im having trouble assigning one metric like age, weight, vitals, emotional state, etc. to memory usage because it's such a computer-y concept- maybe a combination of several of those things?

when you're talking about memory... uh... it's not really...

it's weird- UM- heRE's HOw RAM WORKS:

in general* there's two ways to handle data:

slow to access, but i can store a lot of data basically forever, or super fast, but i can only store a little, temporarily.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the second option. it's a physically different chip from the long-term-big-storage one, and it is designed to multitask many, many file accesses/calculations/other processes at once. video games, modeling/editing/animation software, and web browsers commonly eat up a lot of RAM (a LOT: check out Flash up there at the top easily munching 300 thousand K* for the simplest possible animation) *we are going to pretend it's that simple because trying to research this further made the later sections of RUSH-E start blasting in my head :) (further reading that looks correct probably about things that are and aren't the "active private working set" (column displayed by default in Task Manager -> Details and the animation))

(here's 3 windows of 18 tabs of OperaGX as an example)

so it's not really the runtime of the program ("im not sure if their memory usage is reliant on how long they've been existing..."), but what its function is, that foreshadows its required RAM.

"...or how. complex they were drawn." <- this one should work. since they're all separate programs, they each have to handle their own graphics, and would use a type of RAM to keep up their silky smooth framerates and procedural animations.

and there's the. THOUGHTS. SENTIENCE. that they all have, of course. i can only assume they use computer working memory (a bit more RAM) like humans use our working memory, and permanent save files stored elsewhere for long-term stuff, because there is no other reference for how a functioning person-program works.

that doesn't explain why orange's number is so different from RYGB... and even when a program doesn't display anything or have feelings the RAM usage shown in Task Manager changes a lot... but in IV it stays exactly the same throughout for every single program..... (i was about to be excited if trying to end TheSecondComing.exe spiked his metrics or something but nothing happens *sad nerd face*) .....so im pretty sure not much was intended on Alan's part by assigning any of these RAM usage values, except for cinematic reasons: giving TheSecondComing.exe much less than the StickFigure[Color].exes forces c!Alan to search for it, realize it has a weird name, and zoom in all dramatic on it for the Description reveal, all because it's further down the list. :P

but if i were forced to speculate anyway-

id guess that the StickFigure[Color].exes use more RAM because they come from a game. maybe they're carrying around the game scripts that are responsible for waiting for user inputs. TheSecondComing.exe was never designed to be controlled, so would lack user input listeners by default. why does RYGB have different individual RAM usages? heck if i know- the discrepancies are small enough i think it's just. normal fluctuations. since they're doing different stuff and are variations on the same program, they'd likely stay near each other in RAM requirements, but trade places with who's using the most constantly.

is that all? uhhhh well all i know about getting user input is it can get complicated. suppose it might be 13,516 K complicated.

the only other thing i thought of is TSC.exe could hide suspiciously high RAM usage by stealing from Flash's allocated space. but i dont know if that's a real thing, even for worms. -> if it is, the story goes that, like Minecraft performance can increase by allocating more RAM for it, Flash probably has a big chunk set aside for processing animation-related stuff. TSC.exe, related/attached to Flash, may have access to this chunk, using some of Flash's resources instead of clocking more usage for itself on the Task Manager. the remaining 3,012 K may therefore be impossible to hide or outsource, and would account for... idk, the minimum RAM required to maintain a sapient stick figure? <- again, fully riffing and playing pretend with my touys there though. NOT sure if any of that section is anything. but it would be neat \o/

it's not clear what the differences mean. it likely does not mean anything at all canonically (cinematic reasons). but i can confidently say that the Memory value probably corresponds to an individual stick figure's current: physical state (stored position, limb arrangements, collisions), display data (color, frame generation, frame display), emotional state (neutral vs intense), mental state (how hard they are thinking), extra features (game data, other attachments to parent programs), independence (is or isn't using memory through another program), and probably other things simultaneously.

i went and collected those numbers

however... it seems this metric we were discussing wasn't related to file size after all, it was memory usage.

