Sky Fish
So. Haven't posted in a while. But I have knowledge I NEED to share with the world. I can't think of a funny way to portray it so... -serves it up on a platter-
The Sky Fish familiar that Marcille makes in episode 22 / chapter 48.
This is "real".
This is the cryptid or UMA (read: yu-ma or Unidentified Mysterial Animals) known in Japan as the Sky Fish, and in English as a flying rod or rod.
So like, this is actually a thing. Japanese TV loves UFOs and Cryptids (or maybe I'm biased because my Beetle is the one who's obsessed but.) the timing for This Specfic Cryptid's popularity and when Ryoko Kui was writing/starting out with this story, are around the same time. This specific UMA had such an impact on me when i first saw it in TV 10ish years ago, that I was so excited about its appearance, and then confused and amused in equal measure when my Capybara had no idea what I was talking about.
AND THE TV SHOW I WATCHED! the original episode clip is still on youtube, although lacking English subtitles (although you can translate the auto generated subtitles to English if you want to try).
youtube
Basically, Jose Escamilla of Roswell, New Mexico (and several other sources around middle and South America) caught this UMA/Cryptid on video in 90s? But the story and other people catching them on video and in pictures still pop up, but with improved phone cameras, the proof that it's likely just bugs flying at just the right frame rate to make a long cat style image is more prevalent lol.
But this was/is a super popular UMA in Japan. Like, there are gacha minis, and figures, cryptid books, and other anime featuring these lil guys.
JoJo's bizarre adventures Stone Ocean's Sky High stand, Skytails from Zelda, and a Kemono Friend are some examples.
I want a lil sky fish figurine now...
But yea...
WOO SKY FISH CRYPTIDS FTW

@unexpectedstormy my reply to your comment got really really long. Here's the rest lol
There are soooo many monsters in the Legend of Zelda series. Even if we ignore the non-canon ones (of which there are many), the list is extensive. To illustrate:
Most of the monsters in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link are unique to that game, including: aches, aneru, arurodas, bago-bago, bits, deelers, fokka, geru, parutamu, bots, fokkeru, girubokku, magos, mau, megmats, myu, ras, and wosu. Boons, doomknockers, daira, moas, geldarms, guma, lowders, and mobies are found only in AoL and non-canon sources. In addition to all of these, AoL includes the more traditional octoroks, moblins, stalfos, tektites, and bubbles. That is one game.
Some monsters I think would be interesting to see in the Linked Universe comic and/or in fics:
Rope (many) - very fast venomous snake that comes straight for you
Armos (many) - stone soldier that comes to life and attacks you; many games also have a variant that is just a statue; tons of variation in appearance between games
Geru (AoL) - lizard enemy armed with a forked spear or mace and very skilled with a shield; some of them chuck rocks at you from out of reach; these guys are so hard to fight
Skytail (SS) - kind of looks like a deep firefly, but larger and more vicious; if they're in Sky's world, could add some mortal peril to an otherwise calm flight
Guma (AoL) - bull that leaps into the air and throws an infinite supply of hammers (ball and chains)
Mau (AoL) - floating panther heads that spit balls of energy
Bari (many) - floating jellyfish that can electrocute you
Stalhound (TP) - zombie dogs that crawl out of the ground at night
There's so many, y'all. I can't wait to see what the Links find in that dungeon. Feel free to add on!
#nothing wrong with sticking with the common monsters btw. they're popular for good reason#legend of zelda#linked universe#links meet au#< in case this is useful info to other AUs#blue speaks#analysis

