night drive
Tumblr media
rating : mature
word count : 1.9k
themes : fluff, fwb, mutual pining, implied sex, drug use (alcohol and marijuana)
notes : originally from my ao3, thought i might post it here as well :) // you can kinda imagine this is an au where atsumu’s not doing volleyball in college because this dude would definitely take care of his body better than this as an athlete lmfao
miya 🤢 : “im driving over rn. be ready in 10?”
You grimaced slightly. Atsumu always did this; he’d text late at night, insisting to meet up without giving you much of a choice.
“bitch it’s so late and i literally just finished my assignment gimme a break”
Your reply was read and within a few seconds you received a reply;
miya 🤢 : “Sorry! I’m driving right now and will reply later.”
An annoyed groan escaped you at the use of the automatic reply function. You knew he definitely read the message. It was just like Tsumu to do this.
Throwing on a light cardigan and applying a bit of lip gloss, you grabbed your phone and a little tin box you always brought along on your drives with Atsumu. After stuffing them into the pockets of your sweatpants, you double checked your appearance in the full length mirror by the door. A spray of perfume was used and you slipped on a comfy pair of sneakers before exiting the flat to wait at the entrance of the building.
As promised, Atsumu arrived and you got into the passenger seat of the car. It was a little messy and you had to dust off some crumbs on the seat but it smelt just of him and the cologne he loved to use.
“You gotta stop doing this. Especially the impromptu texting.” you muttered, leaning back in the seat as he began driving.
“But ya always agree to it anyways. And as promised, I never do it on a Tuesday, Friday, or Sunday night, just like ya asked.” he hummed while giving the smirk you hated but loved. And as much as you hated to agree, he was right.
Six months ago, you two had been set up on a blind date with each other by some friends. Miya Atsumu, known as a notorious flirt all his life, and you, a regular student just looking for a change in life. The date itself didn’t go too well but the sex that followed was incredible and so you two had continued with this agreement for the past half year.
And here you were now; on a drive to someplace out of town, a packet of cigarettes to share in the cupholder while the little tin in your pocket contained something a little stronger to smoke. And not to forget the cooler in the backseat which most likely contained at least two bottles of beer.
“Fine… you’re right.” you sighed, crossing your arms as you kept your eyes on the road to try and guess where you two were driving.
“Hey, doll. Light me a cig, would ya?” Atsumu asked. As always, you pulled out the stick of tobacco from the packet and lit it before passing it to him. He took a long draw on it before rolling down the window to breathe it out.
“I don’t get how you’re still so fuckin’ handsome after all the ciggies and drinks you take.” you muttered while taking the cigarette from his hand to have your own draw of it.
“Same goes to you, doll.”
“... T-Thanks.” you muttered while reaching back to grab a beer from his cooler.
Neither of you saw it but there may have been the slightest flush on both of your cheeks.
After that, the drive was silent for half an hour, save for the soft R&B that played and the occasional humming from Atsumu. It was always like this, and somehow the two of you had grown to like it. As much as you complained over and over about it, you enjoyed it. Enjoyed the thrill, the sex, the debauchery, and strangely, the company.
“This place looks good.” his smooth voice hummed while turning into a forest. It was dark and a little scary with how cramped it felt with the towering trees, but your pride refused to let him know that. Plus, you knew you wouldn’t be thinking about it for much longer. He parked his car in a decent spot and unfastened his seatbelt before turning to face you who was just a little drowsy from the beer you had. “There’s a real pretty place I wanna go in there. But first…” Atsumu’s eyes looked darker than ever as he placed a hand on your thigh.
No words had to be said before lips were locked and soft moans were pulled from your lips. It only took a few more seconds before you were both scrambling into the backseat, with him pushing you down onto your back as he grinded his strong hips into your more delicate self. The kiss ensued, though at this point it was hard to call it a kiss as it seemed more like a battle between lips. He groaned softly as he felt your fingers entangle themselves in his blond locks.
The two of you pulled away for a second to gaze into each other’s eyes, dark with lust and passion.
“You taste like beer,” he chuckled while wiping off a little bit of saliva from the corner of your lips with his thumb. His touch was strangely soft, contrasting the way he had kissed you just seconds before.
“Yeah? You taste like nicotine.” you replied with a slight grin on your face. He replicated that smile, a rare sight from him, before resuming your kiss.
* ・ ゜゚ ・ * : . 。 . . 。 . : * • * : . 。 . . 。 . : * ・ ゜゚ ・ *
“Think you can walk over to that place I was talkin’ ‘bout?” Atsumu asked while pulling his sweatpants back up.
“Hmm… I don’t know, you were pretty rough tonight. You might have to carry me,” you laughed while putting your own clothes back on.
The man rolled his eyes, though there was the slightest hint of endearing in them as he took the blunt you had half finished smoking earlier and lit it himself, leaning back in the seat a bit.
As he did so, he glanced over at you - hair messy and strands stuck to your brow from the sweat, your clothes were in a disarray, and marks he had left on your skin covered your neck and collarbones. It gave him a weird feeling to look upon you, like a sort of strange pride. Whether it was because he had given you that messy look, or because he was just proud of you in general, he didn’t know.
“No way, I’m tired too,” Atsumu scoffed and redirected his gaze out of the open window for a second before looking at you. His eyes softened slightly at the pout on your lips before he sighed, “Fine, I’ll do it. Help carry the drinks.”