i do not know enough about memory to immediately recognize the implications of this information but still cool to know and weird and interesting that they're so different 👉👉 handing to you for safekeeping

oh hey, i don’t mind answering this at all!! for us, we don’t have much of a headspace because we just can’t see it but it’s. kind of there in some form…? i mean sysmates that aren’t in front end up going somewhere! it doesn’t look like anything, closest i can describe it as is it’s the same black as when you shut your eyes. i think some plurals have fronting rooms with visual appearances, but we also don’t have that either. (relevant note: i did look around and apparently there’s exercises that help build some level of visualization but we only just learned about that now so we have zero experience and cannot reliably tell you if those would work or not. [i’d imagine it’d be individual case-by-case on if it helps, but i don’t have anything to back this up with so take what i say with many grains of salt. at least two handfuls.] so yeah.)

tacking on a ramble on how we see (not really) sysmates because it might be useful, we moreso Know what a sysmate’s appearance is compared to. seeing an apple. no apples here bud. picrews and related resources can help you Know what a headmate would look like since it’s an actual tangible reference you can see. (side-tacking on as i’m unsure if this is wanted information: we can tell who’s in front since majority of the time they will just state who they are, or their personality/roles/General Vibe is a dead giveaway for who it is. lord almighty mood boosters. love ‘em of course but sure damn well as hell know when they’re in front.)

oh and this isn’t to say that our notable absence of a headspace means we don’t have any in-sys interactions, it simply means it takes on a more… written actor’s script or 17776 chatlog-likeish form. or once again we just Know that the interaction happens even if we don’t see it. pretty confusing but that’s all i can say for it

pls take my advice with a grain (or more like a handful) of a salt cause 1) i’m only halfway through uni and 2) i’m just not a very future oriented person. that being said tho - and this is gonna sound corny af - the best burn-out/general feeling of dreadful alienation (when it comes to studying) prevention is just the right mindset. u gotta forget everything they’ve taught u about “work discipline” and “time management” and “sticking to ur routine” and just. let urself fall in love and become completely obsessed with the concept of gaining knowledge. be it from reading dull academic texts by dead french people or that guilty pleasure novel u have liked since you were seventeen. cause if you’re studying just for the sake of studying itself you WILL feel less pressure and stress to idk get good grades or whatever. the ironic (for lack of a better word) part is that you genuinely also will do better academically if you skip a few classes here and there to just sit in an overpriced cafe and have the most pretentious conversations known to man or go for a walk or literally just do nothing and stare out of the window (very important btw) instead of being hyperfocused on using every single moment in a “conventionally productive” way.

i’D HEARD IT WAS A REALLY BAD CHAPTER. this is a late response but MANGA READERS THAT ONE WEEK... we were all a mess (and no I haven’t watched but I’ve been recommended to do so quite a lot so I’ll hop on it soon!) 

Hmm!!!! I actually find a *shorter* first chapter is a good way to hook the reader without making them claw through too much writing to get a sense of what’s going on. Like, if I see a first chapter is reallllly long I sometimes have to do it to em, and scroll a bit to the middle to see what’s going on, and to double check that it’s a fic I want to take the time to read

1300 words isn’t too much though!!! Omg I’ve written much longer first chapters lmao. If you feel weird about it you can maybe find a good place to split that 1300 into two chapters?? But definitely make sure it’s split in a good place. It’s always good to leave the reader wanting more. If you can end on a short cliff hanger or a tense moment, that’s 10/10

That being said it would probably be wise to make the rest of the chapters of a similair average length. I’ve read fics that have shorter or longer chapters and it’s not bad (unless I’m grieving because it’s too short AND I REQUIRE MOREEE) but it might help you with actually planning your plot

I don’t really think Feitan is... so far removed from his emotions (Like Meruem) that he would really need to change that drastically for someone if he really liked them—that being said, he’s not going to change, either. If by change we mean he’s suddenly as enamored and endearing with them as Meruem is with Komugi... then I don’t think that’s going to happen regardless. We kinda see Feitan being a good and decently considerate comrade to the Troupe, so that would obviously extend to this girl/boy, maybe with a sliver of extra fondness if we’re talking romantically. But otherwise, Feitan seems like a “you get what you get” type of guy, that would inherently be *tender* with someone he liked, but not so tender that he’d have to have a whole philosophical/personality change

Ok now I’m confusing myself aksjdhfkjs. Basically:

Meruem had to like, undergo some existential shit to get where he was Komugi. I think Feitan already has the capacity to care for someone, even if his way of caring isn’t exactly rainbows and butterflies. So it’s not like he has to change. He just has to find the right person that doesn’t 1) get on his nerves and 2) get on his nerves enough that he’s gonna kill them

It’s been so long since I watched Psycho Pass or even looked into anything about it so pls take my thoughts with a grain of salt but:

I’m gonna say probably not? He’s one of those typical antags that have such strong ideals that... I don’t think even if the corrupt system was taken down he’d be entirely absolved of his ideals, or at the least, of the journey he’s taken in pursuit of those ideals. I don’t think a guy like him could ultimately settle down once the dust clears, and especially not with a lover or a family or anything like that. If he did want to lead a normal life it would probably be in seclusion

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

… My most disliked characters are also my favourites. Prowl and Solas are total fucking assholes who I long to go up to and go WHAP! with a rolled up newspaper, but I also adore them in my own twisted way, oops.

