Just in line with that last post (for my ESL followers who may not know this bc English is Homonym Hell and idk how common pasties are outside the UK):
A pasty (pronounced: pæsti) - as in pumpkin pasty in Harry Potter or a Cornish pasty - is a traditional Cornish food, which is basically a mix of meat and vegetables (usually beef with potatoes, onion and swede), fried up together and parcelled up in pastry (usually made with suet or lard) with a crimped edge:
This was basically a portable lunch/dinner for miners and field-workers. No need for crockery or cutlery! Just hold it by the crust and eat the middle bit. Fits in your pocket too and can last for a few days! Nowadays they’re still quite popular in the UK (especially in Cornwall - any time I’m in Cornwall I have to get a Cornish pasty!)
A pasty (pronounced: peɪ sti), on the other hand, is a nipple cover worn by burlesque dancers or underwear models (and also an adjective meaning paste-like).
Side note I said Homonym Hell and I meant it but technically these are homographs not homonyms bc they have the same spelling but not the same pronunciation!
