Hello, have you talker about your art process anywhere? I am very interested in how you got into glitch art/photomanipulation/however you’d call this, and i want to learn more. Do you have programs you use, plugins, do you use any physical media or scanography/scanner manipulation? I really want to hear about anything you wanna talk about regarding the creation process for your art. Thank you for sharing your work.
Yes! Unfortunately, I tried answering this question in a ton of detail but tumblr didn’t save it as a draft automatically - which was a frustrating experience to say the least - so this is my second attempt at answering this ask — you’ve asked a lot of really valuable questions here, I’ll do my best to be concise in my answers!
When I first began playing around with editing software, I was 16 and simply wanted to make memes and silly edits. This was around 2015-2016, whenever vaporwave was a fresh concept and Resonance was trending on Vine — which is a sentence that makes me feel fucking ancient. I was really entranced by vaporwave, which had this off-white nostalgia for post-consumerist 80s and 90s cultural trends. I later became interested in how many of those cultural trends persisted and evolved into Y2K culture and beyond.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are some of the images I was working on during that period of time, which were loosely inspired by indie horror and jazz cups and soundcloud rap. I was so proud of learning how to make my own scanlines using GIMP :)
Late 2016 I began my freshman year at a hoighty-toighty art school that I was too poor to attend, and quickly entered a mental health downward spiral — but I learned many valuable things, most of that info was painfully basic; my education prior to that was not anything special. I would not consider myself someone with exceptional aptitude for art — I just have a chronic compulsion to break things.
So, where to begin? My recommendation to anyone who’s newly interested in this style of artwork and editing:
Glitchet is a repository of info regarding many different styles and methods of distortion - from sonification to slipscans, there’s a ton of good info to comb through. Most of the techniques and tools covered are free to use, but there is some paid stuff out there too - but if you know your way around, virtually everything is free. More on that shortly :)
As for my process, programs, plugins, etc - there is a lot, and I don’t think I can cover everything. Primarily: Photoshop, After Effects, GIMP, ArtStudio Pro for iOS, Procreate, DestroyPix, and a number of other pieces of software that perform smaller, specific functions - such as BigJpg for AI-upscaling. I also employ analogue/physical distortion techniques like circuit-bending, slipscan, and more. These require additional hardware and knowledge; such as access to a copier/scanner, old CRT screens, and the ability to solder + work with low voltage electronics without accidentally shorting them out. Best part is that you can ✨layer✨ anything and everything, collage style — which is my favorite aspect, very playful and exploratory.
Now, if you’re like me and can’t afford fuck-all, but wholeheartedly believe that money should not be a limiting factor for creativity, I recommend installing the Adobe Creative Suite from downloadpirate(dot)com - which is also where I’ve gotten many of my plugins, although I do also pay for the plugins that I come to really appreciate, as they’re typically done by independent developers who could actually use the scratch. Same risks as any pirate cove: intrusive ads, popups, and redirect chains - use Ublock Origin to kill these annoyances. I recommend performing a scan with Malwarebytes after using any sketchy-looking-download site, but I was raised to be a bit paranoid so that’s purely preferential.
As for plugins:
Tumblr media
Filenames in this image may correspond with the developer of the plugin — you can just search the filename + ‘after effects plugin’ and you’ll almost certainly find your way.
Most commonly, I use Pixelsorter, Pixdither, Displacer Pro, Pixel Stretch, and Hacksaw — although some of the plugs that I use aren’t listed above, like Datamosher, which is a script-based solution that helps remove i-frames from a clip in After Effects, all without having to use VLC and any handwritten scripts (the ol’ fashioned way).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are all from the last year or so, to show the relative growth I’ve experienced since my time spent as a creature of 16 years. Naturally, I’m also like, more of a person now - so the art is partly better because I’ve simply suffered more :p
When I started, I didn’t know any of the jargon or how to describe a specific effect I was trying to achieve - so I taught myself how to do stuff by googling around, and if I couldn’t find an answer (which was 90% of the time) I’d just try to figure shit out. Which rarely ever resulted in outright success, but was always a significant learning experience. That’s why I’m so quick to drop the link to Glitchet! Sometimes I can’t help but wonder what I’d be doing now if I had known there was an online library for info on how to produce different types of distortions - definitely would’ve spent less time trial-and-erroring my way through aesthetics.
