in like 99% of fandoms and stories I get into, I do not give a Singular Serious Shit about Shipping, it's just not important to me, I don't really get much out of it-
Except Dungeon Meshi, a story with no fully front facing romance (Falin and Marcille are so heavily coded it's not funny but it's still not like. If you really wanted to be pedantic about it they are not 'confirmed official', but that's also As Close As We Get, the trials of romance are just not a part of Dungeon Meshi's storyline, Desire and Obsession are so that's the aspect of their relationship that shines through the most) has me absolutely going insane over the Specific Romantic Dynamics of basically every fucking character alongside their platonic ones. I've got a ship for everyone.
I gesture wildly at my red string corkboard 'for once I have opinions and how convenient that they are correct and right'

TOO SWEET. | LAIOS TOUDEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis ━━ after accepting his new title, your moments alone with laios start to become a rarity. it was hard for him to find time, making him long for the days in the dungeon with you. and now, the kisses between you two were quick and desperate, until one night...when a very tired laios just can't seem to ignore you. (laios x f!reader.)
content warnings ━━ cunnilingus + fingering, praise, size kink, reader on top, unprotected sex, creampie, cum eating, yearning + sexual tension, laios and reader haven't boinked in a bit, monster facts as dirty talk ofc, confession, mentions of dubious consent in 5th paragraph (from when the winged lion switched into laios's body). nsfw (minors + ageless blogs dni).
word count ━━ 5.4k
song inspiration ━━ howl, florence + the machine / oil & water, pvris / love story, taylor swift
author's note ━━ THIS ONE-SHOT CONTAINS MANGA SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF DUNGEON MESHI! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! okay, part 3 (and final part) of my laios series is here! like the other parts, this could be read as a standalone, if you want. my plan for part 3 was to make it vague in case ppl who haven’t read the manga want to read it, but that kinda went out the window. I highly encourage everyone to read the manga if you want more of the story, it gets so interesting! I'm a SUCKER for a knight x ruler ship, so that's what you're getting in this!! I've enjoyed writing this little connected series so much and it really pushed me to start writing reader one-shots! if it hadn't been for all the ppl in the dungeon meshi fandom who read my work, I probably wouldn't have started this. this anime + manga has become one of my absolute favorites!! I hope you guys enjoy this! ps: don't worry, I will be writing more laios in the future 😉
🪽 part i: PLEASE, EAT. / part ii: FORBIDDEN FRUIT. / part iii: TOO SWEET.
Tumblr media
After what felt like years, all was right in the world when the Island’s dungeon was destroyed and the Golden Kingdom finally rose from the sea. You had gotten to know Laios – in more ways than one – throughout your journey inside the dungeon, which had left you terrified at some points, especially when you almost lost him. But it hadn’t surprised you when the people had declared him King of a land that was thought to have been perished 1000 years ago. With everything he sacrificed, Laios – the devour of monsters, the destroyer of demons – was the only right person to rule.
With the help of Marcille, Senshi, Chilchuck, and even more friends met along the way, Laios was advised thoroughly as he undertook the stresses of establishing the Golden Kingdom once again. He had to deal with villager problems, instituting the economy, and keeping an eye on the monsters that took residence in surrounding lands. He watched them from his bedroom window on the farthest tower of the castle, admiring the beasts that warded off any threats to the kingdom. But his passion had become the production and preservation of food throughout his land, specifically in regards to magic and monsters. He made sure not one person in the Golden Kingdom went hungry, even if it killed him someday.
Most days were spent researching with his advisors or sitting in the throne room, listening to villagers' pleas for more building materials, better water, or whatever else they came up with that day. Laios made sure to listen to every ask, but he had to admit – just talking to people was exhausting. He never regretted his decision to become King, but sometimes … he longed for the days in the dungeons, tearing into whatever monster they cooked up that night, fighting alongside you, holding your hand or kissing you … tasting you.
Like your former party members, you had taken up residence in the castle as Laios’s chief knight and sworn protector. It made sense, given the fact that you had saved him with your crossbow on several occasions in the dungeon. You frequented by his side, except when he was in his own chambers. You led him to meetings, walked with him through the streets of the kingdom, protected him if any threats arose. Ever since you took up this mantle, your moments alone together had become rare. There had been one night: after Laios was safe and sound in the walls of the castle … that you shared his bed with him, tears streaming down your face because you had been so worried for him, but it didn’t matter anymore now that he was safe, and healing, and pounding into you so hard that it left you both gasping for air. Besides that, the only encounters you had alone were fleeting, consisting of swift, passionate kisses and rough squeezes in dark corners. You two hadn’t been intimate in any sense of the word since … well, since the Winged Lion was defeated.
Just the memory of the demon made you shiver. You remembered when the Wing Lion had switched into Laios’s body and granted his true desire to become a monster. Before trying to escape the dungeon, he had tried fooling all the party members that he really was Laios and he almost fooled you. You recalled the way he had tried to kiss you – probably devouring your own desires right from your mouth – and how his hands so eagerly tried to slip underneath your skirt, finding you already aching and ready for your lover, just needing to be touched after being so distraught over Laios’s wellbeing. But you recognized the foreign contact from a mile away, and you had pushed him back, screaming at the Winged Lion to bring back your Laios.
You shook yourself out of the memory as you walked Laios back to his bed chambers that night. His stomach was full from dinner, but he was also worn out from a long day of meeting with his advisors. Marcille had really chewed into him about something today, but you weren’t sure of the reason. Holding open the door to his room for him, you caught his tired, lingering gaze before he disappeared inside. You swallowed hard, stationing yourself outside his door, your fingers on the handle of your sword. Nights like these were hard. They were lonely. It was just you out here, manning the King’s chambers, with nothing but the memory of his mouth between your legs or his groans echoing in your ears.
His half-lidded eyes tonight had you reeling, squeezing your thighs together as you tried to forget about how much you wanted him. It had been almost two weeks since he last kissed you. And that kiss had been quick, desperate, two people colliding in the small, unlit closet used by the maids.
Your hand enclosed around the hilt of your sword, and you nodded at two other guards walking past. If you kept losing yourself to daydreams like this, there was no way you’d be focused enough to protect Laios from an immediate threat. That’s what mattered after all: the King’s protection … the King’s protection … the King. Surely, it wasn’t wise to be so entranced with the new King of the Golden Kingdom as his sworn sword. And again, you understood why you were picked. But it was nights like this where you really wished you had just been … his lover. Hell, you’d even survive with just being a lady of the court if it meant no more secret meetings in closets.
You could’ve dwelled on this predicament for hours, if the door to the Laios’s chambers wasn’t opening.
