so i'm reading up about sodomy laws across the world (don't ask) and it's really interesting that a lot of women accused of witchcraft were what we now call intersex people! they were criminalised along side women accused of sodomy because they were caught sleeping with or expressing sexual attraction to other women.
and it's just really interesting... i think a lot of us think of witchhunts as women being murdered because of their nature of just being a woman in a world that hated them, but more often than not, those accused of witchcraft had made some sorta transgression against what was deemed the 'right' kind of womanhood which FUNDAMENTALLY included women with sex characteristics that didn't align with the binary...
funny how terfs don't talk about this though huh lol
(btw just wanna acknowledge that i'm bringing this up both because of how many terfs refuse to address the place and rights of intersex people within their feminism, as well as the demonisation of trans women in particular for not fitting into terf's ideas of womanhood, BUT don't want to conflate intersex and trans rights since though the fight for rights between these communities are connected, they are also distinct from each other... saying it because i know as someone who isn't intersex i feel we often only talk about intersex issues in relation to trans rights which ignores the specific discrimination that intersex people face ... hopefully this makes sense lol)