He opened the door and carefully carried you out in a princess carry before kicking the door shut and beginning to walk. His steps were a little uneven and shaky as he was just slightly intoxicated.
As he carried you, you looked up at him, eyes tracing his sharp jawline and his blond hair. There were bags under his eyes and the scent of sex and everything you two were consuming today mixed into the cologne he wore with his natural scent. Somehow, it was still attractive.
“You’re hot.” The words left you in a whisper without you even realising it. Atsumu looked down and nearly stopped walking for a moment before laughing as he continued to walk.
“You’ve got the weirdest fuckin’ timing. But yeah, I know that.” he replied before setting you down a little later.
“Where are we?” you raised a brow at him, still holding onto his arm.
“Just take a look, would ya?”
Tearing away your gaze from his handsome self to look at the sight before you, you gasped softly.
You stood near the edge of a cliff, just beyond the fence-like barrier, there were paddy fields and the occasional farmhouse providing a small source of light. It was a pretty normal sight, but upon closer inspection, you could see the reflection of the night’s stars in the water of the fields. The twinkling stars shone in pitch blackness, undeterred by the city lights you were used to. The moon looked brighter than ever too. A cool wind blew past your face, refreshing it after the stuffy feeling of having sex in Atsumu’s backseat, carrying the faint scent of spring on it.
“You know, I think being here would feel so much better if I didn’t have your cum in me.”
“Shut the fuck up and enjoy it. You asked for it anyways.”
Atsumu flicked your forehead lightly before pulling you closer to the edge and sitting down on a log, looking out over the fields and up at the sparkling sky.
“Happy 6 months.”
“Tsumu, I don’t think anyone celebrates a fuckbuddy anniversary.”
“Eh, whatever. Fuck and drink buddy.”
“...well uh, happy anniversary!”
“Happy anniversary, doll.”
The two of you looked at each other in silence for a few seconds, slightly dazed expressions on your faces before breaking out into giggles.
“Oh! Right!” you passed him a bottle of beer and opened your own with a spare coin in your pocket. “Cheers!” you clinked your bottle against his before drinking about a third of it.
“Cheers.” Atsumu replied and took his own large gulp of the drink.
You leaned against him the moment he moved the bottle away from his lips. His muscular arm, strengthened by years of playing volleyball made him rather comfortable to lean against. You hummed an unfamiliar tune before sighing in content.
Atsumu looked down at you resting against him. He could get used to this. He realised that lately he had been opting to stay the night after the fun you had together. Whether the time contained pillowtalk or it was just falling asleep in silence, he enjoyed it. Atsumu enjoyed being around you.
You enjoyed it too. People often claimed the blond was an ass but you knew better. There were nights when after you two had sex, the worries of the day or week would catch up to you and you’d end up crying to him. It was awkward at first but he slowly got used to it and eventually would comfort you with food he ordered or a few words of encouragement. (“Yeah it’s that bitch’s fault, go fuck her up.” was probably the most commonly said thing). As the nights passed, you found yourself wanting to spend more and more time with him.
“Hey… the sun’s coming up.” Atsumu said, making you finally look up from your silence. You hadn’t even realised you had fallen asleep on him for a bit.
As you narrowed your eyes and looked over the fields and fields of crops, you noticed he was right. The first rays of sunlight could be seen peeking over the landscape, bringing light to the sky.
“Woah… it’s pretty.” you whispered in awe.
Atsumu looked over and studied your features for a few seconds. The way your eyes sparkled and was lit by the early morning sunshine, the way your hair bounced just a little as the wind blew, and the way your feet tapped quietly on the dirt in tired excitement. He didn’t want to admit it but he realised he might’ve been falling for you for a while now.
“Thanks for bringing me here. I love it.” you grinned up at him. At the man who you hadn’t realised you had fallen for weeks ago.
“Yeah,” he replied, and in a voice just barely audible to the two of you, he whispered, “and I love you.”
This moment seemed like a perfect time to properly ask you to be his, but he figured he would just let you two enjoy it in silence for a little longer.

Galactica, Chapter 47 (Group Fic) - TheDane/Veronica
A/N: Click here if you’re looking for previous chapters (or here if you’d rather read on AO3). 💫
Last Chapter: Violet bombed her design pitch, and Adore and Pearl broke up.
This Chapter: Violet gets a lovely surprise, Aiden gets angrier, and Courtney comforts a friend.
***
“So,” Fame looked over at Raja, leaning back on the green velvet couch. “What do we think?”
Ivy had come by with lunch, two salad containers now sitting half empty on the table. They had received printouts from Ivy with the original couture sketches, whatever samples the designers had handed them, and polaroids of the garments as they looked today.
“About the couture looks?” Raja smiled. They were talking about the Spring collection, but Raja was also finalizing the dresses and roles for Monday’s holiday collection showroom show.
“Mmh,” Fame nodded, fiddling with her thumb, the edge of her manicure looking like it was cracking.
“Who do we want this on?” Raja held up one of Kiara’s holiday designs, the dress a lovely red. “I’m thinking blonde?”
“Good call.” Fame smiled, that particular dress without a doubt ending up in Chad Michaels’ closet. It always got Fame in the best of moods to watch Raja work, her friend at her very best when she was pulling final styles together, her eye for the entire picture unmatched.
“We still need a holiday dress for Raven,” Raja smiled, holding up her fiance's headshot. “Opening or close?”