In conclusion: there’s so much to try and you should try absolutely everything that interests you. It’s free if you’re cool enough to steal it; though some things (like hardware) are gonna cost. You don’t need talent or an exceptional education, though both of those things would certainly help — and you’ll never run out of things to learn because there are infinite ways to break shit. More so than anything else, you need a willingness to explore, experiment, and fail often. You’ll fail miserably at times, so a proclivity for humiliation is also a big plus. Eventually your failures will start looking like successes; but you’ll have forgotten the difference by then and will be free to make whatever the fuck you want :)
I’m glad that you enjoy the work! tumblr has always been the best place for me to share my lil jpegs and actually find a real sense of connection with others who are similarly jazzed. My life completely bottomed-out a few years ago and I was in a really bad place whenever I logged into my blog for the first time in half-a-decade and started posting again. My personal growth from then to now has been a strange and incredible experience, and I’m so glad that I had the art and the funny little gays on this website to help me through the toughest points and teach me valuable things about myself; so if I can give back a little knowledge, I’ll gladly take that opportunity! I hope these findings serve you as well as they’ve served me.

I heard Kyoko is the Ultimate Gloved Handjob Pro - if so how many dicks can she milk in under one hour?
Lewd topics lie below!
"Normally, a person would have to go through quite a bit of trouble to round up so many volunteers for an experiment like this... but luckily, I have connections." Kyoko stated proudly as she swiped a key-card through a scanner, opening a door to a special interrogation room.
Upon entering said room, one would be able to see that it is not only way larger than an interrogation room has any business being, but that it had a large screen mounted on the wall and was also crowded with dozens of men wearing orange jumpsuits.
"Here's the deal, boys..." Kyoko raised her voice as she walked in so that the whole room could hear her. "I won't beat around the bush. I plan on making every last one of you ejaculate within an hour. If anybody tries anything funny or gets in my way, I'll simply leave." She stated bluntly as she tightened one of her gloves. The inmates stare forward, some looking excited and others looking unsure.
"Oh, and if one of you manages to last past the time limit... I'll stay an extra hour~" Kyoko smirked as she watched them all collectively drop their jumpsuits to the floor.
"Let's get down to business, then." She then pulled out a remote and pointed it at the large screen. With the click of a button, it turned on. Displaying a 60-minute timer along with a counter.
—————
"I'm happy to see that they listened to my request to gather the most well-endowed inmates." The detective observed as she used one hand to jerk off a man who had a fairly big member. Simultaneously, she caressed his balls with her other hand, determined to make him ejaculate fast.
SPLUURRRT!
And ejaculate he did!
"... It seems they could have picked a better challenge for me, though... Next!" Kyoko sighed before calling the next person over.
—————
"If you expected me to be easily overwhelmed, you'll be thoroughly disappointed." The acclaimed Ultimate Gloved Handjob Pro boasted as she sat on her knees between two particularly gifted specimens.
Around them stood others waiting their turn, and some resting on the ground, attempting to recover from the lightning fast milking of their semen.
The perpetrator of the milking smirked confidently as she stroked both cocks at the same time with a swiftly professional technique.
The two men struggled to comprehend what exactly made this girl so good at making them finish. Was it the intense and calculating pace at which she was jerking them off? Or perhaps it was the feeling of her warm leather gloves firmly squeezing their shafts. Either way, all they knew was that it hadn't even been a minute yet since their turn started, and they already felt like they were going to—
SPLUURRRT!