LU Boys Headcanons
Hey! I have some headcanons that I'd like to share, and most of these will make, at the very least, brief appearances in my stories. Some of the boys have more than others, but oh well.
To start us off, we have Wind!
-He certainly looks small and sweet, but he's a terror when he's angry.
-He's super protective of those he claims as family.
-The wind reacts to his emotions and feelings without prompting. It has a mind of its own when it comes to its champion.
-His hair is bleached blonde from all of the time he spends out on the ocean (He despises the cap of the hero's clothes).
-He can dual wield! I feel like this would be very fitting for him (This has made an appearance in ATS as well :) ).
-Full name is Link Aalto (Aalto is wave of water in Finnish)
More under the cut!
Wild
-He's super good with animals. Small, large, feral, domesticated, anything really. He understands them to a certain extent, and they generally understand him as well.
Legend
-He's one of the more graceful ones in the group, but the most graceful.
-Doesn't really have an issue with Hylia, and is a fan of Din and Nayru (During the Oracle of Ages/Seasons, he made good friends with them both, imo).
Time
*shrugs* nothing yet
Hyrule
*shrugs* nothing yet here either
Twilight
-Country accent 100%. When they're in his Hyrule, it gets so crazy thick and the others tease him relentlessly about it.
-Loves pumpkins. As Ordons' main crop, he's a huge fan of all things pumpkin, and he and Sky trade recipes.
-Best friends with Dusk, evolved into a relationship.
-Loves to gossip with Warriors.
Four
-Speaks the same dialect of Hylian that Sky does (Ancient Hylian), so they tend to gravitate to each other when they get frustrated or overwhelmed.
-Has a bit of an accent compared to the others, but its nowhere near as prominent as Sky's.
Sky
-He's the most graceful in the group. His fighting looks very similar to dancing in the sense that its fluid and smooth.
-He dances with Fi. During his quest and once Sun was stuck in the crystal, Fi would occasionally force him to slow down and stop pushing himself so hard. They would dance together, Fi teaching Sky some of her favorite dances, and Sky teaching her Skyloftian dances in return. They both loved it.
-Sky hasn't danced since Fi returned to the Sword.
-Sky has a prominent accent. In my head, it sounds kind of like Fi when she speaks in-game, melodious, smooth, and ancient.
-His ears are very expressive. They move with his expressions. Skyloftians also have much better hearing than other Hylians. This comes from spending so much time on their Loftwings, and the necessity of hearing others flying with them, and needing to be aware of Skytails.
-Sky will startle and/or spook easily, but he doesn't get genuinely terrified very often at all. There's only a few things that will truly scare him.
-He's really good with anything with wings, and cats. Since Remlits don't exist outside of his era, this translates over to cats imo.
-Uses a lot of statistics and probabilities. This carries over from Fi, and he's aware that he does it, but tries not to most of the time (Sun thinks its adorable).
-His anger is quiet. He doesn't typically yell, but he gives off an entirely different vibe when he's angry. Depending on the situation, he can sometimes be quick to frustration, but he'd never take it out on anyone except himself.
-Speaking of, he feels like most things are his fault. Huge guilt complex. Sun and Groose hate that he feels this way, but despite their best efforts, he finds a way to blame himself for most things. :(
-He's a silent crier. He's always been on the quieter end, and he doesn't like to bother people when he's overwhelmed or upset.
-He's very light. I feel like most of Sky's 'bulk' comes from his layers. Living in the sky, the nights must be frigid, and the wind certainly doesn't do anything to help. So, he wears multiple layers, all Skyloftians do. I fee like Skyloftians might have a different bone structure than other Hylians, especially as the Loftwings carry them around, and can catch them out of freefall so easily.
Warriors
-Loves pumpkin soup. Had some when he was on Skyloft in the War of Eras, and has wanted more ever since.
-He knows Fi fairly well, having spent so much time with her during the war. He and Sky sometimes talk about her for hours at a time.
-Gossips with Twilight.
-He can understand a good deal of Ancient Hylian, but not as much or as well as Four can.
-He struggles on and off with speaking. Proxi hangs around him more often than not, and she'll help out when he needs it.
Good grief, I didn't realize how much typing this would be. But regardless, here you have it! Sky's got more than the others because I love him and I have a lot of Feelings about him. I know that Time and Hyrule have nothing, but I don't know their characters very well, so I just don't know what to think about them. Lol.
Have a good day!

