, but it was a mechanic of at least 2 and inquisition that I relied on for harder fights.
-I really really liked the rain effects in cutscenes and on characters - i hope that theres a blood option like that lol.
-I was on the fence about Varric Dying and everyone's theories that he is, but there's no way he's not after that game play lol. I saw a tiktok saying that they could see it where Varric's the one in charge/leading/gathering the Veilguard and with his dying is how Rook becomes leader of the Veilguard and yeahhhh that seems pretty accurate.
-I like the companions commenting on your personality, it's always been a fav component of mine and it seems it might pop up more than in Inquisition.
-Oh the entire opening/showed sequence reminded me so much of the Inquisition one which is kinda :/ but it was good , but also sad in how much it feels like a repeat of a climatic/cinematic set piece (ala bridge collapse, demons, sliding, the veil fucky). The magic effects look gorgeous tho.
-Obligatory comment about Varric not being blonde/ginger
-Saw some others comment on dialogue/voice acting; for me it seemed on par with Inquisition, and again a neither bad nor good thing lol. I can see the faults of it having to establish what happened in Inquisition for new players, but again seems like par for the course.
-The different factions seem very interesting to me, and with how much it was showed in the 'tutorial' I'm curious if they're making it even more apparent than again previous games, at least dialogue wise
-I really think that regardless of class, everyone might be getting some 'extra/magic' abilities - someone pointed out that Harding might have some little extra oomf, and with the limited party, ON TOP OF Veil fuck shit, I think it's very possible to see not only party members with interesting mechanics, that Rook has the potential to arcane stuff - I mean the whole thing with the Veil was that Solas was opening it and giving elves magic (iirc, and the funny hahas about Fenris running around with mage spells lol) so it'd be interesting if that was something race effected as well.
-but overall positive, I think it'll feel like more of the same which isn't bad, but I had also hoped with how much time in development There'd be Something More - this is also based off just some sneak peak stuff. I just don't want a repeat of Andromeda where they change the entire feel to something watered down thats for a bigger audience but essentially not Dragon Age/Bioware
-I would love to comment on the story because at the end of the day thats why I play. - game play wise, it seemed expected, story wise I like how many potential things were brought up but its way too early to tell how much we're going to get. It seems more than Andromeda and Inquisition with the factions and new characters and I can only hope that it has as much depth as breadth that its showing
#dragon age spoilers#tagged spoilers bc of just what others are theorizing about and yeah#this is mostly for me cataloguing initial thoughts#a lot of it sounds critical but again im still fairly hype and just want to analyze everything#biggest thing I'm worried about honestly is level design and game play#da#dragon age the veilguard#my post#dragon rambling

i'm so sorry, i saw you talking about arcane in the other ask you answered a bit ago and it reactivated smthg in my brain that had to analyze what tf was going on in that show. 😩because!! it has aspects to it (other than visually being gorgeous jesus) that were like...yeahhhh YEAH this is interesting to see a story about class divisions and ideology and cool visuals etc etc. like given how limited ekko's screentime was, his presence and faction was so cool and something i want to see so much more off....but at the same time it really does feel like real world biases of the writers impacted the story majorly.
i def agree with the stuff about where characters of color are put into the story, at times it almost feels like they're afraid to include poor characters of color and playing into stereotypes? but like at that point lol you need some writers of color, bc like you said class and race are so intertwined that trying to ignore it just turns into showing primarily poor white characters and their oppressors being more characters of color than anywhere else in the show....
i have a lot of thoughts on the depiction of class in the show but 😭 i WILL talk all day unprompted if i let myself so TLDR, one of my biggest problems with the show is the ableism in how they depict drug use. it honestly really hit home (in a way that wasn't. necessarily cathartic.) that shimmer is explicitly used as healthcare in addition to an illicit substance, like idk if they did it on purpose but to me the similarity to opiates / and the opiate epidemic is so unavoidable idk how you miss it other than having some major privileged blindspots. and that really gets me because i really hate how fantasy drugs like shimmer feed into the idea of crazed addicts and really visibly distort the humanity of drug users into something that's barely recognizable as a person anymore.
caitlyn literally points a gun at a homeless addict when they're in the tent city and then ends up injecting vi with shimmer without her consent and it's just kinda skipped over...it's part of the reason why the firelight's refuge genuinely made me super emotional, bc ekko explicitly says in it that there are people that stay there who are recovering from addiction and it's like WOW yall showed that a shimmer addiction, to one extent or another, is something someone can recover from, and then you show these poor people get used as narrative canon fodder and those two perspectives just aren't lining up for me.
