Keeping it going, the first requeue to walk the path of Damage:

Zenyatta

New Role: Damage Health: 200 (all normal health)

An Omnic wanderer who found himself among the Shambali Monastery, Zenyatta lived a peaceful existence hopeful for the rest of his troubled kind to find peace as well. However, the peace inside himself was disturbed when his former master, Mondatta, was one of the many casualties during an attack by the terrorist organization Talon, during what was meant to be a speech of his to ease tension between humans and omnics. Seeing that sitting idly by would do no good to the world, Zenyatta took to travelling it, using his monk training to defend the defenseless he encountered on the way, taking destiny into his own hands.

This reiteration of Zenyatta takes his role as a monk into a direction I think more familiar to TTRPG players, where he has a more hands-on approach to combat... well, and feet-on, as in feet on the ground. In perhaps the most controversial part of this whole AU, Zenyatta now walks along the ground, in fact having an above-average walking speed similar to Tracer and Genji in the normal game. He takes a battle-ready martial arts stance, ready to take on foes with an almost entirely new kit.

His primary fire should look familiar to that of another Shambali student: Force Strikes. Using both arms in a successive series of punches and palm thrusts, Zenyatta deals high damage in close range, but also fires faint bursts of energy that do reduced damage at a slightly further range before dissipating completely past that point.

His secondary fire is more similar to what he has normally, a chargeable attack called Focus Pulse. (I'd call it "Focus Blast" but that's a pokemon move already) Hold to charge a blast of energy, and unleash it with both hands. This projectile has infinite range, but its speed and power increases with charge. However, its cooldown also increases, scaling from 3 to 6 seconds depending on how long it was charged.

Zenyatta retains his Snap Kick passive, acting as a way to launch enemies with above-average melee damage that can be combo'd as a quick followup to his normal attack, or put an enemy in ideal range to take a Focus Pulse. However, his first ability is also Snap Kick. It has passive and active versions, like Junker Queen's Jagged Blade. As an ability, Zenyatta launches forward with his foot outstretched. When he collides with an enemy, he bounces the other way, while the enemy is launched in the direction he was travelling. Snap Kick can be aimed to fly in any direction, and covers a decent distance. It can still hit and bounce off an enemy as long as Zenyatta hasn't yet landed.

As a potential bonus passive that I don't think is necessarily essential to his kit, he also has Wall Step. Jump while near a wall to latch onto it, slowly sliding down after a second, then jump again to launch into the direction you're facing. No more than one wall-latch before landing though, so no total Super Mario shenanigans.

For his second ability, he once again takes a page out of his fellow Shambali student's playbook, with Counter Step. Channeling glowing energy into his arms, Zenyatta holds them up and braces for any attack. If he gets hit from the front while in this stance, the attack will be nullified, and Zenyatta can quickly dash a short distance out of the way, completely immune to harm for the duration of the dash.

For his Ultimate, Zenyatta takes a technique we're familiar with, and takes it in a new direction: Transcendent Flurry. Sprouting ethereal extra arms on his back, Zenyatta unleashes a rapid flurry of his normal blows. For the duration of the ultimate, Zenyatta's Force Strikes fire faster, and will increase in speed for every hit that connects. In addition, the strikes deal full damage even with the weaker energy bursts, and Focus Pulse reaches full charge instantly while keeping its shortest possible cooldown. While not a free kill button, it could have potentially devastating effects in the hands of a skilled player. Just keep in mind that Zenyatta is far from invincible while in this form, and in fact gains no defensive buffs.

Oh yeah, visual design. While Zen himself wouldn't physically change at all, his outfit would change slightly, just to reflect his more combat-focused nature. More notably, his orbs wouldn't orbit his neck anymore, instead being worn over his shoulder, only glowing when charging a Focus Pulse. Aside from that, I wouldn't see much need to change him further. Going from floating to walking is enough of a change to visually convey what this version of him is all about.

So yeah, that's Zenyatta! I think this is a fun one, and I'm happy that I was able to sneak in some homages to the playstyles of both his pupil and his spiritual brother, as well as just going ham on the whole martial arts monk theme. Maybe it's a biiiit far off from his existing kit, considering the conspicuous lack of orbs here, but if I could sign off on Widowmaker's even more drastic requeue in confidence, then I think it's fine.

Not sure who's next, but I've got a couple really drastic reworks in mind that could be. Arguably the most drastic ones, considering that they may not even be the same characters.