You turned immediately, your hand on the hilt of your sword going tight. But it was just Laios, leaning against the open door and rubbing at his tired eyes. He had shed his fancy clothes for a nightshirt and loose-fitting drawers. His hair had grown a bit longer, and he refused to cut it out of spite. The way it was sticking out right now, pushed back slightly by his hand … you swore you could feel your knees buckling.
“Your Grace?” You greeted, remaining professional, until you saw that look in his eyes again. That tired, lingering gaze. Full of want, and care, and desperation for another body against his.
His eyes crinkled, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at your call. “Please, do not feel the need to call me that at this hour.” He then held out his hand, beckoning you closer.
Swallowing hard, your eyes flicker down the barren hallway before taking his hand, letting him lead you inside his bed chambers. This was the moment you’d been waiting for so long. His movements were calculated, deliberate, as he slowly shut the large door. You unhooked your belt and scabbard, setting them by the door. As you turned to him, he was already in front of you, helping you take off your armor. His fingers were slow, not in a hurry, as he fiddled with the metal fasteners. He struggled with some clasps, muttering under his breath, and you laughed softly. Each piece was set delicately on the ground, and then he was lifting off your chainmail as if it weighed nothing. You sometimes wondered how you were able to walk around with such heavy material every day since taking up this mantle.
Finally, you were left in nothing but your clothes beneath the armor: a loose red tunic and suede trousers. The relaxed nature in his eyes vanished, replaced by an intense hunger, mirroring the stance of a wolf. Laios was rushing towards you, pushing you against the wall, and pressing his mouth onto yours. You matched his desire tenfold, winding your hands into his hair as you kissed each other with desperation. His fingers fisted into the sides of your shirt, pulling you against him, while his tongue prodded into your mouth. He groaned immediately. All this time without tasting just a bit of you had him weak in the knees. He’d never go this long without kissing you ever again.
“It’s been weeks,” he muttered between kisses. Gone was the monster-obsessed adventurer who saved you from turning into a sea serpent. He’d been replaced by a King who yearned for your touch the second he saw you every morning.
“Since we last kissed,” you corrected as he pressed your back even further into the cold, stone wall. His lips broke away from yours, leaving a trail of spit connecting you two. You exhaled, “It’s been months since we were alone for longer than two minutes.”
“I know,” he sighed, now nuzzling his cheek against yours, “and I’m sorry. All I want to do is go back to the dungeon … with you. It’s just … there’s no time, and I’m so tired.” His mouth then dragged to the shell of your ear, and you shivered when his hot breath ghosted over the side of your face. “But the way you looked tonight at dinner … I don’t know … it was the way the wine made your face red … no matter how tired I was, I had to have you tonight. I missed you so much.”
You were sure that your cheeks had to be as flushed now as they were at dinner. Just his kiss alone had you wet, already wrapped around his finger. “I missed you too, Laios.”
He hardly gave you a second to continue before he was kneeling in front of you. He couldn’t wait; there was this fierce longing in his eyes that only you could cure. His fingers hooked into the waistband of your trousers as he muttered, “I need to taste you.”
Despite his desperation, he did take a moment to admire how soaked your underwear was, how he had always been the one to cause this. You looked down at him and he looked up at you. With long, expert fingers, Laios tugged your underwear down along with your trousers. Your pussy was absolutely dripping, like a goddamn faucet. A whine escaped his lips, hungry for a taste, and he spread your folds just slightly to see the wetness gather. There were just about a thousand monster dishes he enjoyed, but nothing – absolutely nothing – compared to how delicious you were.
Laios didn’t even give you time to step out of your pants and underwear. He was grasping your hips and burying his face between your legs, pushing you right back against the wall. You choked on a moan, even though you both knew you had to be quiet, but you just couldn’t help yourself. He placed one of your legs on his shoulder to give him better access, and when he finally got the first few drops of you on his tongue, he damn near started crying.
You were exquisite. You were too sweet. Sweet like Dryad fruit.
Grinding your hips against his tongue, you whined out his name and realized how badly you had needed him in this way for weeks. Your hands found purchase in his hair, tugging his face deeper into your pussy. He lapped at you, absolutely ravenous, groaning when more slick entered his mouth. His lips wrapped around your clit and sucked harshly. His fingers dug into your hip, surely bruising you, while his other hand wrapped around your leg and pushed them even further apart.
“Missed the way you tasted,” he muttered before flicking your clit with his tongue. “I could do this for hours.”
You let out a shuddering breath, already hazy from his touch. “Why don’t you then?”
“I want to,” he chuckled, all awkward and blushing. Just the sight of him looking up at you with those pretty eyes while licking a stripe up your pussy had you gasping. “Tomorrow. I promise. I just need to be inside you tonight.”
His promise for tomorrow had your heart fluttering. You both were going to make time again, but he also had more plans for you tonight. This wasn’t going to be just two minutes in a closet. Thinking of him stretching your walls with his girth, pushing into you after all these weeks of yearning for him, of touching yourself whenever you could because you just missed him so much … it all made you start to buck your hips against his tongue again. You knew how much he loved that. You physically felt him smile against you, sucking on your clit once again as he prodded one finger inside your tight warmth.
Your eyes rolled back once he found your g-spot, curling his finger and beginning to pump in and out. “Fuck, Laios, I –”
“Needed this so badly,” he confessed, swirling his tongue around your increasingly swollen clit. His cock was straining against his drawers, precum seeping through the thin fabric, but he wanted you to cum on his tongue first. It’s all he’d been dreaming about. “Needed you.”
“I needed you too,” you whispered, and then felt him add a second finger inside of you. You bit the side of your hand, muffling your moan. “So good – fuck. Doing so good, Laios –”
Your body was starting to shake, your walls clenching around his fingers. Laios was relishing in your taste, teasing your clit in the most delicious way. You were so, so close and he needed this so much and so did you and before you knew it, you were crying out into your hand again. Your pussy went tight as his fingers curled into your g-spot and you came all over his waiting tongue. Laios whimpered when he finally tasted your release, pushing his face as much as he could into your pussy, almost suffocating himself. He licked at you, making sure he got every last drop, and when your hips finally stilled, he pulled his fingers out of you with a wet pop and lapped at the excess.
Sweat ran down your brow as you settled against the wall, trying to calm your breathing. When you opened your eyes, Laios was getting to his feet and towering over you. His hand clasped around your jaw and gave you another bruising kiss, letting you taste yourself on his tongue. It was like he was trying to devour you, to mold both of you into one so you could be together forever.