Kyoko simply closed her eyes and allowed the two loads to rain down on her. Once their release was over, she called over two more inmates, not paying any mind to how much jizz currently covered her.
—————
TIME'S UP!
—————
SPLUURRRT!
The sound of the final rope of spunk landing upon on her face was like music to Kyoko's ears. It was safe to say that she was satisfied with her work. Confidently, she looked over to the screen and examined the results.
Time Remaining - 00:00
Total Cocks Ejaculated: 40
"Hmm... not bad, I suppose. Though, I'm disappointed that I was forced to stop at just forty. I'm sure that if I had access to more and went fast enough, I could definitely get at least fifty. Oh well, I should go take a shower. Better luck next time, gentlemen." Kyoko bid her subjects goodbye as she turned and exited the room, tracing a finger across her messy cheek and then popping it in her mouth with a satisfied look on her face.

Misadventures in American Public Transit #4: The Airplane
If the Wright Brothers could see the state of commercial aviation today, they never would have invented the airplane. Prove me wrong.
Obviously I'm exaggerating. But there are serious flaws with American air travel that high speed rail all the more essential.
The TSA: at best, they slow you down, make you take off your shoes, unpack and repack your laptop, and generally be a nuisance. Then there's the times that they want to pat you down. I cringed at the sight of their screens, after I passed through the full body scanner, which showed an anomaly in my genital area. They patted me down last time I flew. It's billions of dollars totally wasted.
2. Planing and Deplaning: I never understood why a perk of spending more money for your ticket was to board the plane earlier. I don't give a shit if I'm the first person on or the last person. The plane will not take off until everybody has boarded. Boarding first means you have more time to sit in those cramped airplane seats. It is notoriously slow to file in and out of an airplane, and needlessly so.
People like CPG Grey love to overcomplicate things, theorizing optimal mathematical algorithms for boarding when true solutions are right in front of our faces.
youtube
So how can boarding actually be made better? Goddamn it, do it like trains. No mathematical formula for boarding would beat these two suggestions. 1) Stop assigning seats ahead of time. You claim your seat by sitting in it. 2) Have multiple doors for boarding. Shoving hundreds of people in through a single door has always been madness. Trains can board and deboard masses in seconds. It's long past time for planes to do the same.
3. The Idiocy of airline pricing: I'm not even talking about all the extra fees associated with flying. Everybody knows how annoying that is. What I'm talking about is a pricing model that would make an economist's head spin. What I'm talking about is this.
Tumblr media
See this? This is a google price graph (Generated Feb. 21) of the cost to fly from New York to San Francisco on June 1. Why does the price dip? You have to be a psychic to play the airline pricing game. Price go up, price go down. Buy the Dip! Oops. you missed it, you have to pay more now. I don't like this. I want straightforward incentives to help me know when to buy. Amtrak for contrast, prices tickets lower, and raises prices as tickets are sold. I can buy a train ticket not worrying that I'm wasting money by not waiting for the dip.
So intrepid consumers try to save cash. They notice something weird. Sometimes, it is literally cheaper to buy a ticket to a far away place with a layover in a closer place than just to buy a ticket to the nearer place directly. It confounds common sense and is not how the world is supposed to work, according to economics. Don't believe me? Here's an example. (Prices checked on Feb. 21st)
Tumblr media
On July 1st Delta flight 528 from Los Angeles to Atlanta costs $249. Or does it?
Tumblr media
If you want to fly from Los Angeles to Fort Meyers FL, with a layover in Atlanta, it costs $144. Same airline. Same day. And same fucking flight. The first leg of the journey is provided by our old friend Delta flight 528.
So enterprising travelers start skiplagging. (cough cough search https://skiplagged.com/) They simply exit the airport at the layover airport, getting the correct price for a flight which was clearly mispriced. Surely, airline CEO's see this, and immediately fix their obtuse, opaque, and incredibly frustrating pricing system. Surely, airlines don't want to have a system in place which rewards people for buying seats they don't need, depriving travelers who do need them. Right?
