Sexuality Headcanon:

this might be partly the tone of the story being more coming-of-age rather than romantically focused but tbh he seems kinda aroace. like, throws himself into his work, more focused on being a professional dad, than actually dating people

Gender Headcanon:

tbh he reads to me as one of those characters you could make a case for being nb, transmasc or transfemme and have it be believable. he's definitely trans tho, something about the way he uses his glasses to redefine the way people see his face is very Gender to me

okay i super wasn't into it when i started reading but i am now largely on the bandwagon of shipping him with olruggio, tho in a old-married-couple/queerplatonic/forever-coworkers kind of way that neither of them particularly defines other than the extreme mutual loyalty

i have a big soft spot for agott and obviously a lot of her character is supposed to be learning from/complementing coco, but i also think she should get some more emotional bonding time with qifrey. something something perfectionist who thinks she's only worth something if she's competant being shown unconditional love

uhhhh i honestly don't know who else is in a position to potentially be shipped with him? tbh i'd hear a case for it with any of the other adult characters, there seems some interesting potential there considering that he's been active and known in this community for a decent while

A random headcanon:

the reason he wears so much white instead of wearing wacky colours like a lot of his peers is to symbolise his amnesia and what he feels he lost of his identity at the time. also it's a flex cus that means he has a passive magical way of keeping them unstained with all the ink he and his students go through. also he's an art deco bitch and he just likes the vibes

General Opinion over said character:

i severely want that man's Gender. also generally pretty interested in his whole deal, i stopped reading at a point where it seemed like we might get a bit more of that but i like that he's broadly a decent person but has the potential to lose sight of those priorities when it comes to The Trauma, i think it's interesting.

💛 I absolutely feel nervous trying to get to know people. I'm friendly and nice, but I've had some bad experiences in the past. Oftentimes I'll worry that I'm annoying them, or that they're not actually interested in what I'm saying, or that they'll get too personal too fast and turn me into their therapist and trauma-dump on me, or I'll accidentally cross a boundary or say something stupid that will make them hate me, or that I'll get attached only for them to get bored of me and move on. Frankly, I frequently over-analyze my online interactions with people for both legitimate reasons and ones that are just in my head. It's awful lol.

💛Ok, so this is a doozy of a question(s) but they're all good ones so you're getting an in-depth answer.

How did writing Ikkaku come about for you?

Honestly, it started with me writing Ikkaku in my LawNa fanfic Welcome to the Heart Pirates, Nami-ya. She and Nami roomed together on the Polar Tang, so they interacted a lot, and I found I enjoyed fleshing out Ikkaku's personality and backstory the more I wrote her. She has so much potential, being the only woman on the ship, her job, her dynamic with Law, all of it. Then I discovered RP and decided that would be the best place to indulge in writing her, since I figured not many people would be all that interested in reading any fanfics about her. It helps that I had @cxnsolatio and @shambledsurgeon around to encourage me and gave me some great Laws to work with when I was first starting out.

Was there a canon moment (or NOT one, but you wished there was?) where you were just like “Oh yes, this needs to happen!”

See, the thing about Ikkaku is that there are barely any canon moments or information for me to work with. She's pretty much one degree away from being an OC, which is both difficult and fun. It's also made me feel hella protective of her and how she's viewed/portrayed/written. I both want Oda to give more information on her, and don't because I don't want to risk him saying something that contradicts my headcanons.

But there is one canon moment we got from the anime that I was over the moon about and said “Oh yes, this needs to happen!” and immediately added it to my portrayal. That's when we saw her with two swords in Wano. I didn't care that it contradicted my original headcanon about her using primarily a taser/baton. It was so cool and badass that I instantly accepted canon and found ways to marry it with my original headcanons, making it so she did have sword skills, but preferred to use non-lethal weapons until she hit the New World, where she realized she needed to take combat more seriously. Add in a time period where Zoro would have canonically traveled on the Tang with her, and it all works out beautifully and that crumb of canon is fully embraced. It's sad I don't see it more.

Same for the LawNa ship! I’ve read Ikkaku’s wonderful TEDTalk and your fics of course, but was there an epiphany “oh hey, this ship works!” moment for you?

Hoooooo boy. I won't keep you all day, but essentially what made me realize LawNa worked and had such potential was when I started analyzing the parallels between Law and Nami's backstories. They're both opposites and the same. Rescued by Marines who take a parental role? Check. Ostricized as a child? Check. Trained by a monstrous pirate that covets them for their skills and intelligence? Check. Betrayed by a Marine? Check. They would be able to understand each other in ways no one else really could. Add in the fact that Law could easily steal anything for her and Nami's an island of sanity and intelligence among the Straw Hats, and it immediately worked in my head.