and if you're going along with the metaphor of the opiate epidemic = shimmer, then the fact that silco is a party separate from piltover and is funneling shimmer into the undercity without any help or support from topside breaks up that whole symbolism really quick. i think i would've been okay with silco being a irredeemable villain if a) they'd given ekko and the firelights more time to shine as the real potential lifeline for the undercity and b) had the writers actually connected silco's power with the influence of topside on the undercity.
even if piltover isn't directly funneling shimmer into the undercity, the poverty that pushes people to seek it as healthcare or an escape is created and enforced by topside. the lack of resources and repressive policing of the undercity is what forces people to rely on singular figures who are able to make deals with piltover police to maintain their own influence like vander and silco did. the thing that makes silco a villain should be that he's looking to make a profit and keep people under his thumb just like topside, not that he wants the undercity to be independent. it's not that he's a radical, it's that he wants to recreate the system of oppression in his image. but the writers are really just not committed enough to the themes they setup to see them through and it's so frustrating.
What’s your thoughts on arcane so far? You tend to have good takes on media, so I’m intrigued on what you think of it :0
I wanna say that overall I like it, but there are some things I wish they did differently or weren't afraid of portraying. I'll put this in short form because I feel like that's what will be good for my brain to categorize. I just finished it so I'm still disgesting everything and a second rewatch could probably help refine my opinions, but I'll put what I have so far (also note that I don't play league of Legends so I can't compare it to its game lore or whether or not its better, so I'll be treating Arcane as a standalone series just for this)
Things I appreciated, liked, and thought the series did well:
The animation and art style is gorgeous. I love the spurts of color throughout. I see a lot of references to art and art history, particularly with a LOT of inspiration from Art Nouveau. I feel like the Art Nouveau thing could specifically be intended since Art Nouveau takes inspiration in nature & plants, & one of the themes in Arcane is classicism & how the lower classes have less or little to no access to fresh air/clean water. Art Nouveau used architecture to both mimic nature AND depict it, & in Arcane the people of Zaun have to literally create greenhouses just to get fresh air, and you see the Art Nouveau architecture in Zaun, too. Their access to nature is mostly through Art Nouveau architecture mimicking nature, or self created through greenhouses. By extension, Topside (while still having references to Art Nouveau) seems more influenced by Art Deco, which had emphasis on modernity and luxury.
Classicism. I like the theme of classicism within this series because I feel like it portrays it very well, particularly with showing us the living conditions that the lower classes have to survive in, and how pollution is affecting them first, foremost, and the worst. Also explains why Silco was such a successful crimelord with Shimmer, since the shimmer can be used as medicine to treat illness and injury.
Characters. I think they did the characters really well, and explained their motivations, and their stories intertwining in a complex, yet not overly complicated or cumbersome way. Also a lot of really touching & profound relationships between the characters
Racism and sexism (at least between humans) don't really seem to be a thing in the Arcane world, which in a few ways, is really nice. The female characters are just as complex as the men, there didn't really seem to be any gender roles or prejudice between characters on the basis of "race" or skintone because of the existence of institutional racism.