“Who says she’s getting either?” Fame teased, a laugh leaving her when Raja shot her a look. “I want her closing. She does that very well. Makes everyone feel like spending money.”
“Mmh,” Raja smirked, a proud expression on her face, putting Raven with one of the prettiest dresses in the bunch. It was weirdly romantic how Raja always looked out for Raven, though Fame was sure she’d deny it if she was ever confronted directly.
“Okay,” Raja sat back on the couch, putting her elbow on the back, golden bracelets clacking on her wrist as she rested her head on her hand. “What’s the verdict for couture?”
“Hmm,” Fame chewed her lip, flicking through the folder on her lap. “I think Alexis should open. This sky-inspired piece of hers,” Fame pulled the sketch out, “is lovely.”
“I agree.” Raja nodded.  “And closing?”
There were several to choose from, but if Fame was being honest, there was only one that made sense for her.
“What about Violet’s?”
“Violet’s?” Raja sounded genuinely surprised, her eyes widening. “I thought you hated it?”
“What? Why?”
“Because you cut her off?”
“Raj, please,” Fame rolled her eyes. “She was talking my ear off, explaining all these incredibly unnecessary details when her work clearly spoke for itself. It’s very unbecoming to need that much reassurance of a job well done.” Fame pulled Violet’s dress from the folder, the flared sleeve and horizontal beads exactly what Fame wanted.
“Aha.”
“Good.” Fame put it down on the table, not noticing the small smile on Raja’s lips. “We’ll email everyone, and start looking for our exclusive models if we need anyone from overseas-” Fame paused. “Hold on. I have to call Courtney. This manicure is driving me absolutely crazy.”
***
It was always a rare relief when Fame decided to go into Raja’s office for a meeting rather than the other way around, and today was one of those lovely days, Ivy taking care of everything they needed and urging her to go take a real lunch break while she had the chance, that she’d call her back if necessary.
Which for Courtney meant a visit to her favorite department at Galactica: makeup. It was incredible how just walking into their suite made her whole body relax, the bright and sunny creative energy something she absolutely craved. Even the way people dressed was better down here: bright colors and fun patterns and hair every color in the rainbow. Alaska gave her a warm welcome as always, inviting her to sit down and eat with them, even sharing some of the Chinese food they’d ordered, which was a very nice addition to Courtney’s own sad little garden salad.
“You know,” Kim said, wiping her mouth with a napkin as she took in Courtney’s face, eyes squinted as if imagining the way the colors would look, “the Spring Rain palette would look amazing on you.”
“Omigod, it so would! Let’s try it out!” cried Amy, clapping her hands. Amy was the department’s coordinator, and Courtney hadn’t spoken to her much, but based on her electric-blue pigtails and ruffly Lolita dress, she knew she liked her.
“Whaddaya say, Court? Wanna be a canvas for a bit?” Alaska asked.
“Sure!”
Soon, Courtney was sitting in a director’s chair as Kim and Amy went to town on her face.
“Are your eyes green or blue?” Kim asked, tilting her chin this way and that in the bright light.
“Green. But I think in some lights they look blue.”
“Yeah, this cerulean is really picking that up.”
“Try adding a bit of the peacock,” Amy suggested.
“Yes! Good call!” Kim said, picking up the palette again.
Courtney closed her eyes, enjoying the feel of brushes being swiped against her skin, Kim’s movements both precise and certain. It was awhile before Courtney felt any urge to speak again, asking a question that had been on her mind for awhile.
“Um...do you guys know Bianca Del Rio?”
“No, I wish!” Kim chuckled. “She’s such a badass.”
“We have mutual friends. Why?” Alaska smiled curiously, and Courtney suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
“Well...I don’t know, I was just wondering what you think of her.”
“She’s everything I want to be when I grow up,” Amy piped up, swatching a few lip colors on Courtney’s arm. “She’s supposedly a real ball-buster, but my friend at Marie-Claire says she’s a decent boss. At least, people like working for her.”
“That’s cool,” Courtney said, biting her lip, cheeks growing hot under the lights as she worked up the nerve to ask what she really wanted to know. “What about, um...her...dating history. She’s gone out with a lot of girls, huh?”
“Yeah...she has,” Alaska replied slowly, exchanging a look with Kim as Amy stepped up to apply the chosen lipstick.
Kim waved a pair of lashes in the air, waiting for the glue to become tacky.
“The thing about Bianca is…” Alaska paused, seemed unsure of whether she should continue, before saying, “She’s not really into relationships. She just doesn’t ever seem to want more than flings. I mean, we’ve crossed paths dozens of times over the years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her with the same girl twice.”
“Oh.” Courtney nodded, settling back while Kim applied her lashes, wondering why her heart was pounding so fast.
“But that said, I mean...she does seem to treat people pretty well. You certainly never see girls crying about her in the tabloids, which I think says a lot, considering her...volume.”
“It helps that she’s apparently god-level in bed,” Amy giggled.
“Don’t trust the rumors,” Alaska warned.
“Well, I’ve heard it from someone first-hand, so…” Amy trailed off, giving a suggestive wink before reaching forward to finish the look with a delicate, shell-pink lip gloss, as Courtney tried her best not to squirm in her seat.
“Umm...anyway…” Alaska began awkwardly, when loud buzzing from the table interrupted. “Oh, Court, it’s Fame.”
Alaska handed her the phone, the usual seizing of Courtney’s stomach whenever her boss called telling her that the fun was over.
