It is wild that I have heard the exact opposite two reasons we should translate 'abd Allah as servant or slave of God. So the people advocating for servant emphasize how being a servant of God is like a contractual agreement where you have rights over your master/boss, but the people advocating for slave emphasize how we're all slaves of God because we don't have a choice in the matter

#and then this complicates how we should translate 'abada and all it's related words #should it be worship or serve?#im not really for shying away from the words of the text being the words that they are #like Rabb definitely means Lord as much as we hate lords #so as much as we hate slavery i lean towards 'abd meaning slave
