"I had a contempt for the uses of modern natural philosophy. It was very different, when the masters of the science sought immortality and power; such views, although futile, were grand: but now the scene was changed. The ambition of the inquirer seemed to limit itself to the annihilation of those visions on which my interest in science was chiefly founded. I was required to exchange chimeras of boundless grandeur for realities of little worth."
Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft. FRANKENSTEIN or The Modern Prometheus (Uncensored 1818 Edition - Wisehouse Classics) (p. 27).

it's probably not in my nature (cause I like DRAMA), but I wonder if I'll ever write an all-women mystical order that's like. more wholesome lol. the one Soyolmaa belongs to is possible the closer I'll come to: worthy goal, conscious of diplomatic practices; sure, some members did grave robbing, and there's some unintentional ritual cannibalism and then some INTENTIONAL ritual cannibalism, but nobody's perect.
then there's the Galatea, the one Leena escapes. there's more to it but think "CIA-levels of unethical transnational bullshit and ALSO they have machines to mess with the deepest corners of your mind."

I was thinking about how yes, I significantly reduced the main cast in the redstart's ledger, but I definitely kept the characters that concentrated the "mismatched outlaws with mommy issues" them.
Zira: yeah so, my mother may or may not be death. her world-famous disappearance made her really popular among the true crime weirdos in my planet.
Alegría: my mother basically adopted me as a prop, and dropped at the first (admittedly disastrous) mistake I made at 15, deciding I was too much trouble and leaving me to fence for myself.
Alastair: my mother was so freaked out by my psychic powers she tried to drown me in a tub when I was a child. then she sold me to a royal family.
Latoya: ....... well I couldn't POSSIBLY top all of that [mother is a mass murdering dictator]. Leena: I grew up in an orphanage, so I don't have mommy issues. the others: no surrogate figures at all? mommy issues don't forgive. Leena: oh. Then yeah, I fucked my mom.

"Captain Latoya stayed submerged in the luxurious bathtub until her fingertips turned pruney. With eyes clossed in blissed solitude and the pleasant scent of sandalwood on her nostrils, Latoya muttered a solemn vow to herself: that she wouldn't be reduced to rely on the indignity of a communal shower ever again."
LIMINAL STATES: WIP INTRO
audience: adult. genre(s): space fantasy, adventure, cyberpunk. style: omniscient narrator. type: first installment in a series of novels.
Setting
A faraway galaxy already heavily populated by sapient before humans arrived and colonised it, something that already occurred a long time ago. It's a conflictive territory where tensions are high between different planets, species, or organizations trying to claim an extra smidge of power for themselves.
Summary
Captain Latoya is a pirate, an alien-human hybrid, and the descendant of tyrants. A sketchy group has helped her get an early release from prison, and its leader wants her to work for them. But in less than twenty-four hours Latoya meets a mysterious and beautiful woman, gets her aid to steal a ship with a faulty artificial intelligence, and scapes with the crew of mismatched criminals that had been put together for her. Now they're on the run, targeted by more people they're aware of as they encounter unexpected adventures in their path.
Characters
Latoya 😈
30 | Black, brown-skinned, tall, slender. Short wiry black hair, big hawk nose. Red eyes with a black sclera; two sets of sharp fangs; vestigial, black, membranous wings.
Once the heir of a now fallen empire, is now a feared pirate captain across the galaxy (interrupted by a brief stint in prison that affected her more than she'd care to admit, after the betrayal of a former crew). Arrogant, idealistic, ruthless, sharp, brave. She's a killer, a history savant, a natural performer and a hopeless romantic.
Leena ⛏
25 | Black, notoriously dark-skinned, toned, over two meters tall. Long black hair in twist braids, dark brown eyes.
On the run from the people who trained her and practically raised her, Leena is an enhanced human lacking in social graces shrouded in mystery. She has a perfectionist, proud, sentimental, curious and rebellious nature, a weakness for pretty and useless things, and the sticky fingers to grab them. Those get her in trouble when she tries to pickpocket Latoya at the worse possible time.
Alastair 🧠
22 | White, wafer-thin, sickly pale. Blonde, with green eyes. Webbed hands, horizontal pupils.
A talented and dangerous telepath held at bay by her own scruples. She got recruited by the same organization that helped Latoya, after the situation in the royal court she worked in went sideways for her. She's paranoid, resilient, and a social chameleon.
Alegría 🔥
28 | White, short, fat, curvy. Long, fine red hair, dark eyes, rosy complexion. Completely human in appearance.
Pyrokinetic. She was cut away from her family for years after her hidden powers manifested in regrettable ways, taking odd jobs to get by until debt caught up to her. She's bold, almost painfully earnest and sincere, bubbly in appearance but reserved in personal matters.
Zira 🩺
36 | Black, dark-skinned, short, bony. Long curly hair always out of the way, dark eyes, wide mouth often pursed.
A once renowned surgeon fallen from grace and dissatisfied with her current job. She's generally hard-hearted, shameless, sensible, promiscuous, extremely competent under pressure, and just equally fearful of failure.
Redstart 🤖
Age unknown. Disembodied. With a soothing, raspy voice.
The faulty, and at first nameless, artificial intelligence carrying the spaceship. Their personality will develop alongside the story, as they seemingly grow outside the abilities of regular AIs and bond with the crew.
OTHER CHARACTERS OF IMPORTANCE:
Latoya's family 👑: Queen Emeritus Tivona (grandmother, executed during the uprising), Empress Casiphia (mother, fate unknown); Prince Mahlon (father, political prisoner), Princess Sade (older sister, fate unknown).
Ra & the Magpie 💔: vigilante duo in a crussade that crosses paths with the crew.
Leith 🐍: woman leading the organisation that recruits them.
The Priestess 🚩: member of the Galatea chasing Leena.
Latoya's old crew 🏴‍☠️: the ones that betrayed her. Decima (her quartermaster), Azumi & Joram (con-artist duo), and some others.
taglist (send an ask to be added/removed): @thebluesthourcommunity
WIP masterlist.

