Day 26: #roadtrip
Welcome back everyone! For those of you who read yesterday’s blog post, Snehaa and I decided to switch it up a little. Not only was she busy documenting our day for the blog, but she also was busy taking over the Northeastern Instagram page. And I’m not talking about the Northeastern GEO page. I mean the actual official Northeastern Instagram page. Like the one with 109k followers. She did an amazing job by the way- go Snehaa!
Anyway, here we are. A new day, a new blog post. Today’s itinerary was pretty simple. 4 hour bus ride to Agra, Taj Mahal, 4 hour bus ride to Delhi. #roadtrip Yes, you did the math correctly, that is approximately 8 hours on the bus (not including bus traffic!) and we made it out alive. However, I will say those 8 hours felt like an eternity. To show you what our journey looked like here is a screenshot of Apple Maps (not showing the traffic that we did unfortunately hit)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The morning started out in high spirits. Well, as high as they could be for that early 7am departure from the Lemon Tree hotel in Jaipur. Most people took the first hour or so to sleep, and by the time we started unopening the packed breakfast, we were all awake and ready to see the Taj. (Compliments to the wonderful hotel staff who packaged up some breakfast foods for us to eat on the bus!) Please enjoy the photo of Scott dancing along to some song playing in his earbuds. Pictured below is also a photo of us enjoying some toast before the bus left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Olivia and I also had purchased some fun snacks for this bus ride and filmed a few fun taste test videos. Here is a fun screenshot I took from when we tried the Spanish Tomato Tango Lays chip and were cheers-ing. We even got Prof. Duane to try it with us.
While I will not be putting those on this blog post, please note that we enjoyed most of the snacks we tried and it was a good way to pass the time. We took a quick pit stop to use the restroom and quickly browse the souvenir store, and then were on our merry way to Agra.
Tumblr media
As soon as we stepped off the bus the hawkers sprang into action and throwing necklaces, magnets, and key chains in our faces, but no one stopped to buy. At least not right then. A short golf cart ride later and we were at the East Entrance to get a quick lesson on the Taj’s history. Fun fact: it took 22 years to build and there are 22 white domes that make up the Taj. One for each year it took to build! I'm not going to lie, pictures do not do it justice, but nonetheless, please enjoy.
We also learned that the inscription highlighted in one of those pictures is an optical illusion. The writing at the top is written bigger, but because of the longer distance from the viewer, it appears to be the same size as the text at eye-level!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s just say that it’s one of the seven wonders for a reason. It’s absolutely breathtaking, and we were lucky because the crowds didn’t seem too bad. We stopped at several stops to take individual photos, as well as a group shot. The photographer that took some of our photos was very keen on getting everyone one to do one of his guided poses.
I thought about putting in some of those individual photos here, but for all you parents out there- I decided to not spoil the surprise. Ask your kids for their photos! For now, just enjoy a few of the smaller group shots we took :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time most of the Instagram-worthy photos were taken, we were starting to get pretty hot and ready to move on to see the inside. Once we got inside the mausoleum, we weren’t allowed to take any photos. There was a security guard who had a whistle at the ready to tell off any visitors for taking photos. So, in the meantime, please enjoy this photo I got online that shows that the the beautiful inside looked like (below; left)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once we finished walking our little circle around the tombs, we were ready to wrap this tour up. Like I said, the Taj is absolutely beautiful, but at that point, we were all ready to get out of the heat and continue along on our journey. So we made our way to the exit, stopped to purchase any desired photographs from the photographer, got swarmed by hawkers again, and then finally got on the bus.
We stopped at a McDonalds for a to-go lunch to eat as we continued to drive the 4 hours to Delhi. I’m not entirely sure if the drive was closer to 5 hours or not, but it certainly felt like it. With a full day of traveling, we were all glad to see the sign for the Eros Hotel. For dinner, some people ordered take-out, while a group went to a local food court down the street that Teddy found. (Giving credit where credit is due) We ate at a Pan-Asian restaurant and then briefly scoped out the scene for a potential spot to hang out at tomorrow night. Stay tuned to find out if we actually end up going back to there or not. Well that’s it for me. We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Chopta Tour Package – Tungnath Temple & Chandrashila Summit Trek from Delhi
Nestled in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Chopta is a pristine and picturesque destination that has become a favorite among trekkers, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts. Known as the "Mini Switzerland of India," Chopta serves as the base for one of the most popular treks in the region – the Tungnath Chandrashila Trek from Delhi. This trek offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, and lush meadows, and an opportunity to connect with nature at its finest.
