The wet grass squeaks underfoot as Chloe comes to a sudden stop, a small frown visible upon her lips as she moves her camcorder out of the way.

“That’s DAY ONE SHIT, Michelle. You never walk on the rocks by a river.” She sounds oddly serious---and experienced to boot---but it’s not enough of  a tonal difference to make her friend listen so she continues, “What if you fall in? Or what if you see a face in the water? Or what if a hand reaches up and grabs you?” It sounds childish---experience, experience, experience---but it’s enough. Chloe’s tirade is only halfway concluded and then her friend is moving to the right towards the safety of the grass.

“....Good. You might end up being the FINAL GIRL after all, stay sharp kiddo.” Back to jokes, back to recording, back to avoiding the river and ignoring just how wet the grass is---marshy, even. Ignore the hands in the water, ignore the hands in the mud. Ignore the bodies in the water, ignore the bodies in the grass.
