Ok normally I have a personal rule against posting about comics until I'm done with them. But can I just say that reading Chris Claremont's characterisation of Magneto with current events in Israel & Palestine being what they are is absolutely bonkers.

#like in a way he encapsulates a dream of zionist redemption that will never come to pass #because he's strongly paralleled with a hypothetical state of israel and not the reality that is based in colonialism #& Claremont's own opinions on what the flaws of israel really are come to the forefront in contrast with real world events #it would be interesting to try to continue this parallel into the modern day #but if we tried to be accurate. Magneto's character would not survive in one piece #like. his deep characterisation mirroring this specific political moment & specific understanding of politics is so interesting #but if he was used to signify an (imo) more accurate understanding of those same politics today #he would be unrecognisable #so in modern times he's divorced from his original context and set loose as his own character #which somehow feels. almost dishonest to me.#but as someone who likes magneto. i have to say I prefer it this way #even if it feels a bit like a lie?#haunted by claremont