Tumblr media
Chopta Tungnath Trek
The Chopta Tungnath Trek is a scenic journey that begins from Chopta, a small hamlet known for its beauty and tranquility. The trek leads to the Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world, perched at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 feet). This trek is famous for its panoramic vistas, dense pine forests, and captivating landscapes.
Highlights of the Chopta Tungnath Trek:
Tungnath Temple: Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is an important pilgrimage site and holds historical significance.
Snow-clad Peaks: On a clear day, trekkers can witness majestic views of Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Flora and Fauna: The trail is home to a variety of flora, including oak, rhododendron, and alpine plants, as well as fauna like mountain goats, leopards, and various bird species.
The Tungnath Temple Trek is moderate in difficulty, making it suitable for both seasoned trekkers and beginners. However, trekking during winter can be a challenge due to heavy snowfall and the cold temperatures, but it also adds to the trek's charm.
Tumblr media
Chandrashila Trek
The Chandrashila Trek is a continuation of the Tungnath Temple trek, taking trekkers to the Chandrashila Summit at an elevation of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). The summit offers stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the Himalayas, with peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath, and Chaukhamba visible on a clear day.
Key Features of the Chandrashila Summit Trek:
Summit Views: From the summit, you are treated to an awe-inspiring view of the Greater Himalayas and Kedar Valley.
Cultural Significance: It is believed that Lord Rama meditated here, and the summit is considered sacred.
Adventure: The final push to the summit offers an adventurous climb that is both thrilling and rewarding.
The Chandrashila Summit Trek can be completed in a day from Tungnath, making it a must-do addition to your Chopta Chandrashila Trek experience.
Tumblr media
Deoria Tal: A Serene Lake amidst the Himalayas
Just a short drive from Chopta, Deoria Tal is a serene alpine lake surrounded by dense forest and snow-capped peaks. The lake reflects the stunning Chaukhamba peaks, creating a picture-perfect scenery. The Deoria Tal Trek is an easy and pleasant hike, perfect for those who want to experience the tranquility of the region without venturing on a challenging trek.
Highlights of Deoria Tal:
Scenic Beauty: The lake is famous for its mirror-like reflection of the surrounding peaks, making it an ideal spot for photography.
Rich Flora and Fauna: The area is a haven for nature enthusiasts, with rich biodiversity and birdwatching opportunities.
Peaceful Environment: The area offers a peaceful environment for camping, meditating, or simply soaking in the natural beauty.

Best Time to Visit Chopta for the Tungnath Chandrashila Trek
When planning the Chopta Tungnath Trek or the Chandrashila Trek, choosing the right time to visit is crucial to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Chopta offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, with its pristine meadows, dense forests, and spiritual landmarks. The region experiences varying weather conditions throughout the year, making some months better suited for trekking than others.
Summer (March to June)
Best Time for the Chopta Tungnath Trek & Chandrashila Trek
Summer, spanning from March to June, is the ideal time for trekking in Chopta and embarking on the Chopta Tungnath Trek or Chandrashila Summit Trek. During this period, the weather is pleasant and conducive to outdoor activities, with daytime temperatures ranging between 10°C to 20°C. Nights are cool but not too cold, making it comfortable for trekkers.
Tumblr media
Why Summer is the Best Time:
Clear Skies & Great Views: The skies are mostly clear during summer, offering unobstructed views of the Himalayas and surrounding peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Ideal Trekking Conditions: The trekking trails are mostly snow-free, making the paths easier to navigate, especially for beginners.
Flora in Full Bloom: The meadows around Chopta are covered with vibrant wildflowers, and the surrounding forests are alive with lush greenery.
Popular Trek During Summer:
Chopta Tungnath Trek from Delhi: A perfect option for those looking for a quick getaway from the city.