(from @flowerprose)
dusty rose, blood red, and primrose yellow!!
Dusty Rose: Your personal favourite character in your wip
I'm intensely boring and my favourite character, so far, has always been the lead character. The pattern isn't likely to change. The question would be whether I pick them as the lead because they're my favourites, or whether they inevitably become my favourites because I explore the leads more than I do anybody else.
And among all WIPs, I'd name Captain Latoya as my overall favourite. She's very special to me <3
Blood Red: Favourite piece of dialogue from your wip
It'd be impossible to pick (especially as they're undergoing a ~transformation process at the time LOL, in the hopes that I'd get to finish something soon...). But in the spirit of the question, I'll post something I wrote for a scene of a confrontation between Latoya and her mother Casiphia, whose main goal is to return to Amentet to retake her empire:
“That girl didn’t exist, mother. Everything she was and everything she had was immaterial, ghostly; it was gone with a whisper. Twice I've lost everything, and twice I clawed my way back up. Countless people are terrified of me because I took them for all they had; or simply because they know enough to fear that I could do it. I brought down the Galatea. I escaped from Penjara. The king of Besalt cried and begged me for his life like a little child! That is all real and that is all mine. You say you lost everything, but I thrived. I am Captain Latoya of the Redstart, and I am as solid as they come.”
This excerpt would belong to a second installment; it might not look exactly like this (even just know I made a few minor edits!), but it will remain in some form because it's key to Latoya, her dynamic with her mother, and the series' progression as a whole.
Primrose Yellow: What’s your least favourite genre to write?
Well, if I don't want to write in a genre, because I don't like it, I simply... don't write it LOL. On that vein, I guess something that would be terribly difficult for me to write would be like... a contemporary f/m romance without any semblance of fantasy elements. And if I were forced to do it, I couldn't possibly go through the ordel without high doses of cutthroat satire and/or the complete demolition of typical gender roles.

So far I had always decided against including past love interests (for lack of a better term) in Latoya and Leena's story, but lately I find myself thinking of going there.
Neither case would be pretty or straightforward; if I'm honest I doubt I have that in me. I also think it would be interesting to see them react to each other's romantic past, or how the specific relationships in question would help inform their respective character journeys.
Most importantly, the resulting dynamic between them would be messier, more dysfunctional and volatile than it (already) was in previous iterations. And I think that would fit the version of the story that's taking shape in my head like a glove.