Carrying you over to the bed, he set you down on top of the blankets and finally tugged your pants and underwear from your ankles. You laughed together when he realized that he had gotten so excited he forgot to rid you of these. "Sorry," he said, setting them down in a pile.
You couldn't help but smile when you noticed the blush on his cheeks. "Missed me that much, huh?"
His face went even more pink. "Stop embarrassing me when I'm trying to seduce you."
He pulled his nightshirt over his head, and before his fingers could grasp the hem of your tunic, you were pinning him with the brute strength he forgot you acquired in the dungeon. "You don't have to do much to seduce me, Laios," you whispered in his ear, making him shudder.
Now underneath you, you straddled Laios's lap, feeling how hard he was in his drawers. He looked up at you in shock, like you were an offering from the Gods, as you lifted your tunic off and dropped it to the floor. His breathing stilled, watching the way your breasts heaved, and his cock was practically begging for release.
You leaned down, pressing your mouth to his throat, placing sloppy kisses on areas that made his breath hitch. This was the new King of the Golden Kingdom under you, trembling from just your lips on his skin. He was wrapped around your finger just as much as you were wrapped around his. Dragging your lips down, you kissed his chest before finally swirling your tongue around one of his nipples. Laios muttered expletives under his breath as you wrapped your lips around his nipple, pinching his other one. His whole body was becoming tense underneath you, his straining erection poking against your backside, but you kept teasing him.
At the end of the day, you were always there for your King.
Once both his nipples were taut and wet from your expert tongue, you leaned back up to his face and kissed the corner of his mouth. He watched you with half-lidded eyes, cupping your face so tenderly. “Laios, I just want to be extra sure. Do you want to …?” Your question hung heavy between you two, but recognition flashed in Laios’s eyes. You nuzzled the side of his face and added, “I know you’re tired. I don’t want to keep you up if you’re that exhausted.”
“I’ve been thinking about this – about you – for weeks,” he said, his eyes filled with need. “I want this. I want you.”
You stared at him, absolutely melting at the sight of that dopey grin on his face once again, the one you loved so, so much. Now you were blushing, unable to not giggle when you saw that grin. You traced the curve of his mouth with your finger, and he bit down on the top of it unexpectedly, making you both laugh. This is why you loved Laios: everything was so easy with him.
Wait, love. Is that was this was? The burning feeling in your chest whenever he was near. The way you couldn’t help but smile whenever he did, or how you always laughed along with him. The natural disposition to protect him, whether it be from demons or people. The way you could so easily melt under his touch, under his kiss. It had always been there, staring you right in the face … love.
Feeling your heart beat rapidly in your chest, you finally moved so he could push down his drawers, and his hard cock sprang free. Precum leaked from the blushing red tip, dripping down his shaft and onto his stomach. You adored how pretty his cock was, how easily he could stretch you out with his girth. He liked the way you looked at it now, how you praised him. It took a couple of times, but he eventually stopped being embarrassed about his size around you. He still liked to give you monster facts as he fucked you sometimes – as a treat.
Laios’s hands settled on your hips as you lifted yourself, positioning yourself above his cock. You wrapped your hand around his shaft to get the perfect angle, smearing his precum and making him hiss. “Did … did you know,” he said, voice strangled, “the maximum speed of a Red Dragon is approximately – oh, fuck – 60 kilometers per hour?”
“Mhmm …” You hummed, finally lowering yourself with his help, sinking down onto his cock slowly. Once he slipped a few inches inside your warm, wet walls, you both gasped. You placed your free hand on his chest and encouraged, “Tell me more, Laios.”
“Gods …” He breathed out, feeling your body quiver above him. “I … uh – fuck … people have theorized that changelings – shit – use their ability to change living things in order to propagate their species – fuck, almost there –”
You both let out a breath of relief once he was finally seated inside you. Laios sat up, tugging you more against him, and you wrapped your arms around his neck. You stayed there for a moment, adjusting to his size once again, clinging to him as he kissed your cheek and murmured how you took him so well. You’d probably never get used to how big he was, but he filled you so nicely, so completely. After making sure you were comfortable, Laios decided to take the reins and began moving you on his cock. You whimpered after the first pass, and he had to grip your hips so tightly just to stop himself from going overboard, wanting to make this last just a little while longer. Each roll of your hips had you mewling as his cock curved inside you, brushing your spongy g-spot. His fingers dug into your skin, rocking you back and forth, grinding your already oversensitive clit against his pelvis.
Burying your face into his neck, you let him start to bounce you on his cock. He groaned, feeling himself throb inside your tight heat. Everything about you was perfect: from the way you fit him inside of you so nicely to the way you whined against his skin, begging for more. He was thoroughly obsessed with you. It was a miracle that it took him so long to initiate with you after the Golden Kingdom had risen. He found himself thinking about your touch, about your taste, more often than not. And the way you smiled at him, your laughter sounding like wind chimes in a busy street market … he knew how deep his feelings went, farther than he expected. He was the King but you were the one who brought him to his knees every time.
“I can’t get enough of you,” he groaned, biting and sucking on the side of your neck. “You always feel so good … so warm …”
He started thrusting up into you when his arms got a little tired, and you let him simply take control. There was so little control he had in his life now, especially since he was being watched almost all the time, so you’d give him this – you’d give him you. And gods, did it feel good to just melt into him, to not be his sworn sword, just for a little while. Right now, you two were just lovers, desperate to soothe each other’s ache.
The expansive bedroom was filled with the sounds of skin slapping against skin and moans echoing off the ceiling. Your arousal oozed out with each roll of your hips, dripping onto the lavish blankets befit for a King. But neither of you seemed to give a damn as his nails created crescent shapes in your hips, and you squeezed around him so much that he choked on a whimper. With your face nuzzling the crook of his neck, you carded your fingers into his hair, pulling slightly and eliciting another sound from him.
“Did you also know,” he began in a strained tone, “fuck – wargs have no fear of monsters larger than themselves – please, fuck – not even … not even dragons?”
“Are we still doing that?” You snorted, lifting your head from his neck.
He laughed along with you, and now you both were looking into each other’s eyes as he thrust up into you, hitting the best spots. He leaned down to capture one of your nipples in his mouth, moaning at the way you squirmed. His tongue moved to lick up the valley between your breasts, almost animalistic, before his mouth was grazing yours and his eyes were burning into you like melted gold. You clung onto him tighter, your chest flush against him, and you knew then that this wasn’t just fucking anymore. Laios was making love to you and you were making love to him and – fuck, he was going to make you cum so hard to make up for the past few weeks.
You were creating an absolute mess on top of him, just a blabbering heap of moans and whines, eyes locked on his as you rode him into oblivion. “I’m gonna cum,” you mewled, unable to keep your voice level. Your fingers tugged on his hair again, and he responded by downright slamming you up and down his thick cock.
