Rita has never really had a conventional, wholesome, all-American sitcom style family. Her dad walked out before she ever met him (her mom wasn’t good enough for him, according to his parents) and her mom might have tried, for a while. She was always too involved with her own life and string of boyfriends and how many bottles she could find the bottom of to pay too much attention to Rita. It caused her to act out, to not care, to believe that she would never be loved, not really. But she did find someone, her best friend Mara McKinnon and her family took her in when they could and she got at least a taste of what growing up loved might have been like.

Has a minor chip on shoulder about her South Side roots and any kind of snobby attitude she may or may not encounter. Even the contrast between her family home and Mara's was a lot.

If there’s some kind of loud music, cheap alcohol, high heeled hooplah going on then she’s there. Rita is drawn to making mistakes like moths are to flames but what can ya do? It’s all just in good fun. What’s more is that she tends to be a bit of gossip, sticking her nose where it really doesn’t belong and hoards secrets like she really should sensible grocery products. As terrible as it is, this whole Hacker situation has her ears perked up. After all, what would Lois Lane do?

Got her TA job because her BFF's brother (the teacher) took a chance on her and she is 110% grateful- not that she feels comfortable expressing such an Emotion*TM*. But she does feel 110% comfortable flirting with him. Or anyone. She's naturally inappropriate and always says the wrong thing.

"Why does your mind immediately go to a penis joke?"

Her big secret dream is to be a writer. A serious journalist even but she'd take a salacious gossip column if it was going. Then again, that's not exactly a good topic around here these days. Either way, when she can't sleep or she's restless and bored and not doing something bad; she's writing.