Hmm, maybe… Triss Merigold from the Witcher. There’s something about her that just grates; part of it is her taking advantage of Geralt’s amnesia to sleep with him when she knew he loved someone else, but given how shitty my faves are I can’t exactly claim moral highground here. I also hated her puppy-eyed “poor me love me love me pls pity me” guilt-tripping bullshit when like I said, she was in the wrong, sadlfkjalsdjfdsf.

I also came to really dislike Shani in the Hearts of Stone DLC. She was really, adorably sweet, but 1) part of this is CDPR’s fault because no matter how hard you try you cannot get out of romancing her and this pissed me the hell off, and 2) again with the guilt trips for not romancing her, omg. Shani acts personally offended and entitled if you try (keyword being “try”) to weasel out of a romance with her, and it creeps me the hell out, and she actively sulks whenever you take a platonic choice instead of a romantic one.

If it weren’t for this she’d be an adorable armful of puppies but it was incredibly creepy and if it were a dude doing it, the fandom would lose its shit.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

The Solavellan fandom is the grossest fandom I’ve ever been in. It is so Edward/Bella-y it makes me sick. I am so sick and tired of all the Lavellans who are super ass kicking women who then immediately lie down in fanfic so Solas can walk all over them. Plus, while Solas has his flaws (understatement of the century, I know) his reluctance to enter into a relationship is canonically well-written but in fanfic is almost always written in a way that’s very, VERY toxic. In other words, it’s very Edwardy. Again. Ew. Ewwwwww.

OK so my headcanon DA:I timeline, Trespasser never happens because in my headcanon DA:I, Sable Trevelyan is Inquisitor and @orodrethsgeek‘ and my OCs (Mahanon, Lahariel and Liriel) were companions who had their own party with Solas. Because Solas was inundated with so many Lavellans, he ended up never leaving because he’d become part of the group enough he couldn’t quite bring himself to.

But that’s not really answering the question, oops.

How about – Mass Effect 3 ending. Love interest/companion never got evacuated (WTF, Harby is right there); Starbrat was a near-death hallucination; Normandy never bailed. The pause after the console is activated is because the Crucible is charging up with power from the Citadel, but Admiral Hackett didn’t know it.

I’m going with the Indoctrination theory.

If you choose control/synthesis – Shepard falls for indoctrination, claws her way to the console, aborts the Crucible’s charging.

If you choose destroy – Shepard maintains control long enough that the console’s self destruct mechanism (developed especially to prevent this happening) is able to kick in and the Crucible is able to finish charging.

The last thing you see is the squadmates who disappeared after Shepard was injured limping through the rubble, as we see Shepard lying in the foreground. Low EMS – they die before they can reach her. Medium EMS – they reach her, they’re horrifically injured, but Shepard is dead. High EMS – they’re injured, but not as badly, and they find Shepard, panic a bit – but then realise that she’s alive.

Also in the slideshow after the end, we can see either Shepard’s funeral (she is given a space burial; pointed at darkspace so her corpse can beat up Reapers even in the afterlife), or see her lying weak in her hospital bed with her LI or Liara holding her hand.

If you choose control/synthesis – we see a slideshow about the failure of the Crucible, but if you have a high enough EMS then the slideshow is about how despite the massive setback and failure that it was, humanity and all sentient life endures. Eventually there’s a shot of the Reaper fleet departing, thinking their duty is done – only we see, in the foreground, a cluster of aliens and humans hiding, grinning in victory. An old Liara is among them.

You can’t defeat the Reapers conventionally. You can’t win conventionally.

But you’ll hear Hackett’s voice tell you that sometimes, survival itself is a big enough victory to be worth celebrating for generations to come, and that without Shepard’s hard work, they never would have been able to outlast or hide from the Reapers long enough to see them leave.

And next time, when the Reapers come again – this time, they’ll be ready, and this time, they will defeat them.
