Hatori is a sucker for domestic life

Like,, all he wants is normality

He wants someone to wake up to in the morning, and fall asleep to at night

He wants someone to know how he likes his coffee, and makes it without thinking twice

(He’s a short black kinda guy, btw)

((The only other things he will drink is water or green tea))

Going off that, his primary love language is acts of service

You will practically never brush your own hair again

He loves being able to take care of you in such a simple way

Does the same whenever you have muscle cramps

He struggles giving words of affirmation, but Loves receiving them

If you’re not really amazingly good at reading people, you probably didn’t realise he was interested in you

There were no major indicators

Shocked EVERYONE except Shigure and Ayame when y’all got together

Hatori gets Real jealous when his two dumbasses start flirting with you

Somethings that I think about while watching Fruits Basket. *Spoiler for anyone who hasn’t watched the show.

Everyone knows that Yuki and Kyo have many parallels about the way their lives were supposed to go and what they had to deal with. Maybe its not news to anyone who has watched the show, but its interesting that Yuki, being the Rat, was the one who was confined for most of his life and ignored, living in “pitch blackness”, while Kyo, who was supposed to be the one locked away for his entire life, was able to live out in the open and with Kazuma Soma. Kyo was never in his own life confined. Just something I found interesting.

Yuki and Machi. Yuki’s name (I’m sure amongst other meanings) means “snow”. As we know, Machi hates snow because freshly fallen snow represents perfection to her, but thanks to Yuki’s kindness, she was able to see the good in “imperfect snow”, or snow that doesn’t have to only be perfect. On the flip, everyone always thinks Yuki is princely, that Yuki is “perfect”, when we know it’s far from the truth. He was presented as perfect when he wasn’t trying and was damaged on the inside, while Machi fought tooth and nail to be perfect and in turn was damaged on the inside. They were destined to find each other. A girl who fought to be perfect and is now scared of perfection, and a boy who was perceived to always be perfect but only wanted to feel human. They found the good in each other that didn’t have to involved perfection in the slightest, and yet they are perfect for each other.

Out of all the zodiac animals, the dragon was the last one “to die” in the original story. It is also the year of the Dragon when the curse is finally broken, or dies. (We know it’s the year of the Dragon as Hatori is the last new years’ dancer). I thought the timing of that was beautiful.

Knowing that Kureno was 26 and Hiro was about 12, it stands to reason there is about a 14 year age gap between the 2. In that case, I do believe Kureno’s curse must’ve broken shortly after Hiro’s birth, since he’s the youngest Zodiac member.

"Tohru smiles at him, something warm coming to her cheeks. He’s more considerate than people give him credit for, she thinks. There’s something about the brightness of his smile and the energy that’s constantly running through his veins and coming out in bursts of laughter and movement that makes him seem childish, that makes him seem like he’s less than he is. Seeing him here, holding the violin, in his element, Tohru thinks that maybe she’s beginning to see through all of that."

This passage is so beautiful!

"Last time that they had talked, Momiji had said that he was going to quit playing violin, but he had promised her a concert, just between the two of them. Tohru is, with a sudden and acute awareness, terrified that this is going to be the last time that he plays violin. She doesn’t know what to do with that, with this gift— if she’s the last person to hear him play, play for real, that means he’s given up on his dream of a concert just for his family.

She can’t let that happen.

For the hundredth time that week, Tohru promises herself that she’s going to find a way to break the curse. This isn’t going to be Momiji’s last concert. His mother hasn’t heard him play, not yet."

Oh, so that's when this is set… and ah, even now, Tohru's thoughts are on other people… ;_;

"Even in such a simple song, Tohru can hear the talent that rests in Momiji’s fingertips, she can feel the longing in the notes— the wishing for something that you can never have, the aching desire to hold it in your hands and the coldness in your palms where you know it will never lay. She can hear every emotion that she’s ever felt poured into each note."

Oh, this is where I also teared up, this is so beautifully and poignantly written!

"the bow of the violin falling across the strings as if it were the wind brushing through the trees."

Beautiful imagery.

"The music spills out from the violin in a kind of heartbreak, in a kind of longing, in a kind of wanting. There are no words for this, Tohru thinks. There is only sheet music. There is only song."