“I know. It’s okay. I know.” One of his hands left your hip to reach in between your bodies, where you both were linked, and two fingers began to circle your clit. You hissed, back arching even more into him. Your vow to be quiet long forgotten as he teased your ache. “That’s it … there you go.”
Laios knew his strength, and it was certainly showing it off tonight. He was rocking your hips on his cock – so close to release – while rubbing your clit in tight circles. His sweet nothings in your ear had you crying out his name, and after a few more messy passes, you were cumming around him. You were shaking like fresh mandrake in his arms. Your walls squeezed him so tight that it only took one more thrust up into you before he was emptying himself into you. He came with a lewd groan, his hands falling to his sides and leaving you to bounce yourself on his cock through his release. Eventually, when the wave after wave of pleasure settled between you both, you slumped against him and breathed heavily. And he just held you, burying his face in your neck and licking at the bites he left on your bruised skin.
When you lifted your head to kiss him, he surprised you by rolling you onto your back, his soft cock slipping out and leaving you feeling empty. He kneeled at the end of the bed and spread your legs wide open, letting your combined releases spill out. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, and the anguish in his tone stunned you. “It’s been weeks, and I just … I need you.”
As soon as the word, “Please,” left your lips, he was diving in again, spreading your folds with two fingers. He licked a long stripe through your pussy, gathering your releases on his tongue. He didn’t care that he was tasting his own cum; all he wanted was this – you. He lapped at you, still starving for your taste, and the way he had you cumming again was slow, calculated. Laios edged you, teetering you on the brink of release, before his hunger got the best of him. And when you came again on his tongue, it felt long and relaxing, like a weight had been lifted off you. Warmth seeped from your aching pussy and onto his tongue. He drank his fill, relishing in your sweetness.
Laios rose back on the bed, curling against your side like a tamed dire wolf. His arms slotted against you, pulling your naked front against his once again. His hand lifted to your cheek, pushing strands of hair behind your ear. Your noses brushed against each other, and he finally kissed you, slowly and passionately. There was no desperation left in him. It was replaced by the steady rhythm of his heart next to yours.
“I love you, Laios,” you blurted in the softest voice you could muster. Once you realized what you said, you didn’t dare open your eyes to see his reaction. You simply felt him, his lips hovering just over yours, and then he hummed.
“I love you too,” he whispered, and your eyes opened to watch him. That dazed grin appeared once again, making your insides twist and your cheeks tinged pink.
Laios practically giggled and pecked your lips just to soothe your nerves. “I’m not sure how to handle you like this,” he joked, finally making you laugh with him. “Usually, you’re the one making me nervous.”
“I just …” You shook your head. “I was afraid you wouldn’t say it back.”
“I thought it was obvious that I’ve been in love with you since we first met,” he said in that straightforward tone of his. His thumbs brushed over your cheekbones and he smiled. “Seems like I’m cooler than I thought.”
You chuckled, hitting his chest and making him fall back onto the bed. You were sitting up slightly, propping your elbow and resting your chin in your hand. Laios was looking up at you like you put the stars in the sky. Both of you knew, instinctively, that a King being intimate with his sworn protector was typically frowned upon. Neither of you truly cared, but the opinions of his people had to matter. He was a new King after all, and every move of his would be scrutinized. Which left him with one option.
Lacing his fingers with yours, he said, “We should get married.”
Your brow furrowed. “That seems a little rash.”
It was your gut instinct to deflect, to push him away, even when you scooted yourself closer to him. But you couldn’t deny that this had been in the back of your mind, shoved in the dark corners when you thought it might be too crazy of an idea. The first time it popped into your brain was when you saw Laios’s monster form lying helpless on the ground. His body was deteriorating, blood seeping out from every crevice of the three-headed creature. The Winged Lion had been defeated, but you couldn’t stop the wail that erupted from your mouth as you took in Laios’s monster body, reeking of death and despair. You remembered running from from the tower, taking one of the heads in your arms, and crying, your tears soaking the fur.
But then you and Marcille found him amongst the trees of the island, where Falin’s body had been frozen and resting against a boulder. From the moment his eyes met yours, you had no doubt that this was your Laios. And he was okay. He was tired, but he was okay. You didn’t think you could shed any more tears, but then you were running towards him, wrapping your arms around him, and he was burying his face in your neck and – gods, that had to be when you knew. With the relief flooding through you and his arms embracing you … you knew then that you wanted to be with him forever. You didn’t want to see him in harm’s way ever again. You would kill – again and again – for him. You would be by his side as long as he would have you. You loved him. You wanted him. Forever.
Laios snorted, bringing you out of the memory. “Rash? After how long we’ve known each other?” His tone grew serious. “I trust you with my life. That’s why I named you my sword. But I don’t want to go weeks without you ever again. I love you – I’m in love with you – and I know that I don’t want anyone else by my side.” He squeezed your fingers in his own. “I want to marry you. And then, we can be together freely with you as my Queen and sword sword.” He then paused, thinking. “We can do that, right?”
You laughed. “You’re the King. You can make your own rules, but …” Your teeth sunk into your bottom lip for a moment as you mulled over his words. “Are you sure you want to marry me?”
“I’ve never been more certain about anything.” He then tapped his chin, feigning curiosity. “Unless you want me to marry Marcille? It would certainly be a loveless marriage, but she can be friendly when she isn’t advising me.”
Shaking you head, you flicked his arm. “Not sure if your sister would appreciate that. Or Marcille, for that matter.” Not even magic could force those two apart. They would love each other until the end of time.
Your eyes narrowed now. “Are you actually proposing to me without a ring, Your Grace?”
The formality made him cringe, but then his face relaxed as he stared up at you, taking in your beauty. You were the most beautiful like this, vulnerable and bare with your hair jutting out at every angle and your lips swollen from kissing him. But he’d reckon you were beautiful in every light. He couldn’t help but also think back to when you found him by Falin’s crystalized form, how it felt to just hold you again after such an egregious fight. Your warmth had seeped into him, reminding him of home. You were home. And that was when he knew, too, that he wanted to be bound to you.
Laios brought your joined hands to his lips, kissing each of your knuckles. “Once the sun rises, you will get a proper proposal. I’ve always been a man of my word, haven’t I?”
And that he was. Because the moment you stirred awake the next morning, still sleeping in his bed, you opened your eyes to find Laios, King of Golden Kingdom, kneeling at your bedside. He held out a ring to you, eagerly awaiting your response. Once your eyes adjusted to the light and you saw his golden doe eyes, his big grin, you wrapped your arms around his neck. Of course, you said, Yes.

