Scream 1996 trivia

• The scene where Billy Loomis throws the phone at Stu and Stu cries out was actually a mistake. Skeet's hands were so slippy from the fake blood, the phone slipped out of his hands and accidentally hit Matthew in the head. His now infamous line was actually improvised, not scripted. Wes decided not to cut that scene out and left it in the movie. The line is, “You hit me with the phone, DICK!”

• Stu, along with Billy, are mentioned in all six films.

• For the penetrating effect of knives, the production used collapsible blades to prevent injury.

• The only film in the franchise where both killers are previously suspected of being the killers.

• Billy quotes killer Norman Bates “We all go a little mad sometimes” and his motive avenging his mother, for abandoning him is similar to that of Jason Voorhees' first kill.

• Drew Barrymore shot all of her scenes in the first five days of production.

• Tatum Riley is the first character to refer to the killer as “Ghostface”.

• Stu is the Ghostface with the weakest motive so far, as he is the only Ghostface who has no motive. It also in its own way makes him one of the scariest killers in the franchise.

• Courteney Cox and David Arquette met and fell in love on the set of this movie. They eventually married but divorced in 2013.

• Stu and Billy are the only same gender Ghostface pairing in the series.

• Kevin Patrick Walls and Justin Whalin were final contenders for the role of Billy Loomis before it was won by Skeet Ulrich, with Walls being given the minor role of Steve Orth.

• During the scene where Sidney drops a TV on Stu's head, Neve Campell (Sidney) and Matthew Lillard (Stu) ad-libbed the lines, "I always had a thing for ya, Sid!" (Matthew) and "In your dreams" (Neve).

• The cheerleader in the washroom scene was played by Skeet Ulrich's girlfriend.

• When the killer smashes his head through a window and Casey hits him in the face with the phone, Wes Craven is actually wearing the costume and was really hit in the face.