Brilliant!

It was very touching and sweet and I'm glad it ended the way it did... maybe, in another timeline, it would be like this. ;_;

As for whether it's in-character or not, until the very end where it took a direction different from the manga/anime, I could honestly say I could easily believe this private concert took place. I also pictured it in the anime's style and even heard their voices, it was sweet and beautiful and felt just like them. Thank you!

The fandom’s demonization of Momiji’s mother shows both that the userbase is still entirely biased against the concept of mentally ill abusers (or in denial that mental illness can manifest in abusive behaviour left untreated) and the general ignorance in society about postpartum depression.

Rejection of the child, inability to care for the child, suicide attempts, resentment of the baby, thoughts of harming one’s self and/or the baby… that’s all textbook post-partum depression. Momiji’s mother needed therapy, but no, everything gets forgotten, swept under the rug, and Momiji has to stay out of sight like he’s illegitimate.

Completed watching Fruits basket

Yesterday when I saw the episode and I stopped at there to go to sleep

I woke up feeling like I never should've watched this anime, because of the way it made me feel, it made me feel so much and I worried about Kyo being in any way related to Kyoko's death

I didn't want that, and so I worried, and I woke up feeling too much, I thought, yes maybe I should've never watched this, it makes me feel too much

But I did, I continued watching it

And I'm glad I did

And in a way, isn't this show exactly about it?

Don't stop halfway, don't give up, whatever the outcome is, we are ourselves, and we have to accept it

A bad situation is a bad situation, but we can accept it, we can look for the good within it, we can hug our fears, we can choose to do something about everything and do it

Locking away our feelings is the same as locking away a part of you, you might feel trapped, because you trapped a part of yourself away from you

So shouldn't we welcome all of ourselves, and embrace the parts which we want to lock away, because everything needs love, and all of you. Each and every inch of you is deserving of this love.

I love myself, and I accept myself. And I hope that everyone and everything finds themselves and the happiness that awaits them.

I'll make a note of all the words from the show that I hold dear to me, and post them.

I want to remember how this show made me feel

The feelings I feel may fade into the background

But I'll always remember feeling so strongly

I'm happy for everyone

For all of my fictional characters, for the real ones too

And everyday, I'll strive to be a better person, to others and to myself.

I always decline when someone talks shit about themselves, but I've realised that me doing that isn't a good thing, it's my way of keeping a positive approach, but sometimes people want to hear about things as they are, and maybe I should do that and listen and understand and still be able to say, "It's okay if it's this way, but it's in your hands to do something about it, I'll be here to help, but you're the one who has to take a step further"

I've also realised from this anime, that I'm always scared or embarrassed to say the word lonely, it feels wrong, I feel ashamed even, it feels pathetic. But it's a feeling and it's okay to feel this way. At times like this, I've to reach out and everything will start feeling okay

I will hold on to these words, the poetic beauty, this anime, this feeling it made me feel, for as much time as I can🫶

When I found out Tohru was hurting as well, when she spoke about how she's not pure too

When she was lonely, when she went through things too, how she shut away parts from herself

I felt, something. Frustration maybe? More of sadness, a feeling of misery, a feeling of why. Why did she feel all of this, why. But not in a way of feeling sad for Tohru, but a way of madness, of feeling like, You can't feel this way.

And I wondered about myself. a lot at that moment.

Tohru to me looked like a happy person, a person who cares about everyone, is a friend, a mother, a family member. And resonating back on what I felt, I feel like I looked at Tohru as a character in that way. And when she broke, it felt like something that should've never happened. Because that is how I see the elder people in my family, the ones I love. So much. I can never imagine how I'd feel if I ever saw them crying, hurt, heartbroken. I don't ever want to see them feel this way. But if ever, such a thing happens, I want to be there, to repair such feelings.

I once saw my uncle almost cry, and I don't ever want to see him like that again. It stays within my mind and my heart clenches, because to me he is a strong mountain.

When she spoke about her feelings, and when she told Akito if she's pure then so Is Akito, I understood a little better of the way I felt

of the things she felt

Of how all of us are human

And how all of us feel lonely

How all of us need love

And how all of us, are all of us

....

I wasn't planning on writing this much

But, I'm glad I did