Tumblr media
But if you guessed they were going to be giant dicks about it, bonus points for you. Because we live in the worst timeline, they have decided to contractually enforce this insanity. It is a violation of the terms of service for most major airlines to skiplag. Take a look at this gem from Delta.
"Delta prohibits ticketing practices intended to circumvent the published fare that Delta intends to offer for your true itinerary. These practices include:.. 3) Hidden City/Point Beyond Ticketing - The purchase or usage of a fare from a point before the passenger's actual origin or to a point beyond the passenger's actual destination."
Imagine going to law school, thinking you're going to make the world a better place, only to sell out to commercial airlines and have to write shit like this to make the world a worse place.
Tumblr media
(I hope the lawyers got paid a lot of money). I'm calling on congress to enact legislation to prohibit airlines from punishing customers for skiplagging.
We would not accept these shenanigans anywhere else. Can you imagine if at the grocery store, buying 10 oranges was cheaper than buying 5, but buying 11 was more expensive again? Can you imagine if to get into the store, you were required to wait in line while security guards with a better retirement plan than you made you take off your shoes, and funneled you in, one by one, through a single entrance, and assigned you a part of the store rather than let you pick where you started shopping? Nobody would accept this. Air travel can and be should be better. Much Better.
In Conclusion:
Plane bad, train good

So the very first is the horrifically smudge tool blurred cat in the top-left from 2007 (had to also smudge out my old username)
I had occasional access to my mom's tablet and PS on her desktop and generally used it to color stuff I'd drawn on paper, but that was the 1st wholly digital thing I created, and the 1st piece of art I ever put on dA :V the other 3 are pieces I posted immediately after in the same gallery
I don't have a scanner atm and generally don't draw much on paper unless the mood rly strikes (though I think getting in the habit of doing some gestures n warm-ups on paper is a good idea), so everything is p much exclusively digital now despite my degree being in traditional Fine Arts lol (I was a Drawing & Illustration major)
The learning curve from traditional to digital was always really fucking steep for me and I KNOW traditional tablets (plugged into a PC) are much better for you ergonomically, I have always had a miserable experience bc the disconnect of not looking at the surface my hand is drawing on. I got an iPad Pro + Apple pencil mid-2020 and have had an absolute blast since :'0 would love to figure out how to fund one w a larger screen + slightly more internal memory, but that's $1200 + tax 😭 I could trade my current one in for a few hundred since it's pristine, but that's still $$$$ so alas ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I do miss doing watercolor and recently grabbed a block so I can start again, so I need to make a point of clearing a space in part of our apartment that gets good natural light so I can shake off the cobwebs \o/

Hey there, tech lovers! 🖐️ So, there’s this buzz going around, and it's all about the Google Pixel 9 Pro. Now, I know what you're thinkin'—"Do I really need another phone in my life?" Well, let me tell ya, the Pixel 9 Pro ain't just another phone. It's like the Jedi Knight of smartphones. Seriously. What's all the fuss about? Alright, so the Google Pixel 9 Pro has been getting some mad hype lately. People are saying it's a game-changer, a real beast in the smartphone jungle. But is it? 🤔 Let's dive into what makes this bad boy stand out from the crowd. Camera that's outta this world First things first, the camera. I mean, if you're not taking photos of your brunch or your cute doggo, are you even living? The Pixel 9 Pro comes with a triple-camera setup that can make even a cloudy day look like a freakin' masterpiece. Night mode? Pfft, child's play. This thing shoots like a pro in any light, making those low-light selfies look like they belong in a magazine. Smooth as butter performance Next up, performance. The Google Pixel 9 Pro is like that one friend who’s always on top of things—no lag, no drama. It’s powered by the latest Snapdragon (whatever the heck the number is these days), and let me tell ya, it’s fast. Like, lightning-fast. Multitasking is a breeze, gaming is seamless, and don’t even get