“Hello?”
“Courtney. I’m done with Raja, and my thumbnail is chipped.”
“Ye-”
Fame hung up before Courtney could respond, leaving her slightly puzzled.
“Thanks guys, this was super fun,” she said, sliding off the chair and grabbing her handbag, knowing she’d be expected to send a memo to design right away, along with apparently finding a manicurist to come to the office? Maybe?
“Wait!” Kim cried, holding up a lighted mirror for her to see the whole look.
“Wow.”
It was certainly a lot more colorful and dramatic than the makeup Courtney normally wore, and for a split second, she let herself imagine that she was backstage getting ready to perform, or on the set of some glamorous photo shoot, before pushing those silly fantasies down and giving Kim a grateful smile.
“Thanks, really, you guys are awesome,” Courtney said, internally lamenting the fact that she had to leave this colorful and fun office to go back to the stark white institutional tension upstairs.

“Oh...“ Violet couldn’t believe it.
She had clicked on the placement, hoping that her dress would be in there somewhere, Trixie’s promise that nothing would get scrapped completely not enough to reassure her, but there it was, in black and white.
Her first couture look for Galactica was closing the fucking Spring show.
“Holy shit-” Violet whispered, the information not sinking in at all.
She had been chosen, she had done well, she was making the company proud.
Violet was just about to panic, everything so overwhelming, when a second email ticked in.

Aiden closed the door to Trixie’s office firmly behind him, using all the strength in his body not to slam it with full force. He briefly imagined how good it would feel, to be able to make the walls vibrate with all of the rage he felt inside. Instead, he swallowed down all the bitterness and headed to his desk.
It had been an awful meeting, Trixie pulling his typical nice guy act to say that he was “concerned” about Aiden’s “attitude” and wanted to make sure that he was gonna be the right fit for the Galactica team long-term. That he wanted to see more collaboration with the other designers, and as a learning experience, he should be prepared on Monday to assist backstage for the Holiday collection show.
Assist.
Aiden was a designer, not a fucking tailor, not a fucking assistant, and this was going to be a new low. Not to mention that he was already in a foul mood, having seen the selection for the opening and closing Spring runway looks. That new little brat, the baby with no experience, not like Aiden, had been chosen to close the show.
He sat at his chair for almost a minute, saying nothing, just breathing deeply. Before Kiara asked, “Everything alright, dude?”
“Oh yeah. Everything is fucking great!” Aiden snapped, not bothering to stay and take in the stricken look on her face before getting up and marching to the restrooms, where he could at least lock himself in a stall and get a tiny minute of peace and quiet.
***
“Omigod, I’m so happy to see you!” Adore exclaimed, pulling Courtney inside her apartment, over to the sofa. “I stole a bunch of alcohol from Bianca before I left, so I’m well stocked! What do you want?”
“Gin and tonic?” Courtney asked, taking off her coat and settling down against the plush velvety purple fabric of Adore’s sofa.
“Coming right up, ma’am!” Adore exclaimed, walking over to the open kitchen to pour Courtney’s drink.
“So, you seem...how are you?” Courtney ventured, knowing that Adore was probably still in a fragile state, but not wanting to destroy what seemed like a decent mood.
“Well you know… It’s been shit. But I stayed with B all week and she’s like, kinda the best in this situation. She didn’t even gloat over being right.”
“Aww, that’s sweet. I’m glad she took care of you.”
Adore set Courtney’s glass down.
“Yeah, it was nice.”
There was a firm knock on the door, and Adore jumped up again, running to answer.
“Pizza’s here!”
“Pizza?”
“Yeah, I ordered ahead because I knew you’d be working late and you probably haven’t had a real meal all--thank you!” She closed the door, carrying the boxes and a bag over to the coffee table and setting it down with a smile.
It was such a sweet gesture, and Courtney was truly starving, so she almost felt bad reminding Adore, “Um...I’m still doing that vegan thing, remember?”
“Oh shit. I’m so sorry, I totally forgot, I-” Adore bit her lip, looking more distraught than was probably necessary, given the circumstances.
“It’s okay, I’ll just pull off the cheese, don’t worry!” Courtney reassured her.
“But you’ve told me like a billion times and I keep forgetting and I’m just the worst friend ever,” Adore sniffled. “I’m so sorry.”
“Baby, it’s okay, really.” Courtney crawled over to Adore, hugging her tightly.
“It’s not. I got you a kale caesar salad too because I know you used to like those but that’s not vegan either. God, what is wrong with my stupid brain?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all. You’re human, you make mistakes. It was still so nice of you to get all this.” Courtney pressed a kiss to her temple. “And you know what? I’ve been so strict for a few weeks, I think it’s okay to have one cheat day.”
“Are you sure? We can order Chinese or Thai if you want, or there’s-”
“I’m sure. I came here to try and cheer you up. Not to make you feel guilty.” Courtney snuggled against her, head on her shoulder.
“Okay. We can postmates some vegan gelato for dessert.”
“Perfect.”
Adore sighed, leaning her head against Courtney’s for a moment before sitting up and opening the food. Courtney accepted the plate from her, pulling the cheese off her pizza and shaking up the caesar salad - she decided that she could handle the dressing if she omitted the little container of parmesan.
They ate in silence for a few moments before Courtney looked up at Adore and asked, “Do you want my cheese?”
Adore’s eyes widened, looking down at her plate.
“Yes!”
