The stars look beautiful tonight
MASTERLIST
Pairing: Zuko x Female Reader.
Summary: Gazing at the stars at night leads them to some fun events.
Warning/Content: smut (porn without a plot).
A/N: Zuko and reader are both 18.
Tumblr media
The day was exhausting, they had trained with Aang all day long, and Y/N hoped to sleep as soon as she lay down. But sleep never came to her. After almost an hour of tossing and turning, she decided to take some air. She noticed she wasn’t the only one that couldn't sleep, seeing Zuko sitting on the ground with his back against a tree closer to the camp. Y/N walked to him, sitting by his side.
“The stars are beautiful tonight.” He says without looking at her.
“They are.” She smiles looking up at the sky too.
Zuko took a deep breath of the cool night air “I have always loved the quietness of the night. It’s so calm.”
Y/N chuckled “You’re being quite philosophical tonight.”
“Maybe I am.” He chuckles too “But it’s true, isn’t it? When you’re outside at night, everything seems different.”
“Yeah.” She looks at him with a small smile.
Zuko glances over at her “You’re different too.”
“How so?” She asked him
He leans in slightly, his voice lowering “You’re not afraid of me anymore. You used to tense up whenever I came near, but now you can just sit here and talk with me like this.”
Y/N laughed softly. He was right. She used to be tense around him when he joined them because of his past actions, but soon she warmed up to him...maybe too much “Well, you’re not trying to kill us anymore, so...”
“I guess not. Things change, huh?” He smiles slightly at her.
“Sometimes for the better.” Y/N returns his smile.
“Speaking of changes...I have been meaning to ask you something. How long have you been in love with him?” Zuko asked leaning back against the tree.
Y/N looked at him with confusion...did he noticed? “With whom?”
“You know who. Sokka.” He says watching her carefully.
“Sokka?” She asks laughing. “I’m not in love or anything like that with him, he’s like a brother to me.”
Zuko leans in again “Really? Because you always look at him with such longing in your eyes.” Of course he would think that. He probably noticed that when he was with Sokka, so he mistakes the person she was actually looking at.
“He loves Suki, Zuko. Believe me, I feel nothing like that for him” Y/N laughs softly again.
“If you say so.” He says, looking back at the sky. They kept in a comfortable silence, until her hands reached to brush his hair out of his face that was already falling in his eyes.
Zuko closed his eyes slightly, enjoying the feeling of her gently touch on him “So... you’re really not in love with him?”
“No.” She replied softly, with a small smile in the conner of her mouth.
He leans in closer to her, their faces just inches apart “I’m glad to hear that.” Zuko leans in even further, his lips brushing against her in a soft, slow kiss. She immediately kissed him back. Zuko deepened the kiss, his hand moving gently to her face. He can feel his heart racing against his chest as he pulls her closer while their tongues dance together.
As the kiss breaks, Zuko looks into her eyes. He can see the desire and need in them. Slowly, he begins to trail kisses down her neck, his hands moving to untie her top. Y/N gives more access to him and soon she’s without her top. She moves to straddles his lap, taking his top off too, making Zuko groans as their skin touches. His hands travel up her side towards her bra, pulling it off slowly and revealing her breast to his gaze. Y/N could feel him growing harder and his erection brushing against her thigh.
Zuko’s lips move to her neck again, leaving soft kisses as he makes his way to her breasts. He looks at her with his eyes dark with lust, before he takes one of her nipples into his mouth, sucking gently. That made Y/N bit her lip to hold back a moan since they’re so close to where the other are sleeping, rolling her hips against him.
Feeling her movement, Zuko groans, his hands moving to grip her hips. He continues his work in her breath, teasing her nipple with his tongue as he begins to grind against her. Y/N’s hands work quickly to open his pants, making Zuko groans again. He reaches to help her pull his pants and underwear off and she does the same with her own pants. His cock springs free, throbbing with need. Feeling her wetness against his erections, Zuko let out a moan.
Y/N positioned herself on him as she lowers herself slowly. Zuko growls softly as she rides him, his hips also moving meeting her movements, making her moan softly too as she rocks back and forth. Each second was getting harder for her to hold back her moans. Zuko bites his lips too, trying to hold back his own moans. They increase the speed, his cock thrusting deeper and harder into her as his fingers slide between them, finding her clit and rubbing softly.
This time she couldn’t hold back, she let out a loud moan escape her lips. Zuko flips them so she was laying on the ground. He continues to thrust into her, his hips slamming against hers as he takes her harder and faster. His fingers also move faster on her clit.
“Gods...” She moans again.
Zuko’s teeth graze her shoulder as he feels himself getting closer to the edge, his cock throbbing inside her as he picks up even more his pace, slamming hard into her over and over again.
“Zuko.” Y/N moans his name “I’m close...”
He was also feeling himself getting closer as well. His hips slamming against her in a brutal rhythm “Cum for me, Y/N. Let go and let me feel you come around my cock.”
With a few more thrusts, she came. Feeling her walls tighten around him, Zuko’s entire body shudders. He thrust into her one last time before his cock pulsing as he cum deep inside her. His hand gripped her hips tightly as he releases his seed into her warmth. He pulled her back as he sits against the tree against, still inside her. Y/N was panting heavily, trying to catch her breath. Zuko’s breath was ragged as well. Slowly, he pulls out of her, his softening cock sliding out of her wet fold, and she smiles as she could feel his cum dripping for her.
Zuko smiles softly at her, running his hand gently down her sides. His erection had subsided, but he still wants her. Looking into her eyes, he leans and kisses her softly again, making her respond. He runs his hand through her hair, brushing away from her face “I’m not done with you yet.”
Y/N smirks “Oh, really?”
Zuko just grins back at her, his hands sliding down her back, cupping her ass cheeks. With a groan, he stands up, lifting her with him and walking over his tent, closing it behind them. He gently lowers her onto his bedroll and crawls on tip of her, their naked bodies pressing against each other. His lips find her in a deep and passionate kiss. His hands travel down her body, exploring her curves before he slips his finger into her wetness, rubbing circles around her entrance.
Y/N moans again, still sensitive from orgasm. Zuko smirks against her lips, his fingers slipping inside her, finding her entrance still slick with their combined fluids. He begins to slowly thrust in and out her.
“Zuko...” She moans his name, her back arching. He groans, loving the way she was responding to his touch. His thumb finds her clit and begins to rub circles around it while his fingers continue to thrust in and out of her.
“Zuko...” she says again “I’m close.”
Feeling her orgasm close, Zuko picks up the pace of his fingers thrusting deeper and faster inside of her. He continues to rub her clit, knowing it will send her over the edge. She was hit by her orgasm, leaving her legs trembling. He slowly pulled his fingers out of her, watching the last of his seed slide out with a pleased smirk.
Zuko leans down and capture her lips once again. His tongue danced with hers before he begins to trail kisses down her neck and chest. He gently nips at her nipple.
“Zuko...” Y/N was still trying to recover herself.
He just chuckles softly against her skin, his hands slipping down her hips, holding her close to him as he continues to kiss his way down her body. When he reaches her stomach, he stops and looks up at her, his eyes still full of desire.
“You just gave me an orgasm.”
That made him smirk “And I plan on giving you many more”. Zuko captures one of her nipples between his lips again, gently sucking, making Y/N closes her eyes with the feeling. As he continues, his free hand slip down to rub her clit once more.
“Zuko...”
Hearing her moan his name, Zuko push his finger inside her once again, pumping in and out of her, hitting her G-spot with every thrust. His lips move back to her neck and before she knew, she was tightening around his finger again, making Zuko increase his speed and pushing another finger as she cries out his name. He didn’t stop, as he keep thrusting her.
“Zuko, please, too much.” She cried out with her legs trembling, feeling her forth orgasm hit her that night.
Zuko hears her plea, yet he doesn’t stop. He increases the pace of his fingers, his thumb once again finding her clit and his lips on her neck marking her. In seconds she was hit with her last orgasm of the night. He slowly withdraws his fingers, licking them cleans while he looks at her.
“Damn!” Y/N says, trying to catch her breath, her whole body still trembling. “You ruined me.”
He chuckles “I’m glad you enjoyed.”
Zuko lay down by her side, pulling a blanket on top of them and cuddling closer to her, his arms wrapping around her waist and pulling her body against his chest. They both fell asleep after the exhaustive activities. The next morning, they were wake by voices outside.
“Why are these clothes here?” They could hear Aang asking. Zuko wakes up, rubbing his eyes.
“Zuko?” She whispered.
“Yes?” Zuko looks at her.
“That’s our clothes...” She says looking worried at him. He sits up, blushing slightly as he realizes they had forgotten their clothes outside. “Please, tell me you have something here for us to wear.”
He looks around the tent, noticing some spare clothes lying around “Yes, I think there’s something here you can wear.”
“Good. Just give me something and I’ll get our clothes.” Zuko hands her a robe that reached her mid-thigh. “Okay, that will do.” He also slips on a loose shirt and some pants.
They didn’t hear anyone outside talking anymore, so they assumed it was safe. Y/N opened the tent, but as soon as she left, she was meet with the whole gaang there.
“Why were you in Zuko’s tent?” Sokka asked looking at her “...and why are you wearing his clothes?”
Y/N blushes. She didn’t had time to answer when Zuko follows her out and blushes too seeing everyone gathered around. Sokka slowly realized what had happening.
“Oh, no worries, Aang. We already found the owner of the clothes.” Sokka says teasing them. Katara and Toph soon realized too what had happened, making Toph laughs.
Zuko clear his throat awkwardly, trying to his embarrassment “Uh, well, we were just.... resting. There’s nothing more to it.”
Aang had a confused face to everyone until he realized what had happened and looks shocked at Zuko and Y/N.
“Who would’ve guessed, you and hot head here...” Sokka smirks.
Zuko groans, rolling his eyes at Sokka’s teasing “It’s not like that, Sokka. We were just relaxing, okay? Jeez.”
“I bet it was quite relaxing.” Katara says pointing at the marks of Y/N’s neck, making her blush.
Zuko glares at Katara, his cheeks also flushing even more “I swear, if you keep making comments like that...”
Y/N had quicky got their clothes back and pulled Zuko with her to his tend “Not a word.” She says to them. He quickly follows her. Everyone outside laughed at their reaction. Needless to say, they would be teased by this for weeks.