008. ⸻ Please be aware that my portrayal of MK1!Bi-Han is not 100% canon-accurate. While I tried to make as little changes to the character's personality and backstory as possible, some aspects of him will be based on my own headcanons. The writing for him in MK1 is annoyingly inconsistent, contradicts itself on multiple occasions and sometimes even makes no sense at all, so I won't be adopting much of it into my portrayal. Do not expect me to write Bi-Han as a one-dimensional joke villain just because ❛ it's canon ❜ in the current timeline. If that's the portrayal you're looking for, you might want to look for someone else to write with. That said, this blog will feature different versions of Bi-Han from different timelines, so please do specify the timeline you'd prefer for the plot to be set in. For now I only write Bi-Han as Sub-Zero and I haven't decided on whether or not Noob Saibot will become a secondary muse on this blog yet, but it's well within the realm of possibilities.

009. ⸻ I do not condone hate, homophobia, racism or anything of the sorts and if I see someone partaking in such problematic behavior that will warrant an instant block.

010. ⸻ Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of writing romance plots, I don't have any preferred ships for Bi-Han and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I just don't see Bi-Han as someone who's particularly interested in romance or relationships. Depending on how his character develops in the current timeline, that might change in the future. If I do feel like our characters have chemistry, I won't be opposed to shipping, but I will let you know ahead that I do not write smut.

This... this is a trick question in this goddamn mess of a continuity. That said, I try my absolute best to make my portrayal coherent with the TFP show... even if said show contradicts itself at times. I take inspiration from the earlier parts (the thirteen primes section) of the Covenant of Primus for his origin backstory, but ignore the rest of the Covenant since it makes absolutely no sense with his characterization in... literally anything else. I’ve peeked at Exodus and it utterly sucks, but I’ve picked up bits and pieces of concepts that originated there just from spending time in the fandom. Aside from that... I spend a ton of time thinking about how to weave everything together in a way that both makes sense and makes for a character development arc.

Orion is genuinely kind, thoughtful, and introspective, very loving of the world around him.

He’s also a more complex character than is initially obvious - despite mostly being good sweet pure baby nerd he’s still flawed, with many of those flaws being his strengths put into the wrong situation. His strong morals can lead to dogmatism, and he’s only slightly less likely to deliver lectures than Optimus. His determination to be kind and help everyone can come off as unintentionally patronizing at times; he has a very “well-intentioned semi-privileged middle class” perspective that he’s not always self-aware of. However, he’s also willing to look at himself critically and learn/adapt. 

Essentially, he has many of the same traits as Optimus... just more or less apparent and/or developed. He's less confident than he eventually becomes through his future experience with leadership, wanting to change the world for the better but sometimes struggling to ground his plans in reality—something that continues to apply, but with reduced intensity and frequency over time. Idealistic cinnamon roll will eventually develop some realism, though never really quite enough. His selflessness remains a strength for now, but we know that eventually it will dip into martyristic tendencies.

NOW THE OPPOSITE! (list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?)

He could be potentially ‘boring’ in some senses. he’s the polite, considerate ‘next door’ type, who has for most of his life has just lived as a very average middle caste nobody. He’s more laid-back than he eventually becomes as optimus, but where others might get into trouble and shenanigans he’s most likely to just express concern. And since I try to keep him at least mostly ic, even with non-serious posts, this can derail ‘fun’ stuff and I fear dissuade some interaction.

While I try my best to give him realistic flaws that work with his character, he could still be seen as a little too good. very kind, understanding, forgiving, patient, considerate... almost endlessly so. A lot of my “he’s so good and pure” interpretation comes from using his having been the thirteenth prime as backstory, where he was pretty much the epitome of that, but some might not like the “he was a literal deity in a past life” idea for its “super special chosen one protagonist” elements.

His responsiveness to his environment can also be a downside. He’s not the type to start things; he just reacts and responds, standing his ground and finding himself when things get crazy around him. without megatronus, he may have eventually attempted political campaigning, but it wouldn’t have gotten very far. He needs to have more intense characters or events around him for major plots to really go places. Without those nothing would ever happen besides slice of life fluff, because he’s content with that kind of life.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?  

Honestly I just wanted to write op/ratch fhsjkdjsdh. But I also wanted to be able to interact with a variety of muses and so I chose Orion over Optimus because he’s not so emotionally closed off, which I figured would give more flexibility beyond the handful of characters op would reasonably have close personal and/or plot-important relationships with. Also, I can relate to him on a thought-process level which lets me get into his head easily, which additionally made him an appealing choice for my first real rp muse.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?  

I just love him so much, especially with the layers of his character I've built up around him. I don't always have inspiration to write or rp, but I think about him a lot. When I do find motivation to write, it's generally out of wanting to continue to work on developing him and just having a chance to express his characterization.

Depends on if their disagreement makes sense. Maybe I’ll give back my own reasoning for why I characterize the way I do. Maybe I’ll just agree to disagree, if their view is just totally different from mine. If they have valid points I’ll probably overthink it and spiral into self doubt. In all cases I’ll spill my thoughts to friends on discord.

......Orion in general or? ... fhsjkdhf...... Well if it was mine specifically that might hurt lol. But at the same time.... I doubt i’d agree with their takes either so... fair enough.