She took it with such enthusiasm that it made Courtney laugh.
“Was this the plan all along?”
“I wish. I’m not that smart,” Adore told her.
“Yeah you are. You’re very smart. You’re the best.”
Adore held her gaze for a few moments, eyes welling up before the tears spilled down her cheeks. She covered her face, and Courtney shoved the plates aside, laying Adore’s head down in her lap.
Courtney stroked her hair for awhile, letting her cry, not saying anything, tears soaking into her skirt and tights. When her sniffling finally subsided, she asked, “So on a scale of 1 to 10...how much do we hate her?”
Adore rubbed her red, swollen eyes. “That’s the hardest part. I don’t really hate her at all. I mean, I asked her to be honest with me, and she was, and...it just wasn’t what I wanted to hear. So...no, I don’t hate her. It would be too exhausting to hate her.”
Courtney took her hand, holding it tight and solemnly saying, “Okay. Then I’ll hate her for you. So you don’t have to.”
Adore’s face crumbled as her tears began falling again.
“You’re the best friend in the world.”
“No, you are,” Courtney said with a grin. “Come on, let’s go wash your face and order that gelato!”
***
“I just can’t believe that my dress is going out on that runway, like, I was so sure Fame absolutely hated it, and-”
“You don’t need to chop the parsley that finely lovely eyes,” Sutan smiled, stirring the pasta puttanesca sauce they had made together. Sutan wasn’t necessarily the best cook in the world, neither he or Raja ever really picking up on their mothers love of spending time in the kitchen, but he could do a few dishes well, and after seeing Violet’s fridge, he had made it a mission to make sure his girlfriend had a minimum of culinary experience.
“Oh,” Violet paused, looking down at the cutting board. “Sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Sutan pressed a quick kiss against her temple, standing side by side in the kitchen surprisingly nice. “I know it’ll be just as amazing as your holiday dress.”
“Please,” Violet smiled, though Sutan could see on her face that she was pleased. He wasn’t going to buy anything at the show, but he was still coming along, both to test one of his newer models, but also because he wanted to see what Violet had created in action.
“I’m serious.”
The sauce was almost done, Violet pulling a face when she had seen him slice up the anchovies, but Sutan was pretty sure that she’d like the dish, if what she tended to gravitate towards could be used as any indication.
“Would you mind setting the table?”
“Not at all,” Violet smiled, putting the knife down, quickly washing her fingers, her jewelry left in the little bowl by the sink that Raja and sometimes Raven had used when they all lived together.
Sutan hadn’t actually noticed it until Violet had dumped her rings into it, the fact that it was there completely escaping his attention, interior design never something that had interested him.
When he had gotten married to Kahmora, he had moved from this apartment directly into her place and back again after their divorce, how she wanted things decorated not anything that had mattered to him in the short time they had been married.
He had never really lived with Jinkx, their relationship thankfully never moving any further than their disastrous engagement, but he was fairly certain that he wouldn’t have been asked about his preferences, shame momentarily curling in his belly at the thought of how unfair and terrible he had been to Jinkx.
“Sutan?” He was pulled out of his thoughts by Violet’s voice, the woman standing by his cabinet with a smile on her face. “Did you buy wine? To have with dinner?”
“I got us a bottle of red.”
“Okay,” Violet nodded, grabbing the wine glasses from the shelf. Juju used to complain when she came over, and had told both Raja and Sutan multiple times that the apartment was furnished for giants, but Violet never had trouble getting anything.
Sutan’s alarm went off, telling him it was time to drain the pasta, Violet handing him two plates so he could serve up their meal, both of them sitting down at the table.
“Do you like it?” Sutan smiled as he watched Violet taste the food, a thoughtful expression on her face as she chewed on it.
“It’s fine.”
“So you hate it?” Sutan lifted an eyebrow, a smirk on his face.
“No!” Violet seemed outraged. “Don’t put words in my mouth.” Violet kicked him under the table, smiling now. “It’s nice.”
“Sure,” Sutan laughed, Violet’s deadpan deliveries still something he was getting used to, her dry humor a lot more enjoyable than he had ever imagined. “Good.”
They ate for a while, chatting back and forth, Sutan refilling their glasses, Violet almost finished with her pasta when she put down her fork.
“I-” Violet looked at him, her teeth biting into her lip. “I’ve been thinking about Aspen?”
“Yes?”
“And I’d like to go.”
“Oh?” Sutan wasn’t aware that it had been something she had been considering, the fact that she was even thinking about turning it down not even crossing his mind.
“Well I’m glad.” Sutan smiled, hiding his confusion. “Mostly because I already booked your plane ticket.”
“Really?” Violet sounded genuinely surprised, almost as if she wasn’t sure if he had been serious about the offer.
“Really, not that I would have forced you to come.” Sutan tapped her foot under the table, Violet still such a mystery to him. “Raven on the other hand,” Sutan smiled. “That could have been a problem, since she’s bought matching everything for you two.”
“... What?”

Perhaps it’s not in like, the festive spirit or whatever, but Dex refuses to feel shame in reactivating and skimming through his array of dating apps the second his flight back to New York gets delayed. What else is he going to do? Read a book? Talk to the people around him? Not likely.
And like, he’s just maybe been feeling slightly more desperately alone than usual, after the holiday period spent with family. His parents were his parents and even his shithead brother had been lovey-dovey with his admittedly very nice girlfriend, not to even mention the bloodbath that was social media.