“Well, well, well,” Katara said, crossing her arms and glaring at Toph and Sokka. “I thought the two of you promised you were done with scamming, but judging by your expressions, that’s exactly what you just came back from doing.”
“It was our final hurrah!” Sokka said. “One last scam before we reformed for good, as you will.”
“You guys are addicted,” Katara said. “It’s a problem.”
“Nuh-uh! It’s just that it’s like gambling,” Toph said. “You can’t stop until you hit the jackpot!”
“And boy oh boy did we hit the jackpot, alright!” Sokka cheered, shoving you in front of him, holding onto your shoulders like a proud father. “Take a look at this — the princess of the Earth Kingdom!”
“Huh?” Katara said, her eyes widening as you waved at her awkwardly.
There was a blast of air, and then Aang was standing in front of you, his jaw slack. He looked different — where once he had kept his head shaved, in keeping with the tradition of the Air Nomads, he now had dark, curly hair tied out of his face with a headband that handily covered his arrow mark. Like the others, he wore Fire Nation clothes, and you found that the blacks and reds were particularly jarring on him. If it were not for his large, shimmering eyes and enormous, crooked grin, you might not have recognized him at all, but as it was, there was no mistaking him for anyone else.
“Princess Y/N? You’re alive?” he said, beaming at you. Sokka shook you by the shoulders.
“She is, and we only found out because of that final scam! So, Katara, you should be happy with us,” he said.
While it was certainly uncomfortable to be treated as Sokka’s demonstrative tool, you were somehow comforted by it. There was a sort of acceptance, a friendship in the way he was tossing you about. It was the kind of relationship you had always longed for, so you did not swat him away despite his rough treatment.
“I don’t understand, though. Your brother told us you were dead,” Katara said. “The Soldiers of Agni collapsed the wing of the palace where the royal chambers were, didn’t they?”
“No,” you said. “I did. Didn’t Kuei tell you I’m an Earthbender? I brought the palace down so that the Soldiers of Agni could not pursue my brother.”
“He did mention it, but he didn’t say anything about how strong you were,” Aang said.
“Likely he didn’t know,” you said. “That, and I’m not really as skilled as it might seem. There were…a lot of circumstances surrounding that feat.”
“Either way, an entire section of a building came down upon you,” Katara said, her face softening as she pulled you into a gentle embrace. “Are you alright?”
“I managed to survive,” you said. “I’m still not quite sure how it all played out, but somehow, I ended up in the Fire Nation capital, which is where I’ve been since the city fell.”
“The Fire Nation capital?” Sokka said in alarm as Katara let you go. You returned to Sokka’s side, for he had somehow become like a beacon of safety for you. A rescuer. He always bumbled his way into — not into saving you, but into somehow taking your hand and yanking you behind him to the very place you needed to be. And at the moment, when you were so lost, such a person was invaluable.
“I attended the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, under the alias of Ursa,” you said, still barely able to say the name without seething. “The best way I can describe the situation is by saying that I was a prisoner of Prince Zuko’s, no matter how well he treated me. I was denied access to my memories so that I did not flee, and refused my identity so that I did not rebel. It is only through sheer chance and luck that I was able to escape at all.”
“They wiped your memories?” Toph said. “Yikes.”
“I got them back,” you said, gritting your teeth. “But enough of the past. It doesn’t matter. I’m here now, and I will retake my kingdom. If Kuei is alive, as you say he is, then we must meet up with him at once, so that we can begin to strategize about how we should best take back Ba Sing Se. At the moment, I’m leaning towards the day of the black sun, as the eclipse will ensure the resident Firebenders cannot fight back. Although, that doesn’t solve the problem of the Dai Li…”
“Er, there’s a slight issue with that,” Sokka said. “None of us know where your brother is.”
You paused, your train of thought screeching to an abrupt halt. “What?”
“It was when we reached the Southern Water Tribe’s fleet that it happened,” Katara said. “We got off of Appa and told the Earth King to come with us onto one of the boats, where he would be safe, but he refused.”
“Why would he do that? He’s never been the brave type. Turning his nose up at a guarantee of safety is out of his character, even if he did have Bosco at his side,” you said. “Wait. He did have Bosco, right?”
“I don’t think anything in the world could separate him from that bear,” Toph scoffed.
“Likely not,” you agreed.
“He said that he couldn’t let your sacrifice be in vain,” Sokka said.
“That is to say, he didn’t want you to have died for nothing. You had given up your life for the Earth Kingdom, and yet it had fallen regardless. He couldn’t handle it. He swore he would do something, find some kind of retribution, and then he just—”
“He just vanished!“ Sokka completed, cutting Katara off, prompting her to roll her eyes at him. He wiggled his fingers at you. “Poof, like magic!”
“He rode away on Bosco,” Toph said. “I’m blind, and even I know that much.”
“I was trying to tell the story with dramatic effect!” Sokka said, pouting at you. “No one appreciates my storytelling skills around here.”
Tentatively, you patted him on the shoulder. “I am very entertained.”
“Oh, brother. You’ve unleashed a monster,” Aang said. “Good luck.”
“Going back to the original line of thinking,” you said, though not without furrowing your brow at Aang in confusion at his defeated tone. “Kuei. He really just disappeared?”
“We saw him ride away on Bosco—”
“No, we didn’t!”
“—but we don’t know where he went or what he’s doing now,” Katara said, not even blinking at Sokka’s interjection. “He didn’t tell us. I mean, he could be anywhere by now, and who knows what he’s up to? It’s a mystery. I wish we could help you find him, but we have to focus our efforts on preparing for the invasion.”
You frowned. So, then, Kuei was alive, but that was the extent of the knowledge you had about his whereabouts. It had to be enough, because it was all you could get, but though you held the proof of his continued existence close to your heart, it still rang hollow. Because what if things had changed? What if he had been captured in the days since you had seen him last?
There was only one thing you could do: trust in him wholly and completely. Your dear brother, who had miraculously escaped Ba Sing Se during its fall and survived to find the Avatar, was obviously not as helpless as you had originally thought him to be. If he had lived until that point, then you had to believe that he would continue to do so.
And with regards to what you had to do next…there, too, only one method was clear. If you wanted your kingdom back, if you wanted to see your brother again, then you could not charge into an attack blindly, with no planning or support. You had to be careful, thorough, logical.
Taking a quick inventory of your current assets as you had been taught to do in the academy, you found that the outlook was grim. An injured hawk. Some clothes. Letters from a person you hated. A version of Earthbending. These were the things which were fully your own.
In terms of allies, you had Katara, Sokka, Aang, and Toph, as well as their associates, but all of them were focused solely on the invasion, where they planned on taking the Fire Nation royalty down. Until that objective had been completed, you could not count on their help. Destroying the Fire Nation royalty, though, would also aid your case, so this wasn’t something you begrudged them for. In fact, you were even pleased by it, as it at least made your immediate steps clearly defined.
“What can I do to help?” you said.
“With what?” Sokka said.
“The invasion,” you said. “There must be some way that I can participate. It is a nation for which I hold a special hatred, so you cannot blame me for wanting to aid you in taking them down.”
“It’s too dangerous,” Katara said immediately. “What if you get captured again? Or if you die for real this time?”
“It would be a problem,” you said. “Since Kuei’s status is uncertain, he is effectively dead, at least in the legal sense, leaving me as the only one left to rule upon the retaking of the Earth Kingdom. I understand that. It would be foolish to risk a future monarch, but that doesn’t mean I’ll sit idly by and let others fight my battles. I’ve spent my entire life locked away like that, and I refuse to be as useless ever again.”
Katara cocked her head at you quizzically. “I guess all of that is true as well, but actually, I was just worried about you.”
“You shouldn’t be,” you said. “I’ve probably killed thrice as many people as the rest of you. Don’t forget that all but one of the Soldiers of Agni fell at my hands, and even that one has a body so ruined that he cannot be considered anything but pitiful now. The most elite Firebending force in the world, and it was destroyed by me. Even though it was an extreme case, and probably not a replicable one, it’s not meaningless, either. I’m not someone you need to worry for.”
“It’s not,” Aang said. “It’s really impressive. But Katara’s right — involving you in the invasion outright isn’t a good idea. I don’t want to risk anyone if it’s avoidable, and since our plans already don’t factor you in, there’s no point in adding you if it’s unnecessary.”
You wanted to argue, but no matter how much you disliked it, you knew that what they were saying wasn’t wrong. Getting involved with the invasion when things were so precarious already was foolhardy, but that didn’t mean that it sat well with you.
“Alright,” you said. “I will not insist on it, just as long as you can promise me one thing.”
“Sure, what?” Aang said, cheerful at how easily convinced you had been.
“Don’t kill Prince Zuko,” you said.
“Don’t kill him?” Katara said. “Why wouldn’t you want us to do that? He’s hurt you immeasurably!”
“Obviously, she respects the value and sanctity of life!” Aang said, smiling and nodding in a self-satisfied way. “Consider it done, Y/N.”
“No,” you said. “It’s because I have a score to settle with him, and I want to do it personally.”
“Oh,” Aang said. “That’s not what I was hoping for.”
“I’m sorry, Aang,” you said. “I respect your ideals; I admire them, even, but at the end of the day, I cannot share them. It’s selfish, perhaps, and vengeful, but the truth is that I want Prince Zuko to live through the invasion, for no other reason than because the one to kill him has to be me.”
The moon was a silver gash in the velvet sky, surrounded by pinpricks of starlight that matched it in color. It reflected on the water that you gazed into as everyone slept, the silence of the night occasionally punctuated by a loud snore from Aang or mutters from Toph, who was apparently a sleep-talker.
Bian had taken to Momo and Appa, the flying lemur and bison that were Aang’s traveling companions. You had been worried that she might’ve tried to eat Momo, but whether it was her injured state or Momo’s intelligence, she had done nothing of the sort. In fact, she was overly affectionate towards him, preening his fur like he was her chick and forcing him to sleep tucked under the wing she had not broken. Even now, that was where she was, roosting on Appa’s broad forehead, Momo pressed to her side, and though you longed for her companionship, you did not dare wake her.
“What a turn of events,” you said with a sigh, hugging your knees to your chest and resting your cheek against them. “The greatest friend I have is my hawk, and even she has left me.”
You wished Jia-Li and Ty Lee were with you. It was counterintuitive, of course — they were Fire Nation, and your identity as Ursa and therefore as their friend was a false one, so any relationship that you had had with them could be considered nothing but a lie. But they were the closest to genuine friends that you had had in your life — especially the unassuming Jia-Li, who had not even had any hand in your past predicament.
At this point, you would even take Kaho. Cruel, horrible Kaho…you wished you could see her again and tell her that the fight she had sworn her life to was a worthless one. Now that you knew more, now that you had memories of your own, you did not detest her. You were only sad for her. You thought that if things had been different, the two of you might’ve been friends.
Or perhaps not. Perhaps you never would’ve been anything more than a daughter of mud to her. It was possible. You wished most of all that there had been a chance for you to find out how much of her hatred was her own, and how much was her being yet another mouthpiece for the Fire Nation’s doctrines.
“Having a tough time sleeping?”
You looked up at Sokka, who plopped down beside you, mirroring your position, though he stared up at the moon fondly instead of shying away from it.
“Yes,” you said.
“Me, too,” he admitted. “The closer and closer we get to the day of the invasion, the more and more scared I become. I mean, this is my plan. If it fails horribly, it’s my fault. Everyone’s risking their lives for an idea I came up with, and I don’t even know if it will work.”
You glanced over at him, only to find that he was no longer staring at the moon. When your eyes met his, he smiled slightly, and hesitantly, you smiled back.
“It doesn’t have to work,” you said.
“What? Yes, it does, or else the Fire Nation will win! If Aang can’t take Fire Lord Ozai down during the eclipse, then we’ve as good as lost,” he said.
“No wonder you’re so nervous,” you said. “You think that the outcome of this entire war is riding on one day, one event, but wars aren’t like that. Even if Fire Lord Ozai is defeated, someone will take his place. Be it Prince Zuko or some general who steps up to seize power in the ensuing confusion or another person entirely, things will not stop just because of one man’s death. The problems in the Fire Nation are rooted far more deeply than that.”
“What do you mean?” he said, his brow creasing.
“Propaganda,” you said. “Oppressive policies and laws. Prejudice. Children forced to become soldiers. An economy that, believe it or not, is falling apart because of the war. Education and literacy rates which are facing the same fate. To be sure, the Fire Nation is the aggressive party, but they, too, have been suffering for the past one hundred years. They, too, have deteriorated over the course of this great conflict; the difference is that these problems have led them to rally behind the leader of their government in the hopes that he will liberate them. Once, it was Fire Lord Sozin, and then it was Fire Lord Azulon, and now it is Fire Lord Ozai. Tomorrow, it may be someone else entirely, but mind you, it will be someone.”
He was quiet for a moment, mulling over your words before nodding, his shoulders dropping as he came to understand that you were right.
“They call my sister and I snow savages,” he said. You reached out, placed your hand atop his, which was rough and solid, cool to the touch and littered with scars. You did not try to grip it; you only let your own, which was warm and delicate in comparison, rest there on the back of his palm.
“I’m a daughter of mud, apparently,” you said. “They’re very creative here, aren’t they?”
He chuckled. “Yeah, you could say that.”
“It’s not that the entire Fire Nation is bad,” you said. “I lived amongst them, so I can say that with firsthand experience. The people are proud, but kind. It’s just that there are wider-scale issues which affect all of them and thus taint our perceptions of the country as a whole.”
“So what, then?” he said. “Is this invasion doomed? If it doesn’t even matter if we defeat Fire Lord Ozai, then why are we risking everything in pursuit of that goal?”
“You’re a smart boy,” you said. “Maybe you should mull it over for a few days and speak to me then.”
“But you think we should still invade?” he checked.
“I do,” you said. “I’m not some kind of spirit that would push you to make the wrong decision for my amusement. It’s the thinking behind it that’s flawed, the expected outcome that you need to consider. But those refinements can be made at a later date. At the moment, the bigger question is why you hold my opinion in such a high regard. It’s not as though I’m some military leader.”
“You studied at the greatest military academy in the world while you were in the Fire Nation,” he reminded you. “And, to be honest, you’re one of very few people who can claim to have actually dealt the Fire Nation a substantial blow over the course of the war. There’s no other, more qualified opinion than yours.”
“What a turn of events,” you said again, for lack of a better turn of phrase to describe your thoughts. “I wonder if he regrets it.”
“Who regrets what?” Sokka said, his hand flexing under yours, like he had considered grabbing it before changing his mind.
“Prince Zuko,” you said. “He’s the one who had the idea to send me to the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, after all. It’s by his design that I spent so long learning the ways of warfare and politics, which even before I did not understand as thoroughly as I do now.”
“Wow,” he said. “I knew he was dumb, but not that dumb. If he knew who you were, then why’d he have you enroll there? He had to have understood that you’d remember at some point, and that you’d use everything you’d learned against him.”
“I’m not sure,” you said. “That’s the final thing I want to ask him. Why did he do what he did? What was his reasoning, his thought process? I’m confused about it all. In the end, it doesn’t matter, but there’s an old part of me that’s curious nonetheless.”
Sokka was a good person. He didn’t question what you meant by that; he only hummed in agreement.
“When I was younger, my father taught me how to navigate using the stars,” he said after a bit, pointing at the sky. “He said that as long as you can find that star right there, as long as you can follow it, you’ll never be lost. You’ll always find your way back home.”
“I see it,” you said. “It’s beautiful.”
“Maybe it can help you,” he said.
“Hm?” you said.
“You’re pretty far from home, too, just like Katara and I. If we follow that star, though, then someday…” he trailed off helplessly, turning back to the moon.
“Someday, we can go back,” you said. “Yes, I believe that that’s true.”
“I’ll think about what you said,” he said, incredibly seriously. “About the invasion, and about winning. I’ll tell you what I’ve figured out before we go, okay?”
“I look forward to it,” you said.
“If I get it wrong, though, you have to tell me the right answer before we run into things looking like idiots,” he said.
“Of course,” you reassured him. “I’m not in the business of withholding information for no good reason — I just think that it will be beneficial for you to draw your own conclusions instead of solely relying on others. It’s likely you’ll come up with things that I missed, too, so it’s a collaborative exercise.”
“You’re pretty wise, considering you didn’t leave your palace that long ago,” he said.
“It’s as though I’ve lived a hundred lifetimes in such a short span,” you said. “Every minute I spent as Ursa aged me by years, I think.”
“That’s a pretty name, by the way,” he said. “Ursa.”
“Prince Zuko gave it to me,” you said. “I think they said it was his mother’s.”
“Never mind,” he said. “It’s not that pretty after all.”
You snorted. “Right.”
“Listen,” he said. “This is a little random, but since I’m pretty sure the others are well and truly asleep, I want to say it now: I think it’s a waste for you to not participate in the invasion.”
“Do you?” you said.
“Aang and Katara are right, of course — it is dangerous, and the less people that can get hurt, the better,” Sokka said. “But you’re also a really powerful ally, and it’s dumb of us if we don’t recognize that.”
“What are you suggesting? Shall I don a mask and dark clothing and sneak along for the ride?” you said.
“No, why would you do that?” he said.
“It’s a joke you wouldn’t understand,” you said. “Unless you’ve read The Mask of the Blue Spirit at some point?”
“I don’t think that one ever reached the Southern Water Tribe, sorry,” he said.
“It’s not that good, anyways. Sorry for interrupting,” you said.
“It’s fine. Now, like I was saying, you shouldn’t advertise the fact that you’re there or anything — unless you want to become a target — but I think that it’ll be better for you to be with us. At the moment, my only idea for your role is to have you stay with anyone that might get injured during the battle so that you can protect them,” he said.
“Defending the wounded?” you said. “I can get behind that.”
“So it’s a good idea?” he said.
“Don’t doubt yourself so much,” you said. “It’s a really good idea. In fact, I’d even dare to call it perfect. It also says something about your character.”
“Hopefully not something bad,” he said, cringing preemptively.
“It tells me you care about your people,” you said. “You want someone strong to defend them if they should fall. It’s a good way to ensure the loyalty and longevity of your army…but it’s also a sign that you’re the kind of leader anyone would be happy to follow. The kind of leader who has everyone’s best interests at heart, not just their own.”
He reddened. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“I know,” you said. “That’s what makes it so telling. Are you still too worried to sleep?”
“Not anymore,” he said. “Thanks, Y/N.”
“Ah, anytime,” you said.
“What about you?” he said. You shook your head ruefully.
“No, I’m still thinking,” you said.
“About what? You talked to me, so it’s only fair I do the same,” he said.
“There’s someone I miss,” you said. “Or, no. I miss who they used to be. Who I thought they were. It’s not who they really are, I know that now, but for a time, I really…well, I mean, it’s unimportant.”
“You loved them,” Sokka said. “I have no idea who you’re talking about, but it’s pretty obvious.”
“Yeah,” you said. “I did. It was the greatest mistake I could have ever made, but I made it.”
If only you had never escaped through Quynh’s doors. If only you had never gone into the city. If only you had done as you were told, then the kingdom never would’ve fallen. Things would be alright. Your selfish desires had driven Ba Sing Se to ruin, and yet here you sat, mourning the very catalyst which had turned the walls of the impenetrable city to dust.
“If you could say anything to them, what would it be?” he said.
“I’d wish for their death,” you said vehemently. Sokka flinched back in surprise, but you paid him no mind. “Don’t get confused. I have no affection nor fondness left in me for this person.”
“You talk about killing and stuff so easily,” he said.
“It’s not like I like it,” you said. “I cried after killing Captain Chhay. It was an overwhelming act, but my — my mother, she told me that in order to ensure peace, I had to mete out death in equal measure. She said that if a person threatened me or the people I love, then I could not allow them to exist. So, that’s that.”
“Your mother? I thought she was, uh, you know?” he said uncomfortably, gesturing with his hands to get his point across.
“She is,” you said. “I do not refer to the woman who brought me into this world but rather the great bear spirit, mother of the Earth Kingdom. Quynh.”
“Quynh?” he said, face scrunching in thought. “Wait, I think I know her story. Isn’t it the myth of the bear that ate too much and had to be locked away so that it did not devour the entire world?”
“No,” you said, giving him an incredulous look. “That was a serpent, not a bear, and besides, that’s a story from the Northern Water Tribe. Quynh was one of the founders of the Earth Kingdom, alongside Shan, who was my ancestor. She died during the construction of the palace, but she was brought back after Shan struck a deal with Father Glowworm, a deal which gave her immortality and the power of doors, amongst other things.”
“Oh, right,” Sokka said. “I’ve heard of this one, too.”
“She’s real,” you said. “I mentioned her once before, remember? Her power is the way that I managed to go into Ba Sing Se without anyone knowing, as well as how all of the servants and my brother escaped when the palace fell.”
“Yup, I remember!” he said.
“In the absence of my parents, she all but raised me. I miss her more than anyone, except Kuei,” you said. “Bar him, she was the closest thing to family I had, but unlike with him, I didn’t get to wish her anything even close to a farewell. The only consolation I have is that she knows I am alive, given that she can feel when members of Shan’s line die, and that she is alive, because as an immortal spirit, she is unkillable, and she resides in a place far beyond even the Fire Nation’s reach.”
“If she’s so powerful, then why’d she let the palace fall?” he said.
“By my command, she was concentrating on evacuating the servants and Kuei,” you said. “Then, once that was complete, it was too late. I had already sacrificed myself. I didn’t give her the chance to help me. I didn’t give anyone the chance, because I didn’t want anyone else to go down with me.”
“I’m sorry,” he said. “We would’ve stood by you, if we had been there. I would’ve. Until the very end.”
You swallowed back the tears that threatened to make an appearance at his words. You had never had someone who had promised to be at your side through everything. You had had protectors, and you had protected others in turn, but never in your life had you had an equal. Someone who relied on you as much as you relied on them. Someone who would stay with you, even through the pain of imminent death.
“You’re a really good friend,” you said. “I’m glad I met you.”
“I’m glad, too,” he said. “Even if it’s a little embarrassing to think about the fact that I made you wear my clothes and do cartwheels that first time.”
“Did you ever perfect the move?” you said. He sprang to his feet.
“I did! Wanna see?” he said.
“Go ahead,” you said. Taking a step back, he broke into a run before using his left leg to push off into a perfect cartwheel. You clapped when he landed squarely on his feet again and spun to face you.
“What do you think?”
“Excellent work,” you said. “Though I don’t know how many practical applications such a skill would have, it’s always good to learn new things.”
“That’s what I told the others when they made fun of me!” he said.
“Everyone has different priorities,” you said diplomatically. He shrugged and then yawned. You winced as you realized how late it had gotten, and how tired you yourself had grown.
“Sorry,” he said. “I don’t mind staying up longer.”
“No, it’s alright. We should sleep. There’s no sense in staying up needlessly; it’s important for us to conserve as much energy as we can, so that our bodies are in the best possible conditions for the invasion,” you said.
“Do you think you can?” he said. “You made me feel a lot better, but I don’t really think I helped you in the same way.”
“You helped,” you promised him. “Just by talking to me, just by being my friend…you helped.”
“We’re all your friends now,” he said, lowering his voice as you both grew nearer to where the others were. “Katara, Toph, Aang, and I. You can count on all of us.”
“I don’t want to be a burden, but I thank you for the offer,” you said.
“That’s not how friendship works,” he said, tossing a blanket over to you. “We all look out for one another. There’s no burden involved.”
“Interesting,” you said, pulling the blanket up to your shoulders. “Then, if you are not opposed, I think I would not mind relying on you a little bit. Just as long as you rely on me, too.”
“Yeah, no worries,” he said. “I’ll rely on you a ton, trust me.”
“Thank you,” you said. “Good night, Sokka.”
“Good night,” he said. “I’m happy you’re alive, Y/N.”
“Me, too,” you said, not feeling quite so lost anymore, not when you were surrounded by people you could truly trust, not when a certain star shone down on you, like a promise that one day, you could follow it all of the way home. “Me, too.”

