how to add nuance to a character:
make them lie
#sorry i was thinking about topaz hsr#i had the realization that her character (and my opinion of her) would improve so much if they made her backstory a lie#to gain belobog's trust and to make her seem like a more sympathetic person#even if she still genuinely empathized with them#it would add SO MUCH to her character#like mihoyo wants SO BADLY for her to be a sympathetic character and to be the “friendly stoneheart/ipc executive”#but she's still a stoneheart. so they have to make her at least a little cutthroat#and right now it feels like those two traits of hers are kinda cancelling each other out????????????#idk some of her writing sounds like a billionaire going “you and i aren't so different” to a single mom on the verge of destitution#and i feel like making her fabricate a false backstory to gain an advantage would just wrap all her traits into a neat little bow#she's cutthroat and driven but also empathetic and can be moved by displays of human resilience and determination#what was this post about
