So one very obscure detail from Ranma 1/2's character designs that shows just how much Rumiko knows her stuff, is Principle Kuno's original design from before he moved to Hawai and converted his entire self to the local culture.
He is in most ways the most sterotypical old-school Japanese man imaginable, with a top-knot, with the rose that is his family crest being so stylized to look like the japanese sun that you would be hard pressed to figure out that it even is a rose unless you already knew it, The pink colors of sakura that represent the masculinity of samurai that died in the prime of their life, and a really, really oldchool japanese outer robe over the pink shirt.
All of it screams "Traditional Japan" as much as humanly possible... All except for one, thing.
The big frock on his neck, which stands out like a sore thumb... unless you happen to know one very specific part of japanese history, because this one detail is just as old school japanese as all the rest, just taken from one, specific moment in time.
Tumblr media
This kind of frock is european in nature, and was adopted by a number of Japanese noblemen that traded with the portugese for guns and cannons, and also in many cases converted to christianity.
It also became complely went out of fashion after the civil war period when the Shogunate enforced total isolation, and also did it's best to exterminate christianity in japan by any and all means necessary.
So, the fact that Kuno wears this frock is basically him declaring(through a very obscure archaic fashion statement) his religious faith in a society where christianity is a tiny, tiny minority.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This in turn also explains his daughter's school of choice, St. Hebreke's School, a unisex(Girls only in the manga) catholic school.
So it's an interesting detail, which shows that Rumiko was still aware and interested in Japan's relationship with the cross, even after she abandoned One Pound Gospel(Her previous series that she put on hold for decades right before Ranma's run).
And nobody but the most esoteric history buffs would ever notice this tiny detail.

Akemi's Powerplay in Season 2
Tumblr media
I have a feeling that season 2 Akemi is gonna really have to put on her proverbial armour and gird her proverbial loin 😭.
Though she's gonna be under so much pressure, how she tackles those challenges is going to prove her mettle and how ambitious she can really be. Lady Itoh isn't gonna give up her decades long powers over her family, with Taka being her most easily manipulated exponent. I don't see Lady Itoh letting Akemi exercise power politically or inside the family much, without a fight or unless she's dead (killed.) Akemi will have to fight to cut her mother-in-laws fingers clutching onto many aspects of her life.
Moreover, her husband is the younger son which means he's not gonna be as powerful as the older one, the natural heir to the Shogun, and would likely have to be subject under it, worse, controlled by it, unless Akemi seduces the Shogun himself, or has her husband contest the Shogun's seat or somehow get rid of the older brother, especially seeing that the brothers have a fairly decent relationship. Akemi is going to have to wedge that somehow, I don't see how else she'll be in total control of the state power if not through the Shogun himself.
Aside from the Shogun's seat, even without Lady Itoh forcing the issue, Akemi is gonna be (presumably) sleeping with her husband more than once which will cause a genuine risk for pregnancy and would distract her plans for acquiring power if she conceives unless she separates residence from Takayoshi to reduce their sexual encounters and to live in her own home, taking "care" of her father and ensuring he doesn't get well enough to exert control over her life once again. To make sure he doesn't try to ride on the coattails of Akemi's newfound powers.
Akemi is going have to be pretty formidable in breaking everyone's spine to bow to her. She can, of course, also do this by being a great advisor or being a publicly well liked representative to the Shogun's house. An emblem for the masses of sorts. Maybe even to the point that if anything happens to her, there would be a mass uprising.
But still, no matter how she rises, this'll give the power drunk people more reason to become unscrupulous in dealing with her/trying to get her out of their way. With Edo being rebuilt, a lot of shady businessmen, brokers, dealers, suppliers would be coming to bow before the Shogun for special favour for their personal gain. Amid bribes, bootlicking, war crimes and dealings, Akemi could easily run into crosshairs if she protests against an unsavory proposition.
I do trust that Kaji and the girls will aid in advising Akemi. They might offer to seduce the Shogun out of information or put him in a position to compromise his power and such. Taigen, as well, I believe he's going to stick by Akemi's side after his honour is restored for alerting and protecting the Shogun's family and he'll stick to the ranks of samurai instead of pursuing his former goal of living on a farm with Akemi.
He's the "if you go, I go. If you stay, I stay" person so I don't doubt he'll stick with Akemi to help execute her plans. She might even play Taigen, letting him wallow in false hope of a reunion when she only has her interest at heart. It's cruel but not crueler than killing people which she might resort to doing as well and for that I'd respect her even more.
It would be cool to see in a woman who's only duty in life has been to serve and be loyal to the men around her, to grow bloodthirsty for the power and control men have exercised for centuries. If they don't yield to your goodness, make them bow to your evil. Her sincere loyalty was wasted in season 1 and she was left worse off. But she is now on a path of greatness, and I hope it makes her as cruel as she can possibly be. (Before she inevitably changes)