Heart of a Warrior
AN; Request by 🦢 !!! Omg I absolutely love this idea sm, I had a little field day w this one 😘😘 But tbh I didn't know how to end this too the ending is kinda rushed and bad !!! Also for this js imagine Sokka and Suki r 20 and reader is 18 !!(It doesn't matter but Katara and Aang r still 12/14 !!) AND ONE MORE THING OMFG anyways just imagine that the gaang stayed at kyoshi for a little bit longer like 2 weeks before the fire nation came. (why does it feel so weird writing a fic for Sukis' sister x Sokka like dam she rlly stole her sisters man 😭😭)
Pairing; Sokka x afab!reader(romantic), Suki x afab!reader(family)
summary; When the gaang visits Kyoshi Island to ride some Koi fish, Sokka seems too distracted too even try to figure out whatever is going on with Katara and Aang. And distracted by a certain younger Kyoshi Warrior
warnings; not proof read!!, angst(?), sumwhat sfw ? semi one sided enemies to lovers
You sighed, wiping off the lengthy make up you wear to be a warrior. You loved being a Kyoshi Warrior more than anything, but it was tiring. You were two+ years younger than everyone else so Suki, your older sister and the leader, let you take breaks every so often. Luckily she said you can take the day off. You started to lay down to take a nap when you heard running and yelled outside, in your pjs you ran to grab your fan and went quickly outside. Staring at the trio that was tied to the podium you were star struck. Their clothes were so different than anything you have ever seen. You had honestly(but luckily) been sheltered to only have to know clothing from the earth kingdom and Kyoshi island. After debating between the three and your sister, the young bald monk was revealed to be the avatar. Something about it irked you and you rolled your eyes. When you looked back you had caught the attention of a water tribe boy who seemed to be your sisters age. he started to walk over and talk to you, but nothing peaked your interest. Mostly just him giving back handed sexist compliments.
"Your sister is pretty strong for a girl!" He chuckled, obviously annoyed he was ambushed by girls.
"Uh huh" not giving him common curtesy to look him in the eyes.
After a few more comments you simply zoned him out. Well until he asked something that you were actually interested in.
"Sooo.. are you one of the painted fighters too?"
"Um. A Kyoshi warrior? Yea I am" and he gave an interesting look so with that you walked off sighing to yourself. The first outsiders to visit during this 100 year war had to be the most uninteresting people ever. (Cuz honestly you weren't completely convinced the Avatar was here on good terms, he'd probably just lead the fire nation here.)
For the next few days you saw Sokka try and learn how to fight like a Kyoshi Warrior. It kind of disgusted you, you know he just wanted to be better than Suki, but luckily she was the best of the best so you had nothing to fear.
Suddenly you found your feet moving towards the duo practicing, against your will. You knew you disliked Sokka, you avoided him as much as possible. It was baffling to you how different he is from his sister, at least you could stand her. Once you reached the two you sat on a near-by tree stump. Sokka looked over mid attack and absolutely fumbled falling straight on his face. You rolled your eyes and his face went bright red. For the hour that you watched them, Sokka missed every hit and took every hit thrown at him. By this time you were annoyed, instead of finding it humorous. It was like he was trying to be funny and mess with a sacred art form. Frustrated, you loudly groaned and walked away. Sokka knew he had messed up, he wanted to be good, he wasn't sure if it was for him or for you. He thanked Suki and ran off to find you.
Practicing all your moves you had learned over the course of your young teenage life, you left someone creep behind you. Stopping what you're doing you turn around, expecting Suki, but finding Sokka. You simply crossed your arms expecting him to speak.
"You saw me practice today" he uttered embarrassed
"Indeed I did," rolling your eyes
"I didn't mean to mess up, I was just nervous with you watching!"
"Whatever you say water boy, just stay out of my way and stop making a fool out of yourself." you turned back around and tried expanding your fan, but suddenly a hand was on your wrist and your hip, spinning you around instantaneously. Sokka's face was mere inches from yours, he looked down at your lips and back up to your eyes making the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
"Why won't you give me a chance?" he whispered low
Your mind whirred, 'chance for what? Why does he want a chance? Why is he so close?'
"Um what do you mean?" you gulped loudly
He let go of you lightly, "Why don't you give me a chance to show you I'm not who you think I am, I'm strong and a warrior."
You immediately scoffed "Yea right, what I saw today really showed that." this obviously pissed Sokka off, and he lowered his head down to stare at you in the eyes. Suddenly you could smell him, taking a moment to appreciate how clean he kept himself, you gathered and studied every inch of his face. Pausing to look at how nice his lips looked in the light. A moment of silence was suddenly broke.
"Like what you see?" He said smirking, leaning in to close the distance between yours and his lips.
You yelped loudly before throwing him over your shoulder and running away.
After what happened it was easy to ignore him and his practices. But your heart didn't want to, some how that stupid pony tail boy made you yearn for him. But your brain knew it wasn't a good idea to fall for a strange boy, let alone let him know that. But fate was against the organ in your head and as you turned the corner you saw, once again, your sister practicing with the water tribe boy. You walked up to them to watch but this time when Sokka noticed you, he gave it his all. Easily overpowering Suki, her face turning bright red that you could see through the makeup. Sokka crossing his eyes and giving a smug look. Your jaw dropped and you felt something inside your stomach, a tight knot that wouldn't untie. Sokka walked over to you after thanking Suki and bowing to her.
"How was that?"
you just stared at him, shellshocked. Causing him to laugh he rolled his eyes at you, he wrapped one hand around your waist and one around the back of your neck pulling you in for a kiss.
You eased yourself into it, kissing back. Your brain knew it was wrong but what was so bad with letting your heart win?
"Well Sokka, you do have the heart of a warrior." you laughed before leaning in for another kiss.