It’s only midday on New Year’s Eve, but Dex can sense in his old-man bones that it’s already ramping back up again after a few days of quiet after Christmas. Picturesque, loving content as far as a guy can scroll, most likely.
Not that Dex is bitter. He has friends, has love in his life and shit. He’s on his way home to show his face at Ford's party, after all. Except the plan is to prove he didn’t die en route, get smashed as efficiently as possible, then probably get kissed platonically by six people at midnight because his friends are like that, before ultimately heading home alone and passing out alone.
Dex is, in short, just acutely fucking aware of his singleness right now.
In the heart sense and in the dick sense, unfortunately. Whatever. He’s got a few boring hours stretching ahead of him; even if he doesn’t match with or message any of the many dudes he can swipe through, at least a good twenty percent of them are hot enough to pause for a whole second.
One guy, after some fifteen minutes of mindless, semi-horny swiping, warrants more time than that.
He has a tattoo. It wraps around his very nice bicep and Dex’s mouth goes dry. His name is Derek, and he has a couple shirtless pics, a hockey one, a few ones Dex figures are trying to convey culture – museums and art and like, sweeping landscapes – and ends it with a meme.
Which is like. It’s kind of funny, and this dude is super hot, but really? But also he is so, so hot. In like, a hot way, and in a beautiful way, so Dex can at least entertain the idea of their boning. Then Dex reads Derek’s bio:
‘what i want is what i’ve always wanted. what i want is to be changed.’ im pretty and my meat is huge. good vibez only, no haters ✌️
Dex doesn’t smile a little. He doesn’t. He definitely just rolls his eyes hard and swipes left. That quote. He doesn’t have the patience, not even for someone that looks like that.
“Ouch,” says a voice from over his shoulder. “Hard no for that one?”
Because of course, because his flight is delayed and the drive to the airport had been shit anyway, because of course – it’s the dude. He’s not just nearby, he’s literally right there. Derek. Sitting in the row of seats backed up against Dex’s, twisted round to watch over Dex’s shoulder in a flagrant disregard of like, normal fucking behaviour, and somehow even hotter in the gross airport lighting. He’s doing some kind of smirk thing that Dex isn’t into at all.
His voice is like– It’s nice. Dude has a nice voice.
And of course, instinctively, result of being a grumpy fuck since birth and years in the big city, Dex’s immediate response is, “Fuck off, asshole.” Then, back up instinct, result of his mom’s loving care and years in a small town, he adds, “Shit, sorry, that was- I didn’t mean- um.”
Derek’s smirk solidifies. Something natural rather than an expression he’s holding there, not that Dex would’ve recognised it wasn’t completely assured and legit until then. “No worries, man. It’s chill. Sexy pic with the lobster, though.”
-
Nursey absolutely, completely, fucking two thousand percent should not have said anything. He’d almost be surprised at himself, watching this whole thing happen out of body, except this is the least surprising behaviour from him ever. Like he’s ever been able to let a minor hurt pass without poking at it until it’s something unbearable and he has to nope out like that’d been his plan all along.
Whatever. It’s chill. He’s got this. They’re in an airport, so Nursey can nope out whenever he likes, and more effectively than usual. It’s going to be fun.
“Excuse me?” says Will.
Will, who Nursey had first noticed for his massive ears and exhausted vibes, then absently clocked as attractive, and then clocked some minutes later as the same dude whose profile he’d just come across. Will who Nursey had just swiped right on, though not before screencapping his profile and sending it to Chowder, captioned ‘a straight???’
Like. Okay. Nursey doesn’t want to stereotype, or whatever, tries really hard not to, but when a dude sees a bio like I'm Will. I like hockey and lobster-fishing and good beer. We should get to know each other? He's not proud of it but questions start arising.
“Sexy pic with the lobster,” Nursey repeats. It had been, honestly, in a kind of weird display-of-masculinity way that Nursey doesn’t want to unpack right then but definitely would with some weed.
“Thank you?” says Will. A pause. “Are you making fun of me?”
“No,” Nursey replies honestly. But that feels like some kind of defeat, because this guy is cute and freckly and like, certainly has hands, but he also just dismissed Nursey’s careful construction of self while Nursey watched, so he continues, “I mean, I’m a vegetarian? So I kind of do disagree with the concept of trapping and killing an innocent animal for your own consumption, or whatever.”
Will snorts. “Of course.”
Nursey’s stomach sinks. He should’ve known. Pretty eyes or not, it wasn’t going to be fun with a guy who is a self-proclaimed hockey and good beer fan. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing,” says Will.
Nursey doesn’t want to get into a full-blown argument in the middle of an airport, so he lets it drop. But he also doesn’t want to sit here in awkward silence or have to get up and haul all his shit over to somewhere else. “So, while we're both sitting here, any pointers for improvement?” he asks instead.
“What?”
“For my profile, dude. Gotta up my game, clearly.”
"Why?"
"Self-improvement is my new year's resolution," Nursey replies easily, only half-lying; it's been his new year's resolution for like, five years straight, whatever. "I'll start: you need a better bio, or just scrap the whole thing. You're just about cute enough to pull it off, but it does you zero favours, dude. Bland as fuck."
Will goes pale, then red, then says, "What the fuck? Who asked?" Nursey waits, unsure if he should keep pushing or if he's maybe crossed a line, and after a long moment or two Will sighs. “Okay, fine, I hate doing description things and I'm shit at it. But yours also sucks. You could try with less of the pretentious quote shit, for one thing.”
