recently we had a patron trying to set up an insurance plan - she just came in to print out a statement then realized the plan was wrong, so she had to call the company to get more information. they told her the only way to change the plan was with the member portal online, and that someone from that department could help her change it over the phone, but she had to set up the account first. it was a slow day so i was able to help her do that, BUT THEN. after entering and submitting all the information. it did not send her an email to finish setting up the account. we ended up calling again and i spoke with someone with her (again, it was VERY dead and we were just at the desk trying to figure this out) BUT because this was for her HUSBANDS insurance they wanted HIM to confirm the information and the reason she was doing this for him is because he is over NINETY and CANT. and i'm not against saying "yes thats me" when youre calling on behalf of someone else but i dont think i couldve passed as a 90 year old man. anyway i wrote down everything that he was going to need to tell them and exactly the steps she needed to take and told her she could come back the next day for help setting up the account (i think once the account is set up i will be able to make the changes for her without needing to make another call) but she hasn't been back :(
#also that same morning i helped someone renew a license for her job#and she was like i gotta get this done so i can work tomorrow!#girl TOMORROW???#the website i guess was different than when she'd done it in the past and it was a nightmare to navigate tbh#BUT getting her logged in/set up was like pulling teeth#she couldnt recover her password because she didn't know her email password#she couldn't recover her email password because it wanted to sent a code to a recovery email address as WELL as a text#the text was fine but she couldnt get into the other email either#so she was like i dont usually have to do this because its all logged in on my ipad#and eventually i had to be like ma'am how far did you come from i think you may need to go get your ipad and come back#and she did and we were able to do it#but my god#anyway trying not to put TOO much information#and also making it unrebloggable#bc this is just me talking about stuff i dont want to share stories about patrons TOO far

currently having the stupidest problem where the health insurance I had five years ago and the insurance I have now share login credentials but literally all of the information they have on me is out of date including my email and phone number thanks to the actions of my bastard father (though we have since reconciled)
figuring out that this was the problem at all was itself a weeks-long feat. I couldn't register an account with my new insurance because it said I already had one, but nothing I tried worked. I never received emails when I tried to recover my username and reset my password. finally I had to call an actual person, who eventually was able to uncover my username. It was a bizarre string of three letters and four numbers - my old employee ID from my first lab job. and, yup, the email all the resets went to? defunct. how the fuck could I have known I'd need access to this login for the rest of my LIFE? anyways she was able to send a recovery email to my NEW email...except I never received it. I waited a lot longer than the three days she said to expect (I've been busy)
so today I finally dug my old laptop out. It's a huge pain to use because it must be plugged in at times or it dies. and my old password manager is a word document (unlicensed and thus unsearchable) despite these hardships I actually did find my old password - and it worked! if only it hadn't wanted my old phone number to confirm it was me! then my next ordeal began. the helpline listed of course brought me to a phone tree - I tried the most likely of my unlikely options and - wrong! agent transferred me back to the phone tree. this time I just said 'operator' and had to give them all my information again. then THEY transferred me to their internet helpline, which turned out to be somebody on the other side of the planet. which normally wouldn't be an issue, but it must have been this lady's first day on the job or SOMETHING because I swear it took her more than five minutes to correctly type three letters followed by four numbers. the call was 24 minutes long and all of that was her just trying to pull up my account using my name and birth date, then my member and group ID, then my username. by the time she got to my social security number I was like, SORRY but WHO do you work for? [current insurance] or [name of stupid third-party credentialing service]? turns out it was [current insurance] so I was like, oh thank you for your help but I think I need to contact someone else. and then there was SILENCE...so I just hung up. 24 minutes and she couldn't pull my account up! insane. it wasn't her fault so I was not rude to her but holy shit 24 minutes. my health insurance everyone. cannot afford to pay anyone more qualified. even though my insurance premium is over $200/paycheck. okay.
anyways I then knew I needed to contact [old insurance]. so again, tried to log in, but was stymied by lack of access to my old phone number. but this time they had a chat bot! so I give the bot my error code. after it suggested I try a bunch of things that already had not worked, it connected me with a real person. despite taking an eternity to type, this lady figured out she couldn't help me fairly quickly and gave me...another phone number to call! amazing!
this number turned out to be the first number I had called weeks ago, the one that told me to wait for an email that never came. I think the woman who answered was the same too. This time, though, she was able to just...change my phone number?? and then I could just...log in??? crazy stuff. why was it easier for her to change my phone number verses send a new email a password reset? only god knows. but thank god I was able to find that old password or I think I would just be fucked.
now I can try to find an allergist, since the one I had my referral sent to last august never contacted me, and my doctor either forgot to send it again after I asked him or they just straight up ignored him too. really looking forward to making a appointment for a minimum 6 months in the future!