Arsonist's Lullabye
Chapter 2: Wasteland, Baby!
Summary: Y/n makes new friends, and Zuko….tries.
Pairing: Zuko x fem! reader (Live Action or Animated)
A/N: Not “this is me trying” starting to play as I was writing Zuko’s pov…Anyways, this is a long chapter, which is why it took me so long to write. I was struggling a bit, but I think it came out good! I would love any feedback / constructive criticism to help me improve on the story.
Word Count: 1,897
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am merely a nerd who hyperfixates a lot. Lots of divergence from the canon story lol.
Warnings !: Zuko is insecure, Mentions of bullying, I think that’s it?
Tumblr media
Y/n was excited to start classes. After all, she was a social butterfly, floating around from person to person like flowers in a garden.  Her morning sociology class was pretty small for a lecture, but it was full of interesting new people.
But there was one person who stood out to her most. A girl with jet black hair, held in a bun at the top of her head with a gold pin, and golden eyes with an intensity enough to make even the most powerful cower. She wore a bright red long sleeved top under a black tank top, with matching black pants and black leather boots. She stood strongly, and with perfect posture. But Y/n noticed how she stood off to the side of the room, all by herself. Maybe the girl was intentionally avoiding people? Y/n thought. Or maybe, the mere aura of this girl was strong enough to deter people away from her. Either way, Y/n was intrigued.
As their classmates mingle about, asking the same two questions over and over again, Y/n quietly snuck next to the girl. She took notice of her height. If the girl’s hair was down, the two of them would be about the same height. Y/n quietly took in her presence in an attempt to learn more about her.
“Who are you?” The girl snapped, looking Y/n up and down, sizing her up.
Y/n brushed off the hostile advance as if it were nothing.  “I’m Y/n. I’m a second year psychology major. And you?”
The girl appeared a little surprised. Perhaps she was used to people being scared, or intimidated by her.
“...Azula.” The girl replied.
Y/n nodded. “Well Azula, what is your year and major?”
“I’m a first year business administration major…”  Azula responded, clearly uninterested in the rest of the conversion. Y/n wasn’t an idiot. She could tell when people were not in the mood to converse.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Azula. If you actually feel like talking, I’ll be over there.” And with that, Y/n left, fluttering away to a brand new person on the other side of the lecture hall, leaving Azula thoroughly confused, and kind of impressed.
~
When Katara and Y/n had lunch last friday, the younger girl had insisted that Y/n had lunch with her, Sokka, and their friends. To which Y/n happily accepted, of course.
The dining hall buzzed with high spirits as students lined up to get their lunch. Looking out amongst the crowd, she spotted the group of friends, their laughter and their energetic conversations added to the noise within the room.
Sokka was the first to spot her, “Y/n!” He said, bringing the girl to the group's attention. There were 5 of them at the table, an air-nomad boy sat next to Katara, and next to him sat a short girl in green, then Sokka, and another girl next to him.
“You guys this is Y/n, my mentor for the scholarship program Sokka and I are a part of!” Katara took hold of Y/n’s arm, leading her to sit in between her and the taller girl. The girl in question smiled at y/n.
“Nice to meet you y/n! I’m Suki-”
“My girlfriend!” Sokka cut her off in an excited tone. Suki narrowed her eyes at Sokka, making the boy reel it back a little.
“Yes. I am indeed Sokka’s girlfriend. That’s Toph and Aang, Katara’s boyfriend.” Suki pointed at the short girl and the air-nomad boy. Aang smiled while Toph gave a little nod of her head.
“It’s so nice to meet you guys. Katara and Sokka talk about you a lot.” Y/n said with a smile.
“So Y/n, what do you like to do?” Toph asked curiously, her unseeing eyes trailing around the area where y/n sat.
“Well, I’m a psych major, and I minor in Water Tribe studies. I practice water-bending sometimes too..” Y/n trailed off.
“You’re a water-bender? Why didn’t you mention it before?” asked Katara.
Y/n Shrugged. “I’m not very good. Plus my parents are kinda…disconnected from that part of our culture.”
The group nodded in sympathy. The rapid urbanization of their nations left no room for things like the practice of bending. Nowadays, only the rich, as well as some members of the Water Tribe, continue to teach their children bending. It was almost more common for people to not know bending than to know it.
Amidst the clinking of utensils and the hum of conversation, the group of friends savored their lunch, grateful for the simple things. They rattled on about going to Toph’s Power Disc game next week, and watching Suki in the Kyoshi color guard. Out of the corner of her eye, Y/n saw a certain cashier. She turned her head to look at him completely, which grabbed the attention of Katara.
“Ugh. Zuko.” She said with a roll of her eyes.
Y/n perked at the mention of his name. “You guys know him?”
“Unfortunately, yes. Why do you ask? ” Katara stabbed into her food, causing Aang to put a hand on her shoulder, calming her down.
“I met him at the Jasmine Dragon.” Y/n explained vaguely. Based on the reactions around the table, she knew she probably should not have asked about him.
“We went to high school together…He wasn’t the nicest back then.” Aang explained.
Sokka scoffed at Aang’s passivity.
“He burnt Toph’s feet. He literally shoved you into a locker! That’s like, some shit you’d see in a mover!” Sokka exclaimed in an over the top fashion.
Toph shrugged, “That was an accident. We were sparring in PE-”
“Toph, you’re a 5 foot tall blind girl-”
“Hey! I’m 5’1!”
Aang tried his best to get his friends to settle down.
“Okay that’s enough. Sokka, weren’t you and Zuko in the same class last year? He wasn’t mean to you then right?”
“Maybe because he was embarrassed from completely bombing his first year of classes-”
Aang’s eyes widened, “Katara!”
“What? It’s true.” She said matter of factly.
Suki was the one to get the group to settle down.
“That’s enough you guys.”
Now was probably an awful time for Y/n to mention Zuko was very nice when they had met the previous week. Instead, she opted to sit quietly, pondering all the information she had just learned.
~
Zuko was mortified.
Of course Y/n was friends with the people he tormented. Of course they had mattered to shoot down any chances of friendship between him and Y/n. Of course, he would never get a chance to finally make amends with Aang and his friends. He knew for a fact he had done this to himself, and yet he couldn’t help but immediately blame the circumstances that had followed him up until this point.
As he walked into his next class, Zuko began to feel an unprompted sense of dread overwhelm him.
Oh. That’s why.
Low and behold, sitting right in front of him was the girl he had served at the boba shop mere days ago. The girl that had literally just listened to Aang and his friends completely dragged him about his past behavior.
Y/n made eye contact with him, her eyes filling with warm recognition. She smiled at him, giving a small wave. Zuko quickly averted contact, sitting as far away as he could with the limited seats left in class. He tried his best to avoid catching her gaze, but it was useless, because she was staring at him now. Each time their eyes met each other's, Zuko's would dart to the floor, in an attempt to not feel the heavy weight of his past transgressions on his conscience.
It worked for about 15 minutes, before the professor grouped everyone in the class up to talk. Of course, it was just his luck that his stupid professor would group Y/n and him as a pair.
“Just talk with your partner a little about yourselves. I really encourage you to get to know one another, as you will be with these people for the rest of the year.” Their professor had said.
Yeah, thanks.
The tension between the two was palpable. Zuko refused to make conversation, simply nodding at everything that Y/n would tell him. He assumed it would be better if they kept the conversation minimal, maybe then she didn’t have to pretend to want to know more about him.
However, Y/n was starting to get annoyed. What was going on? This is literally what she had wanted, and yet Zuko sat there, pretending to care about what she was saying.
“What is your deal?” She asked bluntly, shocking Zuko, and even herself a little, with the brash tone she had taken up.
“What is my deal? What is your deal?” he fired back, as if he were a child retorting to a schoolyard taunt.
“Are you even paying attention to what I’m saying? If you don't want to talk, you should just say something. You don’t have to go the extra mile to ignore me for virtually no reason?’
“Why are you talking to me?” he spat back at her.
Y/n looked at him with dismay. “Because I can? Do I need a reason?”
“Well after the conversation you and your friends had at the dining hall, I figured there was no reason you’d want to.” Y/n noticed the way Zuko pulled back after he said that. He once again looked everywhere else but at her.
“I’m sorry.” said Zuko.
He knew this was a mistake. He should have never tried in the first place. Silence overtook the two of them for a minute.
“Look, I don’t know what happened between all of you. But this is all new to me, and I don’t know how exactly to navigate this. I forgive you for being an asshole just now.” Y/n was being honest, but she couldn’t quite tell whether or not Zuko had understood.
“Time’s up! Back to your seats.” Their professor proclaimed as the timer chirped a loud, annoying, song.
Feeling like a kicked puppy, Zuko began to gather his things and return to his seat. But not before Y/n reached out and grabbed his wrist.
“How about we sit next to each other on wednesday? We’ll talk more then?” She raised her eyebrows expectantly.
Zuko was confused. Had she not realized just how fucked up of a person he is? Why isn’t she giving up?
“Okay…” he responded with a curt nod.
She gave a gentle smile, nodding her own head. “Okay.”
With that, she let go of his hand, letting Zuko walk away. He stared at the wrist that she had held onto. Her grasp was gentle, but unyielding and it had felt like a jolt of lightning against his scarred skin.
Y/n had felt the roughness of his scarred skin underneath her fingertips, her eyes trailing Zuko as he walked away. She found herself even more curious about him than before.
Within the wasteland of his mind, Zuko picked up the pieces of all his hopes and dreams, for maybe a secret oasis could finally be found in Y/n’s kindness. Maybe, his luck was beginning to change.