Not entirely sure why but I have a feeling you might like this-
No pressure to read it if you're busy or don't want to !!
DEAR HYLIA ABOVE THAT WAS A FUCKIN RIDE.
BESTIE, YOU WERE RIGHT. THAT ENTIRE THING IS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A FIC LIKE THIS FOREVER AND YOU JUST HAPPEN TO DROP IT RIGHT INTO MY HANDS? THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! okay imma ramble about it now, its gonna be incoherent, but it's under the cut.
the amount of times i texted the words "sky is having a bad time" in all caps to my gf is insane. i am a fan of like, age-regression-adjacent fics (gestures to my own fic, Tiny Bunny) and like, sky is my sweet little angel who can do no wrong (which means i find any and every opportunity to make him feel the fandom's wrath of angst)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i'm so angry i'm not on my main laptop so i can't log in and leave one hell of a comment on it omfg.
like? the amount of times i just wanna reach into the words and hold the poor little guy?
also: spoilers now:
i personally love the head canon of sky having witnessed someone (his dad, groose's dad, etc) passing in front of him. it's just one of those headcanons that i keep on my special shelf. (along with chubby sky and poly sky, and his various other traumas, but that's another story for another day)
his dad being taken out by one of those skytails? b r u t a l. those fucks annoy the shit out of me whenever i'm playing. poor crimson has to go as fast as he can to stay away from those fuckers.
three years later his mom passing? also rough. judging by context, sky was four (?) when his dad was taken from him, meaning he would have been seven with no family left! augh! that ads such depth to losing zelda in his game! his other metaphorical family being lost too??? augh, so good!!
also: father time for the win!! "are you a dad?" well, honey, that depends, in what context? time is such a dad i love him.
also also: wild being great with kids i think it canon to his game. he always gets the sweetest dialogue options when he speaks with kids.
i should probably shut up because my hands are cramping now, but like, aaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
i immediately forgot what i was gonna say...
uh, fic good!! littol sky good!! 1000000000/10 read it NOW./lh
this has filled me with such inspiration thank you so much for sending me this <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
i hope sky can find it in himself to trust himself.
(i'm sobbing this was great <3)

If you could change one stereotypical role for a LU boy in a story, what would it be and why?
Totally not inspired by my *who else would be an interesting leader* poll
A good question. One that I've got several answers to. But lets go with just one for now.
(Sky in leadership role ftw, jk)
Medic Sky.
Sky comes from a small town that fly around on giant birds. (That have large talons might i add) I can totally see him having a form of medical training and knowing various herbs and stuff for healing remedies. Ect Ect. Can you imagine falling from your loftwing and landing on a random sky island because of a skytail attack? Your gonna need to know some sort of first aid especially if you land on an outer island.
I've tried my hand at writing it myself, but i want to do more with it cause its got so much unexplored potential!

My first post on Tumblr!! :) Uploading this here ruined the quality but oh well lmao
This is Aurorafern, one of my main ClanGen characters! She’s a blue-eyed calico and her father is Sunrisestar, the leader of CloverClan and her mother is Curlyflower, the deputy. She is charismatic and a very good teacher, and is very well-respected among the clan, and has one littermate, Skytail (her sister).
Maybe I’ll draw her parents and sister next :D
This is drawn by me btw! :) the character design was generated by the game ClanGen