me started on video editing. Display that'll make your eyes pop The Pixel 9 Pro has a display that’s sharper than my grandma’s wit. With its AMOLED screen and 120Hz refresh rate, every swipe feels like butter. It’s bright, it’s vivid, and it’s perfect for everything from watching cat videos to scrolling through TikTok. Battery life that goes on and on... And let’s not forget the battery. I mean, what’s the point of having all these sick features if your phone dies halfway through the day? The Google Pixel 9 Pro has a battery that just keeps going. And goin’. And goin’. Like, seriously, you could probably leave it on for a full day of hardcore usage and still have juice left for your midnight scrolling. The little things that make a big difference But, hey, it’s not just about the big stuff, right? It’s the little things, too. Like, the in-display fingerprint scanner that actually works every time (not just when it feels like it). Or the stereo speakers that make your playlist sound like a live concert. Or the clean, smooth Android interface without all that bloatware junk. Verdict: Should you get the Pixel 9 Pro? So, here’s the deal. If you’re lookin’ for a phone that’s got it all—killer camera, top-notch performance, an eye-popping display, and a battery that just won't quit—then the Google Pixel 9 Pro is your guy. Sure, it’s a bit pricey, but hey, you get what you pay for. Plus, with all these features, it’s like having a mini-supercomputer in your pocket. How Does the Google Pixel 9 Pro Stack Up Against the Competition? Alright, now that we've raved about the Google Pixel 9 Pro, it's time to see how it measures up against its biggest rivals. You know the ones—Apple, Samsung, OnePlus. Let's dive into the nitty-gritty and see if the Pixel 9 Pro really is the top dog in the smartphone world. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. iPhone 15 Pro Oh boy, the iPhone 15 Pro. Apple fanatics swear by it, and yeah, it’s a solid phone. But when you put it head-to-head with the Pixel 9 Pro, things get interesting. Camera: The iPhone 15 Pro has a fantastic camera, no doubt. But the Pixel 9 Pro’s camera is on another level. With its superior low-light capabilities and Google's AI magic, the Pixel can make even the most mundane pics look Insta-worthy. Performance: Apple's A17 Bionic chip is unbelievably fast, but the Pixel 9 Pro’s Snapdragon processor isn’t far behind. Both phones can handle anything you throw at them, but the Pixel has a slight edge in multitasking, thanks to its smoother Android experience. Display: Apple’s always had beautiful displays, and the iPhone 15 Pro is no exception. But
the Pixel 9 Pro's AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate just feels smoother and more responsive, especially when scrolling through social media or playing games. Ecosystem: If you’re deep in the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone is a no-brainer. But if you prefer the flexibility of Android and Google services, the Pixel 9 Pro is the way to go. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Then there’s the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the powerhouse from the South Korean giant. It’s big, it’s bold, and it’s packed with features. But can it outshine the Pixel 9 Pro? Camera: Samsung’s been killing it with their camera game, and the S23 Ultra is no exception. It’s got a super zoom feature that’s unbelievably impressive. However, the Pixel 9 Pro excels in overall image quality, especially in low light and with natural-looking colors. Performance: Both phones are equipped with top-of-the-line processors, so you’re getting blazing-fast performance either way. However, Samsung's custom UI can sometimes feel a bit bloated compared to the clean, minimalist approach of Google’s Android experience. Display: The S23 Ultra’s display is one of the best out there—huge, vibrant, and great for media consumption. The Pixel 9 Pro’s display is a tad smaller but just as bright and colorful, plus it's got that 120Hz refresh rate for super smooth scrolling. Extras: Samsung packs a ton of extra features like the S Pen, which is awesome if you’re into that. But if you’re looking for simplicity and a focus on user experience, the Pixel 9 Pro keeps it straightforward and effective. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. OnePlus 11 Pro Let’s not forget the OnePlus 11 Pro, a strong contender known for offering premium features at a slightly lower price point. So, how does it fare against the Pixel 9 Pro? Camera: OnePlus has improved its camera game, but it still doesn’t quite match up to the Pixel 9 Pro. The Pixel’s photo quality, especially in low light, is superior, and Google’s software tweaks make photos look stunning straight out of the camera. Performance: Both the Pixel 9 Pro and OnePlus 11 Pro are incredibly fast, thanks to their latest processors and ample RAM. The difference lies in the software experience—Pixel’s Android is clean and intuitive, while OnePlus’s OxygenOS offers more customization but can be a bit overwhelming for some users. Display: The OnePlus 11 Pro boasts a stunning AMOLED display, similar to the Pixel 9 Pro, but with a slight edge in color accuracy. Both have a 120Hz refresh rate, making them equally smooth when it comes to scrolling and gaming. Battery Life: Both phones have solid battery life, but the Pixel 9 Pro seems to last a bit longer in real-world usage. Plus, Google's adaptive battery feature learns your habits over time to save juice when you need it most. The Final Showdown So, what’s the takeaway here? The Google Pixel 9 Pro doesn’t just hold its own against the big guns—it outright shines in many areas. Whether it’s the unbeatable camera, smooth performance, or clean user experience, the Pixel 9 Pro is a strong contender in the smartphone arena. Final thoughts So, what’s the final word? Is the Google Pixel 9 Pro worth it? Heck yeah, it is! It’s fast, it’s sleek, and it’s packed with features that’ll make your friends green with envy. Whether you’re a photography buff, satiate-watching pro, or just someone who wants a phone that can keep up with your busy life, the Pixel 9 Pro’s got your back. Array

Machine Language
It is one of the most contentious of debates hitting retailers and restaurateurs these days. In their attempt to modernize and incorporate technology at every turn, they invariably wind up offending some customers’ sensibilities, as well as confusing those who no have tech savvy.
And then there are people like me who embrace all the change and have no problem using technology to make my life easier, which I am sure also benefits the business. Bring it, please, and hurry.
I could only be talking about self-serve kiosks, the touch screens and self-scanners that cause people to lose their minds over on social media. They fear jobs being lost and all manner of hypothetical ills. Maybe that’s just a cover for their inability to navigate the onscreen menus, but either way, there has been a line drawn in the sand between those who love and those who hate these things.
But a recent report yields a surprising conclusion: They’ve not been nearly as bad as some speculated, and all those fears of job losses simply did not materialize. In fact, by letting customers do the mundane part of the transaction—the ordering—it frees up employees to perform other essential tasks that help improve the customer experience.
Tumblr media
The benefits of self-serve kiosks, especially in restaurants, are significant. The service level is consistent, removing the human element. Variability both within and between employees is removed by machines that always pitch the upsell at the precise same moment, and customized for each customer. In fact, with AI, it can be better than humans, because the order can be analyzed up to that point and relevant add-ons proposed that fit what the customer ordered.
It’s much better than just “Would you like fries with that shake?” No, now the machine-driven order taker can notice that you ordered a specific type of sauce to go on your taco, and would you like more?
Although fast food is not my thing, I confess to occasionally stopping at a Taco Bell while on long road trips, because I know that I can get bespoke burritos all courtesy of their kiosks. I can add this, delete that, to a far greater degree than you can do just standing there talking to a human, because the majority of the add-ons aren’t even on the menu. Well, not the one hanging on the wall behind the clerk. I am in and out of there in 10 minutes, and back on the road. Avocado and black beans? Yes, please.
Of course, there are downsides to kiosks. If you replace the human interaction aspect completely, thereby forcing customers to use the machines, there may be pushback. Some people are simply intimidated by them, and require assistance. This slows down the process. And, a study has shown that if there is a line at the machines, the same thing happens as when there’s a line to order with a human: We get cranky and order less. Or walk out.