Tumblr media
Even though its been many years since laios cut off the arrangement and disappeared you still found yourself getting upset at him. He just cancelled it all and ran off to not be heard from again.
Of course over the years that anger and frustration faded greatly but every so often your mind would wander and you would feel your cheeks heat up at the thought of being abandoned like that. but over all you figure it was probably for the best anyway, you dont mind your life and that touden was always...strange to say the least even if he was a looker.
One day though as you are going about your day when laios mother approaches you, asking if she can come in. You agree and let her inside, despite your feelings about laios you had no bad blood with her. you get the both of you some tea as she starts speaking. "Did you hear about the rise of the golden kingdom?" she asks, you nod and say of course you had. it had been the talk of the entire world ever since it rose up out of the sea, seemingly out of nowhere one day. Apparently some group of adventurers defeated the mad mage and seemed like those rumors about becoming the new leader of it was true. You say casually as you take a sip of some tea. "yeah well apparently Laios was the one that defeated the mage and rules the golden kingdom now." she says so casually causing you to spit all the tea you were drinking out, shouting in confusion you ask her if you heard that right? she nods and explains what she had been told from letters from falin, you knew that falin had stayed in touch with there parents but laios had apparently cut them off a decade ago much to your surprise.
You decide to pay a visit, you feel like you almost HAVE to. you need to know why he just left you like that, why he did what he did all those years ago. It took you a bit to get to the new golden kingdom, laios definitely had travelled a far distance since your last time you saw him. By the time you reach the kingdom a full month has passed, you ask the guards to message the king telling him that "Y/N from his arranged marriage wanted to see him." of course you werent sure he would even respond, i mean why would he. he didnt want to marry you obviously so why should he care about seeing you, especially now that he is a KING of all things. However you were surprised when the guard came back and agreed to take you to the king.
When you entered you saw him sitting on a throne. To his left you see a young elf woman with twin braids beside him, This must have been his royal advisor maybe? you werent sure. However you did notice his sister beside her chatting with her...except she was different, she wasnt a tall man anymore..atleast not fully. you noticed a plume of fluffy white feathers poking out of the opening on her chest and down her arms. It was clear she had been changed by some form of magic.
As you walk closer laios asks if everyone can leave the room for a moment, he wants to talk privately with you as they agree and leave leaving only you and him. "So Y/N, how have things been?" He asks awkwardly, its clear he is uncomftorable and doesnt know what to say. You had thought of the things you would say to him for years now, over and over you had gone over in your head what you were going to say to the man that just up and left you like that. you would be furious and scream, sob and cry, all the words you planned to say just dissapear and all you can say is a single word. "why.."
He sighs as he rubs his neck and begins to explain, He tells you how he had began to despise his parents for how they let falin be treated, and how instead of supporting her and her talents they sent her away to the magic school on a different continent. He had grown to hate his parents (more so his father but he had no fond feelings towards his mother either) even though falin kept in contact with them. He also explained how he never felt comfortable around people, that he had always felt more comfortable around monsters...and that in truth he hated people. Plus he admits he wasnt the richest person in the world so would have been able to give you a proper dowry. All of these together made him feel like he wouldnt have been able to give you the life you deserved, he didnt want you to be stuck with a man that hated everyone around him and hated where he lived and wanted to leave and get as far away as he could. He figured that wasnt fair to you, and he didnt know how to properly convey this and let you down easily so...he ran.
The weight of his words hit you harder than you expected...all this time you thought he just didnt like you or hated you ever, or he didnt care about you at all. All this time you hated him for what he did and that you swore you would get answers one day...but these werent the answers you were expected. It would have been so easy to continue to be mad at him, if he said he just didnt like you or hated you that would have been fine..you expected it at this point, but no...he did this because he didnt want to subject you to a miserable life with him..he knew you would be miserable with him if he had stayed there and he didnt want to put you through that...god this was so much harder than you were expecting. "You know....now that im king of the golden kingdom money isnt an issue..and ive made sure the kingdom is a kind place that treats everyone with kindness." you see him slump down a bit. "and since monsters come nowhere near the kingdom...if you want, we can get to know each other better..and see how we feel about each other then?" he says softly, damn that man he was a looker. you sigh, almost relieved its turned out that way. saying you would like that

I know a lot of people (on twt at least) have pointed to dunmeshi have similarities to religious themes of cannibalism in the bible... the desire of feast/food
Dunmeshi ch. 97 spoilers!!
"The grand feast lasted for Seven days and Seven nights.
During that time, the golden kingdom slowly rose from the sea... and gradually began to return to its former appearance."
Exodus 13:6
"Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, ans in the seventh day shall be a feast to the lord"
I'm not a very religious person but I found this curious... the Golden castle is almost like a haven on earth. It wards away all monsters, and Laios sits upon a grand throne to protect the country until his death (laios resurrection already occured....) uwaaaa.... I need to analyze this more later

Happy Birthday Kabru!
Pairing: Labru Rating: Explicit A/N: Trans Kabru, use of the word cunt
You can find it on ao3 or you can read it down below!
“Laios has requested your presence in the throne room.”
Those were the words that kicked off this incredible night. Kabru had been sitting his room eating food he managed to sneak from the kitchens while he focused on his latest batch of reports. The Elven Queen had said something about wanting to have a meeting, and Kabru needed to re-read the correspondence and analyze the situation from every angle. Just as he felt like he was getting somewhere, there was a knock on his door.
“Come in,” Kabru said casually, and the door to his study opened. In the doorway stood Marcille, which surprised him. Marcille rarely came to visit him, and when she did it was usually with very important news.
“Is everything okay?” Kabru asked, setting his sandwich down. Marcille cocked her head to the side looking thoughtful.
“Yes,” she said slowly. “Laios has requested your presence in the throne room. He also requested nobody else be allowed in there for the rest of the night,” she grumbled. “To get to my lab I have to go through the throne room! So annoying.”
“Did he say why?” Kabru asked, frowning. This was an unusual request. Closing down the throne room to everyone except them? It must be serious.
“No,” Marcille said. “But he did say for you to come right away.”
“Alright,” Kabru said, and stood up. “I’ll go right now.”
“Great,” Marcille said, turning to leave. She paused, and looked back at Kabru. “Happy birthday by the way,” she said with a smile.
“Birthday? Oh! That’s right,” Kabru said. “I almost forgot.”
“You almost forgot your own birthday?” Marcille said, aghast. “You mean…you haven’t celebrated yet?”
“No. I’d rather not make a big deal about it though. I haven’t celebrated in years.”
“Why not?” Marcille asked.