Tears of the Kingdom: The Final Analysis
Part 9
Part 8 here
Back to our contraption, let's take a look at it now that it's active:
It gives off lasers in all directions. These lasers DO have a range, though
They seem to extend about as long as the ones that've hit the floor do. What purpose these higher lasers serve here, where the only enemies are bokoblins, I don't know; maybe they're here in case moblins spawn.
Something else that drew my attention here, though, was this:
That orange glow there. Lava? A deactivated Sheikah switch? I backed up a few frames to get a closer look:
This bokoblin has a juice backpack.
I have no idea what it does. My first thought is "ranged weapon," but maybe it's something meant to dismantle Ultrahand's adhesive. Do the enemies here learn from Link's strategies?
Moving on, we see this HUGE monster, but before we focus on that, there are two other things I want to point out.
First is Link's armor here. It's blue, with a spiked crown and luminous cuffs. It looks remarkably like Naydra, the ice dragon.
But how do you get this?
The dragons must play some more significant role in the story, even if it's a side quest that rewards you with the chests for it. That's three rewards, all together, presumably from each dragon unless Naydra gets special treatment (which isn't outside the realm of possibility; it was the only dragon of the three to be cursed).
The second thing I want to point out is Tulin. He's giving off glowing threads as he falls—why? What does he have that's doing this? What is it doing for him? He has wings, so it can't be a flight-related thing; is it a treasure he's carrying in a backpack? A spell that's currently active on him?
Back to our boss monster, there are a number of things this guy resembles.
There's Twinmold, from Majora's Mask; their mandibles look similar, and they have the same needle-like square mouth of teeth.
Gohma's Wind Waker incarnation, for similar reasons.
The Minish Cap's Gyorg, with its many eyes and curved mandibles, and its relation to the sky.
And, while not a boss, it does resemble an ice-white version of a Skytail from Skyward Sword.
It also appears to be coming out of a portal, though that could just be part of the effect of this thing tearing through the clouds.
The next clip has malice spiraling outwards like a fireball, consuming everything in its path.
We saw something similar when Zelda sealed Calamity Ganon away at the end of Breath of the Wild, so this might be the seal giving way.
We then cut to Zelda—"I know why I am here. It's...something only I can do." Her appearance here is just like it was when her mentor figure was talking to her. However, if we look at the background-
There is nothing behind her. No settlements, no towers, no sky isles, nothing. Wherever this is, it's fully immune to the absolute chaos that's currently going on—OR she stands on one of the sky isles, though a very plain one, with nothing else to her left.
It's further evidenced here, by this stone, which we get a better view of in the next shot.
Her hands, cupping the golden tear we see at her neck in the mentor shot, stand on an interesting background. We can see that she stands on a stone pedestal of some kind; likely a Zonai structure.
But why does she have the Master Sword, wherever she is?
Let's take a look at that tear, as well. See the runes etched on the surface?
It's the "Recall" glyph we saw in the gameplay trailer, but turned. Thus, the "right side up" for this tear is like this:
This is important later, I swear.
Malice rises in the next shot, and it happens so quickly that it's hard to see the source.
That's Corpse Ganondorf, his arms stretched upwards as he releases it all.
But then the trailer does a very, very clever switcheroo that's impossible to notice at normal speed.
You see these two screenshots? Flip between them for a moment, back and forth. They look like they're from different moments, right?
The second one is exactly one frame after the first. These are two different shots, spliced together.
What does this mean, as far as we're concerned here? I see two options:
The pillars of light happen at multiple moments, possibly whenever the blood moon rises.
This is a different cut of the same cutscene—omitting a point in the middle between Ganoncorpse unleashing the beam and the beam going into the sky.
Regardless of which it is, the beam goes into the sky, surrounded by the malice sparks that accompany the blood moon.
And it explodes.
And I'm out of space yet again. Look out for part 10!
Edit: Part 10!

From 52Toys another fine addition to their Beast series, in this case the BeastDrive line, where an animal has a vehicle mode (or vice versa).
So meet SkyTail, the Squirrel who can become a stealth bomber, with optional rocket additions.
I love that the pilot for the stealth bomber mode is a tiny little squirrel too! :D