and then there was fun ; platonic gaang

After everything you’d been through, it was easy to forget that you and your friends were still just kids. That through all of the battle strategies, assassination attempts, kidnappings and near death experiences that none of you had even reached a point where you could be deemed adults (well outside of the perceptions of those that revered you). That you weren’t just ‘war heroes’ and ‘masters’ and ‘specialists’ and ‘the avatar and his companions’ and ‘the fire lord and his advisors’ but that you were also ‘friends’ and ‘idiots’ and ‘teenagers just trying to grow up and live your lives’.
Though you couldn’t blame strangers for forgetting that fact when you yourselves often lost sight of it as well. Nor could you blame yourselves for losing your innocence to a war and wanting to protect yourselves from the horrors around you, for being hardened and aged by it.
But all of that was over now, and it was about time that the seven of you reclaimed your childhoods once and for all.
And, thankfully, Zuko had a beach house that was more than fit for the task.
————
Oh what fun you’d had: trying desperately to keep pace with Katara further out to sea, legs trembling as you attempted to stay balanced on your makeshift boards only to end up collapsing under the water each and every time (much to her unending amusement); the lot of you trying to catch Zuko as he effortlessly weaved in and out of the various pillars and plants that decorated his home, with the game only ending after Suki and Toph teamed up and tackled him to the ground, all while laughing near-manically at his disgruntled expression; playing volleyball in teams of three, with you alternating who was the referee, mixing bending-moves with fighting techniques with dance to form a beautiful amalgam of moves and a game that was pretty much always rigged in Aang’s team’s favour (can’t beat the avatar, after all) but none of you cared; gorging yourselves on fresh fruit and cold water until your teeth and cheeks were stained watermelon-red and your stomachs ached from being so full; laying down on a small outcropping of grass near the summer estate and describing the clouds and sky (and later, the stars) to Toph as she bombarded you all, but especially Sokka, with questions. It was lively and enjoyable and weird and then peaceful and private and quiet; it was exactly what you needed it all to be.
A vacation, a holiday, a break. A reminder that the war was finally over and you had survived.
And now as you found yourself staring at your friends you were overcome with a familiar bittersweet feeling. You were all alive, yes, but this wasn’t all of you and days like this were a reminder of that unfortunate fact.
Yet, as you looked up at the clear night sky you could have sworn that the moon was shining twice as brightly as usual, and despite yourself and your aching cheeks you found yourself smiling. Not grinning. Not laughing. Not smirking. Just smiling: genuinely, sadly, peacefully, quietly.
… and then Toph elbowed Sokka in the side and another argument broke out followed by a string of groans and a half dozen voices all piping up at once. Some annoyed, some entertained, some unsurprised and the last one being a very offended sounding Sokka who was complaining (rather animatedly, at that) about Toph ‘ruining the moment’.
It seemed as though some things never change, and you could only hope that life would stay this way forever.

A night after Karaoke
Aang x Reader Modern AU (Characters aged up) #Fluff #Smoking #Drinking #Drugs? #LightDom #Lust #Blindfolded Word Count: 1,803 Please reblog instead of sharing. Enjoy!
The group of young adults exited the Karaoke bar and enter the parking lot, grouping together by their cars. You all concluded your conversations and were planning to leave, putting an end to the night. "I'm gonna head home guys, good night." You said as you resigned from the group. "Ya ready, Suki?" Sokka asked his girlfriend. "Sure, goodnight, guys!" She waved to Aang and Zuko. "Alright, see ya tomorrow. Katara, Toph, let's go." Sokka concluded, giving Aang a fist bump and waving to Zuko. "Uhh, Sokka, I'm actually going with Zuko tonight." Katara said. "Alright."  Katara’s brother couldn't say anything. His sister was an adult and could make her own choices.
Zuko and Katara said their goodbyes, and headed for Zuko’s car, as Aang went to his. Sokka left the parking lot first as Zuko followed, leaving Aang the last to leave. Instead of going towards his apartment, he turned the opposite direction.
You were walking down the sidewalk in the dark evening. Your legs felt fuzzy, and you wore a pleasant smile on your face from the alcohol you had consumed during your night out. A white car came up beside you and was matching your pace. The windows were down, and a voice spoke out, "Did you want some company on your way home?" The familiar voice asked in a relaxed manor. You stopped walking and his car copied the action. "Sure," you blushed, then entered the laid-back atmosphere of Aang’s car. The 2 mixed drinks and 2 shots gave you immense euphoria and happiness.
On the ride home Aang had music on to add to the nice vibe that paired well with the alcohol and you two chatted about your time out with the group. He pulled off to the side of the road in front of your apartment, putting the car in park. He turned the car off to signify he wanted to have a little more time with you before he left. You shifted in your seat, leaning back into the fabrics. There was silence between the two of you. Aang stared at you in his lightly intoxicated state, admiring your features that he could see as the street lights shown in through the windows. "You know, you're a really sweet guy, Aang." His lips crashed into yours when you turned your head to face him, causing you to mutter a soft moan from the unexpected impact. He pulled away from the kiss, lust lacing his face. As he opened his eyes, he realized what he did. “I’m so sorry (y/n), I’m so sorry! I don’t know what came over me…” Aang rambled on apologizing looking around trying to explain himself. As you came back to reality, you blushed hard and couldn’t help but smile. "Did you wanna come in and hang out?" You offered him into your home. Aang wore shock and surprise all over his face. "Sure." He shyly musted in almost a whisper. You and Aang exited the car and entered your apartment, removing your shoes at the foyer level and dropping your jacket on the couch. You picked up the remote and tossed it to Aang as he sat down.
You went off and grabbed something stashed away as Aang flipped to a music channel, allowing you two room to talk. On the coffee table in front of the couch, you placed a small bong, a glass jar with cannabis in it, as well as a grinder and a lighter. You began opening the jar and placing the herb into the grinder, going to work for the smokable product. You opened her up and pinched the ground substance, placing it in the right location on the bong. After this, you picked it up, put the rim to your lips, with lighter in hand. Aang watched all this as the alcohol from his two shots and his mixed drink worked on his mind and body, settling him down again after the incident in the car. He followed the glass rim to your lips as they softly parted and pressed against it. He traced your face with his eyes, yet again admiring your beauty in the mildly lit apartment.
The lighter was struck, igniting a spark. The flame was drawn to the herb as you pulled the air through. Thick white smoke began to fill the glass, bubbling up through the water and into your mouth. Your smooth lips pulled away from the glass and you blew out a cloud of smoke. The aroma grazed Aangs nose. "Do you wanna try?" You motioned the device to him. "I've never smoked before," he informed, hesitating to take it from you. “I think you’ll be alright, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Aang was curious about the effects and wanted to feel what you were feeling too. You knew he was contemplating it, so you decided to take another hit while he made up his mind. The boy motioned for the bong and lighter, soon repeating your steps and inhaling the smoke. Before he could blow out the smoke, he coughed violently, causing a laugh to escape your lips. He had taken too big of a hit for his first time.
After he had cleared his lungs, you handed him a bottle of water you grabbed from the kitchen. He took a swig, and you took another hit. “Here, let me help you this time.” You said, turning the mouth piece to face the boy before you. He put his lips up to the rim again and began to suck in as you lit the herb again. After the flower seared for two or three second, you pulled the removable piece that held the weed and allowed for Aang to clear the smoke from the glass pipe. “Now blow,” the words rolled of your tongue, and he did as he was told. “Better?” You beamed and Aang smiled at you in response, “yeah.” The two of you finished off the bowl and listened to the music.
Aang felt the effects from the ganja mix with the alcohol and it felt good. The feeling of relaxation hung high in the air, as the excitement from the new experience settled. You noticed this as Aang leaned back into the couch. You guys relaxed a few minutes listening to music before Aang started.
“You’re so cool, ya know (y/n).” Your chuckle made him turn his head and smile to you. “It’s true, really.” He said sincerely. “Oh, and why do you think that?” “Well, for starters your fun, you like to enjoy life and are always surprising me. You make me laugh, like at karaoke when you were singing those songs and acting goofy. The way you sang that one song was beautiful though. You’re really smart too! I overheard one of the professors talking and they said that you were the only one in your (insert) class that passed the mid term finals and the class!” You blushed softly, hearing the boy say such nice things about you. “What else?” You asked curiously, seeing what else he had to say. “Well, you’re a really good person. Your there for your friends when they need someone to turn to,” Aangs smile faded a little, “like when I found out about Katara and Zuko.” Aang’s expression showed that he was still hurt from the situation, but you were silent because you didn’t know what to say. After a moment of silence, Aang smiled again concluding his thoughts. “And your really pretty too, (y/n).”
Your eyes made contact. Aang smiled sincerely and lovingly at you, as you blushed harder and turned your gaze down to the hymn of your shirt, as you fiddled with it. “What about me?” Aang asked how you felt about him, but noticed your eyes widen a little as your blush didn’t go away. He reposition himself on the couch, now sitting up with his leg under his body, now facing you. Ditching the original question, he asked a different one, “Do you trust me?” “Of course!” you shot back quickly. Aang hummed pleasantly and looked down before looking back up at you.
He got up from the couch and walked over to your bed in your personal area of the apartment, and grabbed the pillow from your bed, removing it from its case. He came back over to you on the couch and sat in his previous position. “Can you prove it?” He questioned slyly. (Y/n) looked down at the pillow case that he had creased onto itself, laying in Aangs hands. She looked back up at him. “Okay.” The word fell from her lips softly. She didn’t know what he had planned up his sleeve.
Aang smiled and placed the pillow case over her eyes and tied it in the back. “Its not too tight right?" "No." "And you can’t see anything right?” “No.” Aang loved hearing her soft voice; especially in this moment, it was so sweet. He got up off the couch, taking her hand in his. “Come on.” He helped her up and navigated her through her apartment, “Watch your step.” Aang walked her over to her bed and had her sit down. “Here,” he stated aimlessly before you felt an arm across your back and the other snake under your thighs. He lifted you bridal style before softly dropping you back down on the comforter in the middle of the bed. A small gasp escaped your lips and Aang chuckled. “You trust me right?” He asked again. You nodded your head.
You felt cool air graze your skin as the hymn of your shirt was pulled up, Aang’s hand going under the fabric. His warm skin rubbed across your abdomen, before he began to straddle you. He admired your soft skin, looking down onto your figure. Your cheeks were burning hot as you ever so slightly arched your back, yearning for more of his touch.
His endearing smile graced his handsome features before he removed his hand. He sat still for a moment, examining you to see what more you would do and how you would respond in this predicament. But you laid still.
His long pale fingers brushed the few strands of hair out of your face before resting easily on your cheek, his thumb stroking the skin ever so gently. Aang blushed as he looked down onto your perfect features. His thumb strolled over the corner of your bottom lip as he slowly closed his eyes inching closer, closer, closer…
His soft lips rested on yours, his arms on either side above your shoulders. He pulled away slowly, leaving a space as thin as paper between the two of you.
“(Y/N)?” he asked barely above a whisper.
“Yes, Aang?” you responded.
“I think I love you…”