“Less Mary Szybist?” Nursey asks, only having to up his aghastness a little. “Mine does not suck. I’m trying to convey an inner sensitivity, bro. Poetry is a window to the soul.”
Will frowns. “I thought that was eyes.”
His frown is cute. Shit. “First, a little thing called poetic license? Second, you said I was pretentious.”
“It’s Shakespeare,” Will says, unimpressed. “You didn’t do Shakespeare in high school?”
“Sure,” Nursey agrees, “but clearly it didn’t stick,” which is a lie. “Haiku, though. That’s the good shit.”
“What?”
“In my bio. It’s a haiku, five-seven-five syllables?”
Will visibly goes through Nursey’s bio, mouthing out the words, which, hey. It left an impression, at least. “That’s not five-seven-five,” he says.
“I’m pretty and my / meat is huge. Chill vibez only / no haters. Peace sign,” Nursey recites easily, clapping the syllables out like they taught in elementary school.
Will snorts out a laugh and can’t quite seem to reign his face back into looking unimpressed. Nursey smiles back and can’t quite reign that in either. The bitterness from watching Will swipe past him seeps almost entirely away at last, Nursey finally able to unfold his arm from around his stomach; Will’s shoulders come down from around his ears, too.
“Um. I did actually like your photos,” he says after a moment, almost hesitant, those same ears flaming. “Like, a lot."
"Ditto," says Nursey, as casual as he can. Will is pretty great in pics, if unfortunately blind to his angles, and even better plus assholeish irl, which is a beauty of a combination.
"But you’re cheating your syllables with that peace sign bit, pretty sure,” Will adds.
Nursey rolls his eyes, ignores the warm glow. Not a straight, definitely. And Will thinks his pics are good, at least, which is a success of sorts. He doesn't know what flight Will is getting, but his own back to NYC has been delayed by a few hours, so maybe he should try and shoot his shot one last time.
He chucks his stuff over to Will's side of the chair-row, then hauls himself over. Pulls his sweater back down. Fuck this twisting around in his seat nonsense.
Will blinks, face pink. "Hi," he says, a little hoarse.
“I think you mean bye. I said no haters, didn't I?”
Will laughs again, full and warm this time. “Fuck off, asshole,” he says, and this time Nursey laughs with him.

She’s a Monster Pt. 5
Choi Youngjae X Reader Ft. Im Jaebum/JB
Part 1 . Part 2 . Part 3 . Part 4 .
Tumblr media
“I'm so excited!” She said squeezing Youngjae’s arm as they walked together through Cheonggyecheon Plaza.
He laughed lightly, “What are you so excited about, jagiya?”
“All of this. It's our first date actually doing something instead of just being at my place or your place or hidden in a closet somewhere... and it's a double date, and I get to meet Hyesun. Finally! After months of stories I get to meet the legend for myself.”
They were running a little late even though when Youngjae arrived to pick her up she had been ready and waiting to leave. When she told him her roommate was out he had to take advantage of it. Which meant that she had to get redressed and redo her hair and makeup, and Youngjae had to clean the lipstick off his neck, but they were sure JB wouldn’t mind.
The plaza was packed with people. Full families with kids that were running around wildly. Pods of friends laughing and joking around. And couples, so many couples, kissing and taking pictures around the lantern displays along the stream.
“I’m sorry.” Youngjae said quietly kissing her cheek.
“What for?” she asked lifting up his favorite big black hat she had stolen from him to wear.
“For being a bad boyfriend. For not taking you out on real dates like you deserve.”
“Youngjae, no, that’s not what I meant.” She said stopping him. “I love our relationship. I love every second I get to spend with you no matter how we spend it. I wasn’t complaining.”
He smiled and kissed her again, a long sweet kiss on the lips that she savored, “I know you weren’t, but I’m still sorry. You deserve to be taken out on the town, shown off. I’m proud to be with you. I just worry about you having to be caught up in all of it once people find out.”
“Don’t worry. As long as I’m with you, I’m happy. I’m good.” she assured him and tucked her arm under his once more.
“Ooh, hold this?” he asked handing her his camera before pulling his phone from his pocket. “Hey. We’re close. Just passed under Gwantong. Okay, bye.”
“JB?” she asked as they kept walking. Youngjae nodded sticking his phone back in his pocket and taking the camera from her.
“They already bought the lanterns.”
It wasn’t much longer at all until they found JB and Hyesun sitting on the steps near the stream. When JB spotted them he got up quickly and raised his eyebrows at Youngjae. She watched curiously as they seemed to speak using only facial expressions. Finally, after JB had handed Youngjae their two lanterns, he turned to her and smiled.
“Hey, Y/N. Good to see you.” he shoved his hands in his pockets.
She wanted to give him a hug like she normally would but something told her it was for the best if she didn’t. Hyesun stood up and sighed heavily before shoving her arm under JB’s and glaring at y/n.
“JB, introduce us.” she hissed.
“Uh, Y/N this Hyesun. Hyesun, this is Youngjae’s girlfriend, y/n.”
“JB failed to mention, but I’m his girlfriend.”
She nodded politely, “JB has actually told me all about you.” Y/N wasn’t sure how it was possible but Hyesun glared at her even harder. “Just like really good things, in like a mutual setting where other people were also around…”
Youngjae snorted and wrapped his arms around her pulling her completely into his oversized jacket. He dipped his head to hers and whispered, “Don’t be so scared. She can smell your fear.”