As for supermarkets and other retailers with self-check kiosks, there is the increased risk of theft. It’s just too easy, especially with savvy thieves who tap the screen such that it thinks you are weighing bananas, but in fact laying a T-Bone steak on the scale, it’s easy to see how stores can wind up losing money.
As for me, I am a huge advocate of the self-serve kiosks. I don’t go shopping for chit-chat. I want to expedite everything. I also like packing my own groceries into my reusable shopping bags. Since I have Walmart+, I can simply scan a QR code when I’m ready to leave, and it charges the card I have on file within the app. Easy peasy. Call me a control freak, but I have this down. You can thank COVID for this. I cut my teeth on the system back then, and am now pro level.
I suspect that line in the sand is also a demarcation between younger and older shoppers, those most open to, and resistant to, change. Ooooh. There’s that word again. I use it a lot in every one of my classes. It’s a generational thing, digital natives versus the geezers who have spent their entire lives trying to keep up with all the changes around them.
It’s understandable, and to be honest, my students, you may very well just be geezers in training. I won’t be around, but please do a self-check—the personal reflection kind—when you hit 65. You may find yourself resisting technology that hasn’t even been invented yet.
Meanwhile, I have to make a Walmart run soon, probably later today. And you know where I will be when it’s time to wrap it up.

My Take-Away From the iPhone Event: This isn't a "Pro year"
A friend of mine had to buy a new iPhone a couple of months ago – and I liked his phrasing while asking me for advice: Is this a “Pro year”? Now, to some, the things you always get with a Pro phone are so important that every year is a Pro year. But I’m discussing how much you get for your money with the upgrade – because this will vary from year to year.
To be clear: I don't think most people should buy new phones more often than every 3-5 years. But as that interval will hit many people every year, it's still always valuable to analyse this year's phones. However, I'll be holding on to my precious 13 Mini for at least another year! 💪🏻
So, while we haven’t seen any reviews of this year’s models, to me, it seems like last year was a “Pro year”, while this year isn’t. Let’s find out why.
These are things that are the same – things you’d get for the upgrade last year, and still get this one:
Both from 15 to 15 Pro and from 16 to 16 Pro:
ProMotion display (high/variable refresh-rate)
Always-On display
Added Telephoto camera
Night mode portraits
Support for Apple ProRAW
Faster USB-C speeds
Aluminium → Titanium (With increase weight as well, though.)
LiDAR Scanner
Tumblr media
The iPhone 16 colours. One thing I don't touch on in this post is that the regular version gets all the fun colours!
Going from 16 to 16 Pro
In addition, the aforementioned stuff, this year you also get:
Increased screen size, from 6.1" to 6,3" / 6.7" to 6.9", and smaller bezel (A negative for me, but not for most, I assume!)
22 hours to 27 hours battery life (video playback), helped by the larger size
Substantial upgrade to the Ultra-Wide camera
Support for 4K video at 120 fps
Added four-mic array (and access to some finesse regarding this)
Tumblr media
The iPhone 16 Pro colours. Boring, but still pretty nice, IMO. I like that the black is pretty black, the natural titanium will probably patina pretty nicely, and that the Desert Titanium will look great with brown leather.
If someone asked me for advice, I’d simplify it down to this:
Screen size, and the associated effect on weight and battery life (Interesting that they now have options in 6.1", 6.3", 6.7" and 6.9".)
Screen tech (Always-On and ProMotion)
Better cameras
However, last year there was more:
Going from 15 to 15 Pro
In addition to the stuff mentioned up top, last year you also got:
Action button
A16 → A17 Pro chip (a more substantial bump)
6 GB → 8 GB RAM
Apple Intelligence (due to the last two items)
20 hours to 23 hours battery life (video playback)
Better Ultra-Wide camera (But not as large an improvement as this year.)