“Misiril always made me eat a special kind of Elvish cake that she would get from the fanciest shops. It was gross and terrible and I always had to force a smile when I ate it. Stopped liking my birthday when I was around 8,” Kabru said, rubbing the back of his head. “It’s really not a big deal.”
“Well, I’ll need to get you something!” Marcille said enthusiastically.
“And we’ll bake you a cake like the Tallmen make! So fluffy and good!”
“You really don’t need to,” Kabru said awkwardly.
“But I want to!” Marcille said earnestly. “It’ll be tomorrow though because it’s so late…but I’ll do it! Just you wait! I won’t take no for an answer!”
“Well okay,” Kabru said with a laugh. “Thanks Marcille.”
Soon Kabru was walking down the hall towards the throne room, his face arranged in a worried expression. What could he want to talk about? What was wrong? It must be something incredibly serious. The hour was late, and to be alone for the whole night? Countless scenarios flashed through Kabru’s mind, each more dire than the next. When he arrived at the throne room, two guards stood outside of it.
“Sir Kabru,” one of them said.
“Just Kabru please,” Kabru said. “Does the King still need me?”
“Indeed,” the other guard said. There was something about his tone…his face was almost completely covered by his helmet, but Kabru could still see a smirk on his face. What was going on?
The doors opened and swiftly closed, and Kabru walked in, jaw immedietly hitting the floor. There was a table before him piled up high with foods he hadn’t seen in years, desserts he only saw in his dreams. And on the throne…
Kabru gulped. Laios was seated, no not seated, lounging on the throne. He sat at an angle, one leg thrown over an arm of the chair. He was wearing loose fitting pants and his cape…but there was no shirt to be seen. His barrel chest and soft yet strong belly were on full display, and Kabru could feel his mouth watering. It had been far too long since he’d seen his king like this.
“What are you doing?” Kabru asked, shaking his head. However, the smile on his face betrayed his true feelings.
“Wishing you a happy birthday,” Laios said, and swung his leg forward. He got up and strode over to Kabru. “I did some research, and found that there were some cookbooks left over from Utaya. I had my chefs prepare some of the dishes I found.”
“Laios…” Kabru murmured, looking at the spread before him. “You didn’t have to…but since you did, thank you.”
“Anything for you, ocean eyes,” Laios said. Kabru looked up at him, eyebrows raised.
“I haven’t heard that name in a while,” he said, and Laios looked away, an ashamed look on his face.
“I know,” he said. “It’s been way too long. And it’s my fault.”
“Yes it is,” Kabru said, picking up a small pastry and taking a bite. He let out a pleased hum and nodded in approval. “If it wasn’t for this, I might not have forgiven you.”
“I wouldn’t abandon you, you know that right?” Laios said, coming up behind Kabru and wrapping his arms around his waist. “Just…so many things have come up. And since you don’t want to share a room--”
“That would raise too many brows,” Kabru said firmly. “We’re not married, people would talk.”
“We could be,” Laios said, and Kabru froze.
“Excuse me?”
“We could be married,” Laios said.
“Laios…” Kabru said, turning around in Laios’ grasp to face him. “Do you think that’s wise? I’m your adviser.”
“I don’t care,” Laios said. “I lo--”
“Stop.” Kabru said, putting a finger to Laios’ lips. “Don’t say things you’ll regret.”
Laios gently removed Kabru’s hand and began kissing the side of his palm. “What makes you think I’d regret saying it?” he said.
“Well, you wouldn’t be able to t-take it back, because…because…” Kabru said, stuttering slightly as Laios took a finger into his mouth and gently sucked.
“You and your oral fixation,” Kabru said with a chuckle, and automatically began thrusting it in and out of Laios’ mouth. Laios let out a slight moan, and Kabru chuckled.
“You should activate the runes,” Laios said as he released Kabru’s finger, nodding towards Kabru’s crotch.
“You want dick tonight?” Kabru asked, smirking.
“You wanna know what I want?” Laios asked, his voice dropping an octave, words dripping with honey. “I want to suck you off and then have you ride me on the throne.”
“Oh, so you want the best of both worlds, I see,” Kabru said.
“Greedy.”
“Maybe,” Laios said. “I want you…all of you. It’s been so long. You want it too, right?”
Kabru bit his lip. Part of him wanted to be grumpy that Laios had let it go this long without so much as cuddling him. But the other part of him wanted sex, and wanted it now.
“Fuck yeah,” Kabru said, giving in, and Laios let out a low rumble of approval. A shudder went through Kabru, and he let out and undignified squeak as Laios pulled him in by the hips. Laios wasn’t usually this…assertive. Kabru was used to leading the show, but this was a nice change of pace.
Neither of them knew who leaned in first, but soon the sound of lips on lips filled the air, a soft moan escaping every now and then. Kabru briefly wondered if the guards would be able to hear them, but suddenly found that he didn’t really care at the moment. He threaded his fingers through Laios’ hair and gently tugged, getting a low moan in response.
“You like that?” Kabru asked, eyes hooded.
“Yes,” Laios said.
“Yes what?” Kabru asked.
“Yes sir,” Laios said.
“Very good. On your knees,” Kabru said. Laios looked like a cat who had just caught a canary as he got down on his knees, eyes bright with excitement. Kabru slowly undid his belt, and Laios let out a whine.
“Patience is a virtue,” Kabru said in a sing song voice, and Laios stuck out his lower lip.
Kabru undid his pants, and let them drop to the floor before stepping out of his underwear. Laios looked at Kabru’s cunt, hunger in his eyes.
“Want a taste before I change?” Kabru asked, and Laios nodded. He moved under Kabru and angled his head so he could swipe his tongue along the smaller man’s folds with ease. Kabru stifled his moans as Laios lapped at him, and finally pushed him away.
“Thought you wanted to suck some dick,” Kabru said. Laios wiped his mouth and nodded.
“I do,” he said. “But let loose okay? Please. Sir.” Laios added on quickly.
“What does that mean?” Kabru asked.
“I want to hear you,” Laios said. “Let me hear you.”
“Your guards…” Kabru said, and Laios shook his head.
“I paid them double not to talk,” Laios said. “It’ll be fine.”
“Well…okay,” Kabru said. He closed his eyes and touched the tattoo of several sigils that were written in an arc above his mound. He began to recite the incantation, and soon his body began to change.
“It’s so cool that you can do that,” Laios said, looking at the dick that was now before him.
“Shut up and suck,” Kabru said, but the harshness in his voice was barely there, his tone more teasing than anything. Laios nodded, and slowly took him into his mouth, reaching up and putting Kabru’s hand on top of his head. Kabru gripped Laios’ hair, and his eyes rolled back as his lover began to suck.