👑⚔️🐝 QUEENSLAYERBEE'S INTRO 👑⚔️🐝
a bit about me
I was born in 1996 in Spain, where I've lived all my life, and I've been in tumblr for a few years. Recently I pondered making a new writeblr, keeping the older one as an archive, to give more distance between my original stories and my fandom presence. The final push was, of all things, an absurdist dream where among many other bizarre occurrences, I had a page with this title.
The B(ee) was for the initial in my first name (and certain affinity to said animals; or at least to their honey 🤤). "Slayer" was to satisfy my anti-monarchy sensibilities, I suppose! Or maybe a Buffy Summers reference. With me, it could be either.
I write speculative fiction in many forms, always directed at adult audiences, and always, always centered in women. At the moment all my stories are in progress; even the short stories I had a draft ready for are going through a remodeling process. However, I hope to slowly post WIP intros of each, as well as updates on my progress and excerpts, once I'm a little less busy in my regular life.
You're also welcome to send me questions, but I ask for a little patience as I know I'll be slow to answer.
You can take a peek at my stories under the cut; I'll update the information below and add links as I build up this space.
multipart series in progress
-THE REDSTART'S LEDGER. In a faraway galaxy already heavily populated before it was colonized by humans, Captain Latoya -pirate, hybrid, daughter of tyrants- has an eventful day. After being released from prison by a suspicious organisation, she meets a mysterious and beautiful woman, and steals a ship with a faulty artificial intelligence, now on the run with a new crew of mismatched criminals. [space fantasy].
-THE WICKED WITCHES OF TRICKSTOWN. Early 1980s. Everyone knows the town of Trickstown, USA, is cursed. It's never more clear than when you look at the lives of three young women: Sadie, a talented witch; Gillian, her non-magical, abrasive best friend, and Denise, the prodigal daughter returning to town to clear up the murder of her last living relative... where everything points to Sadie as the culprit. [dark fantasy]
-THE TRAVELS OF SOYOLMAA. In a world of creatures of magic alongside humans born without it, Soyolmaa, an immortal centenarian woman, has lived through medieval times into a futuristic society. Part of a now disolved order of fellow human women turned invulnerable, she's determined to continue honouring their mission of making information available to the masses. Strange adventures, hidden treasures, and historical mysteries will interrupt her path. [high fantasy]
As Soyolmaa's particular interest within her order consisted on folklore and legend, her chronicles are accompanied by short stories she hears on her travels. These are the most solid ideas I have so far:
"Petal Decay". Gyeong, a young Mirou from the fruitful and flowery valley, is taken to the tundra to enter an arranged marriage with an ice monster as condition to a peace treaty. [dark fairytale]
"The Leech of Wonderland". Vivian is a naive girl living in a land with no more than three hours of daylight during social season. In her debut she'll meet a strange, entrancing suitor that hides a dangerous secret. [gothic horror]
"A Smile Like a Breath of Spring". The courtly tale of woe of Lady Sabine and Sir Yvonne. [courtly love epic, paranormal romance]
"Chasing Fanny". Series of stories written by Soyolmaa's late friend about two human women in a city of monsters: Giulietta, a lovelorn private investigator, and Fanny, the femme fatale who seduced and wronged her. [noir, satire]
standalones
-"All About Eve(s)" (novel). 1950, Paris. Magical creatures of folklore have coexisted with humans for generations. It's still the shock of her life when Eva, a young woods fae and a Spanish exile, finds herself face to face with her hateful older self. [magical realism]
-"Beneath the Foam" (novella). Three unhappy sisters lived in the city of Qadis during Al-Andalus' times. The youngest disappears, the middle one hides secrets, and the eldest must go against the timid nature that was nurtured upon her to save them all. [historical fantasy, horror]
-"A Child's Covenant" (novelette). Years ago Vela requested the fairies' aid to free herself from the monsters raising her at home. Now the fairies want to collect the debt. [dark fairytale]
-"Underground Elysium" (novelette). When rotting corpses awoke and began feasting on humans, one visionary vampiress took the opportunity to put her species at the top of the new world order. But it's election season, and Lucretia's position is put in danger for the first time. [political fantasy]
-"House of Providence" (novelette). A pair of mirror twin sisters and their stern, identical mother live in a quaint house that hides a horrible secret. [gothic horror]
-"The Wings Behind The Stage" (novelette). When an angel becomes obsessed with a play in progress the actors in the production, and especially the central, past-her-prime diva, are caught in its game. [existential horror]
-"One Over Many" (novelette). It's been a year since the day men disappeared. Maude, however, is more concerned with investigating the same-day disappearance of one Odette Farrow, with whom she feels a strange connection. [mystery]
untitled, vague ideas
-magical boarding school WIP. Co-dependant female friendship, betrayals, well-kept secrets, horror.

👑⚔️🐝 2023 WRITING GOALS 👑⚔️🐝
I'm seeing posts like these from my mutuals so I thought. Why not.
The least said about my 2022 goals the better LOL. It's been a busy year. And the next one is not going to be that much better, so I'm going for modest goals here.
Elaborate a basic outline of my three multipart series (The Redstart's Ledger, The Wicked Witches of Trickstown, and The Travels of Soyolmaa). They're bound to be altered when I actually sit down to write them, that's just my MO, but I want to have a clearer idea of where I'm going.
Re-make the stories I had drafts all ready for ("Petal Decay" and "A Child's Covenant") until I decided to include significant changes in them (...). And share them for feedback!
Finish at least two short stories. Maybe start sending them out to magazines.
Write a complete first draft of "All About Eve(s)" for NaNoWriMo.