Headcanon Dump
for my loz ss fic "finding a new home in you'"
(also abt SS in general)
About Link
As a kid, Link was always daydreaming and tended to stick to himself. He struggled in school because of this, and it's only because of Zelda that he applied himself to his studies
Link was mute as a kid due to fear of embarrassment. Due to his constant daydreaming, he was already picked on for being weird. He didn't want anything to increase the bullying
It'll be years later that he would start to speak to others. But only selectively, which he feels awful about. However, I would like to note he'll always speak freely with Zelda. She's always been his safe space after all
His dad specialized in wood carpeting, and did wood sculpting as a hobby, often selling his work at the Bazaar. Link's dad was also HOH, which is how Link knew sign language as a kid
Link's mom was a rescue knight that decided to stay in Skyloft instead of leaving. She was one of the top students of her class, which is why her death was so shocking for everyone
Link's mom died during a stormy night, she didn't see the Skytail charge at her until it was too late. His dad died trying to find her the next night
Croo was someone who used to be in the Knights Academy, but was never able to graduate. I feel like he was one of the main encouragers for Link to try in his schooling
Piper was friends with Link's mom, and was always happy whenever he came to watch or help her. After his mom's death, they became distant and now Link feels awkward around her
Link lived with Wyrna and Jakamar until he moved into the Knights Academy. They joke he was excellent practice for raising a kid, and often he goes over for dinner and to babysit Kukiel. Because of how often he is over, its joked he's Kukiel's older brother
Link won't meet Groose until sophomore year of Knights Academy, which is when Groose would transfer to Skyloft.
Junior year is when Link starts getting his prophecy dreams, but only thought of them as coincidence for matching the future. This is why he didn't think much of the dream in the beginning of SS.
Link took to wood sculpting as a way to feel close to his parents, and along the way learned to love it for himself. He's always making things for Zelda
My ideas for how Link knows Crimson change all the time, but for this fic it's literally just a wild animal immediately going "you're my friend now." Crimson will follow Link to Skyloft, where he will be grouped with the other Loftwings to train. Link never attends the Loftwing Ceremony and while not allowed to fly at that point, he spends his free time bonding with Crimon.
About Zelda
Zelda is very mischievous, and paired with Link's joking nature, both team up as pranksters. Zelda is the brains in these pranks, and always makes sure she has an explanation out of blame. Link doesn't think ahead like that and often gets in trouble, which Zelda teases him for
One of the things she would do as a kid would sneak in to where the Loftwings were taken care of, and play with them. In this fic, she had the impulsive thought to fly one and well. It results in the starting friendship between her and Link
Where Link aims to be a knight, Zelda wants to be a teacher. She loves learning and helping others, so she believes it would be a perfect career for herself
The Lofwing sculpture we see on her table in-game is the same one Link gives her in this fic. Just a detail I want to be true
She embroideries as a hobby, and spent months working on the sail cloth she gives Link. Usually the school uses the same one from the previous years, but no, Zelda wanted it to be special
Her mom died two years after befriending Link, and they get closer after their understanding of loosing a parent. It seemed to clear an invisible barrier between them and they become BFF's
Zelda meets her Loftwing during the Loftwing ceremony, but before that she would be jealous of Link and his bond with Crimson. It makes me laugh to think this is why she pushes him off cliffs all the time, just a lil petty revenge
Zelda has always been fascinated by the idea that more lays beneath the cloud barrier, and she was only ever able to describe it as a "gut feeling". Later on her adventure, she would realize this feeling was because of her memories as Hylia, just waiting to be re-discovered
About Skyloft
I imagine Skyloft to not be as small as it is in the game. Being the main island in the skies, I imagine it housed thousands of people. I feel like there's other main hubs, but Skyloft's main attraction is the Knights Academy and the Bazaar
The people of Skyloft (and the skies in general) believe in the motto "it takes a village to raise a child". Even tho Wyrna and Jakamar took themselves to be Link's main caretakers, multiple people helped out
It's already noted Loftwings are essentially soulmates to the Hylians. But they're still big wild birds, so I imagine it takes years of handling and training them, especially for the Knights. There's a ceremony in Skyloft where the Loftwing will choose their owner (the summer between freshman and sophomore year; it needs to be considered what type of training the Loftwing will need based on if the owner makes it through the basics of knight training) and they will be paired until both die. Because of the strong bond, Loftwings won't accept any new owners
Despite Loftwings being based on the shoebill, I like to think they have a life-time expectancy similar to parrots, living for around 30 years.
I feel like feathers would be a big part of Skyloft culture. Framing them is common during Loftwing deaths, and braiding it into hair for ceremonies and celebrations.
Schooling System on Skyloft (more focused on the Knights Academy)
Ages 3-5 prioritizes motor control and basic skills. such as language and socialization. Ages 6-11 prioritizes math, social studies, basic science, and literacy. Ages 11-18 is where schooling becomes more advanced, and you can choose to go to Knights Academy or continue on a more regular path
Age 13 is when kids are allowed to chose to go to the knight academy or not, in which they have to take an exam and interview to qualify (this is similar to the process for being accepted to an early college program in the U.S.)
The Knights Academy is also treated as a boarding school, with kids moving in the same year they're accepted in
From here, courses are more focused on Loftwing care, flying physics and training, ethics, health and medical aid, physical training, etc.
Typically the Wing Ceremony is for junior years and is a way to test who will be the top students for graduation, as well as to see who needs to be held back. After this is when seniors can start sword training and learn more advance flying.
Depending how well a student did during their schooling, they will be stationed to guard Skyloft. The more top students would be stationed more outwards to defend other islands, as it's considered more dangerous with the lack of recourses, long flight ranges, decreased contact with others, and increased encounters with monsters
#skyward sword#legend of zelda skyward sword#loz#loz ss#loz sksw#i may have gone crazy with this#these ideas have been festering in my mind for months im sorry but im also not