“Fuck…” Kabru groaned, and Laios bobbed his head faster. He lapped and sucked at Kabru’s cock, stroking him when his jaw began to ache. It was getting to be too much, and soon Kabru was thrusting into Laios’ mouth, fucking his face hard and fast. Laios relaxed his jaw, moaning around his cock. The slight vibrations sent Kabru over the edge, fireworks bursting before his eyes, and he cried out as his cum striped the back of Laios’ throat white.
Kabru felt like he was about to pass out, the orgasm had been so intense.
“Good…good job…” Kabru panted. “Now it’s your turn.”
He touched the sigils again, and soon his cock had changed back to his wet, soaking cunt.
Laios grinned, and before Kabru knew it, he had been swooped up into Laios’ arms, bridal style.
“Laios!” Kabru said, shocked, face flushed.
“What?” Laios asked innocently. Kabru knew that Laios knew full well that his displays of strength were a huge turn on for Kabru. He looked away, and Laios chuckled darkly.
“It is my turn, isn’t it?” Laios said. “I get to have you how I want you.”
“It’s my birthday,” Kabru countered.
“So you’re saying you don’t want this?” Laios asked.
“No,” Kabru grumbled, and Laios grinned, carrying him to the throne.
It took a bit of scooting around, but soon Kabru was in reverse cowgirl while Laios lounged on the throne, slowly sliding down onto his cock. Laios was an average length, but he was thick. The way he stretched Kabru open felt incredible, and Kabru’s eyes rolled back as he fully seated himself. God he had missed this. Missed getting to ride this perfect cock.
Gently, Laios thrusted up, and soon they got into a rhythm. Kabru had almost forgotten just how noisy his king was, gasps and loud cries of pleasure ripped from his throat.
“You like it?” Kabru asked. “You like me riding you?”
“Yes…yes!” Laios cried out. “I love it, I love you!” he shouted out, thrusting upwards one last time. The two of them came together, cum filling Kabru up as he wailed in ecstasy.
“I told you…not to…say that…” Kabru panted as they came down from their highs.
“Too bad,” Laios said. “I said it. I meant it. I’m not taking it back, ever.”
Kabru paused.
“Promise?” he asked.
“Promise,” Laios said.
“Then…I love you too,” Kabru said in a small voice, lifting himself off of Laios’ cock. He was suddenly pulled into a bear hug, and made a surprised sound before melting into it.
“I love you,” Kabru said again, and Laios kissed the top of his head.
“I love you too. Happy birthday Kabru.”

hi i loved this finale very much i love falin and im so happy shes back...... also im obsessed with the choice to make laios forever unable to indulge his monster autism, and making him king. ITS SO INTERESTING i love this direction even though it sucks for laios, maybe there is something to be said about how you don't always achieve the thing you want most in life and that's okay, and the life you live is still worth a lot.... and also it's so something to me that laios is being such an adult about this, like yeah he wishes he was having fun doing his own thing and he really doesn't want to be king, but SOMEONE has to and unfortunately for him he's the absolute best candidate (((PRECISELY BECAUSE OF HOW WEIRD HIS PRIORITIES ARE))), so he'll do it, AND HE'LL DO IT WELL, he'll be the awesome, competent and kind ruler, but he'll still be kinda sad and mopey about not getting what he wanted. LIKE HE'S SUCH A GOOD KING, he brought so much good into this world, but he doesn't get particularly high and mighty about it because he doesn't really care that much about being a king. HE'S SO CHILL ABOUT IT!!!! motherfucker really ushers in a time of prosperity and peace, and he's still just sitting on his throne thinking "man.......... the monsters will NEVER hang out with me........... what is this life......." I LOVE HIM SOOOO MUUUUUUUCHHHHH i love that his whole future thjng is not getting what he wanted at all but absolutely excelling at the thing hes doing (that doesn't really do anything for him). absolute icon and my personal hero
NONNIEEE YEAHHH!!! I remember back when i first read ch60 and i was like "wait... this feels wrong", not liking the idea of laios becoming a king bc i knew it wasn't what he "really wanted". but now, after reading how he actually got to that point, it makes sense. and it's still kinda bittersweet. because we know that his interest in monsters was amplified and became all consuming bc of his struggle to connect with other people, feeling alienated everywhere he went. so not being able to interact with monsters much anymore and being a king of other humans is actually forcing him to face all those fears and struggles he was running away from all this time, and learn to define himself outside of his expertise. watching the best and worst of humanity so very closely as their ruler, and finding his own place among them. but the thing is, he always had a home to return to in the few people he loved. and that's why, through all the hardships and pain, it's still worth it. he was ready to have something taken away from him and quite literally had to give up his most defining trait. so who is he now? can he manage without the comfort of monsters?
the answer is yes. he is not alone. and it may not be the most satisfying conclusion for him but it might be what he needed most. to learn how to live in peace with his own self, with the world surrounding him. and all being said, it was pointed out time and time again: how he wasn't really planning for the future, how he didn't have any strong conviction leading him. but it all changed after he killed his sister with his own hands. i think chapter 67 was a defining moment in laios's journey for many reasons, but especially this: for once, he chose not to run away. he decided that HE will be the one to challenge his fate and bend it as he wishes. otherwise, he could've given up on resurrecting falin long ago. but he didn't, not just for the sake of his sister but those people who put their faith in them and tried their best FOR them. it's ironic, how it was precisely inside the monsters' world that he was finally able to connect with the humans he despised so much in the most genuine way. and after facing the absolute worst, he can definitely find in himself the strength to deal with anything, king or not. so like you said- the man is gonna be fine somehow. i love him so much

[ID: Edited panel from Dungeon Meshi. Laios sits in his throne. His face is drawn comically blank, mouth agape and eyes spread wide apart, his pupils gazing in opposite directions. He is likely overwhelmed and possibly confused by whatever is happening.
Behind him, Kabru stands slightly hunched over. He whispers to the baffled Laios, "In other words, they're demanding compensation for something."
At the top of the panel, a tumblr post from @/autie-j has been edited in. It reads: Accommodation I should have: someone to follow me around and whisper in my ear, medieval court advisor style, how to correctly respond when presented with different social situations. "My liege, that was a rhetorical question you just heard. Do not answer it." /end ID]

Don’t tell Oedipus…
People of Thebes there is a murder among you and they are dangerous. They have murdered your king, Laios, and has gotten away with it. They live a lavish lifestyle at your expense. The murder sits on your throne and it is your new king. Oedipus is a murderer he has murdered his father and now has married his mother. The only way for this to be resolved is if Oedipus abdicated his throne and leaves Thebes forever. Edit: Just got word Oedipus is going into exile also he will be joining the cheesecake of the month for blind people club starting next month.