Support for Macro photography
Support for spatial video
Thread radio
Now, I don’t care much about Apple Intelligence or spatial video – but their inclusion makes the 15 Pro more future-proof. And the more substantial increase in performance and the extra button is something everyone can appreciate.
So, my temporary conclusion, also based on all the changes outlined in this blog post, is that going from the regular model to the Pro one is less worth it than it was last year – and that paying a bit more for an iPhone 16, compared to buying last year’s iPhone 15, is well worth it.
In general, this year’s iPhones aren’t that exciting – they’ve looked like this for a while now. But the design also very refined, and I really like that they’ve added two more buttons since the phone I currently have!

i’m sure this like Nothing to a lot of other professional mysterious illness havers but I had such a comically bad time getting blood drawn yesterday.
I got sent to a service I usually don’t use. they require appointments ahead of time. we arrive and I check in at the kiosk. the little stand for scanning ID and insurance cards has been ripped off the machine so I just kinda hold it up to the scanner and adjust until it finally accepts the scan. it keeps trying to log me out every 10 seconds and then helpfully tells me to ask a staff member if I need any help checking in. there is absolutely no sign of any other living person being in this office. it is a good while after my check-in time when someone finally comes out to get me. that’s fine. there’s literally no one else in the queue until a full hour after my check in time according to the queue on the tv screen but ok, i’m pretty sure it’s just this one woman running the show today so can’t be that annoyed by it.
the phlebotomist is clearly bored and miserable (and maskless) which is whatever, she’s the only person in that whole office so I cannot blame her for not being very enthused (and hardly any other medical pro I work with still wears masks for me these days). but the vibes are immediately rancid as I sit in the chair and wait for her to painstakingly charge and then return my credit card to me per each round of tests I was ordering one by one as separate transactions. My ID pops up on her screen every time she runs a transaction. The scan is very clearly too blurry to read. I watch her scroll through a list of questions she is supposed to ask me as she types “NOT PROVIDED” into every option. ok……….
I knew going in this was gonna be more tests than I usually do because it was all stuff my dysautonomia doc ordered to eliminate as many variables as possible but as she’s loading her little basket with vials I keep expecting her to finally stop but she keeps going. 5 vials. 10. 15. please say psyche
she leaves the room to go get more vials
so it’s time to suck me dry I fucking guess. I went in more hydrated than probably any of her other patients were that day, had eaten recently but not too recently, electrolyte balance impeccable. I am typically not a very hard draw anyway but I like to make their job easy. I offer my left arm first because that’s usually the good one, look away, and focus on my breathing as is my custom.
she palpates my inner elbow a bunch. way more than any other person has ever had to for me. she jabs me. it’s a sharper jab than the techs I usually work with but whatever right? I wait for like 3 minutes but I don’t hear her changing out the tubes.
she pulls the thang out and asks for my other arm. ok. unusual but whatever gets me out of that chair yeah? I must emphasize that this whole time the tech isn’t saying a single word more than she is contractually obligated. it’s dead silent. I scoot over and offer the other arm. I’m breathing through it like a champ.
she palpates my inner elbow again. and again. more. a good two minutes go by and she finally decides to do the jab. it’s the most painful I have ever had. she basically stabs me. I sit for at least 5 minutes of her just changing out all the tubes, it actively hurts the whole time. she finally finishes up and as she’s putting the labels on each tube, she finally looks at me and goes. Hey, you good?
i’m being SO normal. i’m dizzier than i’ve ever been after a draw. she gets me a bottle of water and a flaccid cold pack that just barely works and has me hold it up on the back of my neck. I have to pull down my mask to drink the water but she still doesn’t offer to put one on herself. I can’t hold up the cold pack and drink my water at the same time. I sit there for about a minute before she asks me to leave and I go even though I feel like absolute doo doo garbage. I have paid seven hundred and fifty american dollars for the privilege