On top of that, homophobia seems to not really be a thing here either, which is great. I heard that when Vi asks Caitlin if she prefers "men or women", she didn't outright say any specific sexuality because the writers said that it's so normalized, that this society doesn't even HAVE a word for it. I like that. I hope they're more explicit with gay relationships in the next season, and adding trans charas featured in the plot would be awesome
The Jinx vs Ekko fight. That gets its own point on this list because it was visually stunning, the music was killer, and it told a really tragic story with rich history between these two characters in about 2 minutes
The music
The eye motif that keeps popping up
Things that I didn't like, thought could have been done better, or wished they did differently:
Racism/colorism & classicism. I know I said I thought they did the classicism well as well as the fact that there's no racism (IN universe) in Arcane, but at the same time I feel like real world prejudice (irl) of the writers or designers or whoever else was involved leaks through. What I mean is stuff like how 3 of the more violent & less feminine female characters aren't White & are dark skinned (with the only other dark skinned female character is Mel), Mel is probably the most beautiful & most feminine female character & is a dark skinned Black woman but she's also manipulative at times (which I think is worth mentioning, even if it IS a character flaw, since Black women, especially dark skinned women, are often shown as controlling), you have like 3 Asian characters who are rich cops with one being VERY corrupt and working for a crime lord (on top of brutalizing the lower class), Sky is fridged because of a White guy's fault. A lot of the cops, upperclass main characters aren't White, and a lot of the poorer characters are. This is awkward because racism is VERY connected to classicism in real life, especially when talking about environmental racism, so this is almost sort of coming off as a "reverse racism" thing to me, which I don't think was intended, but still. I think in the very least they should have had more lower class characters of color to balance out this issue, but we only have Ekko (whom I love, Ekko is wonderful), Finn (who isn't a main character, doesn't appear much, & works for Silco), & Sevika, who again, is kind of a villian & violent & a foil for Vi, a White woman
On the classicism side, Silco is one of the main "villians" as someone who's trying to take down the oppressive state but he's also cool with killing children & torture & kidnapping, the narrative treats revolutionaries and those who try to fight oppression with violence (because their oppressors are being violent themselves) as if that's the "wrong" way to get freedom, most of the more morally grey characters are poor, the lower classes are frequently shown being violent with each other while the narrative was ALSO trying very hard to humanize the cops & upperclass people so we'd sympathize with them. I think they were trying to do a broken windows theory here, or trying to imply that classicism is inherently violent and creates violence, but I feel like it wasn't very effective or done properly & should have focused less on trying to make us like the rich characters so much, because this way it makes it seem like the poor are just naturally predisposed to violence, that the rich actually DO care about the poor most of the time if it were not for ignorance rather than because of their own classicism/belief of superiority & the dehumanization of poor people, & that most cops are just good guys "following the orders" of whoever is leading them rather than the whole system being wrong & most cops being corrupt or happily complacent. There's ways that they did or tried to show this, but like I said in a previous post, they should have pushed it over the edge.
Ableism... I don't like that Silco, Sevika, and that scientist dude are all kinda demonized & villians, but they're also disabled and/or disfigured in some way. Viktor faces this too, in a way. And again, they're all lower class.
The plot is very picky & convenient with who it wants to kill off & at what time, & plot armor is a fickle bitch. Somehow that little blonde bitch who was jacked up on shimmer was able to survive a direct blast from the hex crystals, but 2 people who had a door & a wall between them & the crystal didn't. Vander, who is MUCH bigger and had WAY more shimmer in his body, was also somehow not able to survive. Vi gets stabbed AND falls from a big height doesn't immediately die. Sevika gets beat up a bunch AND put in front of an explosion and survives multiple times.
I don't want to say I think her "villian origin story" is "weak" (although I don't like using that for her, necessarily), but I think it could have been a bit... stronger. Like Powder says "Vi isn't my sister anymore" & into the arms of a guy who killed her Father & was trying to kill her siblings because Vi went to sit in the corner & she thinks Vi "left" her?? Like kid... you SAW her go over there and sit down, you literally could have followed her over there. Vi was shitty for hitting her little sister & letting her cry by herself in the rain & an idiot for not booking it out of there WITH her when the cops were still looking for them, but I think it could have been more effective if they'd shown Vi get seperated from Powder FIRST, Powder be alone for a while thinking Vi left without her, and Silco progressively manipulating Powder before then her turning to be with him as a replacement Father out of desperation, because to me this just seemed too quick of a character decision for Powder to go from "I'm going to help kill this guy" to "you're my dad now" because of one argument with her sister in the span of like 10 minutes
This is a really minor one but, costumes. I wish the characters had bigger wardrobes & more clothes between all of them, but instead for the most part they all generally wear the same clothing or recolord of the same basic clothing throughout. Alternatively they could have also shown the richer characters with a lot of clothing, and the poor characters wearing the same tattered outfits to further demonstrate class disparity
So that's my thoughts on Arcane... I give it a solid 7/10 at least
#i'm so sorry this is a whole ass essay i literally started taking notes on it back when i watched it because i just had to pull it apart#at the seams and figure out WHY#it was so aggravating but interesting to me#arcane#addiction //#there's also just a lot of really uncomfortable romanticization of how caitlyn treats vi that is SOOO uncomfortable like#she was wrongly imprisoned for YEARS and abused during that time she's not being judgemental for distrusting you on the basis#of the fact that you're a cop!!! and all the wwww enemies to lovers casual classism where she's disgusted by the foods and living situation#of the undercity..........donut like it. not a fan.#also whats his name the pomeranian looking little fucker 'n nno one wanted my h help#you're the WORST.........the WORST. ekko sweetie i'm so sorry you have to comfort this 400 year old dipshit because he didn't fi#**fix systemic violence with a single toy he gave to a child

Fractal Fish: I personally really like this card, albeit it's really slow. There is nothing inherently bad about it! Plus, it feels a bend and I love those XD
Urza's Treasure: an incounterable Mox Opal? Sign me up! WIth the bonus that this can also be used if you have less than three artifacts. It's too bonkers. It's MH levels of complexity and power. Also, I agree that the Urza part is not really there mechanically or at least it feels like it's not there.
