i realize i keep talking about summertime [the post-war vignettes dctctc installment] without actually like... posting any of it, but it's because i'm still really not sure how to handle the part that would come in between start taking your chances and summertime, because i want to keep gale going down over bremen and bucky going down over munster and i DON'T want curt to go down with them. i want curt stuck at thorpe abbotts essentially sitting out the rest of the war for some reason.

[if he was gonna go down at any point it would've been regensburg and it would've been The Moosburg AU, which WILL live in my head forever but will be a b-side to the whole verse if it ever exists as more than Thoughts]

so like, how to keep him off EITHER mission, and also from getting fucked up in the air AFTER the buckies are stalaged? what i'm thinking right now is, curt and what's left of his crew get sent to a flak house like rosie and his crew; the crew that i used as proof-of-concept for "copilot dies but the plane and pilot survive" [crew #9, pilot sumner reeder] were sent to a flak house and offered ground duties by bill veal after the mission it happened on, so i'm probably just going to transpose that onto curt's crew. and while curt's at the flak house bucky goes to london for drinks and dancing, bremen happens, bucky finds out from the paper and curt SOMEHOW* finds out in the flak house and realizes Oh Shit Bucky's Gonna Fucking Detonate and is like "i have to leave NOW" but the flak house doc is like "well i can't clear you for duty like this :/" and curt's like "fuck off yes you can" and the doc's like "i can't actually :/ but if you took the ground duties deal......." and curt is like "FINE WHATEVER I JUST HAVE TO GET BACK TO TA IMMEDIATELY"

and then when he gets there like TWO HOURS before bucky, bucky's like "we're gonna make 'em pay right" curt has to be like "..........they wouldn't let me come back unless i let them ground me." and then bucky goes down too. and everything's awful.

......but if curt's alive does bucky need to go to london? would gale send them both off base at the same time? IS THIS A CREDIBLE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES TO HAPPEN IN A FIC? DOES ANYONE CARE IF IT'S CREDIBLE AM I MAKING MYSELF CRAZY FOR NOTHING PLS WEIGH IN

9. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?

already answered with iafm but i do think i need to highlight dancing cheek to cheek (to cheek) as well because i literally reread it weekly, if not daily, for MONTHS after i posted it. which i never do. it usually takes me months or years to be able to reread my own fic and not pick out every little detail i would have done better or changed etc, but dctctc was—and is!—exactly what i wanted it to be. AND it's my most popular fic by far, so that's nice too 🥰

30. What would you like to write next year?

i wanna finish got them preachin' that we're hell-bound and i want to get the post-war stuff i have for dctctcverse done and posted too. i'd LIKE to get the piece that would fit between start taking your chances and the post-war vignettes written as well—it would cover the buckies going down and getting stalag'd, and curt dealing with being the one left behind at thorpe abbotts for that year and a half, so it'd be a lot of character work with guys i don't usually write, and i REALLY want to dig into curt+rosie especially. i also like the idea of curt and marge exchanging letters because gale [and bucky] can write to her from the stalag and she can get that info to curt so he doesn't go out of his goddamn mind. but a. i don't know if i have the skill to pull it off, and b. i don't think anyone but me is interested in a curt-centric no-buckies fic covering eighteen months of him being grounded 😅 so that might not end up happening. but we'll see!