I remember reading a post talking about mermaids and hair- basically long hair means 'oooh look at me I'm big bad and scary look at my 'extra tentacle limbs' on my head' but imagine this in a mer!Zen au where Zen belongs to a highly regarded nomadic monk-like tribe where they shave their hair down not just as an act of devotion and 'hey look at me I'm bald no scary tentacles here I'm harmless' but also mostly in a 'i don't need hair 2 Fuck u up' kinda way (1/2)

(2/?)And Zen getting caught and put in a showcase where he can’t shave his head like he used to. Maybe he starts growing really pretty white glistening hair that goes along with his koi-fish like body (I love koi-fish mer!zen) and now bc of this Zen tries his hardest to come across as meek and harmless as he can bc he doesn’t want anyone thinking he’s a mean ‘monster’ despite not realizing that humans don’t exactly follow mermaid culture. (3/?) Genji finds this behavior devastatingly adorable and endearing until he finally understands /why/ and rushes to explain to Zen. Zenyatta is utterly relieved and the two grow closer to the point where Zen even allows Genji to not only touch his hair, but groom him as well which soon turns into zen’s /favorite/ activity. What if brushing and grooming is like, borderline an erogenous zone… What if both Genji and Zen find this out long down the road in their relationship? 👀👀 (¾)

(4/4) What if it all starts one day with a nice grooming session and just.. It all spirals down from there 👀👀 Genji notices that Zen is enjoying things a little /too/ much and decides to edge him on? What if one day Zen tries to return the favor?

This is absolute fucking perfection. Maybe fishers encroach on shambali territory and he goes to distract them so his tribe can escape OR maybe this is already wandering zen and he’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Also maybe the idea that Zen has to be kept in captivity for a while because they know they can get more money for him if he has hair. Cue sad Zen as his hair starts to grow in and it covers the top row of his jieba. :

Perhaps they go around to important buyers and Genji happens to see him when he’s on meetings with his father. 

Also a cute trope where maybe if a mermaid kisses you you can understand them. Need me that didney shit. Also Zen singing once when he’s happy and Genji stumbling in and accidentally getting entraced hahaha.

The best sense of humour. Whoever said enlightenment wasn’t funny hasn’t met Zenyatta yet. Once his students asked him how to prepare for the embrace of the Iris. Zenyatta spoke about the personal journey leading them there, about how the Iris is a place of calming warmth and blinding light and … advised them to bring sunglasses.

And maybe part of the reason he left the Shambali was because they couldn’t deal with a handful of initiates turning up to every lesson in sunglasses “just in case the Iris passed us by”

Gets up to the wildest shenanigans if he has the chance. Mondatta was the only one who could sort of deal with his mischief but after Genji got over his initial hostility towards Zenyatta, the whole order just collectively gave up because there is no stopping these two if they work together

Very good with children. I like to think his core programming was based on pre-Crisis omnic nannies and that is what made him naturally able to empathise with others and, as a side effect, he has an uncanny ability to connect with children.

They love playing with him because he thinks up the best make-believe stories and gets as into it as the kids, forgetting everything around him

One of the few omnics who genuinely enjoys hugs. For most it’s superfluous as they can perceive touch on a basic level only, but Zenyatta spends a lot of time among humans who are often in need of guidance and comfort and hugs come with the territory. After years of this he’s come to look forward to this way of showing affection and isn’t shy about initiating them

This one is based 100% on one of his Hollywood lines, but he fanboys to absolute abandon over his favourite actor. The one time he met him in person he got so excited he nearly blew a fuse. At some point he discovers amateur theater and if his life were a fraction less busy he would be consumed by it

Has once played the role of Lafayette/Madison in an all-omnic production of Hamilton and through various crazy circumstances he had to flee the theater and fight bad guys in the outrageous magenta coat. He still has it and wears it for special occasions.

Wait, but Zenyatta is like. The whole thing about him is that he left the Shambali to do his own thing anyway, or am I reading his bio wrong? And not all monks are celibate. Why are people arguing about whether or not a fictional robot is allowed to do it? Like, if you wanna play it that he's celibate, rad! That's an interesting and valid exploration of his character! If you don't, also rad! That's also an interesting and valid exploration of his character too! Why are things that are a matter of personal interpretation and normal fandom shenanigans being made into serious discourse as if lives are on the line? It's strange to me because the people acting like this is literally the most offensive horrible thing are like. American nondenominational 22 year olds and I'm sitting here asking, "who are you protecting by yelling at people for portraying a fictional robot a certain way?"