"For a life together"
Title: For a life together
Word count: 1197 *w*
Pairing: Aang x Katara
Warnings: Noo one, just pure fluff 💕
Request: Nop, just my entry for @kataang-week 2024
Author's note: Eh eh I don't really know what to say, I really wanted to participate in this event, Aang and Katara are very sweet together, but I wasn't sure I could write something decent. I hope I didn't go out of character and that the story itself isn't overly sappy, it's always difficult to find a good balance haha I thought I'd keep it simple and describe a proposal with few pretensions, intimate, without spectators, I think it's more suitable, Aang and Katara don't seem like the types to show off in these things.
Well what else to say, the story is not proof read, I did my best but... well hope there aren't too much errors.
I hope you like the story and that it makes you smile.
Please remember to stay hydratate and took good care of both your physical and menthal healt
Love you guys 🌻
Masterlist
Aang felt his heart beating furiously in his chest while leaned against the trunk of a tree checked once again that everything was in order for the picnic he had prepared for Katara, focusing in particular on the betrothal necklace he had made for her. He had worked on it for months, carefully and precisely carving the symbols of the Water Tribe and the Air Nomads into the blue stone. He had rejected prototype after prototype, and now that he had finally found the right combination and that the result was as perfect as he had imagined it, the moment had finally arrived: he would ask Katara to marry him, to spend the rest of their lives together.
It was a big step, maybe the biggest of their lives, and for them, who were just kids, it would be nothing more than a promise for the future, but Aang was sure. He had never felt anything like that and he knew he would never love anyone like he loved Katara. She completed him, she understood him and she made him feel good, Katara was unique. And yet, somewhere in his heart, Aang was afraid, afraid that Katara might reject him, that she might not want a life together. She had never given him this impression, they had been together for a few years now, and Katara still gave him the same loving smile as the day they had kissed for the first time, after defeating Ozai. She continued to seek the secure grip of his hand when they walked side by side, to leave soft kisses on his cheek when no one was looking, to whisper sweet nothing in his ear, to rest her head on his shoulder when she was tired and to snuggle against his chest when she was afraid or the nightmares that tormented her became too oppressive. Katara needed him the same way he needed her, she had never given him any reason to doubt her love, and Aang didn't doubt it, but after all, he thought as he fondly caressed the necklace with his fingertips, it's normal to be afraid of losing the people you love.
It was Katara's cheerful voice that woke him up from the flood of thoughts that had invaded his mind. Quickly, with his heart beating furiously in his throat due to the tension, Aang hid the necklace in his pants pocket. Katara ran towards him, filling the air with her laughter. A gentle sound, crystalline like the flow of water, that Aang could have listened to forever without ever getting bored. Aang held her tightly, burying his face in the dark locks of her hair, breathing in the scent of ocean that, despite the distance from her tribe, followed her everywhere, as if it were part of her.
"Sorry, I'm late" Katara said, standing on her tiptoe to leave him the shadow of a kiss on the cheek. Aang shook his head, smiling kindly at her
"Don't worry," he said with a mischievous smile lighting up his face, the kind that didn't promise anything good, "I asked Sokka and Suki to hold you back for a few minutes," he confessed, Katara raised an eyebrow in confusion before widening her eyes, looking at him as if she had just found out the solution to a very difficult math problem, "Spirits," she said, letting out an incredulous laugh, "it seemed strange they didn't want to let me go, Suki even pretended to had sprained her wrist!" she said while guided by Aang, she took a seat on the blanket spread out on the grass "I had to check her three times before she let me out" Aang laughed along with her
"I knew they wouldn't let me down!"
Only then did Katara take a moment to look at what Aang had arranged. The tablecloth, decorated with wildflowers and made more comfortable by soft pillows the same color of the sky, was full of every imaginable delicacy.
"It was worth it though" she said "Everything here is beautiful, but why did you..." Aang's lips were on hers in a delicate kiss that made the words die in the back of her throat
"No reason," Aang replied, "I just wanted to spend the afternoon with you."
They spent the afternoon eating, laughing and chatting, closed in a bubble of serenity and complicity in which they seemed to be the only existing beign. Then, at sunset, when the sky was slowly turning the softest shades of orange and red, Aang decided that the moment had finally come. His heart began beatin furiously in his chest as his gaze slid over Katara, half-lying on the blanket next to him. Her face was relaxed, serene, and under the orange light of the dying sun she seemed almost ethereal, Aang couldn't have loved her more. He breathed deeply before leaving a kiss on her hair and saying
"Katara?"
"Mmh?" she said, snuggling closer to him, stretching out her arm to encircle his waist "what?" Aang rested his cheek against her head, between the soft locks of her hair, he sighed softly and with his voice reduced to a gentle whisper
"Will you marry me?"
Aang's voice reached Katara's ears like a sweet but determined melody, delicate and full of love and for a long moment the only thing she could do was look at him in a mixture of surprise, uncertainty and emotion. Her heart was beating furiously in her chest, so fast that it almost hurt, even though, she had to admit, it was a pleasant pain, one that you would want to feel for the rest of your life. Aang returned her gaze firmly and Katara felt herself blush while a thousand butterflies began flying in her stomach
"Wh - what?" she asked with a trembling voice, moving away from him just enough to be able to look him better. Aang smiled sweetly at her, a hint of embarrassment coloring his cheeks
"Will you marry me?" he repeated in a whisper, showing her the necklace he had made for her. Katara thought she had never seen anything more beautiful. The symbol of the water tribe and that of the air nomads were intertwined harmoniously as if they were one, like the two of them. She felt an electric shiver run down her arm when she touched the blue stone with her fingers.
"I know we are young" Aang began, his voice breaking with emotion "it's still early to talk about these things and I am not trying to rush you or force it." he reassured her - even thought Katara didn't really need it - "I love you, Katara, and this necklace represents my hope to spend the rest of my life with you by my side"
Moved, Katara felt her eyes fill with tears while overwhelmed by the greatest emotion she had ever felt in her life, she nodded her head, whispering in a weak and trembling voice, "Yes, yes, I want to marry you!"
And while with his heart overflowing with happiness he stole a long, passionate kiss from her, Aang couldn't help but feel stupid for even thinking that Katara might reject him.

hey hey! i recently got back into my love for Avatar: The Last Airbender 🔥 and was hoping to find some canon x canon relationships from the show. the pairings i'd prefer right now (with a star next to the character i'd prefer writing) are sokka x zuko*, zuko* x katara, sokka x azula*, azula x ty lee, toph x sokka, suki x zuko x sokka, and jet x zuko. i'm open to others- especially rarepairs, poly relationships, or one that involve side-characters. i ask that you please be 18+, a literate/multi-para writer, and use discord!

Literacy: semi-lit and up
Fandom: (* indicates high desire) hunger games, percy jackson series (through Burning Maze), avatar the last airbender (and associated universe), *the dragon prince*, also open to nonfandom
Pair: for fandoms i pretty much only do cc x cc, for nonfandom I have female and non-binary ocs with the full range of attraction for pairings
Character(s): I am also happy to play other characters on the side
Hunger Games: Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, Annie
Percy Jackson: Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Nico (note: I headcanon him as ftm trans), Bianca, Reyna
A:TLA+: Katara, Zuko, Azula, Toph, Yue, Sokka, Ty Lee, Suki, Korra, Asami, Kyoshi, Rangi, Mai Emi (my singular oc)
Dragon Prince: Callum, Rayla, Claudia, Terry
Ship(s):
Hunger Games: katniss x peeta, finnick x annie
Percy Jackson: percy x annabeth, jason x piper, nico x will, jason x reyna, nico x reyna (queerplatonic)
ATLA+: Just about any combination of characters that isn't creepy
Dragon Prince: Callum x Rayla, Claudia x Terry
Triggers: pretty much my only rule is no smut
Genres: romance, drama, slice of life, light fantasy
Plot ideas: in general with fandoms I like picking up where the series left off and continuing the story, I don't like rping over things the creators produced with a few exceptions. I am also a sucker for domestic fluff. I do have some nonfandom oc plots, and am open to ideas, so dm for details
Specific Plots (or at least jumping off points)
Dragon Prince---Rayla gets hurt when the mountain collapses at the end of s4, hurt/comfort ensues and also resolving the whole aaravos part (dw I have a plan)
Hunger Games---finnick survives. that's it that's the plot
A:TLA+---au where Mai is mtf trans, and after the Search comic Zuko seeks her out to offer to take her to the Mother of Faces to see if she would be willing to help Mai transition
A:TLA+---five years after her death, Yue reappears at the South Pole with no memories. Sokka has to reevealuate his entire life choices. Obv a Sokka x Yue plot but ofc Suki will also be a part of it
A:TLA+---Aang and Katara break up about the same time Mai and Zuko break up, and Zuko and Katara bond over it and eventually end up together
A:TLA+---Sokka and Suki struggle with long distance, and eventually decide to split. When Zuko is struggling with assassination attempts, he asks the Kyoshi Warriors to be his bodyguards. He and Sokka have a budding romance, as do Suki and Ty Lee, but one thing leads to another and Sokka and Suki spend one last night together. They put it out of their minds until Suki finds out she's pregnant.
Where: I prefer to use discord, but I'd rather not give it out until we've agreed on an rp, so dm me here first.

actually i already rated the "canon" ships what am i doing. i know ill rate them again
naruhina: -10/10. concept is mediocre at best, popular guy x shy girl but that is literally not what is happening here. can we stop pretending its good
sasusaku: -10/10. please project onto someone else
narusaku: 2/10. they care about each other a lot so i guess its ok-er but still not very good romantically. but again if it were endgame it wouldve been not AS bad
inosai: 4/10. it makes so much sense but also zero sense and i never know how to feel about it. sai isnt a sasuke replacement tho. lavender marriage?
shikatema: 3/10. good in concept but again. see sokka and suki atla thats what this COULD HAVE been but it isnt. just bc theyve actually talked does not mean its good where are your expectations. 3 points for meeting before tho bc for some reason that is so hard in this series
chokarui: 3/10. the reason why the previous one also got 3. 3 points for this one bc i guess theres nothing objectively wrong with it but can we stop getting strong female characters move their entire lives to immigrate to the stupid leaf and rhen get dumbed down to angry housewife? please?
tamakiba: 1/10. i love kiba where did this come from tho. if we put tamaki in a crowd we would lose her. summary of all that is wrong in boruto The Pairings Were Not Planned If They Had To Make Up An Entire Ass Woman
itaizu: 0/10 bro. they were 7.
obirin: 3/10 i have.... mixed feelings. rin isnt enough of an actual character for this
kakarin: 1/10 see above
asukure: -1/10 i actually hate this one. fun fact asumas introduction is him being a misogynistic ass to kurenai, so i kinda never got over that w asumas character BUT THEN THEY WENT AND GOT TOGETHER???? for all i said ab other characters not really Having characters, kurenai really takes the cake. all this did was make her a wife and mom. cool. goodbye
yahikona: 8/10 winnnnn the background random couple of side characters is somehow better than all the main ones!!
hayugao: 5/10. idk if thats the ship name but yugao x hayate. at least they had development i guess but its just. theyre REALLY background
tsunadan: 10/10 love tsunadan live laugh love tsunadan. pairing that had the best development in the whole series and it was like. 3 pages long.
jiratsuna: 1/10 i just dont like jiraiya and tsunades already rejected him why does she have to accept him now. give it up old man
minakushi: 7/10 ive mentioned this before but while the pairing itself is nice, kushinas character gets done so bad w all her ambitions in this, and minato doesnt really have much of a character. better than the main ones but could be better.
hashimito: 4/10 see look i really think this couldve been good but then hashirama rambled about madara the whole time and didnt think to mention his WIFE! once so im kind of mad at him about that. hsmd juice sure ig but mito deserves better
hiruzen and his wife: 2/10. i feel like nobody should have to deal with hiruzen for such an extended amount of time but i remember finding her annoying too
koteizu: 100/10 obviously. of course they are canon. ostrich episode carried they carry love them

delicate - chapter 18
In which Katara unleashes a display of power to save the Fire Prince while keeping her promise. But in doing so, lines are crossed that can't be uncrossed...
Tumblr media
FYI, I updated the tags, and while I tried not to make anything too graphic, some parts at the beginning may make you squeamish. Nothing like Stranger Things' Season 4 levels of graphic, but still reminiscent in a way.
Lastly, you're not going to like me for this cliffhanger (but just wait until you see chapter 19's - y'all are going to be MAD.)
Anyways, without further ado... enjoy!

delicate - chapter 14
In which Katara and Zuko join her family for a dinner at the Beifong’s, where their pretend courtship will be put to the test against the living lie detector known as Toph Beifong…
AKA, the chapter in which Toph and Suki channel their inner Rachel and Phoebe to figure out what these two pining idiots in denial are hiding, like in the episode of Friends when they find out about Chandler and Monica.
“They think they can mess with us? The mess-ers become the mess-ees!”
(technically Chandler’s line but who’s keeping score?)
and of course:

While poor Sokka (who’s both Joey AND Ross in this scenario) just wants food and for this to all be over with, because this is his best friend and his sister 😩

let’s go back to the start
https://archiveofourown.org/works/36708718
Aang could only stare, rendered speechless as he watched his most loyal companion who he’d given up mastery of the Avatar State for - his forever girl - choosing to side with the Fire Prince instead.
It was all too clear now exactly where Katara’s true loyalties lied, and they weren’t with him.
~*~*~
Or, Aang finally awakens onboard a strange ship a month after the fall of Ba Sing Se to a new world, one where both the Avatar and a traitorous Fire Prince have been declared dead by the Fire Nation.
Now, the pair have no choice but to put aside their differences to form an uneasy alliance. The Avatar must learn to finally let go of his attachment to Katara, while the Fire Prince finds himself surrounded by former enemies who’d just as soon see him dead...
Sequel to Taste of a Poison Paradise.

