Potentially unpopular opinion about a kid's tv show that ended in 2016:

Weirdmageddon was Ford's fault.

Seriously. Listen, when Mabel accidentally grabbed Dipper's bag, it had the wormhole thingy in it. Imagine you're Mabel. The Time Traveler - who you have no reason to seriously distrust at this point, mind you - asked for this unimportant gadget. It's in your twin brother's bag. If it was important and given to him on purpose or he'd stolen it, he would've told you. If it was given to him and he didn't tell you, it's probably not that important. And all signs point to it NOT being important, because you are both twelve years old. So you hand it over.

Dipper not telling Mabel is a small betrayal maybe, but like again, imagine you're Dipper, you are twelve years old, and an adult trusts you with a really important thing AND tells you not to tell your twin sister about it. So of course you don't.

FORD both knew what it was like to be a twin who trusted their twin (even if he hadn't been that in a long time) AND knew that the twins were fucking, again, twelve years old. He's the one who chose to give the gadget to Dipper, He's the one who chose to tell Dipper not to tell Mabel.