Warrior Dragon: hmm, the name feels really too generic to me. I agree with the commentary.
Zombie Mole: I agree with the commentary. Also, the art direction is REALLY nice!
Giant Golem Knight: I agree with the commentary. Also, it's a rare imho, not a mythic.
Arcane Trap: I agree with the commentary. By itself, it's a cool card!
Hellion Demon: I agree with the commentary.
Instant Trap: I agree with the commentary. Also, 3UUU is too high for its base effect.
Droning Licid: Nice art! I agree with the commentary.
Hag Fish: Another self-made art! Yeahhhh! I thin I agree with the commentary, but also I'm the kind of player that does not get discouraged by the "mechanical difficulties" of such cards XD
Treasure Goblin: I really don't like it, it feels done by the sake of doing a card for the contest, to me.
Gold Drake: Tbh, it's one of my favourites among all the entries! As inteded, I really like it. RAW, hell, this is too strong XD
Skeleton Samurai: In the right deck, this could block for a long time. It's a nice card, though.
Phyrexian Druid: I don't like it, but I can't put my finger on why.
Skeleton Knight: I would have preferred "Some Oaths defy death" or something like that, instead of making death an oath XD Eh, I'm not sure about the card, again.
Ooze Shade: before reading the commentary. I think It would have been better if it were just a Shade, yaknow? Aaaand damn, I didn't think about mixing the two counters! Dang.
Sand Elemental: The current "colourless" frame is ugly AF. Sad thing, the old one is less ugly but still meh. Colourless is really a bad thing XD Aesthetically. First, I love the card! I would love for it to work in pauper, but it's just too weak, sadly. If there only were a Pox deck in pauper :( But, also, going with less than 7 mana for the reanimation would have made this an uncommon at least. Ugh. It's so hard to have new card in pauper that are not stupidly broken.
Nightmare Spider: I really don't like the card. First, it should be "then you may pay 2." Second, yeah, too much text. Just reveal the card OR don't reveal it at all. Third, it's really oppressive. Maybe as a 3/1 or 3/2 this would have been better, P/T-wise. You are going to always leave 2 open to simply not make people draw. The FT is really cool.
Urza's Fortification: I agree with the commentary.
Constructed Cleric: 4 mana might be enough to not make the ability too strong, but also 5-8 mana is too much. I agree with the commentary.
Hamster Advisor: I agree with the commentary. But also I like the card :P
Aetherborn Angel: I agree, it's a cool card. I'm not sure if giving the counters to anyone feels better or worse than putting the counters on itself only. Maybe like this it's simply better.
Goblin Knight: Simple, effective, nothing to say.
Island Turtle: I don't understand why this becomes an enchantment that makes a land a creature if this is a creature by itself instead of an enchantment land.
Island Turtle (again XD): I agree with the commentary.
Enchantment Class Saga: The name is uuuuhhhh not what a card would be called at all. I agree with the commentary. Though, points for daring to do such a thing!
Treasured Clue: Oh well, I like it a lot!
Orgg Hag: Found the perfect name for a D&D character XD At least the pronunciation <3 The card is cool. Might be really powerful! Personally I don't think that the last ability is out of place; at most, not something tied to those two types.
First Name, Last Name, Occupation Commentary
You guys really swung for the fences for this one. I was inspired to run this by fun little cards like Cat Warriors, Goblin Assassin, and Dragon Turtle. Cards that do one type by way of another. You guys, for the most part, tried to get as weird as possible, more akin to Urza’s Saga. I purposefully left it open ended to allow non-creatures, but I did not expect about half the cards to be a type other than creature. Some people in the Discord tried to break the rules even more than that. Personally, I wish there were more simple creatures, but I’m happy with what I got.
So without further ado, here’s the commentary! They’re alphabetical by submitter’s tumblr name or preferred credit.