Hi @anulithots for " do you ship it or not " ask game, can I ask for : Kageyama/Hinata, Iwaizumi/Oikawa and Zuko/Katara? Thanks....
Hello hello, thank you for the ask!
and I'm just going to say that I've only read to volume three of Haikyuu so far. I do plan to read it all, but I want to hyperfixate on it when I do... and right now I"m hyperfixating on JJK. I know they are related and have similar dynamics and character perspectives, but I really don't like having more than one fictional hyperfixation at a time because this JJK one is one of those intense ones, and I want to enjoy it to the fullest and give other fiction it's time without being... stolen by JJK?
Sorry about that rant. My head has weird ways of doing things.
BUT SHIPPING TIME!
Kagehina
Tumblr media
I ship it! Not only do their positions require trust, but they complement each other in their skill sets, they bring out the best in each other. Again, I've only read up to volume three at this point, but from what I've heard about Haikyuu, they grow together and find thier true potential together. ALSO ALSO: Kageyama admires Hinata's joy for the game immediately, HInata sees someone very good, someone he'd like to beat. Kageyama gets concerned for Hinata's nervousness whilst also having no tact for how to help. HInata being there and keeping up with Kageyama when no one else would. They are a pair. "As long as you're with me, you're the greatest."
AND AGAIN: I like their dynamic first and foremost. Queer platonic sort of ships are what my brain gravitates to, and if there is extra romantic fluff that I like then I like that too but this aspec prefers 'you are my comfort, someone who's company I genuinely enjoy' and romance can be a side.
As far as an unpopular opinion... not sure. I like them as they are.
NEXT SHIP
I don't know enough about Iwaizumi/Oikawa to have an opinion on it, sorry.
Tumblr media
From the bits and pieces I've heard so far tough, they seem great.
NEXT SHIP
Zutara
Tumblr media
I.... don't really ship it tbh. I feel like it's' very much for the aesthetic... altough you could have themes of forgiveness here? I just don't think their dynamic is 'I'd spend my whole life with you' sort of dynamic. Katara's too uptight and Zuko's seriousness would cause them to... get too tense I guess?
... although Kataang is... fine... ok.... still not in my fav ships whatsoever.
YOU KNOW WAT I DO SHIP THOUGH:
Suki x Sokka x Zuko.
And I'm not entirely sure why. They just seem like they'd make an interesting trio (romantic or otherwise). You also get themes of forgiveness with Suki and Zuko, silly banter with Zuko and Sokka, and of course you have Sokka adoring Suki.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE ASK!

Maikka, #100
Haha a good prompt for them! Thanks for the ask friend, sorry it took me a hot minute.
100- Sit, relax, I won’t bite.
Sokka stood awkwardly at the entrance of the makeshift tent. He was only here to return some of Suki’s things, and he definitely didn’t want to see her.
Or Ty Lee. Cause ya know, that was the girl his girl dumped him for.
He coughed and sat down the box by the door. “Uh… so I’ll just…”
“Sit, relax, I won’t bite.” Mai waived at the chair near her as she took off her warrior makeup.
Sokka swallowed. Mai had definitely thrown sharp objects at him before, and he had no doubt that she could bite when provoked. She was scary like that.
Mai peered at him standing by the door still, seemingly annoyed. “The lovebirds are out. You can relax.”
“You know, I really don’t want—”
“Sit the fuck down!”
Sokka scrambled into the chair. “Yes ma’am.”
She stared at him intensely, making him squirm. She rolled her wrist towards him expectantly. “Well?”
“Well…. What?” He asked dumbly.
Mai sighed. “Well spit it out. Go ahead.”
Sokka felt his eyebrow hitch up. “About…”
“About the lovebirds, you moron.”
He sighed, frowning. He hadn’t really talked about it with anyone. It was a complicated thing when everyone was friends. But Mai was willing to listen so… he talked.
And talked, and talked… finally he snapped his mouth shut, fearing he had probably pissed her off with his droning negativity and whining.
Mai only looked at him shrewdly before standing. She reached out and patted his arm awkwardly. “You’re a sweet guy. You’ll be fine.”
Then she turned as if to leave the tent. Sweet? She wasn’t one to be a listening ear or give out compliments or touch people casually.
Was Mai trying to… connect with him? Was this her attempt at flirting now that he was single?
Sokka got up from his seat eagerly. “Hey, Mai! Wait up!”

Arsonist's Lullabye
Chapter 5: Life’s distractions
Summary: The gang gets together to watch Toph's power disc game!
Pairing: Zuko x fem! reader (Live Action or Animated)
A/N: Not gonna lie, I only skimmed over this to review. We die like men. Anyways, I wonder what will happen next! (Not actually though, as I already have it planned out LOL) As always feel free to leave comments or constructive feedback, as it helps me grow.
Word Count: 1,692
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am merely a nerd who hyperfixates a lot. Lots of divergence from the canon story lol.
Warnings !: None I think.
Tumblr media
The excitement in the atmosphere sent a buzz down your spine.
The bus to the power disc arena was pretty short, 10 minutes at the most. Katara had insisted on doing your makeup for the festivities. Aang and Sokka had gotten custom varsity jackets with Toph’s jersey number, 1. You remembered the day at lunch, a mere matter of days ago, in which Sokka had tried guessing Toph’s number, without any success.
“It’s 1! Man, you suck at guessing.” Toph exclaimed.
“What!? That’s not reserved for like, the captain of the team, or whatever?”
“No, Sokka. Jersey numbers are so that the announcers can know who’s playing. They’re not based on who’s the best. I chose my own number.”
“So why did you pick one?” Aang asked.
Toph shrugged, lifting her chin. “Because I’m the best, obviously.”
You and Katara had packed bags full, just in case anything happened. You didn’t really need half of the things, (in what world would you need sunscreen in fall?), but you never were the type to come unprepared, even for fun school events like this one. You chose a spot under the shaded area of the bleachers, saving seats for the others who would join shortly. Sokka said that Suki and a couple of her friends would be joining them after the band and color guard performed, and Aang had mentioned something in passing about another one of his friends sitting with the group as well.
You sat on the end, bag saving a little extra space, Aang and Katara on your left. Sokka sat in the row below, legs on the metal seats as well. You basked in the warmth while you could, as the cool autumn air was sure to take over eventually. The band was warming up on the other side of the arena, and if you looked closely enough, you could see Suki in the Kyoshi warrior garb.
“When is your friend coming, Aang?” you had asked inquisitively.
The look on Aang’s face was almost unreadable. He looked apprehensive, maybe a little bashful?
“He’s almost here…” Weird, vague, answer. But hey, who were you to judge?
“Alright…Well, I wanted to get some snacks. Anyone want to come?”
Katara shot up, placing her bag down. “I’ll go! We need to get the good stuff, because Sokka always insists on getting cotton candy, and I would much rather get some seaweed cookies.”
“Cotton candy is good!” You grimaced at the thought. Wind and some overpriced sugar on a stick was not a great pairing.
“I’m gonna have to agree with Katara on this one.”
“Y/n, You always agree with Katara-”
“As she should!” Katara responded, taking your arm in hers, and dragging you down the stairs of the bleachers to the food stalls.
The pair of you giggled as you waited for your food. There was something about Katara that had such a magnetic pull. Like as if she herself was a force of nature, and not in a water bending master kind of way. Katara’s kindness was like the gentle spray of salt water, refreshing, and uplifting to the one’s around her. With the dichotomy of this passionate, sassy, woman, combined with the kind and motherly girl, you had become quite fond of her in the short amount of time.
Grabbing your seaweed cookies, you made your way back to your spot, but not before Katara halted in her tracks.
“What is he doing here?” She had asked, but not before storming off, straight where you guys sat. It took you a second to see what she had seen. Squinting in the direction of your spots, you saw Aang, Sokka, and a familiar boy with jet black hair, in a black bomber jacket, red sweater, and black jeans. Zuko.
~
Zuko called it. This was indeed a bad idea.
“What are you doing here?” Sokka had asked, standing up straight.
“Sokka it’s okay-”
“No Aang! It’s not okay. Why are you here?”
“Sokka, I invited him here!”
“You what?” Sokka cried out.
Zuko turned to face Aang. “You didn’t tell anyone I’d be coming?” He asked, exasperated.
Zuko felt a hand grab his shoulder, turning his body away from the other boys.
“Why are you talking to us?” asked Katara.
“I Invited him!”
“Why??” She seethed.
In the distance, he watched as Y/n ran, seemingly carrying a bag of what he assumed were snacks.
“Maybe I should just go-”
“Yes!” “No!” Aang and Katara exclaimed at the same time.
Y/n finally made it back to the bleachers. Out of breath, and still holding the snacks.
“Hey guys! Maybe we should work this out a little quieter, preferably before the band plays.” She huffed out. Zuko almost smiled at the sight of her, all red in the face.
Katara puffed out a breath of annoyance, taking her seat beside Aang once again. Sokka followed suit, sitting down and turning his body to face them. Y/n handed the cookies off to Aang, sitting down. Like she had done before in class, Y/n moved her bag away from next to her, instead placing it on the ground in front of her, patting the now empty spot and signaling for him to take a seat next to her.  Zuko breathed in, in an attempt to calm himself down.
“I know I was a dick in the past. And I know saying sorry won’t fix it all. But, I wanted to let you all know how sorry I am…start somewhere small.” He looked down, rubbing his rough hands together anxiously.
The silence was palpable.
“He already apologized to me. I invited him so that we could hopefully move past everything.” Aang said.
Sokka sighed. “Look, if Aang is cool with you, then I guess it’s fine. That doesn’t mean I’m going to just, like you right away.”
“I understand.”
Katara stayed silent, staring at Zuko with a cold gaze. She turned away, facing the field.
“The band is about to perform.” She muttered.
Immediately, all attention was off of Zuko and onto the field. The music of the band blasting through the air. The way that the color guard spun and threw their fans was hypnotizing. Zuko’s mind was elsewhere, drifting away. The far away look in his eyes coming back as he dissociated. Before he knew it the band was done, and the crowd was cheering, roaring in approval of their show.
Suddenly Zuko felt the warmth of someone’s touch in his left hand. He looked down as you squeezed his hand, a silent questioning of “Are you okay?” Your eyes were locked on the retreating members of the university band. He squeezed back twice. “I’m okay.” He had meant in reply. While he kept his gaze downcast, you looked out of the corner of your eye to check on him. The scars on his hand that you had felt before were like sunshine warming your palms with its embrace. You let go shortly after, not in any rush.
As the band and color guard members came into the stands you spotted Suki, still in uniform, but all makeup wiped off. Behind her stood a shorter girl with long hair put up in a braided ponytail, and a girl who was not in uniform with jet black hair in space buns, and a normal black sweater and jeans
“Suki! That was amazing!” You called out to her. Sokka immediately jumped up from his seat, wrapping his arms around his girlfriend in a giddy, almost childlike way. He littered her face with many pecks, making Suki smile. She gently grabbed his face, kissing his cheek.
“Thank you, Y/n. These are my friends, Ty Lee and Mai. Ty Lee and I are both in the colorguard but Mai plays clarinet in the marching band.”
Zuko’s reverie came to an end at the familiar names. He looked up to face the two girls in which he once knew.
“Zuko? Is that you?” Ty Lee asked, eyes widening in excitement. Mai simply raised her eyebrows.
The gang turned to look at the three of them.
This was going to be a long game.
~
It was kind of funny how you all know nothing about sports. Especially power disc, as nobody was aware of the fact that only two people at a time would be playing. As you all waited for Toph’s turn to play, the gang took turns asking questions and genuinely getting
“So how do you guys know each other?” Suki asked curiously.
“We all grew up in Imperial City. Mai’s father and Zuko’s father worked together, and I went to school with Mai and Zuko’s sister.” Ty Lee responded.
Zuko perked up when he heard the name of his little sister.
“How is Azula?” He asked.
Azula? As in Azula from your sociology lectures Azula? Maybe it was just a coincidence.
“Yeah..She’s-”
“We haven’t spoken to her since senior year.” Mai interrupted.
“Oh. Why?’ Zuko asked. He was confused, considering the three of them were attached at the hip when he was still living in the fire nation.
“Well, you know, she can be a little abrasive-”
“She was being a bad friend. Constantly berating Ty Lee, and I had enough of her stuck-up bullshit.”
Okay, so perhaps it was indeed the Azula from your class. But why would Zuko not know details about his own sister? Why wouldn’t he know that they literally go to the same university?
“Next up on the field we have player number 1, Toph Beifong from the University of Ba Sing Se!”
“Wait, everyone Shut up! It’s Toph’s turn to play now!” Katara exclaimed. Everyone quickly hushed up, waiting excitedly for Toph to come out.
Although they were excited to watch Toph play, questions filled you and Zuko’s heads. Where is Azula? Is she okay now? If Zuko Mai, and Ty Lee grew up together then do they know what happened to him? Why did he move away? How did he get that damn scar?
As Toph absolutely dominated her opponent in the round of power disc, You and Zuko were left with more questions unanswered.

