if i ever had a question for the mcelroys it would be “if there’s a disease with a major symptom being diarrhea, would a person with chronic constipation be looking for diarrhea or regular stool if they suspected they had caught it”
#it came to me on the shitter and i was like 'too bad yahoo answers is gonna die soon this feels like a mbmbam q'#but then halfway through writing this i was like 'wait a second. sawbones and *dr.* sidnee mcelroy'#in other news i have been coughing ever since i got back from my parents' trip so i've been monitoring my sense of smell#and taste and it's been pretty good but i checked the shampoo after washing my hands and lads i could not smell it#which is concerning bc this morning i could smell it and i could taste my sour patch kids#but it's somehow vanished over the course of the day so. worrying. no fever that i'm aware of#not even really sure whom i could have caught it from if it's the plague?#but i'm really glad i wrote a MASK ALL THE TIME even when we were HIKING OUTDOORS#bc the first minor hacks were coming on the last day on the road so it probably would have been incubating the entire trip if plague#idk my dad's been vaccinated for a while now and he says he's been kinda having a dry cough in the morning too#and it's not like a huge phlegmy phlegm cough either it's mostly a dry cough which is frustrating but it reminds me to hydrate#and my mom who has also recently received her second dose hasn't been coughing either so. we'll see#i had my dad cancel my eye doctor appt today but he made me come along to best buy for the phone repairs#he was like 'eh you're not coughing that much as long as you don't cough they won't know'#which like. hello???? bc i told him i didn't wanna go bc even if it's just a cold i don't wanna just go into public COUGHING that's so RUDE#the worm speaks

I am 1 min 27 seconds into My Sister, My Sister and Me and my skin is already clear and glowing, my crops have begun an early flourish, newborn children do not weep to breathe but instead because of the beauty that this world has to offer.

The Home Depot Donates Its Entire Supply of Masks to Fight Coronavirus
Prior to the current international health crisis, most health care workers would rarely need an N95 mask. The tight-fitting respirators use non-woven fibers to keep particles as small as viroids from passing through, either in or out, and they’re excessive for most health-care uses. Physician Sidnee McElroy, doctor and educator, reports that before COVID-19, she’d only worn one on the rare…

I have seen doctors talking shit about people who read the leaflets. Even Sidnee McElroy, who I completely respect, kind of snorted about people who read the INFORMATIVE LITERATURE and then get concerned about the rare, weird side effects. I got mad on Twitter about it in comments to the direct to consumer drug advertising episode (otherwise good) because she's usually better than that. You can't say you want patients who are engaged and then look down on them for taking advantage of the FREE, ACCURATE INFORMATION that comes with your meds.
Educate yourself, and always double or triple check the work of any doctor who even blinks funny when you ask questions or mention reading you've done.
Pharmacists are great. Loads of love for y'all.
whilst i am always and forever just begging doctors to properly check interactions before they prescibe things (@ pharmacists: fuck everyone else i respect you i love you xoxo)
i am in fact also begging everyone to read the leaflets you get with your medication. if you have difficulty reading or understanding those leaflets that's fine just like... ask the pharmacist. never met one who wasn't happy to explain drugs.
but like...
"SSRIs make you less tolerant of heat" should not be a shock - it's in the leaflet. they make you sweat, give you hot flashes, and make your skin more sensitive to the sun. that's all in there.
"mixing alcohol and benzos is a Bad Time" is not a shock. it's in the leaflet to avoid alcohol.
"my ADHD meds made me not want to eat" is not a shock. it's in the leaflet that they cause appetite suppression and weight loss.
you do not have to "find out the hard way" you really don't. and bc doctors are fuckin useless at bothering to actually read and/or understand and/or explain interactions like... ever, apparently? there are plenty of places you can check for yourself or, again, just ask the pharmacist if there's anything to watch out for.
i mean asking a pharmacist about interactions is basially asking them to infodump about their hyperfixation. you're asking someone who thinks drugs are really cool to talk about drugs they are not going to be upset about this.

i listen to Sawbones (podcast by Dr Sidnee McElroy and her husband Justin) at work. things that make me happy about this podcast:
- weird and horrible medical history - sidnee laughing at justin’s bad jokes only because she loves him - hearing baby charlie cooing in the background - justin getting fed up with stupid people and his voice becoming the Taako voice
anyway i highly recommend it if you like history, medicine, and learning about stupid stuff people did to cure stuff.

The McElroys have between them something like 15 podcasts, so it depends on what you're into. Do you just wanna laugh so hard you puke? Monster Factory. Want a long-running narrative that's somehow hilarious AND plot? Adventure Zone. Do you want a tongue in cheek look at medical history, with periodically roasting Pliny the Elder? SAWBONES. Or the classic: http://satellitedish.libsyn.com/ this is a finished podcast about TV, but the final three episodes feature a drunk Sidnee McElroy trying to explain the Tyra Banks novel 'Modelland' to her increasingly hysterical husband.
Yo guys, gals and nonbinary pals- I’m going through a major depressive episode. So if I’m a little weird it’s my brain chemicals going haywaire. I love you all, hug your pets and loved ones for me.