"my game pass runs out in a couple days. I will no longer feel pressured to play specific games because of a time limit, which means I can get back to playing steam games I've bought in the past year that I didn't get around to, and maybe also get back to reading the witcher books"
my brain: hmmmm what if yoouuuu did a full skyrim playthrough instead. what if you did a big huge total war shogun 2 playthrough instead. go download it again. you want to play it so bad don't you. yes you do. spend another hundreds of hours on things you've already played...!!

- Welcome, Japanesearchaeologicalists, to a new installment of Japanese history in which I explain the evolution of the Tanegashima artifact. Having said that, make yourself comfortable, let's begin. - It was introduced by the Portuguese in 1543, in the middle of the Muromachi period from the island that bears the same name. The chemical black powder was invented by the Chinese in the 9th century. It was used for fireworks, then it moved to other areas. - It is said that when he arrived in Japan, a blacksmith sold his daughter to be able to produce said artifact. It was a rare and ineffective product. Not all samurai used it, since many still preferred the most effective traditional techniques. They considered it a dishonorable element. The most notable event was on June 28, 1575 in Nagashino, Mikawa Province. Oda Nobunaga's clan faced the Takeda clan, known for its fearsome cavalry. Oda Nobunaga would use palisades to protect his soldiers from successive charges. In this battle, the artifact would be used en masse. You can see this in the famous video game Total War: Shogun 2. - He hoped you liked it and see you in future posts, have a good week.

Adding onto the previous comments on the Twilight essay and fantasies, I can definitely say that with a lot of my own fantasies idea is not to disavow my desires to avoid shame. I am proudly perverted and shameless about it.
Hell, the reason why I have Total War: Shogun 2 and its expansions in my steam library is that I traded sexual favors for it.
My fantasies obviously don't necessarily reflect literal desires. I am a peace-loving transhumanist who kinks on fighting and death after all.
But I don't think the model of shame avoidance and sexual repression can explain them either.
Especially when some of the fantasies I have actually emphasize the shame for the purposes of humiliation. This is not a rare element in defeat and body betrayal stuff.

Oh Brother , as a fellow Total War enjoyer I know your pain all too well.
To distract from the pain, which were your favorite TW games? Personally loved Shogun 2/FotS n Med II until Warhammer II stole me away. Been back playing them recently and ughhh I've missed it.
Especially Naval bombardments. Love them.
You know, weirdly enough, I actually started not playing the series once Warhammer was introduced. I know it brought alot of players to the franchise, but there was a noticeable shift that sorta turned me off to the series.
As for favorites, Shogun 2 remains as my fav as it lets you have armies without a lord or general to guide them, while still looking amazing.
All time though, has to be either Rome 2 or Medieval 2. Medieval 2 for the mods, but its so outdated now that the graphics and shit controls affect me now lol
Rome 2 with the mod Divide Et Impera however is amazing. The battles feel great.
I thought i would use the franchise to help me with Kingdoms and Empires but I actually find myself going to Mount and Blade Bannerlord to see cities and towns, and the battles. Gives a good idea of what i can write and describe while walking thoughout the city or battlefield.

Dear Total War developers and mod developers,
You are not Firaxis.
You are not making Sid Meyer's Civilization.*
Civilization is a fundamentally different strategy game design with a totally different gameplay loop. The campaigns in Total War are designed to facilitate context for battles first, and being an empire-building minigame second. If the latter's mechanics are interfering with the former, by increasing the downtime between battles, they are fundamentally misguided.
Every Total War game since Rome 2: The building slots system is godawful, it makes building new armies a chore, and you should not be restricted to six structures in a major city. Pull the entire system up from its roots and go back to the system from Shogun 2 and backward.
Total War: Warhammer 3: Your map is too cluttered and the campaign movement speed is too slow in proportion to the distances between territories. Trim them. Also, your city battles are more painful then fighting Kairos in his bullshit ambush stance.
Mod developers of Europa Barbarorum: Your garrisons for minor settlements are too huge, your buildings and armies are too slow and expensive and also, no, actually, I think my armies should be able to cross the distance between the borders of Denmark and Saxony in a single winter.
*-(If I'm being cruelly honest, I don't think anyone should be making Civilization, but that's probably more my distaste for turn-based 4x games.)