Just a little rain
pairing(s): Zuko x fem!reader in modern!au
prompt: "We're in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to feel the rain?"
a/n: so… sorry for pretty much dropping off the face of the earth- but I’m back now! Will I drop off the face of the earth again? Honestly, yeah probably. I wrote this at 3 o’clock in the morning, so if this is a little clunky I apologize in advance! But whoooo! First fic if the year y’all :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They where driving down an empty Road in the middle of nowhere with fields on both sides of the road, they had been for what felt like hours. Normally they wouldn’t make the three day drive from BSSU all the was to Gaoling, however she insisted saying it would be nice to go somewhere new. She’d only visited there once, going there with Toph and the rest of their friends during spring break. That was a year or two ago and she’d been wanting to go back ever since. And so now, that’s where they were heading. They were of course, the odd men out, so they took their own car while Aang, Katara, Sokka, Suki, and Toph could car pool together. It ended up working out just fine, they were besties! What was the worst that could happen?
"Ugh," Zuko let out an irritated groan and squeezed the wheel a little harder until his knuckles turned white. The cause of his sudden outburst and soured mood? Tiny little rain droplets had started to fall down onto the windshield of their car, making a nice ambiance against the music he’d turned down thirty minutes back. His companion, who had been lost in thought and looking at the road ahead of then looked over and gave him questioning look, not really sure why he was getting angry over a little bit of rain. "Everything ok, Zuzu?" She tilted her head like a confused puppy, but he just shook his head and continued looking out onto the road.
Again, all was quiet aside from the soft music and rain droplets, but she didn’t seem to mind all that much. She loved the rain after all but Zuko on the other hand? Apparently not so much. But he kept his complaints to himself, occasionally glancing over at her and smiling as the watched some of the droplets on the window “race” to the bottom. Such a simple act made his stomach roll with that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you’re just simply happy. But after fter a few more seconds of rain he turned on the windshield wipers and huffed as the rain came down harder. She rolled her eyes and his dramatic actions then looked out of the window at the raindrops pounding on the glass.
She had always loved the rain, especially when it begin to fall after a long day of running around Jasmine Dragon, making teas and coffees and pastries and everything in between and then coming home to her nice warm bed and just listening to the pitter patter of it hitting the windows. She loved how the cold rain fell on her hot sweaty skin right as she ran around the track with Sokka, after all their cardio days were rain or shine. She wasn't really all that graceful. Maybe that's another reason she liked the rain. The raindrops never fell in one spot the same time, they were all different, like her. But she could keep thinking or more reasons why she loved it, his sour face right next to her made it difficult.
Zuko on the other hand hated rain. He was like a cat, at least that's what she said, in a teasing way of course! He didn't like rain at all, he didn't know why but he just didn't. Maybe it was because it always seemed to represent sadness and pain, basically his whole life in a nutshell. Now if she’d have been able to read his mind she’d probably have called him mellow dramatic, probably would have even told him that the good experiences outweighed the bad ones. She’d always been the optimist of the duo but that wasn’t a hard thing to accomplish. Zuko just seemed to hate everyone and everything, always a Debby downer. He didn’t understand why she put up with him but he certainly wasn’t about to complain or question why now. But
Speaking of her, she was one of the many things that he didn't hate. In all actuality, he was absolutely whipped for her, and he hated it and loved it at the same time. He would never admit it though, after all he was almost positive she didn't feel the same way. They'd been best friends for years, there was no reason for her to have even the slightest of romantic feelings for him. She never showed him any romantic affection, had she? If she had he’d never noticed and so he just tried his best not to pine over her. And so far it was going pretty damn well. After all she had no clue of his little crush, and so he was good to go on and be the bestie he would forever be. He’d been in airplane mode for a hot minute and he was finally pulled out of his thoughts when he heard her angelic voice from beside him in the passenger seat.
"Pull over." She had uncrossed her arms and was now grinning at him from ear to ear, and she looked like a dog that was overly excited to go for a walk or get a treat. Her eyes were ass big as dinner plates and sparkles like gems. Now, normal he’d smile and go along with whatever crazy plan she’d cooked up in her head but this time he thought she’d lost her damn mind. “I'm sorry, what?" He raised his brows at her and clutched the wheel again, then licked his lips as she pursed hers in what seemed to be annoyance.
"You heard me. Pull over!” She hadn't said it in a demanding way, kind of in a pleading way but not really. Ok, maybe it was a little teensie wheensie bit demanding but he didn’t see it that way. She didn't mean to sound so… whatever way she did. After all he would do whatever she asked, to an extent that is. And of course he did end up doing what she’d asked of him… but only after some serious puppy dog eyes and a stick out lip. He rolled his eyes and pulled over to the side of the road right beside an empty field. They were significantly behind the others already so it wasn’t that big of a deal.
He looked over at her again with an exasperated look, leaning back fully in the seat and raising a brow. “Why did I pull over exactly?" She grinned and took off her green BSSU hoodie and tossed it into the back seat. "I wanna feel the rain." He looked at her, dumbfounded at how simply she’d put it. He had no earthly idea why she would want to get out of the safe car in the middle of a thunderstorm. To him, she sounded mental. She gave him her most serious look, one she never really used, well unless she wanted something just like now. "We're in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to feel the rain? You'll get all wet," he tried to reason with her but was having none of it.
"So?” She shrugged and unlocked the door. “Clothes will dry." After moment of silence and her puppy dog eyes once again looking into his soul he sighed and gave her one last “do I really have to do this?” look before ultimately giving into her request. He didn't know why he even tried, she always got her way in the end. Spirits he hated the look she gave him whenever he even tried to say no to her. It broke his heart to see her upset, so of course he was wrapped around her finger and he hated it, but again, he didn't complain. He loved her way to much to let her down, it was definitely the bittersweet side of their friendship.
"Fine, five minutes." He took the keys out of the ignition but made no move to get out of the car. On the other hand, she instantly jumped out and shut the door behind her, knowing he wouldn't like it that much if his precious leather interior got damaged. "Come on, Zuko! Get out here!" She had the biggest smile on her face as she twirled around, beckoning him out into the cold and windy weather. Her soaked hair flung water on him as she opened his door. He grimaced as a few water droplets got in his jacket but he hid it well, making sure to smile at her when she skipped over to him.
“Do I have to?" He said it in his whiniest tone possible, but she was unfazed by it and instead giggled and grabbed his wrist. Before he could even react she had pulled him out of the car and into the rain. He stood there stunned for a moment before glaring at her with his lips in a this straight line. "Yes, you had to!" She giggled again and grabbed his hands and forcing him to sway back and forth with her. She was smiling so big that her eyes were all crinkled up and her cheeks were going red. Just one Look at her face in that moment and he melted. He would do anything to be able to see that look on her face again. It was his favorite thing, the one thing that he would do anything for. Suddenly their mushy moment was interrupted by a loud clap of thunder that had ripped through the air. She jumped slightly, her arms wrapped around his neck and she let out a little squeak.
She looked up to his eyes and suddenly she became as red as a tomato, her smile becoming shy in only an instant. "Well, uh... sorry Zuzu." She took a step away from him and looked at her feet, though she didn't seem to regret her actions, she seemed quite pleased with herself actually. His usually pale complexion was now just as red as hers was, he could feel it all over his face and neck and ears. "No, it's fine," he muttered, not at all fine, because in fact his heart was hammering in his chest. Sure they had hugged before, but not like that. She nodded and looked at the darkening sky, a smile tugging at her lips. Spirits, how he loved her smile.
"Why do you like the rain so much?" He crinkled his nose as he looked at his soaked cloths. She looked back at him and wiped some of the water from off her face even thought it did virtually nothing for her. "I don't know," she srugged and then looked around putting her hands on her hips, now feeling a little bold. "Why wont you admit your feelings?" He froze, his heart now full on racing. He blinked at her a few times and she looked back at him, taking a step closer. "I'm sorry?" He must have heard her wrong. He had to have misheard her. There was no way his feelings where so obvious. No way at all, especially not with how much care he put into not making them known. He looked straight at her again, she had a smug look on her face now.
"You heard me. Why won't you just tell me you like me. And don't deny it because I know you do." She crossed her arms over her chest and raised an eyebrow. He looked away, not wanting to see the look on her face. “I don’t where you got that idea from,” he shrugged. She gave him an annoyed look and shook her head. "Come on, it’s not like everyone else in our friend group knows. Why won't you just admit it? It's not like I'm mad about it!" She took a step closer to him and put her hand on his shoulder. "Please, Zuko." She gave him those big puppy dog eyes again, after all she just wanted the truth from him. She felt the same way, she just never told him because it would’ve been awkward if her suspicions had been wrong.
He sighed and ran a hand over his dripping hair. Was he really about to admit all his feelings that he had been bottling up for at least a year? Probably, after all she was begging him to be honest and unless she felt the same way, why would she be pressing so hard? So, he took a deep breath and then finally said it. "Yea, I like you (Y/N). I like you a lot. Happy now?" He went to look at her but was knocked to the ground, arms wrapped around his torso. He groaned and let his head fall into the soaked grass with a gentle thud, wrapping his arms around her with an unbelieving grin. "I like you too," she grinned and he let out a breath he hadn’t known he was holding.
"You give the best hugs." She said as she sat up, watching as he stood up and smoothing out his soaked jacket that he oh so adored. “I know, don't get used to them- Ow!" He huffed as she pinched his ankle before getting up herself to resume their driving. They definitely had a lot to tell their friends when they met up at the rest stop.