Eldin Leviathan - Baleadepliae levius
B. levius exhibits a conspicuous morphological similarity to Levias, a deity from Hylian mythology.
B. levius has forward-facing nostrils in contrast to the typical blowhole positioned at the top of the skull which has been observed in other cetaceans. This disparity prompts a reconsideration of B. levius' ecological classification, whether aquatic or aerial (like the skytail), and may necessitate reevaluation of its taxonomic placement.
B. levius may represent a transitional fossil between Odontoceti and earlier ceteceans.

Its so fun to brainstorm what diets different groups have in TLOZ. Hyrule is by no means a version of medieval europe after all- they have pumpkins and peppers, all of which are "new world" foods, so we dont need to stick with "what would medieval Europe have?"
We know that the Zora are clearly carnivorous and it wouldnt be unfair to assume they exclusively consume fish and crustaceans, and Gorons eat that slightly concerning "rock roast" that jas a bone for some reason... but as for others?
Lets look at Skyloftians- they have no large farm animals, and main their crops are pumpkins and bamboo. There are stamina fruits and heart flowers as well, but its fair to assume those are metabolized rather quickly. This list doesnt exactly make for a varied diet.
Its quite possible they also ate skytails, guay, and octorocs that can be found in the sky, as well as unfertilized Loftwing eggs. The omelettes you can get in skyloft are definitely off-the-charts good.
Additionally, due to their limited land, it would be most sustainable to grow vine-based food, that can grow on the sides of the island. This opens their diet to foods such as grapes, passionfruit, sweet potato, certain beans and spinach, and various leafy greans.
What about the folks from Wind waker? Similar issue, very limited land, not ideal for large grain crops. And we know fishing isn't an option. Trade is especially hazardous on the high seas as well, so islands need to be self sufficient should the need arise. We see palm trees on most inhabited isles, so theres one option.
Outset island raises pigs and has a nice forested area- they could grow some food there, as hazardous as it can get. There's clearly enough for Grandma to make soup
Windfall island doesnt seem to have much at all, despite its bustling population. They could just be fully dependant on trade and preserved food in case things go awry.
Greatfish Isle seemed to have a lot of land- I'm inclined to believe it was dedicated to farming, and was particularly prosperous thatnks to the windfish's blessing. Therefore its destruction would have disastrous consequences.
Dragon roost isle is interesting, though its not unlikely that the Rito could subsist off insects, smaller birds, and plants that dont require much light, which theyd grow in the temple?
With the Gerudo, we see vendors in BOTW primarily selling meat, so its likely thats a large staple of their diet. They have melons and voltfruits as well, but little grain. This isn't exactly a varied diet either. What else could they eat? My thoughts run to crops typically grown by Oases (dates, wheat, corn, citrus) and crops that do well with little water (peppers, agave, prickily pear fruits and the cactus itself)

I’m still excited that you used sword forms inspired by me!!!!! I’m riding this high. It’s so awesome and I keep smiling about it you have brought me unbridled joy thank you!!!!
I first started the sword dances from an RP with Sky in it and then I ended up using them in Martyr. Then you took them and made them something new and amazing and AAAAA!!!! EEEEE!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They’re really cool! The idea came while driving home that the best way for Sky to get back at the dirtbag commander Cap’ika wrote for Warriors was to have the best swordsman in the chain ‘innocently’ challenge dirtbag to a spar. And I needed a way to have him show up the guy and had just read your chapter of Martyr with the sword forms… and I’d previously read through two books of Wheel of Time and there was a whole thing with the individual movements in the form and my brain came up with ‘Skytail’s Flight into Levias’ Wake’ and went ‘ooh, show up dirtbag with a missing sequence because he’s teaching the cadets wrong!’
And that was a whole infodump you may or may not care about… but I’ve been dying to scream about that one because I felt clever for doing it.