I mean Laios is the every man (with autism). Like, would you want to become a king if you just enjoyed going around and looking at monsters and just like existing? Probably not, because you wouldn't be able to do that as a king, you'd have to sit on a throne or some shit all day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its hilarious the juxtaposition of Main Charecter Syndrome Kabru and Im Just a Guy Laios
Kabru who keeps talking about his destiny and his journey and his self assinged mission that he is convinced he's the only one who can carry out
And the Laios who when called The Chosen One he went 'chosen? For what?' and when they told him he was propheticised to be king and he almost shit himself

I have more
senshi is the guy whos been there forever and has great patience, teaching skills, and is good at reading people. a little bit of a 'power behind the throne' where he was actually laios' mentor back when he was new, and now their relationship is as friends.
he is trained in fire and medical. chilchuck is only medical (med only calls are more common than fire) so they run a lot of medical-only calls with just the two of them and a backup crew.
they put chilchuck with him when he was first transferred because of the bad rumors around his behavior until senshi vouches for him being a decent fellow.
he likes to cook dinners and is in team under 6'0" but has been around for so long and is so built that nobody would question him on it.
chilchuck definitely fire carries someone (tallest guy on the squad? laios?) over his shoulders to demonstrate his own ability to lift. as short guys, technique is much more important than raw strength, so they actually end up being able to accomplish more than some of the young guys when space is limited
they are smoking buddies too, because it was so common back when they started, vs younger guys who would only start because of peer pressure. "Want a smoke? No? Good, keep it that way."
senshi gets attached to chilchuck as a partner and for the first time when setting up trucks does he request to stay with someone rather than offer to train the new recruit.
the two of them pose for a fundraising calendar together. laios keeps the picture. (there is a big group shot from that day with everyone soaked from "washing the trucks" and laios has his arm hooked around chilchuck's neck while chil is grabbing his waist, grinning half at the camera and half at each other. its from before they even realize they had feelings for the other.)
falin went to school out here because laios moved out here after dipping right after high school. she and marcille were close in undergrad but marcille went to a big name school while falin came out here. they live together now, because they are the bestest girls who are friends and love each other so much they don't mind sharing the bed every night.
laios has a motorcycle that chilchuck judges him for but still sits on the back when he goes for a ride. he also has a leather jacket and jeans combo that kills chil whenever they go out to a bar together. chilchuck himself is sexy in a rough around-the-edge mature man way that is so fixable if he just got in the right environment and boned, so he also gets his fair share of admirers.
and they do try to wingman each other at the gay bar but keep getting jealous of whoever the other is talking to so it doesn't work out very well. they both keep scaring away anyone who flirts with the other on accident and end up just sitting together and talking after the first thirty minutes, commenting on the slow night.
chilaios medical au idea i have been bouncing in my head (will not be written until after my current one is done)
i am thinking of a like firefighter/paramedic story for these guys. where laios is a new shift commander/chief at a small middle of nowhere station and chilchuck is a medic from a big city who keeps getting reassigned because he is trying to recruit for a union and the company is trying to make his job unworkable/find a reason to let him go.
laios was promoted because of his work ethic and ability to teach other people about the ins and outs of emergency medicine, not because he wanted to be in charge. he is too new and disinterested in the company politics to throw him under the bus for other people, and by the time someone explicitly says he needs to fire him, he has gotten attached.
"he's reliable, does good work, and catches things nobody else here would have. i know he cussed out the family trying to get into the rig, but he had already told them no and they should be grateful he saved their daughter instead of filing a complaint! even if i were to discipline, he deserves a verbal warning and not dismissal. You were not there, and i am his direct superior."
(wins the argument and walks away trying not to hyperventilate)
also falin is a surgeon and marcille is a research fellow who abandoned her big-city super-focused projects to come out into the country and work with subpar equipment and an incompetent assistant. im not thinking like full rural hospital here, but closeish to it. could be an academic satellite hospital and she switched from like gene therapy trials to studying exposures/population/histology stuff.
shifting the touden hyperfixation from monsters->medical fascination i think would still get across the same vibes. falin is very nice and pleasant but she treats everyone nicely and pleasantly without actually empathizing with them. shes one of those surgeons who went to shadow a heart transplant in college and cried because it was so beautiful and then got a bunch of scholarships plus student loans for med school.
laios hunts and has a big appreciation for the lives of things he kills and butchering/using everything he can. then it translates to him being fascinated by the human body as an object more than as a being that is different and special from other animals that he is a part of. he is a fantastic emergency responder because of this- people are a pile of flesh that is broken somewhere, and he wants to figure out why. (this is something that I'm like. not sure if it is okay for me to include because it can be squicky/triggering. but i feel like when I'm unsure if I'm going too far that is when i am reaching the line i want to?)
the touden siblings still go hiking and mudding and spend their time off in the woods (marcille wears white shorts and sandels on a hike leaving laios to be very explicit and offering clothes to chilchuck when he offers him to join. chilchuck borrows his shirt and it is way too big, but he keeps it for a while.)
chilchuck is extra divorced. he facetimes with the girls a couple of times a week and gets them on rotating holidays. sometimes ex-mrs. tims invites him over for dinner because she feels sorry for him and her new boyfriend is also there. it's awkward but they both know he's harmless, just annoying and closed off. he smokes but has tried to quit 7-8 times. started when he was an emt and couldn't shake it because it helped him destress. he only knows how to drive well enough to pass his vehicle license renewals and still doesn't know what the buttons in his car do. the ac has been "broken" for a week before a station mechanic pushes the button to turn it back on (they should put a subway around here, stupid cars).
laios respects his experience and history of being at a constantly busy station that saw a variety of crazy shit. chilchuck initially resents him for being so out of touch, but grows to respect his leadership abilities. laios also always follows up on cases at the hospital to figure out the outcome and reflect on best practices.
he is the first person to get chilchuck to actually debrief after a shitty call and chil cries and never wants to talk about it again. but its like a seal in a dam has been breached, and opens up when they are cuddling on the couch. they spend more time off shift with each other. chilchuck crashes on laios' couch and initially feels like he needs excuses to do it until laios says he really likes talking with him and having him there. he tells him about the company's EAP coverage and that he encourages everyone to take advantage of it.
in the end, they hit that threshold of basically living together, and one of them would need to change their station (superior/employee romance) after they go from making out off shift in secret to seriously considering having laios meet his daughters in person. (they already think they're married because laios is always there when they call now)