JB sighed, “We should go find a spot for our lanterns.”
“Yeah, since we’ve already been waiting around for a half hour, maybe we could actually do something.” Hyesun spit. JB looked toward the stream and rolled his eyes.
“There were still a lot of empty spaces back up this way,” y/n offered and turned quickly, pulling Youngjae along with her.
The four of them found an empty spot to hang their lanterns and JB handed out markers so they could write their messages. He mentally kicked himself for letting his fingers linger too long on Y/N’s when he passed her a marker, knowing that Hyesun would have noticed even when Y/N clearly wasn’t phased by the contact.
He watched with a pang of jealously as she and Youngjae flirted, trying to hide their messages from each other, sharing quick kisses, being generally happy together. Hyesun kept her eye over his shoulder as he wrote his message. She had been angry when he told her that that Youngjae had texted him that they would be late. She had been angry at the children that had accidentally bumped her purse. She was just angry, she was angry at everything and he could feel it tearing him down. He was finding it hard tonight to remember the last time he felt in love with her. He was embarrassed by how she was acting, furious about how rude she was being to Y/N, but he didn’t want to fight. Not here, not now, but definitely later.
He watched as Youngjae tickled her sides as she tried to hang her lantern. He eyed the drawing she’d done of them kissing and read her wish for health and happiness in their relationship. Youngjae’s lantern was just as cute and he felt sick. He hung his lantern up quickly and shoved his hands in his pocket. Youngjae and Y/N offered to go and get them snacks and warm drinks from one of the many vendors up on the street and he knew they were grateful for the chance to be away from Hyesun, he wished he could go with them.
“Do you have to be like that?” he asked angrily as soon as Youngjae and Y/N were out of earshot.
“Do you have to make it so obvious you’re in love with her?” Hyesun retorted.
“I’m…” JB hesitated, “I’m not. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You couldn’t be staring at her any harder, Jaebum. You used to look at me like that, with longing. Have you told your best friend?”
“Told him what? That you’ve lost your mind?”
“That you’re in love with his girlfriend. What’s your plan JB? Are you going to steal her away, right under his nose? It would be easy, she clearly likes you too.” Hyesun crossed her arms over her chest.
“I’m not going to steal her…god, you’re being crazy.” He shook his head, “I don’t want to do this Hyesun, not here, but I can’t… I can’t be with you anymore.”
“Trust me, I can’t be with you either.” She grabbed his lantern and pulled it down from the wall and faced it towards him. “If you’re not in love with her, why’d you put her name on your lantern?”
He grabbed the paper lantern as Hyesun shoved it in his hands and watched her stomp away. Looking around he quickly crumpled the delicate paper lantern and shoved it in his pocket. His heart was pounding. How had he not realized that he’d written her name?
They sat cuddled together under a blanket as the cool autumn air nipped at them. The mood pretty somber as JB told her what had happened at the festival when they’d gone away and come back to find him alone. He left out several key points. She sat quietly and contemplative as she always did when he vented. When he was done speaking he waited for her to collect her thoughts.
“You guys were together for a long time, so I can understand why you might feel like you owe her, but you don’t. I can understand, being with someone as handsome and talented as you that she’d be protective and jealous even, but the way she behaved was… it was something else..” She said thoughtfully. “Don't feel like if it’s really over between you two that it means you've wasted your time. You should think of it as an experience, as many lessons learned.”
“Say it’s really over and I don’t try to contact her... ” he played with the idea, “What if it's a mistake? Maybe she's the one and this is just a rough patch.”
“Can you really live without ever making mistakes?” She asked genuinely. He hummed in response. “From what you've told me over the past few months Jaebeom, it isn't a rough patch. You deserve real happiness, whether it's alone or with someone else. Maybe it's too bold to say, but, if she doesn't make you happy she doesn't deserve to be with you.”
“I don't like to be alone though.” He admitted.
She chuckled, “You won't be alone. You'll have me.”
He wasn't sure why but as he looked over at her JB’s heart began to race. “I will?”
“Of course!” She smiled, her eyes twinkling in the moonlight like stars. “And Youngjae, and Jackson, and Mark, and Bambam, and Gyeomie, and Jinyoung and Coco…You could never be alone JB, you are very loved.”
He smiled weakly. “We should go back inside. I don't want you to get sick, and Youngjae will be wondering where you are.”
She nodded in agreement and leaned over pressing her lips against his cheek, “Everything will work out.”
He watched her hop up off the seat and shiver slightly before running inside. The absence of her warmth left him immediately uncomfortable. Looking out over the city lights he realized wasn't sure what he was thinking or feeling anymore, but he worried that he might really be in love with her.
“You’re freezing.” Youngjae murmured against her shoulder when she slipped back into bed with him. “Were you outside with JB again?”
“Yeah,” she said absentmindedly, scooting herself closer to him so that her backside was flush against his front and she could fully enjoy his warmth. “He wanted to talk about Hyesun. I think they’ve really broken up this time.”
“He confides in you a lot.” Youngjae ran his warm hand over her chilled arms.
“If it makes you uncomfortable…”
“No. I'm glad he has someone outside of the guys.” He kissed the back of her neck. “You're still so cold. I don't want you to get sick.”
She rolled her hips so that her butt pressed into his lap causing him to groan. “So stop talking and warm me up.”
