#so that the smaller kingdoms don't get wiped off the map

Among the 8 Kingdoms, which country has the most extreme political factionalism/partisanship?
Yerim-Mor Kingdom, hands down. They've got the Order of Love and Light and the Cult of the Crescent duking it out over there, it doesn't get more divisive than that! These two factions are so intertwined with the region's culture, they're both considered religions, ideologies, and political factions all in one.
Yerim-Mor also has two modern political factions that were born in response to the Gold River War. They are known as the Risers and the Retaliators.
Retaliators believe the Morites should fight back and reclaim their land from the Matuzan colonizers. Prince Jaq considers himself a Retaliator. They are tired of seeing their kingdom get kicked around by other powers and curse King Roz for "letting" it happen. They also want to fight back against the Cult of the Crescent by sending specialized troops to wipe the cult off the map once and for all.
The Retaliator party is criticized because they are often hateful towards Matuzans. Their policies can be described as aggressive, bigoted, radical, and impractical. Retaliators support invading weaker territories to strengthen their kingdom, such as independent tribes like Taybiya. They want the majority of taxes to go towards the military, police, and offensive campaigns.
Risers are the opposing party. King Roz himself is a Riser. They take a more pacifist approach, and believing fighting back against the Matuzans will just lead to a swift defeat or never-ending war. They see more value in diplomatic compromises and self-sufficiency to rebuild their kingdom, rather than raiding and plundering foreigners. They don't like to provoke the Cult of the Crescent, believing that each time they do, it only makes the cult stronger (since the cult gains strength from agony, death, and hatred). Instead they opt to do "damage control" whenever the cult invades. This means investing in strong infrastructure like walls and power grids that can't be destroyed as as easily, and civil services like hospitals and disaster bunkers, so they can recover more quickly when they're raided and become more resilient over time.
The Riser party is criticized for their soft approach to their enemies. Their policies can be described as naïve, cowardly, passive, and unambitious. Risers support investing in their own people and industries to strengthen their kingdom, rather than war. They want the majority of their taxes to go to infrastructure, education, and defensive campaigns.
Morites are heavily divided between these two parties currently, and it's pretty much an even split. But there are two smaller parties wedged between them, and those are the Unifiers and Deserters.
Unifiers believe the only way to restore the kingdom is to unify Risers and Retaliators, and combine both of their policies into one system. Exactly how to do that is debated among them though, and the infighting ironically stunts this party's growth.
Deserters believe it's too late and the kingdom is doomed no matter what. They think the best move is to stop wasting resources on it and just let it collapse so that something new can grow in its place. Many of them have already left the kingdom, are planning to, or wish they could.

Last three chapters. The rest is just outlines. I put too much thought into this.
Chapter 7: Whichever chapter player didn't pick first. Empire or Pirates.
Chapter 8: Blue Twink arrives at the neighboring country's capital with the Imperial army right behind them. They fortify the castle and try to explain to the royal family what happened only to find a different story has spread. That being Twink's dad had been assassinated and the Queen abducted, leaving the young Princess to order the Royal Mages to cast a barrier around the castle to prevent any further tragedy. The Empire sent reinforcements to help find the Queen and Prince, but were attacked by the Royal Knights. So the entire continent now thinks it was a coup, and since Blue Twink was leading the charge against the Empire, they think he's responsible. They don't have much time to think about it before their castle is under attack, leading to the second defense map. The prince of this kingdom enters, being a healer, his younger brother is a mage. They join Twink. Afterwards, depending if the King survives or not, they also get his trusted general. And find evidence of That One Cult via a mage that warped in and tried to nuke the king(which is how he can easily die). Afterwards, Twink resolves to find out what's going on, planning on visiting the other countries for any evidence while either the King or General remain behind to investigate things here. Old Mage learns from a minion that a mercenary company is making really big, really bloody waves and suggests getting them on their side. Old Mage rejects the idea, he can't trust a man that fights for gold. A man that fights for family? Sure!
Chapter 9: More murder shenanigans. With those two jobs, the mercenaries' reputation has skyrocketed, and they're now getting requests from all over. They end up traveling through Twink's home country, where they see the castle barrier. DMK remarks how they've seen one before, just on a much smaller scale. Their island is filled with talented mages, mages who like their privacy and cast a similar barrier to keep intruders out and protect their valued, and potential explosive, research safe. They run into the remains of the Royal Knights, who think they've been hired to wipe them out, and attack. They mercenaries decide "Eh, might as well. There's a bounty on a few of 'em." DMK and Healer Lady are conflicted about it, but suck it up because they don't want to die. After the fight an Imperial squad shows up and thanks them for the aid, promising compensation. They take them into the castle, where they meet Twink's little sister, she's been traumatized by the events. DMK tries to help out, but she panics because they remind her of the mages that killed her Dad. DMK feels bad, and starts telling her about their Dad and how, despite being a paranoid idiot, always protects their island, being the strongest mage. On the first playthrough it can be a sweet bonding moment, one the second... Not so much. Ends with them getting paid before heading to the second country that allied with That One Cult. Accompanied by a low ranking flier as an apology for getting them wrapped up in the Royal Knight Ambush.
The next ask is gonna be a quick summary of what happens after. Oh, should mention Twink starts out with 3 knights. Christmas Cavaliers + Armor Unit, loses the armor knight in the escape chapter, gains a thief and archer chapter 6. Then a mage, healer, and potentially general all at once chapter 8. DMK starts off with 4 mercenaries, a dancer, an axe user, an archer, and a cavalier. Gains a healer chapter 5, then a flier chapter 9. Oh, and can kill Twink's armor unit chapter 9 too. This is actually a lot, holy shit-
