So I personally imagine that within the context of Astral Train the gods have non human forms or atleast mainly the Titans do for example Amphitrite is sentient sea salt, Thetys is a Lobster, Helios and Selene are probably giant scarab beetles, Rhea is a mountainous god that looks something similar to a Surinam Toad.

The Olympians try to seem more relatable. Unlike the titans before them they were assigned more human domains (war, marriage,crafting, music, hunting, agriculture, homes etc) and as sociatal gods they are very concerned about their "public image" so they of course take on human forms.

But these forms don't look quite right, one may be too tall, too thin, perfectly round or spherical - it's a wee bit uncanny and sometimes the "true" form might seep through in odd ways. Keeping a human form is a skill like holding your breath, there will be times where you'll need to breathe it's all about practice.

What a titan is quite broad in real life. It's mentioned that only Chronos and his brothers (and their wives) were Titans/ or all of Gaia and Uranus' children were Titans/ or all the gods that sided with Chronos during the Titanomachy were Titans but then I don't know how that explains why Hekate, Leto, Helios or Selene are considered Titans?

Maybe Titans are just the gods that were born before the Olympians reigned? That can work but then I don't know why Iris isn't considered a Titaness (I don't think she ever was but don't quote me on that)

But for this setting I'm making the Titans gods who were in power before the Olympians who embody more abstract and natural concepts who don't choose to have human forms. Titans aren't malicious against humans, they don't care they are just doing their job whether you praise them or not.

Some Titans do have a fondness for humans like Rhea and Prometheus but it's more in the way a person might love butterflies or collector Pokemon cards.

i absolutely need to try my hand at making a doodle of the entire pantheon and just mess around with proportions and palettes! in the mean time id really love to hear from you what you have in mind for them visually (headcanons and ideas gimme!) :D

ah interesting! i assumed the titles of titans and olympians were dependent on parentage, but afaik iris for example was referred to as a minor goddess rather than titaness, so perhaps its a matter of domain? a heirarchy almost based on where you stand.

alternatively zeus messed up the system lol or made changes the way a new boss sort of adds and omits with some disregard to previous infrastructure? though to me (esp during the beginning of his reign) he seems to be keen on ruling properly (w metis n thetis)