Chandrashila Trek: The clear weather allows trekkers to reach the Chandrashila Summit without significant difficulty.
Monsoon (July to September)
Not Recommended for Trekking
While the Chopta Tungnath Trek and Chandrashila Trek are alluring, monsoon season (July to September) is not ideal for trekking in this region. The trails become slippery due to rainfall, and the chances of landslides increase, especially in the higher altitudes.
Why Avoid Monsoon:
Heavy Rainfall: Frequent rains make trekking conditions slippery and hazardous.
Risk of Landslides: The monsoon season increases the risk of landslides on the narrow mountain roads and trekking trails.
Reduced Visibility: Cloud cover and mist reduce the visibility of the stunning landscapes, diminishing the overall experience.
If you still wish to visit Chopta during the monsoon, it’s better to focus on lower-altitude areas or opt for other scenic spots like Deoria Tal, which can be relatively safer during the rains.
Autumn (October to November)
Perfect for Adventure Treks
Autumn, spanning from October to November, is one of the best times to visit Chopta for the Tungnath Chandrashila Trek. The post-monsoon period brings fresh, crisp air, clear skies, and minimal chances of rain, making it perfect for high-altitude treks.
Why Autumn is Ideal:
Clear Skies & Scenic Views: The clouds begin to clear, offering incredible panoramic views of the Kedarnath Range and surrounding peaks.
Pleasant Weather: Daytime temperatures are around 8°C to 15°C, and nights are chilly, but not freezing.
Great Trekking Conditions: The trails are dry, making them easier to navigate, especially when trekking to Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Summit.
Tumblr media
What to Expect:
Tungnath Chandrashila Trek from Delhi: This is the peak season for trekkers visiting Chopta, with clear weather providing the best conditions for hiking.
Chopta Tungnath Trek: The autumn months offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes and allow trekkers to summit Chandrashila comfortably.
Winter (December to February)
Ideal for Experienced Trekkers & Snow Lovers
Winter transforms Chopta into a winter wonderland, with heavy snowfall blanketing the region. If you're an experienced trekker and enjoy winter treks, this is the time for you. However, the Chopta Tungnath Trek and Chandrashila Summit Trek become challenging due to heavy snow, freezing temperatures, and harsh weather conditions.
Why Winter is Special:
Snow-Covered Landscapes: The entire region is blanketed in snow, offering a unique and serene trekking experience. The snow-capped Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Summit are truly spectacular.
Fewer Crowds: Winter brings fewer tourists, allowing you to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the region away from the crowds.
Adventure Seekers: For those who enjoy winter trekking and snow activities, this is the best time to test your endurance and hiking skills.
Tumblr media
Challenges:
Cold Temperatures: Daytime temperatures can drop to -5°C or lower, and the nights can get extremely cold, making proper gear essential.
Difficult Trails: The snow makes the trails slippery, and the ascent to Chandrashila is challenging. The Tungnath Temple remains open year-round, but the trek to Chandrashila Summit is more demanding in winter.
Who Should Visit During Winter:
Experienced trekkers who are well-prepared for snow conditions.
Adventurers who seek the thrill of trekking in snow and want to witness the Chopta Chandrashila Trek in its most pristine winter form.
Summary: Best Time for Chopta Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek
Summer (March to June): Best time for most trekkers, with clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and ideal trekking conditions for the Chopta Tungnath Trek and Chandrashila Summit Trek.
Autumn (October to November): A close second, offering clear skies, cool temperatures, and fewer trekkers, perfect for both Tungnath Chandrashila Trek and Chopta Tour Packages.
Winter (December to February): Best for experienced trekkers seeking snow-covered landscapes and an adventurous challenge. Not ideal for beginners.
Monsoon (July to September): Avoid this season due to rain, landslides, and limited visibility, making trekking unsafe.
The Chopta Tungnath Trek and Chandrashila Summit Trek offer a rewarding experience throughout the year, but the best time to visit Chopta largely depends on your trekking experience and weather preferences. Whether you're looking for an adventurous winter trek, a summer hiking experience, or an autumn escape, Chopta tour packages provide ample opportunities for all kinds of trekkers. So, choose your season wisely and embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the majestic Himalayas!
